SHRINK YOUR SIGS!!!

I seem to have to make this request every couple of months but now it's really getting out of hand with signature images.

Most people would rather not wait 3 or 4 hours for a thread to load because of signature images - thus they are limited to 150x500 pixels and less than 500KB in size. Many of you have images larger than this and some have animated sigs of over 4 MBs. So unless we can get this under control we're going to have to eliminate animated sig images.

I will be automatically deleting signature images that I find that do not adhere to the guidelines above.

Hopefully we can get this reigned in.... I know mine is right at the biggest size but thankfully under the KB limit. I just would hate to lose it, as it is a great way to showcase my art to the masses.

It's too bad the system doesn't have a way to keep some sort of control over it.

This is like the 3rd thread Dave has made about this, are people blind and dont see the thread or just plain stupid:confused:

If you start suspending accounts I bet people will start fixing their signatures.

I really wouldn't even bother posting about it anymore. If it were me, I would just purge all the offending sigs.

Dave, I've been very careful to monitor the size on GIF sigs I make for people and I make all the still ones to the 150 x 500 limit.

There are many offenders, right now I'm just going after the animateds that are huge. But I will be coming after the others as well.

There is a restriction that is set but it's not retroactively applicable.

So, I've noticed that almost no one has resized their sigs. So this weekend the purge commences.

If you don't know where your image(s)/animation is hosted you should probably save it as I will be just deleting the offenders from their member profiles.

Also if this inspires anyone to redesign their sigs - let's try to have at least some artistic sense to them. In other words, no multiple images of differing heights with added text at the end. Look at Frankenfan's banner up top - it's animated, and more than twice as large as your sig should be, yet it's only half the file size limit. Keep that in mind.

There are people here that will design sigs for you - seek them out if you need to.

My only question is whether or not the rule extension for the tiny "Bring back Buffy/Angel" banner still applies. Are we still allowed to tack that one on beneath our signature banners?

Something to note - if you have an image AND text in your sig, the image needs to be made smaller so the total real estate of the sig is 500x150 pixels or less. So if your image is the full 500x150 - no text. If the image is 500 x 125 - you can have one line of text (font 16 or smaller) underneath it. And so on...

I would try MaulFan. He seems to be the go-to guy for sigs. And they look great.

I've noticed the increase in members with big, ummm, sigs, ummm yeah sigs as well. Some forget any text underneath is included in the size, so the reg 500 X 150 picture with some sentence underneath, breaks the size limit. I would like to suggest an incentive for the mods to reprimand offenders by making transgressors wear the avatar of shame for a minimum one month period, even if they fix the issue. Yes, that's right trans gressors.

Think again King Dorkness! :D I have been PM'ing members to reduce sig sizes whenever I see them. If there are sigs still oversize, then I just haven't seen that sig yet, maybe just missed it.

But there has also been a special allowance for tiny second images, such as the one in my sig. I trust that is still OK.

Just to clarify - I said the BUFFY extra images created by FrankenFan were okay. Although Buffy at SSC is deader than dead, so that may be changing.

Also I'd clarify that 150x500 is NOT okay. Horizontal 500 px is okay, but 500 px vertical is more scrolling, which is what we're trying to avoid.

And I encourage anyone who notices a large sig to report it to a mod.

For those that do not know how to resize in general:

Just upload your sig file, type in 500 X 150 and it will resize it automatically. Then you will just need to save it and upload it again. Your sig will now meet the guidelines and you will not have an angry mod showing up at your door with a lead pipe. :peace

I've had sigs turned off there for about 2 years now.
