As consoles grow and we're already in the "Next-Gen" Generation (until the PS4, the X-Box 720 and whatevercrazynameNintendothinksup pop up) does anyone feel like I do that there are TOO MANY FPS games out there and the genre is getting to be less unique?

I mean it was unique in the beginning and games like GoldenEye and yes even Medal of Honor raised it up and then the original Call of Duty (Too many WWII shooters is another whOoOoOLe different story) took it another notch as did Halo. But now we have so many I think they're started to lose their flavor and are relying too much on things like Multiplayer and such.

While I won't disagree that games like Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, etc. are awesome, they still ultimately share the same stuff that every other FPS does. Which is why I think games like Gears of War really stood out...the game COULD'VE been a FPS...but the third person really brought it into another realm.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm still getting Resistance 2! :rotfl

NO!!!!!!!

You can never have too much of a good thing. I'd just can't wait to see some better FPS's on the Wii. Red Steel had a lot of promise but was a horrible game. They had the right idea, but it was poorly executed.

FPS's are the bread and butter of online gaming and I don't know anyone that doesn't love them.

I just really can't get into the FPS games....I prefer TPS, personally....for some reason I'm able to get into the game more that way. :huh

a good game is a good game so I don't care what type it is. i do prefer when the game gives the options of playing in FP or TP though.

Yes!!!!! There are way too many FPS games out there. I never liked them and too me they're pretty boring. I'd like more RTS, RPG and plat-former's released.

i recently started playing some new first person games. in my opinion, they're the best! I just beat half-life 2 part 2 and i started making some good ground on jericho designed by clive barker. awesome killing games against the demons of the world.

Yes there are to many. I play COD4 and own at it, but Socom for PS2 is much better online with 3rd person. I like both games alot but COD is easier, you really can't take over like in Socom. Then you got the vision problem bumping into wall and cars etc. with 1st person.

Can't wait for the new socom on PS3, I'll be playing COD4 until then. And SS has made a Socom figre.

Call of Duty 4 owns all FPS except Doom.

No, there aren't too many but the genre could use some innovation.

I was never a huge FPS fan. They are Ok, but give me a RPG, Puzzle, or Music game anyday....and oh yea...Madden.

Call of Duty 4 owns all FPS except Doom.

I was thinking the other day that they should do a new Doom game, Doom 3 was ok but it was really repetitive.

My FPS are PC exclusive. Here's my take on the best of the bunch (in no particular order):

-Doom 3 had great "atmosphere" but felt too enclosed after a while. Needed some wide open spaces.

-Crysis had amazing next-generation graphics and effects but was over too quickly. Other negatives were the hit points being horrible (you had to empty a magazine per enemy). Story was cheesey as well. But it has definitely raised the bar, in terms of graphics. Simply amazing.

-Half Life 2 still kicks ass, even after playing it several times. Just an all-around fantastic piece of work.

-Call of Duty 2 is still great as well. Wonderfully balanced multi-player. I still play this one online the most. Team Deathmatch is a blast.

-Counter Strike is good but I got tired of it rather quickly.

-Call of Duty 4: STILL haven't picked this one up, as I was waiting to finish Crysis first. I'll get it this week. Reviews have been positive so far.

That would be great. I would also love to see a new "Quake II" updated with today's technology. THAT game, in my opinion, still holds the spot of BEST multi-player FPS done. The maps were fantastic, and the gameplay was well balanced. I also loved the "grappling hook" mod that allowed one to get to different parts of the levels like a futuristic Spiderman. Brilliant mod.

We needs the BFG!!! Firing that baby was a giddy experience. Hearing it power up and then shoot out that green beam that split up several times and bee-lined towards the others, then dematerialize them, was always a sight to behold! :lol

I'll go with no.

I'd say the best in terms of realism and action is COD4. I happen to like playing Gears of War more though ( even though it's 3rd person it's close enough to group in ).

I hope beyond hope that Star Wars: Force Unleashed will have online play with a 3rd person view. Jedi and Sith fighting with sabbers and force powers could be the best online game ever if done right.
