Not really into RPG stuff except KOTOR (yes I realize it's by the same people) so i'll pass for now. Too many cool games on all the systems coming out.

This is a game I've been waiting for for years. So yeah, I'll be getting this one, but not until Wednesday because I've got classes tomorrow and then I'm driving back home and won't be getting back until late.

But seriously, it's an amazing game, and I like how they've changed the combat to be somewhat like a shooter, it makes it more interesting.

It looks awsome but i havnt played RPG games before. What do you do in a game like this? Talk to everything, gather clues or stuff like that?

Some of it yes. However, this game has RPG and first person shooter elements. Also all of the dialouge is spoken. It apparently has very very good voice acting.

I agree, it looks amazing though. Right now I am still playing Call of Duty 4, Heavenly Sword and Guitar Hero 3 and I'll be getting Uncharted Drake's fortune and Ratchet and Clank via Gamefly soon, so it'll be a while before I get to this.

Uhhh, the FPS element just gave this game a big + in my book. That makes me seriously want to get it. So you don't battle enemy's like in Final Fantasy where you have to pick a power and attack and then wait before you can make your next move?

WIth COD4, Resident Evil: UC, Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, i need like 100 hours in a day now...

Absolutely LOVED KOTOR, KOTOR 2 wasn't as great but still good. Still wish that instead of Mass Effect, they were making KOTOR 3

Actually it's Third-Person shooter, but basically you can choose your weapons and aim and fire, but you can also pause combat so that you can give commands to your group on how to attack. And for RPG you choose your missions and gather information.

If you want a more in-depth look then check out the gametrailers video review:

It's not a Gamestop exclusive LE, it's on Amazon.com also. And they do ship so that it arrives the day it comes out if you choose overnight shipping.

Well
--they had it just for preorder, now it says it's unavailable, maybe they changed something. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Game-Studios-Limited-Edition/dp/B000XJJRTI/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1195488988&sr=8-10

I'm just going to go to Wal-Mart and pick up the regular, the LE doesn't really have anything about the making-of so it's not that interesting.

darthviper107

They had a high demand for the LE so they stopped taking in-store preorders for it. And it looks like Amazon oversold orders so they've stopped taking orders. But Gamestop.com is still taking orders, if you order within the next 15 minutes you can still get the overnight guarantee so that it arrives tomorrow or your money back. But it still kind of sucks, the shipping was $9.99 and there's tax. But I got some extra money so I think it's worth it. Plus I just read a more in depth list of the extras and it does have a making-of documentary.

Also, don't forget about the Limited Edition (numbered) Commander Shepard 8" resin statue:

That's where Gamefly rules in my opinion.

Say you were to buy 1 game a month per year, that's 12 games for $779.27.

With Gamefly you can have up to 4 games (I have the 3 game plan) out a month at $29.99 a month, that's 36 games at $389.52!!

Plus if you choose to keep them you get them much cheaper than retail! :rock

I couldn't sleep all night I was so pissed. I fealt more bad for Galactiboy. It would suck to know that something you just bought was just broken. It looks fixable. I'm definitely getting it BadMoon! I pre-ordered it at work at Best Buy few weeks ago, and got a nice DVD with gamertag pictures, Xbox Live dashboard themes, and some interviews with the Bioware developers, and game footage. I will have to wait to get it this weekend...probably in the middle of the madness of "Black Friday"!

There is some great voice acting it in from the likes of: Lance Henricksen (we all know and love him as Bishop in ALIENS...at least I do!), Keith David (remember his voice in those U.S. Navy commercials?), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation), and Seth Green (co-creator of Robot Chicken, and various movies, and Buffy TV show)...to name a few. I really want to get the "special edition" or "limited edition" of this game too! I'm a sucker for extra content! I can't wait to play it! I got the first KOTOR game that Bioware made for the first Xbox and loved it! :D

I barely played man. I only got to the part where the one guy ( forget what they are called ) shots the other guy in the back and you find that one napping loser behind the crates. Then I died 3 times in a row trying to kill those dudes you run into right after that.

