HT Predator 2 BATTLE DAMAGED!

I bet a lots of people wish the instructions were better, might actually save some of the breakage and other grief people have had putting them together. The standard instruction sheets are rudimentary at best , in fact they're really not all that much help except in a general way. The box photos are a better guide. Good thing we have forums with threads like this, so we can exchange ideas, suggestions and tips on putting these suckers together if we get stuck!

Well then, it sounds to me like you're glad you finally got one! They can be tricky to assemble, as you've already discovered, but if you take your time and remain patient, the payoff is well worth the effort. :rock:rock:rock

Btw, did you use the hair dryer when putting him together? Heating up the chest armor can make it a lot easier getting it fitted around his torso, and if you open the clasp in the front, it's somewhat easier to get the back closed. I usually close the back first and the front last. Then I hit the whole thing all around with the hair dryer to get a nice snug, uniform fit around the torso. When it all cools down again, it's much less likely to pop open while you're posing him.

Totally worth the wait and money, I love it and when I get his right wrist guard on I'll love him even more haha.

I didn't use a hair dryer. I think I lucked out. I soaked the shin guards in hot water for a little to soften them and the neck whole on the head to get it onto the peg, other than that all of the armor on his chest and hips went on fine as was. I did unclasp all the armor and worked on getting the back clips then the front clasp. I find the larger back clip to be the looser of the 2, which is funny because you'd think it was the stronger given it's size.

Nope, didn't have to, found a much easier solution. I followed the instructions and built the body before putting on the net, and as I was doing the knees it struck me, just pull the leg out, put the knee pad over the thigh stump, slip the calve into the net and lock it back into the leg and walla, no hastle at all.

Thanks, it really is an awesome sculpt and while I love the custom paint jobs I've seen, I think the factory paint is still pretty solid, much better than I anticipated it would be from HT's images and some of the in hand shots. Even the body proportions seem much less skewed out of what they should be in hand. I'm going to do more shots tonight once I get the blades onto his arm. I'm blown away at the functionality of the spear, that's some nice craftsmanship, and the detail and quality of the Alien skull is definitely above and beyond for an accessory.

Not at all, but if it works for you, I'd rather wait til my new shots come tonight, I don't know if you caught, I left the bladed gauntlet at my office so I didn't quite do the quality of shots I will with the completed figure tonight.

Even though the battle damaged mask was sort of the reason I paid a bit extra to get the figure from Sideshow, I decided that I'm never going to actually use it in preference to the regular mask, so I sold it on ebay. For $55. :google That was actually my BIN price and it sold within the first 12 hours or so to someone in Japan. I don't understand why anyone would pay that much, but I'm not complaining, since it nicely offsets the price of the figure.

It's a cool exclusive, but with the Preds I just care about them including items from the film, so I just got the regulard BD so someone that wanted the damaged mask could get it. I'm so glad it came with the bio mask, it's definitely an important part for a Predator.

Mine came yesterday. Haven't had time to put him together but took 5 minutes to look over the parts last night. Damn, his head is heavier than most of the full 12" figures I own LOL. I own Rocky, Rambo 1, Rambo 3, Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Endoskeleton, Hicks, Ripley, and Apollo Creed from Hot Toys. And, I can honestly say, Predator 2 is only the 2nd figure that I didn't get that buyers remorse feeling of, "Damn, I paid XX dollars for this?" Don't get me wrong, all the figures are great, but it still hurts spending 100 to 130 on them. 90 for Hicks felt right back in the day. And, with the huge Alien skull and accessories, he feels worth 130 dollars.

Thanks dude, I don't know about everyone else, but I'm sure greatful you're as bold with figures as you are, your ALIENS warrior shot helped me to get better pics knowing what the figure was safely capable of, and now with the Predator I'll be able to explore some more things. I love that the hip is done to allow it to bend back. The armor eventually stops it, but I was happy with how it looked in the roar pose like the P1 did just before fighting Dutch, that's like an iconic image for me, I think of P1 Predator I picture him throwing his arms out in a "bring it" pose with that great roar echoing in the jungle night. Can't wait til HT unveils a P1.

One question though: do the wrist blades retract all the way back? I havent seen any pics that show the blades all the way back in. Having said that in MF's pics it seems the blades can extend out way past the hand... is this a custom job or is it part of the regular features?

The wrist blades don't retract all the way into the forearm armour. They do extend though, as you said, out past the hand. It's the same with all the Predators that have the blades. I still prefer the P2 Elder. You may not. They are both great figures. The P2 Elder doesn't have the blades. The P2 Elder has a duller paint application, whereas the Warrior is glossier and looks more plastic and less natural in comparison.

