I can't believe there is not a thread for this game yet! What a bad ass game. I am loving it. I just beat Slash on medium. What a pain in the arse. At the same time this is a great game! Does anyone know how to unlock the Beastie Boys Sabotage?

I love this game, but right now all I've got is the demo for Xbox with the Xbox controller, which in some ways is easier to use than the guitar, but in some cases it's harder, for instance when you have to repeat a note, or repeat two notes which is easy with the guitar but not so much with buttons. I hope to get this for Christmas though.

This game is prejudiced against left handers (just like real guitars). I've been able to do some stuff on medium, but mostly I stick to easy. But I don't have the time to invest in it to get really good.
It's a great party game though.

It does for the 'Finger' coordination, anyone who's played guitar already already has that down, making it a little easier to play this.

I think what threw me off was WHEN to strum on the game. In real life you strum when you want sound ( duh ), but in the game I was too early at first and I was like, but NOW is when I should be hitting the damn "strings" :lol

I admit I have not played my real guitar much at all in a few years. I have a Fender Strat ( One of the ones made in Mexico ) collecting dust. I play guitar and I thought that would help me more with this game than it actually did. Some of the things like hammer-ons and pull-offs are similar to real guitar playing, but pressing down multiple frets on one string does not make a chord. This does give you an idea of what it would be like to play a guitar with one string, but it would take five more rows of buttons and several more frets to approach reality.
I haven't quite figured out how the multiplayer works on this. Can you do co-op career over Xbox Live?

I love this series, but out of the 3 main games I think GH3 is the worst, just barely better than GH80s.
Too many fast and heavy songs and not enough melodic and bluesy songs with "taste".

I just got this game for the Wii yesterday... as I'm new to the game I started out on easy. Not to bad, beat it and felt pretty good. Then I tried Medium... holy hell!!! Talk about ratcheting up the difficulty quickly. But still an awesome game, I'm hoping more titles are released for the Wii.

I bought GH 2 a few days ago and absolutely love it. I played for the first time on Thursday and figured what the hell, it's something different for a change. Went with 2 because there are a ton of songs that I love on it and the MCR pack as well.
I beat easy with 4 or 5 stars and 1 perfect song. Medium is a lot harder though. I haven't failed any songs yet but I'm mainly only getting 3-4 stars with a few 5's.

I bought this game too a while ago but haven't played it too much because everytime that I do, I feel that I am wasting my time. I always feel like I should just pick up my real guitar instead off pretending on a fake one. Same thing goes for Rock Band too, I was hooked on the drums for a bit but then I felt foolish and returned to my real set. :lol

Did you get it for 360? Do they have the real songs or is it a cover ofthe songs? I have heard that its not the actual songs in the older ones but I know GHIII has the actual songs at least on Wii.

I played the wii version and it appears to have some sort of delay. It was really odd. I couldn't play songs on medium that I can play on hard. It was also embarassing booting up a song and talking about how I can play it perfectly. Only to fail in front of everyone in the first 30 second. :o

It kind of makes you wonder what people could do if they put that kind of skill into something actually useful. I mean, I spend a lot of time looking at new 3D animation things and learning stuff because it's something I enjoy, but I really hate math and stuff like that, but if I liked it as much as I like animation then I would be some kind of mathematical genius. Or apply something like that to medicine or something and it makes you think.

From what I've heard there are parts of songs that allow you to strum once and then just play the notes, and that's a part that allows it.
galactiboy
12-29-2007, 04:52 AM
Yep, you can do hammers and pull-offs. So you strum once and then can hit multiple notes. Kinda like a real instrument.
Kabukiman
12-29-2007, 08:15 AM
...how did he play the notes without hitting the strum bar?
Like galactiboy said, it's called a "hammer-on." A hammer-on is used by musicians on a real guitar by sustaining the vibration of one strum to play multiple notes really quickly. If the musician's fingers are strong enough, no strum is needed at all. You can do this on Guitar Hero, but only when certain note icons are displayed.

In GH 2 there was not a special icon to tell where Hammer-ons and Pull-offs could be used. You had to figure it out with practice.
In GH 3 the note button will have a glowing effect around it.

Lou on Medium made me give up on the game for quite a while. I don't know how many times I tried but it was so frustrating! Then weeks later I just thought I'd give it a try and bam I got it right away, funny how that works sometimes. I really wish GH3 wasn't quite so difficult, GH 2 was perfect IMHO. I have a fighting chance on GH2 on hard, but on GH3 I frick'n lose it!
GH2 = 330 gamescore
GH3 = 55 gamescore
'Nuff said! I swear, I've played them about the same amount of time. GH3 is still a great game, don't get me wrong, I just wish it wasn't so focused on Expert players.

If a note on the screen is topped with a glowing white circle, then you don't have to hit the strum bar, just do a hammer on. Your life will get MUCH easier when you master those. Just hold your finger on one button, add you finger to the next button and you get the note. Go through the tutorial that explains it, and you will be very glad you did. Some of the harder songs will require you to use this technique.