The assault riffle SUCKS hard core. You can't look down the sights and it never hits anything.

I noticed that the longer you aim in on someone the more accurate it gets. Also if you are in cover mode when you pop out it is allot more accurate. The reticle gets smaller to let you know you are honed in on your target. I still can't figure out how to use items. Like the gel stuff on doors. I guess I should stop being a douche and read the instructions. :rotfl

On the doors.....you have to push buttons in a quick sequence if you can hack stuff which my character can, but I never get it right. Then it locks me out and says I don;t have enough gel to open to the door.

I have a strong feeling I will play this ONE more time and if I get bored or frustrated I'll trade it in next week. :lol

The first locked door you come too there is an open door to the left of that. It was in a thing on the floor. I opened it up and got the gel. Then I couldn't use it. So I started over and I am glad I did. If you open up that door there are people to talk too in there.

Hmmmm, I remember going in there and the thing on the floor, but I thought I only got a gun out of there....maybe that was another crate I just got a gun. I dunno. I think this is gonna be a trade in game as it appears to be something that will frustrate the **** out of me.

But luckily mine has arrived fine, haven't been able to play it yet, but the extra disc is pretty cool.

Better I think. It is just hard for me right now to come home from a long day and listen to story and have conversations. I would say if you loved KOTOR you will love this game. It is much more adult in story as well. I just can't wait for Saturday. I am starting over and paying attention.

I've got to chime in here...

I'm an extremely picky gamer....most games that people rant, rave and set themselves on fire about I can never figure out why (i.e. "Halo 2", "Chronicles of Riddick", "KoToR", etc.)

But this is easily one of the greatest games I've ever played. Loved "Halo 3" and "Call of Duty 4" but this one has me hooked like nothing since "Morrowind" back in the gold ole' days.

It's massive, very in-depth, and the production quality is out of this world---from the soundtrack down to the voice acting.

Give it a shot if you haven't already...

Definite buy, if only for the graphics. The interface is better than I thought, the combat really isn't that hard, you just have to pay attention to the type of enemy you're fighting and remember to duck behind cover and such. I think it's probably better than KOTOR. Although with this I'd really like to see how they could do a new KOTOR game now. They are most likely working on one, but it's an MMORPG which means the graphics will probably not be as good just because it has to work online too.

Same here man. Bioshock was hyped up a lot and I got excited about it, it was appearing to be one of the greatest 1st person shooters ever.

Until I got it and it turned out to be an average 8 hour FPS experience with some new "weapons" and bad guys. It was alright, but definitely a let down in my book.

Really the only thing I can think to be wrong with it is just that they throw you into a world you don't know about and it can be a bit confusing because of that. And also the problems with having to go somewhere but you don't know the area so it's difficult. The missions work well though, the goal is pretty obvious so it's not confusing. And I'm glad they didn't add an ammo system because that would be really annoying.

Mass Effect is great, but just realize that it's an RPG so you'll be spending a lot of time listening to people talk, but there is some great combat. Also, while normally the combat isn't really that hard, there are several points where you'll come up against something that's really difficult and it can be frustrating when you die a lot. (right now I'm stuck at a part like that).

I've played Timeshift and while it's interesting to do the slow motion/stop/reverse things, it's really not all that special and it ends up being kind of dull. But you can try it out and see if you like it, there's both a single player and multiplayer demo on the Xbox Live marketplace for free download.

You should note that this isn't your typically droning "metal gear" cutscene dribble. The story line is top-notch...and all of the dialogue is interactive and can be handled several different ways from the viewpoint of your character.

First time in my life I wasn't impatiently tapping the buttons to hurry through cutscenes. Actual facial expressions in a video game? Witchcraft I say!

I played a little more yesterday. I liked it more than the first time I played, but I still don't like the combat play very much.

Why the hell is the sniper riffle so choppy? When you try to move your sight around it "bounces" a lot and won't stay on a target. You have to pray when you shoot that you pulled the triger at the right time when trying to focus in.

