The PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has gone gold! We got news last night that Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing.

Midway has started talking to retailers to figure out exact timing and they will have a formal announcement early next week when everyone is back from the Thanksgiving holiday. My guess is that Midway will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10th and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th

From my buddies I used to play the UT with they said at least by the demo it was so-so. Of course you can only get to much from a demo but they said it was a letdown.

A quick glimpse at Epic's PS3 version.

December 11, 2007 - After a few hours tinkering around with Epic's PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, we have to say we're very impressed. Epic has, at least upon initial examination, done a great job making sure PS3 users get the full Unreal Tournament experience. Not only does it control well with the SIXAXIS, but the game features fully customizable mouse and keyboard support, along with the ability to load in mods. Perhaps most impressive, especially considering the number of PS3 versions of games that run poorly when compared to their counterparts on other platforms, this version's visuals are brilliantly detailed and run, at least as far as we've seen, as a very smooth clip...

Right now you will have difficulty key binding some of the commands, so as of now your custom commands will not carry over, but Epic has already started releasing patches so it could come soon

FInally picked this up today with some X-Mas Gift Cards and man is it bad ***!! The action is fast paced and frantic, the weapons are awesome and I love the fact that you can play multiplayer with 'Intelligent' A.I.! :D The drones in this game will hand you your ***! Map editor is only with the PC version. But really, it's quite fun and the game really runs well on the PC. But the single player is quite lame.

It's also lame about the cross-platform mods, they were headlining that you could put mods on the PS3 but it's not quite what you expect, you have to download the mod onto a flash drive or something and load it onto the PS3 so it's not like there's some menu where you can search through files and then just download them. Hopefully when they release the Xbox version it will have the online functionality for mods.

I'd have to agree with Ill that the bluetooth earpiece is way better than the 360 mic. Clearer sound and a great connection. Although i've never had a problem with my 360 mic other than the muffled sound sometimes, and the fact that my dog ate my wireless mic.

I'd get it on PS3 (this coming from an xbox fanboy like myself) b/c it's:

1. Already out :duff
2. Gives us the option of playing multiplayer on each console
3. The 360 version is rumored to be out late spring/early summer
4. Rumor has it that the size of the 360 dvd (DVD-9 format) won't hold all the maps that the blu-ray disc holds

Nah, i'm picking it up either this or next week. I've been too wrapped up in Drakes. I do hear though that the online play is awesome, the framerate is fantastic, and it's really fast paced with lots-o-weapons.

What the 360 dvd won't hold the hard drive will. There are ways around everything.

It should hold them all just fine. If it can fit Gears of War which must be at least it's equal if not more, and Mass Effect, then it shouldn't have any problems with UT3.

I also heard that they're about 90% done with the 360 version and it'll probably come out in April.

It is somethin called Nat it must be set at 2 where as mine is 3. go to test internet connection and the last test will be nat type. I bet yours is 3 also.

I would if it wasn't for the Bluray player. I just bought the remote today and love it! I think it is great. I just think the gaming could be 1000 times more user friendly. I will however promptly sell my Unreal game. What a complete waste of money.

I should be able to work this system as well as the 360. Bar none. It should just work. Why would they package tools that didn't work? I shouldn't have to buy anythink. That is crazy. It either works or doesn't. It doesn't. Sorry Bagels. I don't know why you want to take the hard stance on this one. I am always open to different things. This system sucks and is very non user friendly. Hence the sales results. I will keep it so I can play FF and MG but it is truly the weakest link and will no way ever touch the success of the 360 or Wii. I am sad by this because I would have chosen Sony in the past. Now since they can't make stuff that works well, I am not so much for them anymore.

Find your router in the list, then select the Playstation Network and it will show you hoe to forward the correct ports. the other option would be is to set the IP of the PS3 in the DMZ which basically puts it outside the firewall.

While I agree with BadMoon that the console is not as user friendly for online play as the 360, I am going to give it time. I remember when Live hit in 2002, it had some issues out of the gate too...nothing like we're seeing that the PSN isn't as integrated into the gameplay (like being able to check a message in-game or check your friends list).


I agree with Bagels that the Home network should alleviate some of these issues. Or at least am hoping...

