Or so that is the rumor.
Bioware is confirmed to be working on Jade Empire II. While Obsidian is "supposed" to be working on KOTR3, they were the ones that made KOTOR2 because Bioware wanted to make another game. We'll see what happens.

The annoying thing is that the continued delays are not because they are wanting more time to finish the game, but because they decided to have a co-release on the Wii (originally they weren't... then LucasArts decided to cash in) so the whole shebang is being held up for that. :tap

This is the most anticipated game of '08 for me. It's like the Jedi Knight series but on roids. The graphics look incredible.
I also hope this game has a multiplayer feature. Can you imagine, and 8-12 players going at it with lightsabers and force powers.:drool
The only minors gripes I have is the character's underhanded light saber stance, and why do I always have to kill Stormies? They always get the short end side of the stick.:monkey2

This really does look awesome. I watched the other video about the characters on there too and that was pretty interesting. Solved my question of wondering how this effects continuity (I know its EU, but I usually count that in continuity as well) since there's this person with insane force powers. But now it makes more sense what's up with that.

It's being done by another company because it can't handle the new stuff like the PS3 and Xbox 360 can. It won't be having the lightsaber controls like we'd hope for. But it will have an exclusive fighting option where you can fight with various Star Wars characters (not just from the game). And from what I've heard it's got good graphics.
Which also means that the announcement of the Wii version didn't delay the release since they could easily release the Wii version after the others. I think they delayed becuse they actually needed the time. Which is good. I know some people are concerned that the focus on the new technology of the game may mean that the story will suck or the game will be too short. But they've been working on this since like 2005 so they've had plenty of time to make a good game that's of appropriate length and has a good story. Although I'm not too sure about multiplayer, the fact that they haven't gone into details about it makes me think it's not that great.

They were always looking for ways to get rid of each other. Because of Vader's injuries he wasn't as powerful as Sidious had wanted. Vader felt that he should be in control of the galaxy so they both had their own secret apprentices.

Part of the teachings of the Jedi and Sith is a mental block against other Force users, if Vader had something he didn't want Sidious to know then he could easily hide it.

The only thing I can think of is that Vader is secretly training his apprentice to overthrow the emperor. he would probably need help in doing that, seeing as though he was a cyborg and didn't have as much force power as he once did

Well, I don't really expect much innovation with the Wii controls. It's done by another company so it's not just a crappy version of the PS3/360 version. But hopefully it's not bad like the Wii/PS2/PC version of Pirates of the Caribbean was.

Well, it was originally like last christmas, now it's summer, but if they delay it until Christmas or next year it would make problems. They've already started to release merchandise for it so if they delay the game that'll cause issues with the companies making toys and whatever, so really they can't risk delaying it again.

Well, as a console game a cheat for dismemberment would have to be counted into the rating also, so that would be out of the question. With Jedi Academy (which was rated Teen also) the programing was there but you had to edit the game files to make it work.

Yes. Takes place closer to the time of the original films in San Francisco and elsewhere.
The INDY game will also utilize the new Euphoria bio-mechanical physics engine. In fact, LucasArts worked that into the INDY game before they enfused Force Unleashed with it. I remember the announcement trailer at E3 a couple of years back. They actually showed footage of the INDY game but all that was ready from Force Unleashed at that time was some design art.
The INDY game has been done for a while. They postponed release for over a year to coincide with the release of the movie. Bastards.

