Use Technology to Get Ahead
The benefit of having a Grand Theft Auto in the present instead of the '80s and '90s – new technology. Niko can keep in touch with his comrades by using his cell phone. Tap into the Internet and police computers to locate and identify targets and use the car's GPS system to get where you're going faster. Bonus for jacking nicer rides: they come with voice-enabled GPS systems.

Harder Police Alert System
Escaping the police gets trickier this time around. Once five-oh is on your tail, the search radius in your HUD gets wider and you have to escape. Get spotted by a cop while still inside the radius, the search area re-centers on you and you have to escape again. The good news: big shootouts during missions don't necessarily alert the police to your presence.

No More Character Customization
Rockstar removes the character customization and light leveling up (by eating, working out) that was included in San Andreas and returns the focus to the main character and his climb up the criminal ladder in Liberty City.

Scale Tall Buildings
Since the game takes place in a big skyscraper-filled city, the action will go vertical this time around. Niko will embark on missions that involve riding to the top of a tall building to snipe at enemies below. He'll also be able to commandeer helicopters and land on top of buildings at times. Also, shooting enemies standing on tall buildings or platforms might, if you're lucky, send them into a spectacular dive onto the pavement below.

Control Your Aim
You can aim freely, lock on to targets and all weapons include a zoom function (certain guns will zoom more than others). The weapon selection has been paired down from the ridiculous -- e.g. no more flamethrower, chainsaw – to the more standard rocket launcher, sniper rifles and automatic weapons like an AK-47 and M4 assault rifle.

Hail a Cab
Instead of always jacking cars to get around, you can hail a cab and choose a destination by setting a waypoint on a map, or choosing from a list of predetermined locations. You can either sit and enjoy the scenery, or for an extra fee, press a button to skip the Sunday drive and arrive immediately.

Make Friends
Never underestimate the power of schmoozing, in real-life or in Grand Theft Auto IV. In-between missions, call up your cronies to hang out and build relationships that can lead to say... someone meeting you in an alley with a secret stash of guns. Or, meet your cousin at a bar and then try to drive him home safely after you're well beyond the legal limit (while the in-game camera sways wildly). Nothing builds the family bond like drunk driving.

Yes, There's Multiplayer
Grand Theft Auto IV will have multiplayer, which may include cooperative play in certain areas of the game. No other details have been revealed yet, other than it will involve more than "your standard deathmatch" shootfest.

Yeah, that would be cool. The maps are so big on GTA that you could roam around looking for other people to put a hit on instead of just the constant shooting most FPS games. You could roam around and interact with bots hopefully and then run into other online players as well and have gang wars....that would be pretty awesome.

When you think about it this COULD be an awesome online game. If they make it an interactive world instead of just FPS...then wow...Keep the Cops in it so that if you're having a gang war and the Cops roll up you have to get away or shoot it out with them too.

You could have store owners fight back if you try to rob them so you go in with a few of your boys and rough him up :lol

You could make it so you only start with a pistol online and have to steal money to buy better guns so you can fight other online players with a better weapon.

You COULD do a lot with it.

I love GTA so much i'm getting the special edition.

Now i have a PS3 and thats it.So i'm assuming it's going to run identical on both systems.(too much $$ to be lost to have one ****ty version and one decent)I don't care about DL content.PS3 is rumored to have it's own anyway.I'm talking about framerates etc.


Nevertheless this is going to be takin "open ended gameplay" and sight seeing exploration to a whole new level i think.:cool:

Cars no longer explode when flipped over.

Grenades can be thrown from cars.

You can push pedestrians out of the way using the B button on the Xbox 360 (presumably Circle on the PS3).

Police AI has been improved and they won't shoot unless you've committed a serious offence, running from them will cause them to open fire.

Different melee attacks can be preformed by holding down the right trigger and pressing Y, X or B.

The cover system is similar to that in Gears of War, you can also blind fire.

You'll notice characters breathing when it's cold.

Some of the gangs in Liberty City are the Mafia, Jamaicans, Triads and Irish.

Some in-game bridges have tolls.

Spinners (on wheels) have been implemented due to the community's requests.

Niko has an e-mail account and also uses RSS feeds. These can be accessed at any TW@ Internet café

Radio stations will often report on events you've caused (e.g. completing missions, killing mob bosses)

The faster you tap X, the faster Niko runs. He doesn't appear to get tired.

