Hopefully Namco can make a full star wars fighting game

dooku, obi-wan, vader, yoda, asajj, palpatine, loki etc

we wouldn't be surprised to learn that additional Star Wars characters are paid-for downloadable content. It's unlikely that the company would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters, so expect more announcements as we get closer to SCIV's release date.

Thinking of what they could do with a full Star Wars fighting game makes me all tingly inside. I will definitely be downloading any and all additional SCIV content, Star Wars related or otherwise.

edit: I guess Namco is holding a press event *right now* so news is coming in very quickly. Kinda lame, but I'll take it, I guess. Here's hoping we'll be able download some!

Oh man I LOVE Soul Calibur!!! It's my favorite of the "in-depth" fighting games (a la Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and DOA) and I love the characters especially some of the laddiiieesss...*achem* they're good fighters really!

I am super psyched for Soul Calibur IV and I can't wait...I've been a fan since Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast (missed out on Soul Edge though) and that was one of the most polished and beautiful looking games of its time.

For those that don't know, "special guest" characters is nothing new to Soul Calibur...they did this before with the multi-platform launch of Soul Calibur II...EVERY system got its own exclusive character:
PS2: Heihachi Mishima (Tekken)
X-Box: Spawn (Spawn comics)
Gamecube: Link (Legend of Zelda)

Looks like Namco is doing it again with SCIV and going BIG with the Star Wars characters. I certainly don't mind but I also know its a marketing tactic on their part to try and raise some sales and perhaps get some more people interested in the franchise.

Nevertheless...good stuff!!

BTW - whose everyone's favorite Soul Calibur characters? I typically play with SIEGFRIED as my top guy. I also like Nightmare, Mitsurighi, Raphael, Taki, Ivy, Sophitia and Killik.

vader excl to PS3 only would be BS!!!! i was worried they may do that since they did with characters in a previous version but at least those were characters from the console producers 1st party game so that made sense.

yeah thats pretty lame indeed. hopefully that wont be the case. i also liked that with the last game. since i had the xbox i was stuck with spawn, but my brother had a gamecube and i loved using link in it. i would love to see a more up to date star wars fighting game.... does anyone remember the stinkfest....star wars: masters of teras kasi???

it's the way marketing works, they'll have yoda on 360, and vader on PS3. namco/bandai is gambling on SW fans to buy both version. wii gets the lame rpg type sc game.

I generally don't like these anime over the top fighting games,(especially any games made by Namco :yuck) but being able to bring the pain as Vader, this is going to be a must buy.

As some have already mentioned, it's pretty lame that both PS3 and 360 have their respective exclusive characters. I prefer my games on 360, but will pick up the PS3 version only.

Hopefully this is a possible precursor to an all SW fighting game if SC does well.

hopefully i'll be able to get the MG 80GB PS3 when it comes out. i really want to play Drakes and......well Drakes and the Resistance game that came out at launch and watch Blu-ray movies of course. not a big MG fan but I'd pick that one up down the road.

Though Namco didn't say what it really was, they stated that the rumors are an extreme exaggeration. They did NOT comment upon the rumor that the 360 version REQUIRES a hard drive.

Yoda is a broken character, apparently:

The real issue at hand is that Darth Vader feels like the only balanced character out of the three. Although the Apprentice isn't radically overpowered, some of his moves feel a bit on the absurd side. Plus, he can levitate and shoot lighting. That's tough to deal with. Yoda, on the other hand, is broken. As I feared since the first moment he was announced, Yoda's height makes him an almost ridiculous addition to the ensemble and he's quite possibly the worst thing to happen to Soulcalibur IV. Don't misunderstand: he's fun enough to play as but he's powerful, agile and, because he's so small, a surprising number of attacks go clear over his head. Furthermore, he can't be grabbed. Ever. He's completely immune to it -- even Yoda can't grab Yoda. This is a clear indication that Yoda's just there for kicks and shouldn't be taken seriously as a competitive character. He simply doesn't mesh well with the rest of the cast.

Vader, however, works just fine. He has a few fancy moves here and there but matches with and against him still felt balanced. Even though Yoda is an "inferior" character, 360 owners shouldn't be discouraged. He's just one character out of a collection of more than 30 fighters, so the experience doesn't suffer because of him. If anything, you can just elect to ignore him on the character select screen.

Oh man, if The Apprentice is half as fun to play in Force Unleashed as he is in Soul Calibur IV, we are in for a treat.

