Wanted: Pictures of Helm's Deep & The Golden Hall

Just about to take 'the deep breath before the plunge', so to speak, by buying one or both environments...BUT...I need to see what your pieces are like, especially after all the adverse reports of paint quality issues surfaced a while back.

Thanks guys. :wave

Oh I'm gonna have fun with this....

edit- nevermind, I don't think it's very fun to post full-sized digital pictures... funny for about 30 seconds. Then it's not funny.

all these thumbnails are links!!

More pictures on my site... Just FYI. Also Gaz if you want to see TONS of each item, go to Cipher's site.

re

Nemo: Many thanks for those pics. I am fast looking upon HD as I do the Argonath bookeneds: bland but very detailed. I suspect I could easily live with the dull palette.

Tom: Nice shots, thanks!

Dimitri: Your site has been bookmarked and I will trawl through the fabulous array of images you have. I think it's a safe bet these will be purchased.

Re: Helms Deep

RickDTM, I think its fair to say, you can write 'Artist Proof' on that one.

re

Rick...those are stunning...thanks!:drool :thud

Just the kind of look I am after. :rock

Re: re

Gaz, glad I could help.

One thing I want to ask though- tell us when you make your decision about pulling the trigger on them! And, tell us what your decision is for, either both, one, or none! Please!
Thanks! <img border=0 src="https://home.earthlink.net/~dstephan/gifs/icon_gandalf.gif" />

I have put my name on the waitlist for both environments.

My decision to buy them? Hmm, many reasons I guess, but the principal ones have to be because a) I have grown to admire even more the work of Mary McLachlan, and b) I am relishing the prospect of bringing these pieces 'to life' when I arrange to have them professionally revamped in the New Year.

I have others on order...so by Christmas I will be well on the way to having a full set. Orthanc. regrettably, was sold a while back because that time warranted its sale: major things happening in my life that required a hefty financial input.

Having a retrospective outlook on my collecting behaviour is futile. What's done is done. :)

I have extras of each one to sell if you are interested...let me know!

these pieces suck...

don't waste your money...

trust me... they look SOooooooooooooooooooo much better in detailed pics than with the naked eye...

if you decide to get them, don't say i didn't warn you...

Rick's looks nice, but he put a lot of time into it...

Diesel is right about Helms Deep (haven't seen Golden Hall), Gaz. It looks horrible! All the details are 'hidden' for the plain eye through this greyish-greenish paint that covers the environment. No matter how much it is meant to be HD in the rain at night, the work the artist has invested into all the details deserve to be highlighted, IMHO. Modded this piece looks absolutely fantastic!
Good thing is, you can get it fairly cheap off Ebay.

There is also detailed instructions from RickDTM somewhere in this forum to help DIY if you have trouble finding an artist around where you live. ;)

I guess it's a case of each to their own ...I totally disagree that these suck.
I think the Golden hall, especially, is a great piece from the metallic-like sheen on the cliffs to the golden rooftop.
I think the starkness of the piece gives a good reminder of the surrounding environment.
HD very nice sculpt. Maybe it could have been improved with some touches of colour.
Still as is, it reminds me of 3mths of hard labour, the night, the rain and the aftermath.

Helms Deep really is the biggest disappointment in the line. Which is completely not the sculpters fault. As you can see from the repainted ones, this piece can kick Orthanc's @$$ with ease. But if you intend to buy it as it is, be prepared to have a grey/brown blob in your home. As much as the piece gives you a feel of the struggle of Helm's Deep, the paint is pulling it down like a mobster who sleeps with the fishes.

Biggest disapointment?
Only thing I have to say is that I love both of these pieces, neitherare bland or dull to me. Helms Deep has the feel of the movie, if that's dull then maybe that's what it should be.
And there really is nothing to complain about with the Golden Hall.....it's the hall, and it's golden! I truly cannot falter these enviros.

re

Diesel/ Goldberry: I appreciate your comments. I could not live with a bad paintjob, which is why I have asked Rick if he'd be willing to completely repaint that piece for me next year. If the quality of the paintjob on The Golden Hall is way below par...I will pay to have that one redone also.