No they can't competely retract, but they do come out quite a way when fully extended.

Hmmm, I'm a bit dissapointed that the blades dont retract into the armour housing... wasnt that the case in movies? I'm sure the wrist blades were concealed completely in both P1 and P2? Not the end of the world tho. Are the blades easily removable? i.e could i just remove the blades giving the impression they are fully retracted and then put them back whenever i like?

Sorry for all the nit-picky questions... i'm very particular about certain aspects of the things i buy!

I'm not certain, but I belieive in P1 and P2, the blades were always out a bit and they extended for combat. The figure's blades curve significantly, a little too much, but even correct to the curve in the film, the curve would prevent them from going back into the straight opening of the wrist gauntlet.

Thanks Ed. I don't really have a standard light setup persay. I always shoot stuff in the same room, so over time I've come to understand how my flash will work within the area. I have a shoe-mount flash for my camera that has a 2 foot cord to attach it to the camera as well, so I just aim the flash where I think the bounced light will fall on the figure(s) best from. I often take 2-3, sometimes as many as 5, shots from one angle until the lighting falls the way I wanted it to because each subject is different so until you've see how that lighting falls on the subject, you just don't know for certain you'll get the desired result. The black background I use for these is just my computer monitor turned off.

No worries if you want to remove the blades and still have the option of using them anytime. The cover pops off relatively easily and then they just lift out. You can stick the cover back on (it has pegs at both ends that fit into holes on the gauntlet) and secure it from inside with fabric tac or double sided tape. Mine's currently held in place with a little ball of clay at each end.

May others forgive the reposted pics, but having the blades out of the way looks better in some cases than having them sticking out all the time, easier for certain poses, too. :D

Indeed. Having this one, I know the first release would have been less satisfying once the BD got announced, for me, but thankfully, I've got THE P2 Predator figure and it's a very satisfying purchase, the look with the roaring mandibles, the helmet, the gear, I love everything about it. This ought to be the last P2 though, so if you're thinking of getting it, do it, don't hesitate. I got lucky that my hesitance with the first release resulted in getting the better figure, but you can't always be so lucky.

Im in the UK and I have one on pre-order from Forbidden Planet... they say they will get em in 30th March... i can wait till then.

I watched Predator 1 last night and yeah it looks like the wrist blades do jutt out a little at all times... I forgot how long they extend too! When the Pred is about to go and get Arnie, you the know the "camaaan kill me I'm here!" bit, he pops his blades and they're nearly twice as long. Needless to say, I'm hoping (like many others here) that HT do the P1 Pred but I'm looking forward to getting my P2 and that should keep me going for a while.

Also: is there a trick to keeping his battle shattered helmet on his head other than balancing it there like a stack of books on a would-be beauty queen's head?

Because of the costs, I might just have to dump the Predalien anyways. But between the two, this one is still very much like the first one and it would be nice to get something different. I think Predalien might be around longer because of it's price so it wouldn't be a bad idea to skip him in favor of a BD Pred 2.

I've actually used some slightly tacky hot glue drops pulled from mailings to secure the helmets on some of the old AVP Preds, it might work here too. But there's also a product called Glue Dots that you can buy from arts and craft stores online that many here use to secure the helmets.

aah finally... i thought i was the only person with problems with a p2s dreads. mine fall out as well. and most of the dreads look like they could easily drop if tugged a little..:monkey4. i spent carefully superglued them bact in to their sockets. just hope the glue doesnt have any effect on the rubber

Well, given the setup I went with on the lightning shot, the background building is way out of forground to capture the flash like the film, but I may try a highlight on the building he's on.

As for the fading parts in the meat plant image, I looked at a still I took and it seemed like the parts they faded out, maybe because the technology worked best that way, were all the highlights while the shadows remained.

Sorry to keep harping on about it... but back to the retracted wrist blade issue. I was watching P2 the other night and the scene where the pred takes on the jamiacan gang in the columbian drug lords appartment... he takes down the last jamaican bad guy with his wrist blades... he pops them just before he moves in (filmed quite rapidly and stylistically) and they are poking out ever so slightly. Tried to chuck the dvd into my computer to get screen grabs but the damn thing kept crashing.

Its been so long since i last watched P2, i forgot how many Preds turn up at the end and all the varying designs you can see. I swear i saw a celtic pred mask in there some where! Got my BD P2 yesterday but got stung by customs EUR 28.00 ($40). First time ever, i was like WTF?!!

Personally I'm not that happy about the fig's articulation - the arms cant be raised very hight cos the body armour gets in the way and they're SO stiff to move!!! I hate that we only get one left hand too and it cant even hold anything.