My nat settings are at 2. Whatever the hell that means. I have a netgear router. Model number WPN824 v2. I tried to create a game and I was the only one in the room. Kain tried to join and it told him the room was full. :rolleyes: I then just tried to join a random game and my unit froze up. :rolleyes:

I think the reason kain couldn't join is his setup so don't worry to much about that. As for the lockup I have no idea.

I broke down and got a PS3 today, got to love bestbuy no interest for 18 months on my PS3. I could have paid for it but hell if I can pay for it over 18 months even better.

Damm that makes it a lil more complicated. You will have to go through the port stuff I posted before. When it asks for a static IP i wants the IP of the PS3. I am sending you an PM.

Nat is network address translation. What is does is allow you to have a set of IP address inside your network share one internet address. In the past you had to have one internet address for each device to connect to the internet. Then Nat was invented what it did was allow all the devices to share on internet address. In your setup your Modem or Router is given a single internet address, the the router will use NAT to allow all of your devices to connect to the internet all sharing that one internet address.

Now what does nat 2 and 3 mean. There are three levels of nat for the PS3.
Nat 1 is directly connected to the internet, not going thru any router.
Nat 2 is using a router and nat to connect to the internet and all communication PS network is made correctly.
Nat 3 is using a router and nat to connect to the internet but not all the communication to PS network is made correctly.

Both Nat 1 and 2 are good, nat 3 is bad. Basically it's the PS3s version of xbox lives open , moderate and limited nat when you test the live connection but there are 2 levels of bad connections.

Nat 1 and 2 are the same a open.
Nat 3 is either moderate or limited.

Never mind. Everything I have found said it is a problem with the game. Epic is even admitting it. Apparently it just doesn't work. They said you may have a chance of it working once in a while but if you do you are lucky. They are currently working on it though. What a pain.

Never mind. Everything I have found said it is a problem with the game. Epic is even admitting it. Apparently it just doesn't work. They said you may have a chance of it working once in a while but if you do you are lucky. They are currently working on it though. What a pain.

They have it setup so that the system will auto connect the blue tooth Headset when it has the ability to be used. I turned of the PS3 and headset, turned on the PS3, turned on the headset then went to the start new chat thing and as soon as I entered the chat area I head the tone that the headset connected to the PS3. They are just not connecting when they don't need to which makes sense.

No, I've never had any problems connecting to games, I've played Resistance online many times. The problem is that the router is too far from the PS3 and the signal is too low.

Hey Badmoon I am having almost no issues and I just got mine:D. I have not been able to get voice working on UT3 but I can hear the headset is active but I dont think anyone else is talking. I did find that you have to change a setting to talk. In setting for audio there is a mute voice and its set to full which mutes voice set it off. I think very few people are using it which is why it seems like its not working for me.

I'm sorry, but the 360 headset better than a Bluetooth mic? I don't think so. The 360 mic is always screwing up, when I played online with the BT mic, it was crystal clear and never had a problem with it.

I don't think he is saying he has played UT3 with the mic but Resistance with the mic and it works great. I don't think there is anything wrong with your mic or the PS3 I think it is UT3.

If you don't have an external antenna then you have to go with the repeater/extender. If you have a small removable antenna the first link would do just fine, if not the extender is you best bet. It basically plugs into the wall and you configure it connect to your wireless setup. It best to put it about half way in between device and router.

I know my parents old two wire modem/router had a removable antenna.

For now, they said to make sure that the "mute chat" was turned off in the audio options, and to remember that it's a "press button to chat" game (like in certain modes on Halo 3). You have to press right on the d-pad to chat. You can also change it to any button you want.

Put it on a flash drive and then load ut3 go to community, my content, then press square to import it from the flash drive. I just put it on and I like it.

Keep in mind though allot of console users opt not to play with keyboard and mouse users for some reason. It may limit the games you can get into. I for one do not see nor will ever see the advantage. That has been allready proven for me with Shadowrun.

On NYE I was at a friends' who had a LAN setup with UT running on it. He asked if I wanted to play and I said no, as I am controller kinda guy. He says he has a Sidewinder I can try. While he's trying to reconfigure the control scheme, I got imapatient and sat down to a mouse/keyboard setup.