Great Jedi Purge
Shaak Ti during the Great Jedi Purge dueling the Secret Apprentice.Shaak Ti was selected to safeguard the Jedi Temple while Mace Windu took a group of Jedi Masters to arrest the Supreme Chancellor. Although she possessed considerable fighting prowess, Shaak Ti was chosen to stay at the Jedi Temple to organize the Jedi Temple's defenses. Moments before the Great Jedi Purge, Ti encountered Anakin Skywalker, whom she believed was on his way to the Chancellor's office to help Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, and Saesee Tiin in the arrest. She tried to stop him from leaving, but the young Knight was persistent, saying he was the Chosen One, and it was his duty to be present.
As the Jedi Temple's commander and defender[1], Shaak Ti was present during the fall of the Jedi Temple, during which Darth Vader himself set out to kill the Jedi Master. Shaak Ti as the Temple's finest swordsmaster was still no match for Anakin and the stormtroopers of the 501st legion [7]. She managed to avoid Vader and the 501st, and went into self-imposed exile on Felucia, where fellow Jedi Aayla Secura was shot down. Some time later she met Jedi Maris Brood, who was bent on revenge against Vader. Shaak Ti convinced her to go into hiding on the planet Felucia, where she was training the Force sensitive natives for an eventual conflict with Vader and his secret apprentice.
She, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda were the last 4 known surviving members of the Jedi Council.

Until all of the cheating. I began to suck, because with mods people would start to choke you and then run up to you and do a jump kick (part of the mod) and kill you really quickly. Although it was really fun to have the grapple system where you could swing around on the maps. I miss the moding days of those games. Which is why I wish Force Unleashed was coming to PC, we need a new Star Wars game to fool with. Maybe we'll get a good game from Bioware for PC.
Supposedly Lucasarts is working on an MMO to coincide with the release of the live action show next year, and then Bioware is working on a different project with Lucasarts which may or may not be Star Wars. I really want to see the Mass Effect engine running on a PC...
Yeah a customizable multiplayer jedi would be awesome.

I'm officially pissed at this game (or, the game developers anyway) now:
LucasArts is working on another Indiana Jones game, which has only just gone into production apparently (this one is not to be confused with LEGO Indiana Jones). A source at LucasArts unofficially revealed during the GDC that the game was in pre-production for roughly two years and eventually got sidetracked due to the development of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Similarly to Force Unleashed, this new Indiana Jones game relies on NaturalMotion's "euphoria" technology (you've seen how it works in recent trailers for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed).
No additional information has been given at this time. The game has a TBA release date.
:tap
Freakin' myopic LucasArts/Lucasfilm. :banghead The INDY game was actually announced and in production before Force Unleashed. This May will be THREE YEARS since the game was first announced! :google
Of course, the irony is that everything has been delayed (including "Force Unleased" itself) so that Force Unleashed can be this huge multi-license event for Lucasfilm but LucasArts has piddled around so long that the release of all the tie-ins is completely dicked up (the toys are actually hitting store shelves already). And now that the game is coming out this Summer (instead of last year when it was supposed to) it's now going to end up being completely overshadowed by the new "Clone Wars", which will have a theatrical release and tons more product tie-ins going for it.
At least Force Unleashed still promises to be a kick-ass game. If it's not, heads should roll. :emperor

I think they started both games around the same time, they were making up the concepts pretty soon after ROTS, it just seems that they delayed work on the Indy game so they could focus on Force Unleashed.

It is August, in a recent progress report from GDC 08 at IGN, they said "There's certainly still a lot of tuning to be done to smooth things out a bit more, but there's no doubt that Star Wars fanatics will have an entirely new immersive storyline to wrap themselves up in once August rolls around."
Which is good, gives me time to play Vegas, Condemned and GTA IV :D.

August 15th is also when the new "Clone Wars" animated film is released theatrically. Indeed, if it comes out in August the game won't have as much direct attention from SW fans, because they'll be mostly focused on "Clone Wars" and all its products.
And the Indy game was indeed started before. It was announced in 2005 and there was game footage at E3 2006 when Force Unleashed had only concept art ready to show. Problem is, that's probably the only part of the Indy game they ever actually worked on.

You can still have multiplayer and not have it be a FPS. Gears is third person and is crazy fun (most of the time).
I agree I don't want them to shoe-horn something in (just for the sake of it being there), but if they went into it from the start planning for MP, it could be amazing!