That's true! I remember when I started San Andreas for the first time I said to my girlfriend that they got a voice over actor who does a shameless Sam Jackson impression. That was among the most frustrating things of all in Vice City. I managed to save all kinds of vehicles by spreading them around in a handful of garages that proved to be relatively stable, and avoided "overstuffing" too many garages. That Cheetah in Liberty City was a real ball buster to capture and save, but I also managed it after uncountable attempts! I eventually got one, same as you, by pushing a burnt out husk into a garage, while keeping the sucker in-frame the whole time!!! :monkey4

SA had a ton of great all-proof cars and the all-proof PCJ-600! Nobody could catch CJ on a bike. I kept a couple of 'em in each city for run & gun fun! Btw, did you get the all-proof Maverick helo? I used a tow truck to drag one back to the big hangar at CJ's airstrip. :D

I never used codes or cheats either. I just relied on luck and tried different strategies till I found a way. I sure hope the new game has lots of similar surprises in store... and plenty of big garages to save them all in this time around. :monkey5

Getting the tank in III was fun as hell. I went to the top of the casino and blasted away then jumped down and stole it. I used it on the last mission and it made it pretty easy. I'm really looking forward to IV.

This game is going to be the ++++. I don't know about anyone else but I find the most fun in the game when I am just free roaming and messing around. I could really care less about the actual story, but the story is still fun!

In GTA IV there are strip joints and, more unexpectedly, comedy clubs, which have been incorporated in a manner that is "enough to make your head spin." Edge aren't allowed to say anything else about it at this time.
Jets and planes fly through the airport, and have visible pilots inside them. The tester drove alongside a jet, only to have a 4-star wanted level appear!
One encounter face-to-face with a cop got the response: "I'm a cop... and you're a ^^^^^^^^!"
On the subject of multiplayer... Houser wasn't able to go into much detail, but he did mention being able to get together online in the game with no other goal other than to use it as a meeting place: "I'll meet you in a car and we'll hang and just drive and listen to music, chilling in the car, with your 3D model sat next to me," he says.
The car paint jobs are noticable from newer cars being gleaming and spotless, to old cars being rusted and dull.
Bulletholes and dirt are permanent on cars.
Interior walls can be greatly damaged, "ripping chunks out of the plaster with gunfire."

"We sat down and it ended up like a whole radio show. This particular show, there's a little bit of a budget involved. It's not the normal licensed-out music. When you jump in the car, you're going to be able to hear a whole Green Lantern radio show filled with nothing but exclusive music I produced for the game."
Lantern also went on to mention collaborations that will appear in the game, namely Styles P (http://www.stylesp.net/) and Uncle Murda (http://www.myspace.com/unclemurder) (amongst other "surprises" that couldn't be revealed). * Team MAFIYA WORK is more competitive the Mafiya work but fundelmendaly the same thing

* Hangmans NOOSE is four players and consists of you having to protect Petrovic from the swat from the airport to a safe house
* Free Mode is like single player with mates . Go anywhere do anything
* On customisation the more you play the more you unlock so experienced players will have more items to choose from.
* Team Dethmatch is relentless, you cannot relax
* In HANGMANS NOOSE they tore down the runway in a baggage handler shooting at the SWAT- The writer said it was the funniest thing he has seen in a video game
* They saw an NPC tagging a shop wall and another ped taking photo's, peds now have a purpose
* they shot a rocket at the npc it destroyed the front of the shop leaving a hole in the wall and set the body flying through the area, eventually hitting the ground in a lifeless clump
* They played both versions Xbox and PS3 and said there's no difference (Kinda weird for Play magazine because they are usually really biased)
* Police have lines of sight so hding in alley ways and roofs is possible though you must still get out of the radius
* Rowing Boats are comfirmed as they used them to escape from the police after setting fire to hot dog stands biggrin.gif
* Rockstar hinted at the amusmant park having loads to do within it

What? The last GTA game I bought was 2. It was ok. I had fun, but I wasn't blown away by it. If the online play is just "run around and shoot" again I'll get bored with it. There are already 500 games like that.

Have you gone through this thread and read stuff? There are way way way more online multiplayer games than just "run and shoot". This looks to be one of the deepest multiplayer games to come out in a while.

Yeah, I play one of the GTAs on PSP and it was almost as good as the regular games. I think I might start playing San Andreas again to get back into the action of it all.

And I am really hating the guy with the map. That map usually comes packed with the game, right behind the instruction manual. That means that the guy more than likely already has the game.