The assault riffle is useless unless you're 2 feet from your target as it just sprays bullets all over the palce except AT your target.

Darth Loki
11-26-2007, 06:43 AM
I love this game but I feel your frustration. I think a lot of what you're going through with the sniper is the fact that you have a low score on the accuracy. It seems that the higher the accuracy, the less it moves around.

8 hours, holy crap. I'm like 4 hours in and I'm still browsing embassies and lower wards.

8 Hours is for the game critics who have stacks of games to go through and don't have time to waste talking to everyone.

Although I think I'm going kind of fast, I'm at like 3 hours and 20 minutes and I've gotten past the citadel and was able to go to another planet, now I'm just stuck there.

But really it's been longer, there's been several times where I've gotten further along and then die and realize that throughout that time it didn't autosave at all and then I have to go through it again and make sure I save. And usually when I go up against people a second time I'll start dying a lot for some reason although I did fine taking them out the first time through. So the 3 hours doesn't count the probably 5 extra hours I've wasted from dying.

I'm at level 9 with my created male character I named Mike (after myself) Shepherd. He is a soldier. I'm having trouble defeating those frikkin' "sandworms" on remote planets when you get close to surveying an "anomoly" on a planet. How do you beat them? I tried to keep my distance in the "RV" car and shoot them with the guns and missles. But their green slime spit keeps killing me and my two friends in the RV! I hit the yellow "Y" button to repair my RV, but sometimes it's too late! Can anyone out there help me with defeating these annoying "sandworms"?

Thanks! :D

darthviper107
11-28-2007, 12:37 AM
For me I just keep moving, when they try to shoot you just move out of the way. I just try to get off one shot with the canon before they go underground again and then try to keep moving before they pop up. And don't use repair, you can't move or shoot while it repairs plus it takes 15 omni-gel.

Also, make sure you have leveled up a lot before you go to Noveria, I went there right after the Citadel and it made me have trouble since my character wasn't all that experienced and I kept dying, although luckily I just completed it. (also, at the end if you choose the 'nice' option you get 25 achievement points).

they are VERY similar games. ME has a lot in common with the SW universe too. you have to learn about the new universe in ME where as in KOTOR you just had to learn character names so it takes a little bit longer to catch on but it's worth it. i've only been able to play a few hours but i love it. take KOTOR and rip out the SW theme and put it on a nex gen console and you get ME....oh yeah and instead of using commands for your actions(when you are fighting) like in KOTOR you actually fire your weapon, etc. similiar to a first person shooter.

It's very much like KOTOR, but the only problem I have is how your team works, you can't switch to the other characters (which makes sense for a shooter rather than turn-based) but as a weird thing if your friends die then you can revive them or they'll just come back automatically after the fighting is over, but if you die then it's game over which is really frustrating. Plus, your friends are really stupid about avoiding enemy fire, they'll just stand there as an enemy throws a biotic power at them and then die.

But really it's just too beautiful to skip, I love lens flares....

What happens in the Gentelmen's club after 5 minutes? All I did was just sit there and the girl dances and all I can do is lean forward or leave.

12 hours, Level 37

Although it actually took much longer than that, I had several points where I came up to a Boss and it took forever to beat them but that doesn't count towards game time.

It sort of sets it up for a second one, but it would be possible to stop at this one. Although I know they are doing a 2nd and 3rd one.

You know, you can always come back to the Citadel after going to other planets, you don't have to get everything done there at once.

As far as main quests, I recommend doing the Artemus Tau cluster first (you pick up an additional party member there). Then go to Teros(or Eros, or whatever it's called I can't remember). Then Noveria, then Virmire--at least that's my recommendation.

good game after the 2nd play-thru, but man, do they expect you to play it so many times? :pow got half way on the 3rd play, but just got kinda lame. still, it's a good game. i would give it a 8.4

You don't have to play it through multiple times, but if you want all of the achievements then you do.