Again, at it's core jedi academy was built on the jedi oputcast engine, which was, yet again, a FPS at it's heart. And like i said, moving through a field as a cylinder, pointing lines at other cylinders( which, as far as the game engine is concerned, under all the prety graphics is what a FPS is . YAY Game design classes :D ) is better suited to multiplayer than adventure games :)

Not relly. An adventure game can be turned into a FPS online w/o a problem. You're controlling a character and running around maps just like in the game only you'rer going up against other people doing the same thing instead of bots. Third person view will work fine. I don't see how this game having online would be any sort of problem.
lerath666
02-29-2008, 06:04 PM
it all comes down to the complexity of the controll mechanic. FPS works for multiplayer as well as it does due to the simplicity of the interface. Considering how complecated the force powers look, i really just don't see it handling multiple people using those complex powers at the same time. that's alot of peocessing power.
Also, i would think that if the game had multiplayer, Lucasarts would be showcasing it by now.
darthviper107
02-29-2008, 07:39 PM
I still say that since we haven't heard or seen anything about how the multiplayer is that most likely it isn't that great since that would be a big selling point. But I really hope that the combat turns out well, with Euphoria it should have really good lightsaber fights.

It'll also be in time for the Clone Wars movie.
It's really sad though--GTAIV will be out before it as the first game with Euphoria and they licensed the tech after Lucasarts (Lucasarts doesn't own Euphoria, they helped the company NaturalMotion take their Endorphin program and make the technology work in a video game). They do own Digital Molecular Matter though, that was developed in conjunction with ILM.
I also heard that the President of Lucasarts who was recently fired was fired because he was delaying release so that it would be as good as it could be (apparently their game engine is terrible for development). So he left because of pressure to finish on time rather than have a quality game. Although that could mean that the Indy game won't be as good with new management who just want to get it out on time.

Apparently the game engine they are using is very difficult to work with and so he was delaying the game to try and get it to be good but they wanted the game released more on time which is why he left. Looks like each version will be unique, like the Wii version isn't the same as the PS2 version. The PS2 version has a specific physics system for itself and some kind of Jedi trials thing, the Wii has the motion controls plus the Duel feature. PSP gets the Historical Missions feature--where there's like 5 different parts you can play from the movies. <--good graphics too. DS gets the typical DS stuff, plus some Multiplayer features.

I think that's due to how popular mulitplayer has become. Most people play the story mode almost as a "secondary" to the game now. Many people are looking for good multiplayer first and a good story mode second.

I mean I still disagree with you. For example Mass Effect was just a story mode game, thats all it had. Yet I found Mass Effect to be much shorter and contain less side missions as Biowares previous games such as KOTOR and Jade Empire. I just think in general all games no matter what have drastically shortened the length of their story modes. Bioshock was only single player, yet that game was way way way to short even if trying to collect/complete the game, it was still short and had no reply value whatsoever. GoW was short, but luckily it had multiplayer, etc.......Is it that games are becoming very complicated to make and the process takes longer and thus it will take a long time to create a long game. And publishers cannot wait that long because they gotta make their money? I don't know but its disappointing.

I tried Mass Effect, but got bored silly 30 min into the game and traded it in so I really could not say if it was long or short, but I'll take you word for it. I felt like Bio Shock ( story only with no MP ) was fairly long.

I thought Bioshock was a nice length and fairly long. Not sure what else could've been added to pad the story out for another 5-10 hours and not made it get boring or drag? I just played through for the second time to get the second ending and to let Sander Cohen live. I prefer games like that with a good cinematic story that doesn't drag on and on. I love GTA but it's way too long. I'm not looking for a game that takes 60+ hours to beat.

The point is that they let you know what you have missed when playing through the game. You can play through a game in story mode and miss things, but if you unlock the achievements you know what you have done. You can also see the ones left to unlock so you know what you missed and can decide if you want to go back and try to do it.

Pricing will be less than normal.
Xbox 360/PS3 is $47.99
Wii is $38.99
PS2/PSP is $31.99
DS is $27.99
They are back at the old prices now... crap. I guess I didn't order in time for the discount.

