I think it's going to be great! It has the disadvantage of being a trailer (just look at the trailers for the first movies...they have this same vibe) but I'm cautiously optomistic about this movie...
That Hugh Fleming painting for the comic books that was shown a couple days ago...now THAT got me extremely excited about this film

Maybe I am a sucker for Indy, but I am super pumped for the movie! Nice to see the look and feel of the previous films is still intact, and once you see the trademark Indy silhouette well then I knew Spielberg will be the saving grace of the film. My only complaint would be the National Treasureish beginning of the trailer but I am sure that was a marketing move by Paramount because those stupid ass movies make so much money. But, I also remember being hooked into every Star Wars prequel trailer (I'm talking to you Phantom Menace). So here's hoping it's awesome but let the cynics take it away...

Just watched the teaser in HD....yee-haw!
This looks terrific...Harrison looks great, Blanchett looks like she'll be tearing the scenery apart with her teeth, Allen looks like she gets some action and...the kid's alright. I'm going to miss Denholm Elliot, but Winstone looks like he'll do good sidekick. It looks fun...
My favorite little moment: Another car chase next to a gloriously fake ravine! YES! That was one of my favorite pure-cheesy moments of the first film...when the Nazi jeep goes off the very obvious matte-painting cliff...it's really great to see they're not "slicking" this up too much and leaving some pure "movie" in it...
C'mon May!

Foreign markets are so hyper-sensitive to anything that can be viewed as American "jingoism" or patriotism, particularly when it comes to show of force. Hence, no U.S. flag and guns CG'ed out in the International trailer.
It's just marketing, though. People tend to forget that trailers are really just advertising at the end of the day, so they're trying to present the most innocuous piece of advertising to represent the film.

Interesting article from Hollywood Reporter on the upcoming 2nd KOTCS Trailer and the use of online widgets:
New 'Indiana Jones' trailer gets a widget
By Gail Schiller
NEW YORK -- When a second trailer for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" premieres online, it should spread as fast as the first thanks to a widget.
While Paramount plans to launch their first widget this week, the studio declined to state when the new "Indiana Jones" trailer will debut.
Paramount is counting on the small, portable applications that can be posted on blogs and social networks to maximize the exposure for its trailers. The first "Skull" trailer, released in March, has racked up millions of views.
Paramount turned to widget provider Clearspring for "Skull," which will include a contest with the release of the second trailer. The two fans who manage to distribute their "Skull" widgets most will win trips to the world premiere of the movie and the chance to be red-carpet correspondents in footage that will be streamed onto the "Skull" widgets following the premiere.
"I think the reason that studios are excited about widgets is that word-of-mouth and buzz is what Hollywood is after all the time," said Peggy Fry, senior vp sales and client services at Clearspring. "If you think about it, what a widget is, it's a digital version of word-of-mouth."
Clearspring also is creating widgets for Paramount's Mike Myers comedy "The Love Guru," which will include exclusive viral videos of Myers in character. The widgets, which launched Tuesday, will live on Myers' Guru Pitka MySpace page, where his character will blog about love advice, as well as on Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites.
Amy Powell, senior vp interactive marketing at Paramount, credited Clearspring with sophisticated backend technology that allows the studio to track its widgets wherever they lived so it wouldn't have to limit its promotions to a single platform such as MySpace or Facebook.
"We pushed Clearspring to create new technological advances for us to fit our long list of requests for our out-of-the-box thinking," Powell said.
Every week Paramount will add a new viral video to the widget, for a total of about eight to 10 videos. The widgets also will include other exclusive content including a "Love Guru" trailer, clips and behind-the-scenes footage.

Thanks for the link! Looks great. Good to see a little more story told for us laymen that aren't following this very closely.
But one thing I don't get is why these studios pull bootlegged trailers. Aren't trailers ment to advertise the movie? If people want to see them bad enough to watch a bootlegged copy, its that great for them?
The new Batman trailers have been the same way, except we have actually had to WORK of them.

They want all the traffic going to their website so they can tout that "x amount of people" viewed the trailer(like they did with the teaser).

Well, it's a little more simple than that. In order to protect its Intellectual Property the studios are basically forced to go after bootleggers, even on trailers. It sets a bad precedent for them to not be in complete control of their property and copyright.

oooooOoOoOOOOOOHHHH!!! SECOND TRAILER ZOMG!!!1!
Speaking as a stupid projectionist... the endcap scene was just added in the film this week. We had a "screening copy" of the film and a courier came to pick up the seventh and last reel of the film and gave us a replacement reel just yesterday. So, I believe the new scene is VERY new.
Also, the print DID come with a Dark Knight trailer... however we were told not to put it on. Unfortunately, our main office decides what trailer goes on what movie. It sad to actually HAVE the trailer in the booth but able to show it. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2
However, we did get the new posters for Batman... one has Batman in front of a burning building and the other has him riding his new bike do-hickie. I was able to BOTH display them. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

You have to know that Spielberg will not include any big stuff or lots of money shots in these trailers. He wants you to be wowed when seeing the movie for the first time, not a trailer.
That said, it's always good to have lower expectation when possible. I'm personally just hoping for at least LAST CRUSADE quality.

Saw the new trailer on Iron Man and loved it. Shia as "The Wild One" was kind of funny - I hope he can pull that off in the film. Cate looks gorgeously evil and Ford looks good. I'm looking forward to this film, although not as much as some other summer fare.
They also had the new Hulk and new Dark Knight - the trailers were great - I'm glad the feature loved up to them.

The us trailer has has had some censorship applied just like they did with the teaser.
Just watched the international trailer and it's the same as before....noticed at least 2 scenes where in the int trailer guns were pointing directly at Indy..In the us trailer they are pointing down at the floor.
Most noticable again in the scene when mac has his hands up!!

I saw the trailer with Ironman. I love all things Indy, but I didn't think the new trailer was as good as the first one. The first one really built up Indy as a legend by referencing the other movies. This new one just came off as another action movie. And I'm not one of these people that cry about actors who are too old to be in movies like this...but there is one shot where Indy and Marion are running away from danger and they're kind of...shuffling...like old people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making jokes or saying they're too old and are embarassing themselves. I just think they should have edited around it, to make them look faster. Maybe do a long shot with stunt doubles or something. They just looked kinda funny.

Yeah, it's pretty significant that they showed that brief shot of them flying over the Nazca Lines. It's basically Spielberg's way of saying, "Yep, we're covering alien/UFO lore".
Roswell reference? Check.
Area 51 reference? Check.
Alien-shaped Crystal Skull? Check.
The Nazca Lines? Check.
Again, it's all right out of CHARIOTS OF THE GODS and some of BEHOLD A PALE HORSE...
The only question now is: will there be a close encounter of the THIRD kind in the flick. :google