The prices in that place swing ridiculously, I've seen 'NEW' HT stuff going for £200, but I've got some amazing bargains there as well. SST POTA figs for £9.99 and I got the old Medicom, Cro Magnon, Bape, Che Guevara/Ape for £30, they told me it was priced up wrong and should have been £230, but they let me have it.

Update on the Sideshow exclusive helmet: I've found there's a way to snap it in place so it doesn't fall off. I'm guessing there's ridges inside that correspond to the head ridges.

P2 BD has everything plus more then the regular version. But he does have a bit of blood on him, so it's up to you whether or not you can live with the Pred blood.
IMO, get BD Predator 2, he's the better value. (I want one myself right now :monkey2)

The Battle Damage is better in every single way esp. in the mandibles that allow for the open face look. That expressed, I really don't like the blood on the armor. So it's a trade off... but I'd say it's heavily in the BD favor.

I didn't like the idea of the blood at first but when I saw good pics like FACEBOOK's I thought it looked quite cool and added character to the fig. When my Pred arrived I wasnt bothered by the blood at all. I like it.

I don't find the blood ideal, I'd certainly prefer a clean Predator, but for everything that comes with the BD P2, I'll take a little blood for the whole package, it's a well made, fun to own figure.

If I may chime in here for a moment, the only thing about the blood I don't care for is that it looks like it was applied sort of randomly, not exactly where it appeared in the movie. The color itself could've been matched better too, imo. Most people seem satisfied with it, which is a good thing. I don't suppose it will be too hard to redo the blood apps to match the movie, though. In any case, I'm not really worried about it one way or the other.

No problem. Yeah, I first heard of the site over at OSW. VP is the first place I check for 1/6 items. I don't know why the delay w/ BD Pred, but sent them an e-mail earlier this week and heard back March. I have the HT PMC figures coming soon from them, too.

Just a bit of an update for all those that ordered this from Viking Playground, I asked them what's the delay and here's the update:
Seems like these figures are delayed until April - at least this is what I was told earlier by distributor. Looks like their shipment has been delayed first because of the Chinese New Year in February and now it's going to them on the ship.
So it looks like they're getting the second shipment around the same time that Toys Square should get theirs.

Well, the SSC exclusive BD pred2 arrived yesterday. Looks good, smells good. I don't care for the awful AvP preds, so after the Pred2 Elder, this in my 2nd predator. Cool. Hope I live up to the challenge to assemble them one day. Wait-list for Wolf pred converted a couple of days ago, so, now I hope that IF HT brings out a BD version of the Wolf, that they do it in time for me to cancel the original. But, to be honest, I don't see the point in a BD Wolf pred. But... there's a BD Predalien, so... Oh, and I still have to see AvP-R, but I think I'm not going to like it.

June? That works for me as I have just forked out for a few expensive items so that'll give my wallet a rest! Have to agree with you on the price, they are pretty good for us overseas buyers and I've bought a fair few items from them when I havent been bothered about getting the SS Exclusives or just want to save on shipping. I have patience when it comes to waiting for my goodies to arrive. Besides, I have all the images from my fellow board members to keep me going until I actually have the item i hand.

Well I have assembled about 12 HT predators and they all have different things that pose a challange when putting them together.

With the P2 models you have to be VERY carefull putting the belt/waist armor on, the connector at the back is small and easy to break.

With the Wolf predator, putting the waist gear on can be tricky and if you decide to modify the plasma casters that is where the hard part starts.

Other than that, putting the head on these newest figures has become far easier than the older AvP predator line. And Needle-Nose pliers are super handy when assembleing these killer models.

if it's going to be the only one of the three versions, I would say yes.you get'em all in one. if you already have a BD2 then thats alot of $$ for a bio. unless you are planning on selling it down the line. I guess I'm trying to say YES!!

it is settled. Im buying the P2 BD aswell XD. Then i guess ill have Wolf, Celtic, Normal P2 and P2 BD. That should be sufficient for a while ;).

He's pretty much the most straight forward of the Preds, but caution is always the way forward, try not to force anything.

I did write this in my review, I'll cut and paste-

I did choose to warm the plastic loin cloth before trying to struggle it over his hips, and I fiddled a little getting the thigh armour as tight as I wanted, but it was all pain free and pretty straight forward, I didn’t even break the instructions out till I needed the springs (admittedly, that’s because I didn’t spot them at first in my excited frenzy to build the beast). The only modification needed was to take some fine string or thread and loop it through the front of the netting shirt then loop under the groin and thread through the back as well, this stops it from riding up when posing (STOP PRESS! I just found a length of black elastic in with my instructions; this is obviously for tying the netting suit down).The instructions also say you need to tie the strings to the belt, you don’t they come already applied.