They haven't talked about it yet. (at least for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version). Possibly they'll talk about it in the videos they're showing during the Star Wars showings on Spike, one of which is today.
As for price--I doubt stores care, it's just lower priced, probably doesn't make their profit that much lower.
Lucasarts not talking aboot Multi this late in the game still puts me in the camp that it's not going to have it
just MHO.
But i digress. give us story, give us awesome gameplay, and ATLEAST 15 hours of gameplay!

I'm not quite sure. They didn't really have much of a structure and really only talked about the story and then the Duel mode on the Wii version, along with the Darth Vader thing. Really I'd hoped that they would have talked about the multiplayer for PS3/360 but they didn't.

I thought I read something a while back that the multiplayer was Wii exclusive because its just an excuse to use the Wiimote as a lightsaber.
From what I've seen the multiplayer is just two characters swinging sabers at each other. No frills, just swinging.

I wouldn't say that's multiplayer. It's all on one machine so it's more like Versus mode.
I believe they said there's a multiplayer function on the PS3/360 version, but they just haven't gone into detail. Probably because it's still a good ways off from the release date and they haven't finished getting the game over to the PS3 version.

The Wii version does look pretty fun, but it doesn't have the Euphoria or DMM technologies. But luckily the game will be much cheaper than normal, (about $10 off normal prices for all versions) so it wouldn't be too unreasonable to want to buy both versions.

MP is easy. You're character list should be pretty much every Jeid/Sith to appear in a movie or the CW ( lots to choose from there ). Then have realistic saber/force power battles. No different than run and shoot, but with sabers in what would hopefully be a realistic manor.

More and more this game is looking like a missed opportunity in every way.
First, they hem, haw, diddle and daddle... decide halfway through production to make a different Wii version... and delay the game more than a year. This resulted in a huge loss of event status, as the game will now be completely overshadowed by THE CLONE WARS when it was supposed to be the STAR WARS release event of the year for the 30th Anniversary last year.
Now it's looking like the game itself will be lacking in certain areas that people were looking for it to shine (i.e., MP).
And because of dicking around with FORCE UNLEASHED without a solid plan in place, LucasArts now also has no game to ride on the coattails of the new INDY movie (the upcoming LEGO game, while awesome, doesn't count).
Someone should be fired over this whole thing. I'm serious.
The LucasArts folks could take some lessons from their Lucasfilm and Lucasfilm Animation brethren on how to actually be productive and set (and meet) a realistic ^^^^ing deadline.

Well, the Wii version is being done by a different company, so development of that isn't really causing problems for Lucasarts.
The main issue was that the engine they were using is really hard to work with (their problem) and they had to delay to try and get it to the good standards.
Maybe they should have handed off the Indy project to another company.

That's what I've been saying. A complete and utter lack of proper planning and project management.
I know that the Wii, PSP and other versions had 3rd Party developers but the truth is that all of that slowed down the project overall.
And to think that they actually started working on the next-gen INDY game a year before this one. I'm gonna make a prediction right now and say that game won't even happen.

Force Unleashed Demo for 360 and PS3!
VideoGamer.com conducted an interview with Cameron Suey, the producer for the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. What everyone (well, maybe not PC gamers) will be happy to hear is that there will be a playable demo. No specific release date was mentioned, other than Cameron stating "We definitely want to get it out there." Maybe that will help in deciding which version to go with if you have both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.
Comparisons between the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 releases are inevitable. Although Cameron stated getting the game's Havok, DMM and Euphoria engines working together was "a little easier with the PS3," things such as loading time will appear identical to players.

Right now I'm kind of pissed at Lucasarts, first with all these delays. Then a few days ago they made up a lame excuse for not making the game for PC by saying that people with cheap computers wouldn't have the same experience (this has been this way forever, nothing's changed). And then the other day they gave another lame excuse for there not being multiplayer in the Xbox 360 and PS3 version because they're having it in the Wii and PSP versions.
So really, they aren't making it for PC because they don't want to and they aren't making multiplayer because they don't want to do that either.

