View Full Version : Official Hot Toys Video Game Masterpiece Series Thread

There are already quite a few threads dedicated to Hot Toys figures, and there is even one for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard) 1/6 scale figures, but I thought there ought to be one thread that would generally cover all figures released under the "Video Game Masterpiece Series" title, past, present and future.
As far as I know, the first video game character Hot Toys has produced is "Commander Specter", the Navy SEAL team leader from the popular "SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs" franchise. Being a devoted fan of the series, I was overjoyed when I heard that Hot Toys was going in this direction. Although Commander Specter was a special LE release, and there was no official mention of a dedicated "video game masterpiece series" at the time, I had the feeling that they were onto a very good thing. Lo and behold, they announced the Resident Evil 4 figures, under the new title, and a new line was born!
I have no idea what's on the drawing board, but I expect there will be plenty of extremely cool and iconic game characters announced in the months and years ahead. There have already been many discussions here and elsewhere about what characters people would like to them to make. I already have a list of most wanted characters, as I'm sure many other game Freaks who might be reading this do. Let this thread be a place where we can discuss those ideas, wants, suggestions, and anything else related to this new line of goodness from Hot Toys.
Let me kick things off with a partial list of characters I would personally like to see Hot Toys make...
Just for starters,
1. Figures from the earlier Resident Evil/Biohazard games:
Any of the S.T.A.R.S. team members from the first game, Claire and Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Ada Wong from the second game, and Jill and Carlos from the third game...and of course any of the multitude of possible T-virus mutations that populated each of those games.
2. Figures from the first Metal Gear Solid game, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater, and of course, the next installment in the series, MGS4. * There are too many to list them all here, but those of you who love this game too will know which characters I mean!
3. The rest of Commander Specter's SEAL team!
4. Dante from Devil May Cry!
5. Kratos from God of War!
6. CJ from GTA: San Andreas!
I'm crazy about video games and I could be here all night making this list, so I'll just leave it at that and let anyone who's interested post some of their own ideas. Have at it folks! :D

Great thread Mudshark! May Hot toys read it!
It'd take hours for me to list every video game character I'd like to be made by HT but here are the ones I'd like to see made the most.
-Resident Evil: Every S.T.A.R.S members, Ada, Hunk and El Gigante from RE4.
-Metal Gear Solid: Solid Snake, Fox Hound, Dead cell, Raiden, well... every one I guess
-I'd love to see Dante as well!
I don't have a lot of hope as far as the MGS figures are concerned since Medicom seems to have the licence but I'm pretty confident that we'll some other Resident Evil figures especially the S.T.A.R.S members since HT is specialized in military figures.

I think that video game figures haven't found their niche yet (excluding the japanese figures). Mostly, it's been movie characters. Besides the ones you guys already named, I would like to see:
Link and Gannondorf from Ocarina of Time (my favorite Zelda game and classic looking characters)
Some form of Mario and Bowser would be great.

Great choices from everybody so far! Many of those are definitely on my list too! Loved Onimusha and Splinter Cell. Onimusha has been done once before by Dragon, but that was several years ago. If Hot Toys got into doing Samurai figures it would be interesting to see if they could give DiD a run for their money. I'd love to see HT start a line of ancient warriors, and who knows, maybe they will if enough people ask for them. Onimusha figures would definitely rock!
Hot Toys could do a knockout version of Splinter Cell right now, though. That's right up their alley. I'm sure they could do the same with any Metal Gear characters. They made suits similar to Snake's sneaking suit on both their Batman and Appleseed figures, and the modern weapons and combat equipment would be easy as pie. It remains to be seen if they can work a license deal with Konami, but if they do there are gonna be an awful lot of excited gamers/figure collectors all over the planet!
There are still lots of other great characters we haven't mentioned yet that would make awesome 1/6 scale figures. Keep 'em coming everybody!

I wanna see Link, Zelda and Ganon; Mario and Princess Toadstool; Cloud, Tifa, Aeris and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII; Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII; Sora, Riku, Kairi and Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts 2; Samus from Metroid; Master Chief from Halo.....there is actually quite a few games that I could see being really heavy hitters in a Video Game Masterpiece series even really obscure games with unique designs if they are done well.....I wonder if MediCom seems to have a deal with Nintendo since they've done a couple of figures for them and if they would block anything....Not to mention Gentle Giant's license with Halo....will be interesting if the King of 1/6 really gets their hands on video game classic characters what they could do...