I was surprised that it did feel good. I got a lot more sensitivity then I am used to with the controller. I am sure there were a lot of things I didn't know how to do, but had the basics down.

I could be swayed for UT3.

On NYE I was at a friends' who had a LAN setup with UT running on it. He asked if I wanted to play and I said no, as I am controller kinda guy. He says he has a Sidewinder I can try. While he's trying to reconfigure the control scheme, I got imapatient and sat down to a mouse/keyboard setup.

I was surprised that it did feel good. I got a lot more sensitivity then I am used to with the controller. I am sure there were a lot of things I didn't know how to do, but had the basics down.

I could be swayed for UT3.

I like controllers for most things, but the layout of the PS controller makes it hard to really use the sticks for me. Its hard to move up to the buttons for me. The 360 controller seems to flow easier.

Yeah I just found that. People need to learn how to write instructions. When you say unzip a file to the root, that mean the file goes to the root, not keep the whole directory path they had in the zip.

Well once again I almost succumbed to UTIII for the PS3. I went to Blockbuster this afternoon and was going to rent UTIII and give it a try. However, I was upset to find out Blockbuster no longer has the buy after rent option so I decided against renting it. Some outside force just doesn't want me to get this game for the PS3 which is kind of odd since UT3 was one of the reasons I actually bought the PS3. :rolleyes:

But don't fret my friends, all was not lost. There is a liquor store beside this Blockbuster so I bought a 1.33 gallon mini keg of Heineken. Now I'm not really a Heineken fan but it was on sale and it was convenient for all evening football viewing. :lol :duff

I LOVE the Heineken mini keg. It's not my favorite beer of choice, but I love the mini keg....no bottles all over the place. Just one glass to wash and 1 empty mini keg by the end of the night.

I was doing some reading and it seems that it works if you make sure the mic is synced prior to entering the game. Maybe we should try and test that as a group instead of assuming its not working. There were some initial steps to try and see if that works.

Yeah but how do you know that there mic is working or even set up right? Just because you cant hear someone doesn't mean its not working unless you know that someone else can hear them.

Yeah, I know if I don't go into the Accessory setup in the XMB first, I get nothing from the headset.

It does seem spotty during the games, but that could just be that no one else on the team re-synced beforehand.

Whats odd is I think my my syncs up when I start the game. It will be dead quite then once game starts you can hear a low level static like the mic is now active. I have tied to talk but I guess most people don't bother with the mic since its believed it doesn't work.

Same here, I don't have to resync, my mic usually works fine for other games. for UT3 though, not so much. Maybe we should all try.

Before you turn on the game in settings make sure your mic is working.

Start the game and in audio settings make sure mute voices is off.

In input settings make sure toggle speaking is bound.

Also, if you have the Bluetooth headset, there is a small button on the top of the mic. It's got a little + sign (with - sign being on the opposite side).

yeah that's what i always use. but i was wondering if they were 2 different settings... the setting the mic volume is on (the actual headest) and the volume that the ps3 reads and transmits through the speakers (the ps3 setting). not sure.

It really is a good game, on PC I'm having a great time. And I'm sure that the Xbox 360 version will be really good. I just hope that it ends up having mods downloadable. Right now I've got it on PC with Master Chief and 3rd person view and it's great.

I'm betting the 360 version outsells the PS3 and PC version combined. Should be out soon and I'm going to give it a try. They really didn't do a very good job promoting this for the PC and PS3.

It's pretty awesome on the PC, just all the weapons and vehicles and gametypes--it's incredible. They did an amazing job. And it's nice to know that the 360 version has a great online service along with split-screen, so I do recommend it.

It's using the new Unreal Engine I believe so i must see.

Plus it was first developed for the PC meaning it's got much better graphics than most other Unreal 3 engine games on consoles.

It's definitely not the worst game ever, maybe for PS3, but that's just because PS3 sucks.

You're not too far from the truth. I spent a few hours playing yesterday and I don't know if it's the worst game ever but it really isn't meant for a single player campaign. This is really a multiplayer only game. The single player mode is pretty much like team slayer in Halo 3 with your team and the opposing team all controlled by AI rather than other players.

Good thing I got it for free otherwise I'd feel cheated.