Sounds like the Wii version is getting bonus missions as well:
NZGamer: The Wii version is going to have a slightly different story isn’t it?
Dan: The great thing about working on the Wii version with Krome studios we were able to come up with some unique content - five different missions in three locations that you won’t find on the PS3 and 360. One of those missions is the Jedi Temple; it kind of weaves into the story. Darth Vader sends you to the Jedi Temple; it has been destroyed after the Clone Wars and you’re there investigating, you’re seeing what’s going on and you go into these Jedi Trials which teach you about yourself, makes you stronger and puts you against these enemies that you’ve never seen before, for example, the ghosts of long dead Sith opponents

it'll be neet to see how it all came together in the end. as i get closer and closer to graduating, and i get deeper and deeper into game design, i get more and more respect for what these people do.
A thought on multiplayer. we've seen how complex the physics engine is, as well as the force powers. imagine the processing power required to pit two Human controlled entities using said powers, against each other.
that's the reason i've said from the begenning that we would likely not see multiplayer on this title. it's not a FPS, and it's not Kotor. it's more akin to Legend of zelda or fable, and therefore not something where i would expect to see multiplayer, even before we take into account the game's mechanics.

Although Cameron stated getting the game's Havok, DMM and Euphoria engines working together was "a little easier with the PS3,"
Euphoria is what this game is all about and if it's easier on the PS3 they should be damn near identical.
Well, the PS3 was the reason why it was delayed for the second time, otherwise it would be releasing pretty soon.
it'll be neet to see how it all came together in the end. as i get closer and closer to graduating, and i get deeper and deeper into game design, i get more and more respect for what these people do.
Well, in the game it already has other Force powered characters like the main character, so it's not an issue of processing power (although it might be if multiplayer were split-screen) but originally they were going to add multiplayer and now it's just that they don't want to.
They've put so much time and money into it already that they probably don't want to spend even more time on multiplayer. I bet they're thinking that just the Star Wars name will be enough to have big sales---and the thing is, they're right.

Same with GTA, and the PS3 supposedly came out better with some reviewers. The time of bad ports is over i think. (except for company's that just throw out ^^^^ on a regular basis anyways)
I expect the game to be identical and a wash in terms of which one is better.

yes and no. coding an npc to be able to think and react to what you do is one thing, but we don't have REAL AI, all npc's in the game are all more or less if/then statemnts reacting to what you do. add the imput ontop of that system of a second human controller, well... trust me when i tell you it's more complicated than you think.
Can they do it? Sure it can be done, but we're talking like another Year, minimum of codeing and debugging.

Hey, Fisto, if you're like me you're now getting a kick out of this game's acronym:

And that's exactly what they bank on. There is nothing wrong with looking forward to it so I don't meant to put down what you say, but their attitude just blows IMO. They really do have a "take what you get and shut up" attitude.
I agree with you. It is a crappy attitude, and I don't blame people for not buying it because of it. I think sales will suffer for it. It just doesn't effect me enough to not buy it. I wouldn't have played the multiplayer much anyways.

That producer guy sure likes to talk about crates, though.

I hope they flesh out the apprentice's backstory to the point where he's an even more tragic hero than Anakin.

The last thing we need is something else to see and say "*sigh* I wish the prequels had been like that."

I'm starved for a good SW game (so the SP better be just that) So i'll be getting it for sure. While no MP is gay i'll live i guess. I sure hope they got something like masters of tera kasi online in the works though, Cause the SW fans need a good next-gen Online Lightsaber fighting game!

There's a rumor that at least the 360 version will get an update later on that will add multiplayer so there is still hope. Ridiculous that they wouldn't have it now though.

If that's true (and I tend to doubt it) I bet it's due to the backlash... which is well-deserved.

I don't mind about multiplayer...
I just want me some sweet sweet throwing-stormtroopers-through-glass action...
Also, BLACKHOLE STORMTROOPERS are apparently in the game...
Which is nice...
