Of all the SS PF's that I own, this is no doubt my favorite piece. It is made with different fabrics to answer your question.

This one should be in everyone's collection, can't wait for the Cinemaquette one to display next to it.

There isn't a whole lot of mixed media on this though but it is there...body netting, necklace rope and leather "skirt" the rest is polystone.

I think at this stage of the game, if one were to not own either piece, you gotta give the edge to the CM. Just saving a little extra and buying the CM seems like the most sensible thing. Why spend $1000+ on something that is not the best when for a little more you can own the ultimate version of the Predator? the Sideshow maquette is awesome but the execution of the CM is better IMO.

Price tags and scales/sizes aside.

^^ Exactly, easier to obtain and also looks alot better in my books, look at the Alien CM quite possibly one of the best Alien states ever created

Moot point honestly. I prefer to display my maquette with the mask, which the CM does not even offer. Don't get me wrong, the CM is absolutely gorgeous. I do actually dig the SSC pose a little more though.

True enough, but an insurance settlement still won't replace any of the rare collectibles you might lose... better than nothing to be sure, but some things would just be too damn hard to replace! :monkey2

Btw, in regard to the maquette vs CM issue... I'd take either one of 'em if I could afford it! If the CM goes for more than the maquette, then I'll just have to settle for admiring pics of it, at least until Hot Toys make a P1 figure. If I could afford the maquette, I'd want the exclusive. :monkey5

you are right, the cinemaquette predator is not made by Stan Winston studios. it's made by Steve Wang who designed the predator in the first place!!!!

i saw this thing in person at SDCC and was completely blown away. the thing is HUGE first off. much bigger than the sideshow version. although i'm slightly bothered that you cannot have him masked, he just looks so badass unmasked!

Fair enough. I do think that the thirst for the bio helm will be sedated with these new dioramas coming out. You get more bang for your buck on a higher scale with the crab face on a nice sculpt. The CM delivers that better than the Sideshow. Especially when you don't have the space for the 1:1 bust.

How much is a Sideshow Predator Maquette exclusive going for these days? I wonder how much is the real gap in prices when all is said and done.

There was one on the shelf in a retail shop I was checking out a couple of days ago... not sure if it's the exclusive or not, it was unmasked for display. At the current exchange rate it would be about $1200 US. If I could afford it, I'd just have to find a way to carry him home, and save a crapload not having to pay any shipping. I only wish I had that kind of money to spend, but I don't...not now, anyway. Major bummer. :monkey2

Think $1200 is too much to pay for the SSC maquette? It sold for about 1K new, right? That's not too much of a markup actually. Still a cuffload of $$$ anyway... :monkey4

Ive just been browing this thread and I am totally blown away by the Sideshow and CM pieces, both are simply stunning.

I was alrady aware of the CM but I had no idea sideshow had ever produced a Predator marquette. The interchangable heads is a great feature (this is limited to the exclusive edition right?) and this would probably sway my decision since I am a big fan of the bio-mask look. At what scale are these pices made, I assume the CM is larger.

Seeing these pics has only made me more eager for news of P1 figure by Hot Toys since its the only way I could possibly afford any form of a P1 predator.

Mudshark

I've lived without it this long. I'm actually enjoying the Hot Toys figures more than anything right now. They're much more within my collecting budget, too. If I started buying big ticket stuff like this then I'd have to miss out on the dios and props for sure. I still want to sell off some older stuff, but I think I'll just stick with what I've been collecting and use the proceeds for that.

The Sideshow maquette is 1/4 scale... freakin' huge! I saw one in person the other day and it's quite impressive. I'm not sure about the CM's scale, but it looks to be bigger, maybe 1/3 scale? Not sure about that. They're both gorgeous to look at, but I'm going to wait for a Hot Toys P1, too... which will hopefully be announced this Spring. Rumor has it that Dutch and possibly some of his squad will also be produced.

ULTRA OVERTIME !!!! HERE I COME !!!!!!!!!!!!
(superman soundtrack)

LOL

do it my friend!! do it!!

Im gonna get the CM pred when it comes out, I dont care how much it is - the damn thing is so AMAZINGLY IMPRESSIVE to see in person. You have no idea!!! I went to comic con last year for 4 of the 5 days and each day I was there I stopped by the Toynami booth at least 3 or 4 times a day to get a look at this thing.