Well I own both the tiger stripes and zombie camo versions and let me tell you that those figures are simply perfect. They totally captured Big Boss' likeness imo.
Now I'd love to see what HT would do. I guess we should make a petition or something. It should be quite easy to gather a few thousands of votes and send it to Hot Toys :D

Medicom did do a superb job on the Snake figures. I wish he'd come with a few more weapons, and it would've been nice if the eye patch and bandana weren't part of the head sculpt, but they're still among my most favorite figures. Btw, I'm all for the petition idea. For all we know they're already on it, but it couldn't hurt to let 'em know there's a market already waiting!

If they ever do get a Metal Gear license, I also hope they start with Metal Gear Solid. I'd really like to have Grey Fox as the Cyber-Ninja in 1/6 scale. I'd also like to have that big dude with the mini-gun strapped to his back, Vulcan Raven. I've still got the McFarlane 7" versions of them that came out years ago and they're still two of my favorites! I wonder if Hot Toys is getting any of this???

I'd really like the MGS2 Solid Snake...that's the most definitive look of him to me. He had his mullet and the cool, grayish blue sneaking suit. It's also the one that he is depicted with in Super Smash Bros. BRAWL and World Dream Fighters Mix.

I loved the design of Rex and the confrontation at the games end is one of my favourites game moments ever. Its almost a shame he was 50 meters tall though, rendering a 1/6 replica totally implausable.
The MGS series has such a rich depth of interesting characters and the future-tech militaria art direction lends itself prefectly for a series of figures by Hot Toys.

Considering that Hot Toys is doing the RE4 figures they already have a shoe-in with Capcom and if those figures sell extremely well, then it'll be only natural that their business relationship will continue.
Capcom has Street Fighter IV coming out within a year, there's plenty of time to get those figures made in 1/6 scale!!! Especially my boy,Ken! :D

Rex was a monstrosity (a mechanical T-Rex) and would be, as you said, implausible in 1/6 scale. But I wonder if the USMC Ray version from Sons of Liberty might not be possible? It was a sleeker and more modular design that might be possible to replicate if it were done in sub-assemblies... arms, legs, body, and tail, which could be assembled as a kit. It would still be huge in 1/6 scale, but Hot Toys has already made two large 1/6 scale "kits" and pulled it off quite successfully. I don't know if they'd actually be able to sell enough of them to cover the costs of producing it, but can you imagine having a 1/6 Metal Gear Ray, in full USMC camouflage paint, on display in your study or living room? :google Yikes!
I don't know if Medicom actually has a "lock" on the licensing for Metal Gear with Konami or not, but I somehow doubt that Medicom will ever do any more Metal Gear figures than the two from the upcoming MGS4: Guns of the Patriots game. I've been collecting Medicom stuff for a long time now, and I've found that they tend to choose just one or two characters from any given movie or game license and leave it at that. Take the movie version of Wolverine for example. They did a few Marvel "comic" versions, but those aren't the sort of figures we're talking about. Hot Toys, on the other hand, has already made seven characters from Aliens, including the alien warrior, and the freakin' power loader!!! If anyone can make all those MGS figures for us, my money's on Hot Toys!
:rock :rock :rock
I'm guessing Konami is free to make a licensing deal with any company they choose, and if Hot Toys approached them with a plan to make their own 1/6 scale versions of MGS characters, I think they'd be all ears. And why not??? :D

I forgot to mention Silent Hill, good call on that one! The main characters were basically just fairly ordinary folks, but some of the creepy-ass creatures they battled would make very disturbingly nice 1/6 scale figures! As far as I know, nobody's ever made any of those before.
Regarding HT's R.E.4 figures coming out soon, I've only ordered the two Leons and SSC's Chainsaw Ganado exclusive. I wish they had made Ada too, but in a way I'm glad they didn't, 'cause that's another $130 I'd have to cough up. I do hope they make her someday, though. It's tough when they release so many figures all at the same time. Hopefully they'll pace their future releases so we won't be completely overwhelmed. :monkey4
There's one other Capcom title I forgot to mention, Dino Crisis. Kind of old, but the main characters were cool, especially Regina. They had some pretty nasty weapons, too. I wouldn't mind if Hot Toys made 'em, and maybe a 1/6 scale articulated Raptor figure for them to tangle with.

Don't know exactly when the new Resident Evil 4 figures are going to be released, but I hope we don't have to wait too much longer. I'm really looking forward to this new line taking off. If the RE4 figures do well then hopefully HT will announce some new licenses in the near future.

