There is sure to be a glut of product coming out not only from the new film, but from the old one. We need an Indiana Jones section here.

What for? So you can say how much everything sucks? :D
You might actually be right for once, an Indy section would be cool.

I agree we need an Indy only section.

Not if Sideshow and the other companies made some good stuff.

Its really odd having you not be so negative all of the sudden...
Anyway, I'd agree this would be a good idea. There seems to be a lot of stuff coming, from mass market to high-end... so its own section would be a good idea.

Yup. There needs to be an Indy Section. This is a no-brainer. :lecture

And should there also be a Pirates of the Caribbean section?
Even though it's not Sideshow I've always wanted to have a dedicated Harry Potter section too.

While we're at it, can we get a Video Game Section too? :monkey3 :D

if we're all asking for new sections here, then how about a james bond section?

Pirates seems to be cooling down right now... I could be wrong. Besides the HT figures not a lot else is really discussed. And sadly, Bond is pretty much dead :monkey2
Whereas Indy is about to explode.

If I might be so bold, Perhas instead of making an indy Section, We could change the starwars section to a Lucasfilm Liscening section? The Indy Stuff has been discussed in there before already.
As For Pirates, while there is a lot of stuff out there, I think Glacticboy is right, and that it's starting to cool down.

Not a bad idea, but do you want the SW section to influence Indy fans :monkey3

I agree. We could use the following dedicated sections:
Indiana Jones
Harry Potter
Pirates of The Caribbean
Video Games (especially since high-end collectibles companies are now making stuff from HALO, Resident Evil, etc)

Yeah, its time to spread things out a bit more.

Dedicated forums for Indy and Harry Potter are a no-brainer. But I don't think Pirates have the staying power to warrant their own section.
And after all this time we still don't have a DC forum.

You're probably right about that. But we do need a "Video Games" section, since many very active members here are gamers and there are a lot of new gaming collectibles on the horizon (Halo, WoW, RE, etc)

Oh, I agree. I'm not a gamer myself, but there is a lot of discussion going on here about video games. No reason not to have its own section.
And DC. :D

It's funny, I've been thinking about having a Video Game section lately too. When I saw the request for an Indy section, I came in here thinking I might start a thread about just that, but Ill beat me too it here. I think one look at the Other Discussion forum shows it would be well used. Maybe we should start a seperate thread and leave this one to Indy...
Oh, and an Indy and HP section would be great too! :D

One thing I like about the format now is that most members check out at least 2 or more forums. If you get too specialized then certain people won't visit certain areas and you might lose the feeling of a close-knit community that I feel we have right now.
I'm also wary of losing the character of the board by branching out into areas that aren't Sideshow related, such as DC and HP. But I'm certainly open to hearing more discussions about it.
edit: Holy hannah! I just noticed this - was a worthwhile thread actually started by Collector Freak? What's next? Cats and dogs living together?
i want a Kurgan members only sektion :cuss

Actually I've noticed quite a few nice and productive quotes form him this past little while. Maybe it's just my usual desire to think the best of everybody, but maybe he's not as bad as we all think sometimes. :o

I think this will always be thought of as a Sideshow forum first. No one is going to come here mistaking it for a video game, HP or DC forum.
As the forum grows, I think it helps to find certain threads if they're easily classified. Right now the "Other Discussion" section is huge. Sometimes it takes awhile to find something there.
Darklord Dave
12-21-2007, 08:44 PM
Okay, that raises another question and an idea.
"Other" is getting large and a lot of that is video game.
Video Games as a section does make sense since we have Sideshow justification with WoW and the Street Fighter stuff. That's actually an easy decision - time for a poll!

I understand the HP, POTC, etc not getting theirs since they aren't items SS is making themselves. Indy though will be and IMO SHOULD have its own section. I mean if Horror can have its own then Indy should.
Darklord Dave
12-22-2007, 09:38 PM
Well "Horror" covers tons and tons of movies and collectibles. Even Whedonville has an extensive SSC line and many other products from other companies. For Indy I count 3 products from GG and probably 3-6 from SSC eventually. I'm not sure that warrants it's own section. Incorporating it into SW for a Lucasfilm section seems like an idea. Although the typical Indy collector doesn't seem to be that cynical and I'd hate to see them get corrupted.
The Josh
12-22-2007, 09:57 PM
The SS items though will cover all the Indy movies, GG items are starting to come, and Hasbro will have stuff 2. Overtime it will be worth it. Plus it will allow for more of a breakdown as items come out instead of flooding the general section. Indy is as popular overall and will be for sure once the products start rolling. Give us an Indy section please Dave. :D
IrishJedi
12-23-2007, 06:13 AM
Agreed. INDY has been overshadowed by Star Wars for the past decade or so, but that franchise is right up there.
In fact, some of us are so burned out on SW that INDY might now be at #1A, especially with the new film on the horizon.
This license will be successful and last a while, I'm quite sure of that.
The Josh
12-23-2007, 08:57 AM
I'm with ya there. Indy will be fine and honestly it would allow me to venture into SW only to just have good convos instead of what happens most of the time in the SW section.

Just to add to what others are saying: There's also going to be product from four films, not just 1. This is the first time Indiana Jones is being sold out (for better or for worse) to tons of companies and I think they will take advantage in a big way.
galactiboy
12-26-2007, 10:19 AM
Yep, Hasbro is on board with their figures (for better or worse) and I'm sure some more will be moving into the fray as we get closer to the launch date.

Heck, Disney parks have been selling tons of exclusive INDY merchandise for years now, including a recently-released 7" figure made by Gentle Giant, of all people.
I'm with the consensus. It's time for an INDIANA JONES section here.

As it turns out Gentle Giant will be producing more than just busts and statues. The new issues of PREVIEWS came out today and it shows cool stuff like desk ornaments: The Grail as a paperclip holder, a mini Ark as a business card holder, the Fertility Idol as a pen holder, and more. :rock

To tell you the truth, I sometimes get very frustrated finding threads in "Other" and "General Collectibles". Because of so many members, many of the topics I'm interested in gets pushed back so fast and buried into page 2 because of all the new topics posted. I can't imagine I'm the only one who feels this way. And I don't think splitting up some of the topics that have larger interest will hurt the unity of this board. After all, the Sandbox is still there to engender bonding on eclectic topics? And I don't think there are too many members who limit themselves to interests in only 1-2 topics anyway. My votes (for whatever worth they may be):
Indy section - Yes
HP section (even though SS isn't involved with liscense...yet) - Yes (2 more films coming out plus probable 7-film set. And it's not wholly improbable that SS might get a piece of that pie during the next 2-4 years?)
POTC section - even though I loves me nearly everything POTC, unless they come up with a 4th movie (which I shudder to think about), this franchise has quieted down and doesn't warrant a separate section.
Gamers section - Yes