It is simply incredible.......a sight to behold......it will be the ultimate predator statue.........the thing stands I would say at about 3 feet tall, pictures do not do this thing justice AT ALL, and that is an understatement.

but I still love my SSC pred maquette Exclusive :) :) :rotfl:D :D :rotfl :D

I'm already saving money for the CM Predator which I think, like Jamal, looks best.
The SSC Predator truly has an odd pose imo. I mean that's not how I imagine the Predator and especially P1. However the Cinemaquette just reminds me of the final fight sequence against Arnold just after he took his mask off, which is the greatest moment of all Predator films!:cool:

imo cm bersion looks better to me. the SS one seems a little out of proportion, its got massive hips and thighs.( is that how the costume was?)

after watching the movie for the 100000000000000000000000 time the color of sideshow is dead on.
cinemaquette looks nice and all but it looks faded off yellowish.

any how I will be getting both !!

They are both amazing statues of the predator.

I actually want the 1:1 scale predator that is at STAN WINSTON STUDIOS LOL.
Check this link and look for the pics of the display ROOM! Just amazing !

Supposedly the SS version is and I quote "Started with scanned data reduced in size from the 1:1 scale original on display at Stan Winston Studios". So I'd say the SS version is a pretty accurate likeness. They are both awesome pieces, but I like the alternate Biohelmeted head with the SS Exclusive.

I have the Sideshow exclusive, and would never part with it. Masked version is my preferred display mode.

The CM Predator looks a step up, which you would expect for an estimated double the SS original sale value ($1000 versus $2000).

Whether its twice as impressive is debatable.

I will certainly purchase the CM, but the fragile look of the piece worries me, with CM's track record for damaged items and poor customer service.

Having just bought the CM T-800, I'm stunned by the detail and CM's artistry.
Just praying they pack this thing faultlessly, as it should be almost indestructible at $2000 - $2500 cost.

Although the CM predator is undoubtedly a masterpiece there are some things to complain about.

1 The exaggerated fleshy mouth area, it is not like that in the film. The SC is more authentic in this respect.

2 The shape of the skull seems to be more in accord with predator2, the orginal predator had a skull that was somewhat more dome-like. You can really see the fault when you own (like i do) the much more accurate SC 1:1 predator bust.

3 It is to yellowish, the chest and stomach area of the original predator are much closer to ivory/broken white. Again, the SC is much more authentic in this respect. I have also seen blue eyes on the CM in some pictures????

4 They missed out again to create the perfect pose for the predator. We all know that the perfect pose would be the threatening battle roar just after he takes of his mask. Kevin Peter Hall borrowed this from the masai warriors, i think it was called a lion ritual or something.

conclusion: Although somewhat inferior in craft the SC still looks more authentic and i would prefer the SC.

Compare the promo shots, where both pieces are painted in full glory. I must say the SC version wins in these pics. Also compare the skull, the SC has the right shaped skull.

That's a very interesting analysis 8th wonder and I agree with every single point of it. However, there's still something I like more about the CM and I cannot say what. I guess it just looks more bad ass to me :D

Not to put down your observations 8th Wonder (most of them are very valid), but those are very minimal reasons for me to pass on the CM in favor of the SSC. The pose on the CM is better (not perfect but much better than the SSC) and you'll get a 1/3 head sculpt with mixed media for the dreads by Mr Wang. Great option for people that don't care to spend the $1000 on the 1:1.

They are not part of the sculpt. Like the 1:1 Bio helmet from HCG, they will be individually put in the sculpt which makes the piece a bit more "real". No idea what material they are using to make them (rubber, foam, etc).

The SS maquette dreads are separate pieces too though so I don't know how that make it an more "real" as you put it, unless it is a softer material than the SS dreads.

CM displayed next to my masked SC version, that will look quite something!!

Epic.

I saw the CM version at SDCC and it's awesome. If someone were to give me a choice of either one, I would take the CM over Sideshow. That being said, if I had to pay for it, I wouldn't pay extra for the CM version. I do own the Sideshow regular version and it is simply awesome. Maybe the best piece Sideshow has ever sold.

I will say that one of the first impressions I had of the CM version when I saw it in person was that the head looked abnormally large. Whether it is or isn't I don't know but that was one of my first thoughts.

When it comes to CM it always pays off to order direct. These things are just too expensive to have to deal with a dealer if something is wrong.

I don't expect the CM Predator to go on sale until 2009. They have yet to put up Indiana Jones for order since Jack Sparrow was just released. You have plenty of time to save.