Yea, I'm going to play through again to get the renegade option, which I should have done in the first place. Dont' think I'm goign to go to every planet, that would take forever. I just can't wait for KOTOR 3 to come out from bioware.

yeah, that's my point. If you want to get all the achievements, your going to have to play it more than 2 times. I just don't like leaving thing uncompleted. I like getting everthing.:D

Got ME for Christmas as well. So far I love the hybrid style! Also, the game looks incredible! I love the film grain effect, it looks too clean and sharp without it, I really feel like I'm playing a movie vs a video game for the first time I can remember. The dialoge is sharp and worth putting the time in to. As with most 30+ hour games, I know it will take me quite a while to play through, with so many other great games to play, but I realy hope I can eventually play through it a couple of times. Between this and Super Mario Galaxies, when will I have time to play GoW and COD with all the freaks?

The first time through, yes. I shaved almost 12 hours off my initial run through on my second time. Still a great game and easily in my top 3 of all time.

I am in the same boat fellas. I want to beat ME on hard and as a ^^^^, I want to buy Super Mario Galaxy, I want to beat GH2 that I just bought last week on all levels, and I want to play online with my boys. Just not enough time to do everything. Then there are more great games coming right around the corner.

Just "bought" Mass Effect today after work, as well as Uncharted and finally got around to playing it after watching some ghost hunters. Was getting kinda late so I just wanted to create my character and then play the game tomorrow all set to go. Ended up playing for roughly 1.5 hours before I decided to stop for the night. Its alot better then I expected it to be.

Bad thing is now I have a few games to finish:

Mass Effect
Mario Galaxy
Rock Band (Expert)
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Folklore

and thats just the games Im concentrating on atm, I still have games I have yet to open/get into....gotta stop buying these games before finishing current ones.:monkey4

I'm glad to hear about the 30 hours, actually. That means there is tons of stuff I've yet to do in this game.

Oh, I'll go Asari next time. I was just a sucker for Ashley's lips and bod. :lol

(Also, I like when she says, "I'll warn you... I'm a hellcat off the battlefield, too." :rock )

By the way, did anyone else pick up the prequel novel by Drew Karpyshyn? It details the early adventures of a young Captain Anderson and his relationship with Saren. Can't wait to read it now.

I'm waiting for the book that's coming this summer about what happens between Mass Effect 1 and 2.
Currently I'm on my second playthrough, I think at like 22 hours, Level 47, final mission. And apparently to complete the achievements that require you to complete "most" of the game you really need to complete almost all of it, because I did as many sidequests as I could find and only got the achievement for having Ashley along for most of the game right before I left for the last mission, so I hope I get the achievement for Wrex once I beat the game.

New DLC hits Xbox Live Marketplace March 10th.

Titled "Bring Down the Sky" it will add a new uncharted world, a new race of aliens and add 90 minutes of additional gameplay.

Oh, and a new achievement worth 50 points.

No word yet on the pricing.

I think they said it's going to be like $5. I'll try and get it, going through a third playthrough now.

Because of the acquisition of Bioware by EA they have made an agreement to release Mass Effect on PC this May.

So, finally we can try and Max out the visuals, I'm also looking forward to fooling with the program.

Just read this by Drew Karpyshyn, author of Star Wars books Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Darth Bane: The Rule of Two, Knights of the Old Republic I and II, PLUS Mass Effect. This guy is pretty much my God right now.

What other projects are you working on, in terms of both writing and gaming?

I've always got a number of projects on the go. We just finished the Xbox 360 game Mass Effect last month, and I've already started working on the story, character, and dialog for Mass Effect 2. I'm also hard at work on a second Mass Effect novel coming out in spring of 2008 to go along with Mass Effect: Revelation, released last year. After that I'll be putting the final touches on an original fantasy trilogy I've been working on so I can start trying to find a publisher. And, like most writers, I've got a couple of screenplays that I'm kicking around, too.

So Mass Effect 2 is already being written :rock:rock:rock:rock:rock

Mass Effect was planned as a trilogy (with books before and between each game) from the beginning.