I haven't played as any classic SC characters yet 'cause Vader and The Apprentice are so much fun. I think that makes me a bad SC fan :monkey2 Oh well, this game is all kinds of fun.

Anybody pull off a critical finish yet? My attempts have, so far, been unsuccessful.

I went into the test round with a character and kept hitting them until it went to flashing, but nothing happened when I pressed all the buttons, he just did the little concentration move(which I don't think does anything).

To do a critical finish you must first do a Soul Crush. Meaning your opponent will block, their meter goes from blue to green to red and then "breaks"...you have a split second or so to do the Critical Finish (all four buttons...or in the case of the PS3, L1...don't know what the X-Box is). I did one with Siegfried...it can be tough though considering a lot depends on your opponent.

Soul Calibur 4 is a beautiful game...and I was totally "wow'ed" by the graphics...both the cinematics and ESPECIALLY the in-game battles. I remember when Soul Calibur came out on the Dreamcast and I was amazed by the graphics then! SC2 and SC3 on the PS2, Gamecube, X-Box still had great graphics, but they had a more "anime" look to the characters faces and the graphics didn't blow me away.

As soon as I started playing, the graphics of SCIV instantly reminded me of that semi-realistic look that the Dreamcast had and I was excited to see everything move and act so fluidly...it is a beautiful game...graphically, design-wise, everything is gorgeous from the characters to the levels to the movement.

Though you can say that the Soul Calibur franchise has evolved little since its inception, it still continues to be one of the best with such a unique elaborate array of characters that only a few fighters can match (Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken to name a few).

I know thers a ton of characters in this game but I keep going back to Vader....he's a powerhouse.

Played it last night (on my 360) and was amazing. Simply one of the coolest and best looking fighting games that i've ever played. The customization of characters is awesome as well. Working on making a full suited samurai.

ok i bought it yesterday for PS 3 the game rocks!!! but please someone help me , i took Vader and i cannot win the apprentice!!! its the final leader and i only have managed in 1 hour to win him 2 times in separate match ups... (easy mode ) i cannot imagine the Hard!!!!

You needa abuse the suffer throw agianst him its very good move(huge damage and sets you up to use Vaders force lift moves)

I took the mega-cheap route: walk over to the edge (taking whatever damage he dishes you), wait for him to walk up to you, and toss him. Works every time.

good but when you play against the apprentice on hard he's ridiculously hard (hits you in the air then combo hit juggles you until about half health gone)

character making is cool

stuck on level 7 ascending the tower just now (which is the series of lizard guys)

levelled up to skill 6 with yoda & klik

completed story mode on normal & hard (yoda & apprentice) & arcade once with yoda

Those three lizard guys are a ^^^^^. I had to use a combo of Segfreid and Yoda to get past them. I'm stuck right now on level 21-23 on the tower.

yeah, you face 2 then 3 but it's the last round that's just one of them but he's got loads of armour on & once he downs you he spins into ya continuously when on the ground

nah, you get an achievement for playing all upper levels. 20 just unlocks ascending.

Well I'm not getting my hopes up for Vader to be released as DLC for the 360, it would be nice but I'm not expecting it. And as far as the Tower of Lost Souls, that mode can seriously bite me :lol. I just hate the fact that you have to go through each grouping of floors without your health recharging at least part way, expecially once the opponents start getting harder. And as far as descending 20 floors without a health bar recharge, screw that! You can purchase all the equipment anyway once you get a certain number of achievements, and I can't justify getting to the point of throwing my controller at my T.V. for the 2 achievements associated with clearing the various floors, I'm not that obsessed with my gamerscore :lol.

dude......I ain't complaining but Josh stuck with his customised character most of the night which had life bar +1/2 compared to my standard life bar & kept repeating this one move

I will host and no customises therefore we're all equal & dependant on skill

And of course I play online with my PS3 because it is free, easier, and the superior system. I'm glad we get Vader, PS3 owners getting the most balanced SW character is awesome, we get rewarded. I'll buy it in a couple of weeks...

So how many of you guys play on Xbox Live together as a group? I play online myself and was just curious. Oh and I have Soul Calibur IV as well.

Is this game worth it? I adored SC 1 and played through 2 and 3.

Yes, 100% worth it. This is a video game that you can get multiple play through use out of, will not become old quickly, and a graphically amazing one at that.

You will not regret it.