That would be great. This thread needs some pics of something pretty soon. The only Hot Toys VG character I have at the moment is Commander Specter, from SOCOM: Combined Assault, but I guess that would do just to start things off.
A few years back Konami released some 12" MGS figures through Yamato. Nowhere near the kind of kick-ass figures Hot Toys is turning out these days, but not too bad considering. I only have Meryl and Liquid Snake, but picked them up for next to nothing. If Hot Toys could get this license, they could do them so much better. Somehow, I doubt Medicom has any plans to revisit Metal Gear Solid or Sons of Liberty, so hopefully that leaves the door open for a company like Hot Toys to step in and fulfill the wishes of 1/6 scale collectors.

Here's a previously posted pic of Hot Toys' first (as far as I know) video game character. It wasn't an official "Video Game Masterpiece", but I guess it may have been what gave them the incentive to start the new line. This is one of my all time favorite, if somewhat flawed PS2 game series... SOCOM - US Navy SEALs. (The Predator is just in there for the hell of it, although a "SEALs vs Predator" game might be interesting...) When the next installment of SOCOM comes out, I hope Hot Toys makes some more of them.

I was seriously thinking about buying a Game Cube, only to play all the new Biohazard titles. I picked this up from a friend who owns a hobby shop in Japan a few years back. Tokyo Marui and Capcom were releasing model handguns based on the games every year for a while. I was such a pathetic Biohazard and R.E. freak that I just had to have 'em. I dug out a couple of other models I have the other day and took these pics, starting with the one used to annoy the Super Tyrant before the big showdown... the good ol' Umbrella Security Service 10" Desert Eagle .50AE.
Wooden display case.

Next up, Jill Valentine's S.T.A.R.S. custom Beretta M92F "Samurai Edge" from "Biohazard 3: Last Escape" (aka Resident Evil 3: Nemesis) '99-2000 LE.

Then there's the Chris Redfield model from the same game title (2000 LE).

And last but not least, the 2001 LE 5th Anniversary Barry Burton model...

There was an Albert Wesker model that was released along with this one, but I don't have it. I may try to track one down someday. :D

Actually Tokyo Marui never produced Wesker's samurai edge, even though there's a pic of it in the Burton's manual.

Now that you mention it I think I do recall hearing that before somewhere. That's probably why my friend didn't save one for me. Yeah, there's a picture of it here in the manual... too bad they never made it! I wonder what happened. :monkey2
I think they made a nickel plated Colt Python like the magnum from the first game, the year after the Barry Burton model, but I'm not sure about the dates. I'd have to dig through some old Hobby Japan magazines to find it again.

The magnum used by Billy Cohen, the one you referred to, was made by Tanaka, not TM ;)
It was a great gun, but extremely powerful!

That's cool! I basically stopped collecting Biohazard stuff around the time Capcom went over to Nintendo. My recollections aren't quite as sharp as they were several years ago when I was still collecting it. :monkey1
Just curious, but where are you getting your info from? You seem to have a lot of knowledge about this stuff! Do you have any of these pieces yourself? :D

I've been into airsoft for a few years now, that's why, and as you may have noticed I'm a Biohazard freak as well. I do own some of these pieces. I'll post pics of 'em soon ;)

Well that explains it! Are you also in Japan by any chance? You're the first person I've met with both interests in common. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your pics! :D
On the subject, the Feb. issue of ARMS Magazine had a special article on the 10 year history of Tokyo Marui, Capcom and Biohazard. You probably already know that there's a new nickel plated "Leon Custom" Desert Eagle 10" out this month. It comes with a display case and everything. It isn't cheap, at least over here, but I'm thinking about snagging one before they sell out. Here are a couple of links if you or anyone else are interested.

Here's another item for the diehard Biohazard fan, Leon's R.P.D. uniform!

Glad to know we share airsoft as a common interest!:chew
No I live in France man, but I so wish I lived in Japan. You're lucky to be there! If I were in Tokyo, the first thing I'd do would be to go to that Phantom web shop!! I have to go there someday.
Yeah I know about that new desert eagle. Looks extremely cool but I'm only interested in the guns that were used in the games.

You must have some very good connections in France! I've never heard of these pistols being offered outside of Japan before. I live near Osaka actually, but Phantom has an outlet there. In the past I've found some pretty cool S.T.A.R.S. and Umbrella collectibles there from time to time.
I'm wondering if the Desert Eagle might be featured in Biohazard 5. It may just be an anniversary offering, but it's possible Capcom could have plans we don't know about yet. If Leon's going to be in it again, then it wouldn't surprise me at all. :D