I'm sure your keyboard is saved, usually they don't have much in the form of electronics in them.
I really like Guitar Hero, but the only thing I've used is the Xbox controller to play, no guitar yet. So some things are easy and some things are hard, but I'm just starting to get into the Hard difficulty, not doing to well though.

Wow I am glad to find out the 360 guitar is a complete piece of ****. I have had the thing for 9 day and I was gone for 5 of them, I have played this 3 days prior and the guitar is broke. I had to fight ever urge i had to smash the thing into a 1000 pieces. If you hit t he green and the red buttons together the game hits green red and yellow when you strum. Makes playing kinda ****ing hard when you cant play any combos of red and green. Im taking the guitar back to best buy and they better swap it out or anyone in the socal area may here about me on the news.

I picked up Rock Band and have been having tons of fun. My new favorite thing is to play guitar or bass while singing along with the Xbox Live headset on. I can't usually read the lyrics but that doesn't count against you, thankfully.

I got to try the singing on Rock Band and did awesome on Sabotage. I think that was just because you really don't have to sing too much on that one. I was just shouting the whole time.

Why isn't the PS3 Guitar Controller compatible with GHII? :cuss
Because they want you to have to buy GHIII

Yeah but I have GHIII and the PS3 controller. I want to play GHII on the PS3 as well using the GH3 controller.

How would you play GHII then or can you not at all? I thought you couldn't use any PS2 controllers on PS3.

Since the PS3 is backwards compatible, I was hoping I could play the PS2 version of GHII on my PS3 but using the GHIII PS3 guitar.

There's supposed to be a patch coming out for it soon Fritz.
I just bought GH III for PS3 today, and am playing Medium right now. Almost done...
The jump from medium to hard is ridiculous....
I like Rock Band better (more to do). But, I am having a blast with GH III right now also....

Rock band looks great but its not a great game for single players.

Yea, I usually play guitar and my wife plays drums. Last week we had a Rock Band party and had some family and friends over and we took turns singing, guitar, and drums together. I need one more guitar to use for bass. So, 4 of us can play at once, rather then just 3.
I love singing Radiohead "Creep" and Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive".

I have both Guitar Hero and Rock Band for the 360, so I have two guitars but I still can't convince my wife to play along with me. She tried once and couldn't get the hang of it.
i dont think it's a very good idea to buy rock band if youre going to be the only one playing. sure you can experience the various instruments, but the real fun is when you have a full band. Although i do love that you can customize your character with clothing and tats. thats pretty damn sick.

Have to agree, I am part of a Rock Band "band" and the one of us who owns it is always trying to get the band together to play. We just earned the Aerosmith Jet so we can travel the world. The game is great, but it is more of a party game.
Has anyone else found that the Guitar Hero guitar is a little more responsive than the Rock Band guitar, even if you are playing Rock Band?

I don't like the RB guitar and always play both games with the Guitar Hero version. The strum bar has a much better feel to it.

I can't imagine how hard he is gonna be on hard.

The games we did it on were both for X-Box 360. Synced up perfectly, but like it has been said it all depends on the system.

Beat the game on Medium. Slash was harder for me to beat then Lou at the end....
Now to start working on hard....
Fritz

I managed to beat Slash on hard a couple weeks ago and the songs seemed to get even harder after that. Many more triple note combinations. I haven't playing in a while though. I really need to finish Super Mario Galaxy so I can get back the GHIII and Gears, not to mention UTIII.
Just got this for free on the Wii, freakin cool i like how the wii remote goes into the guitar. nice choice of songs too, but i hope they add downloadable content for purchase.

There will be downloads, according to the developer. Last I heard they were waiting on nintendo to create some sort of delivery system.
I just finally got around to buying this for my PS3. All I can say is my fingers are so damn sore! lol I'm only on the medium level....and though I am still rocking....I'm starting to fail miserably now that I am in hell. :monkey2:monkey2 May need to go to practice. :lol

It took me awhile too...finally realized I needed to save up my attacks on him and then hit him with 3 when he starts his final solo, then he goes down pretty fast.

Haven't made it to the battle with Lou yet...(did on easy but not yet medium). I'm still having trouble beating the songs on that final level. I suck when it comes to doing all those doubles! :lol

I didn't have to much issue with Slash, but Lou was a pain in the ass. I finally learned to use the attacks when he was about to get his keeping him from getting his.

I'm having a helluva time after beating slash on hard. I don't know if it's me or did it just get super more difficult after that? Granted I'm not playing as often but I warmed up by playing a few songs on Medium which weren't overly difficult but I just can't beat any of the songs on hard after Slash.

I'm trying through Hard now, there's just some stuff that's too hard. I can't beat Joe.
And there's some songs that play notes too fast---I'm playing on my computer with the Xbox controller so I have to press each button rather than press the buttons and strum, so while it's easier in parts, there's parts that have a lot of fast repeating notes and I can't hit the button fast enough.

Thats what you get for getting 2 instead of 3.
3 has a lot of really good songs, plus it has songs you would never expect to see. Who would have thought Dead Kennedy's would be on his game.

Bummer its (I think) a sound alike... don't think Jello would ever PC up the language of one of his songs. At least I hope he wouldn't.
