I'm thinking it's the Predalien hybrid. Between that and the Wolf Predator, I imagine SSC would rather tackle the hybrid because it is a completely new look as opposed to a variation on a Predator.

I wonder if it really is the Predalien, there have been numerous images already released of it, why would they want secrecy now, unless some element of the design reveals a feature of the beasts that gives away a plot point they don't want us to know, but the visual cat is out of the bag, we know how it looks.

While I'm not as passionate on this issue, I too feel this is a poor idea of not identifying the maquette ONLY because of the FlexPay cancellation policy. This is one time where it should be waived. Why should someone have to pay $20 for reserving this item only to find out it's something they don't want?

I don't think the USA Today article is a giveaway of the product, they also link the trailer. Those are just the two biggest peaks into the film that have been out so far so they're sharing them. If it's Predalien, I'd be tempted if it looks like the film enough, because with SSC over HT, you can get more slime effect on a statue than a figure.

Why are people so upset, just don't order it til you know what it is, there isn't going to be a sell out of an unknown item, there just isn't that many fans who'd blindly buy anything Alien or Predator without seeing it, especially at this price.

You might be right,but think about the poor schmucks that do FLEX pay this thing and then find out later it's something they don't want.I think they need to cut this kind of marketing bullsh%# out.Also too,they need to release their all their production run pieces either better or the same as the prototype,never less then,all bullsh%# aside.

I don't see what's wrong with this, it's a tease marketing thing and if people buy this blindly and get pissed I don't feel bad for them, that was a poor choice. It'll be revealled in time, I don't see a need to be concerned about missing out on FlexPay or anything.

That is an option as well? If so, then completely disregard my original opinion. No problem at all pulling this mystery stuff. I just didn't want to see anyone get hit with a Flexpay fee if they didn't like the item when it's unveiled.

But order it regular to secure it, wait for the unveiling, and then Flex it? Sounds like a good plan. :)

I agree and think that it is the predalien. I mean at this point it is pretty obvious based on the facts that we have. the thing is, it really doesnt matter what it is at this point because the thing costs 900 freakin dollars.

so no matter if it is a predalien, wolf predator, or regular alien, the thing had better be absolutely incredibly badass for it to justify the high price tag and large shelf space.

the dimensions on the thing are huge - 27" high, 12" wide, 16" deep

Great marketing ploy, which has really stirred the pot. Everyone holding back makes it a great 'in road' for the flippers. This is going to be great. With a high price tag, you're going to need as much notice as possible. First quarter 2008 isn't that far away. You'd have to be hoping for a delay.

Given their cancellation policy I see no problem with it. I know flexpay carries a cancellation fee, but like I said earlier this thing will not sell out before pics are posted so that should have no bearing either.

Like I said, odds are it will be the Predalien, my only doubts of that are based on the boat load of official images out of the thing, it seems odd why there would be secrecy now, unless like I said earlier, something we haven't seen about the creature would be revealed in this maquette and we're not to know of that yet. I'm curious to see, if it's the Predalien, how different the maquette is from the final suit. The film creature definitely looks great and exceeds my expectations for how it would appear, even from the sort of teaser image with the Predator blades up through it's jaw.

I don't have any inside info - but the only things that we've seen in this price range have been the 1/4 scale maquettes of the Predator and the dog alien.

It stands to reason that this is a 1/4 scale version of the only truely unique design from the upcoming movie - and that's the predalien.

Take NECA's new Hybrid figure...straighten the right arm back to match the left, switch the position of the legs (left leg forward, right leg back), bring the tail around the right side of the body and raise the head a little...THAT'S your maquette. :cool:

Wasn't it McFarlane that did a toy of the Tooth Fairy based on concept sketches and then when the film was released the design of the creature changed completely? Perhaps Fox and SSC want to avoid something like that. With CGI the predalien design could continue to evolve up to a couple weeks before release.

They sure did. I still have that figure and it's much nicer than the actual Tooth Fairy character design in the movie. Not that you actually got to see her all that much.

Yeah,I like Predator and Alien,but I don't like the PredAlien hybrid.I also think that if there was an PredAlien hybrid,it would'nt look like this,it would look a lot less dramatic.Just like the Human Alien hybrid,it looks humanoid in the fact that it has arms,legs,feet and hands,but that's it.It looks completely orignal to it's kind.The Dog Alien is another good example,it didn't have k-9s and floppy ears,but instead moved like a dog,this is the direction ADI should have went.

I really am unsure about whether or not to get this. I like the concept and from what I've seen in the film trailers and such I like the way it was realized, the size is impressive. The price doesn't really bother me as its around $700 at some etailers and its doable, I just can't decide whether or not to get this or pass it and wait for a PF down the road. The price is virtually two PFs and Indy is on his way....

On the whole I'm liking it, they've kind of done what nature would, i.e. a hybridisation between the two species. The problem is we don't know how much our DNA or that of the dog/ox affected the evolution from a 'pure' alien in the examples we've seen before. In fact, as the Alien always needs a host (as far as we know) to procreat, then is there such a thing as a 'pure' alien any way?
My only real misgiving are the dreads, too obvious and contrived...the original 'Kane' alien didn't have 'his' hair. And the Ox alien (OK it 's a dog alien in the theatrical release) but when Fincher and his design workshop originally devised the beast as an alien/ox hybrid they didn't give it horns... perhaps they should have.

Proof of the pudding will be in the watching, roll on Dec 25th, Ho, Ho, Ho!

you'r giving Fincher and ADI to much credit for the creature in Alien3, Fincher from what I understand under stand had little input on the Alien's disine and ADI clearly put little effort into the idea of a Hybird, likely do to the fact that they knew that the consept might change any mommet.

not only that but they didn't make a "Dog Alien", They made a "Cat Alien", they even say in an interveiw on the quad set that "It's a cross between a freight train and a jaguar."

Fincher deserves credit for the overall movie. The religious undertones and the whole Apocolyptic religion fits VERY nicely with a woman arriving on Fiorina which is against the brotherhood code. Coming along is an Alien which kills them all. They think Ripley is temptation and the Alien is Redemption sent to them by god to be tested. Marvellous plot if you ask me

Very, very impressive.

I think the impression that somethings not quite right, that you just can't finger, is because we've never seen the beast before.

Once we've seen the movie, this one will be a keeper.

should be a queen seeing that it can reproduce. again, im not 100% on that but i remember readig somewhere that the predalien was unique it the way that it gurgitates(is this a real word?not very good english,sorry) an embryo directly into a hosts body.

Maybe...just maybe they are going to make a Wolf Pred Maquette to complement this piece...looks like it could have an inter-lockable base of sorts (one can dream can't he...lol:D)

That is a strong possibility. I watched one of the trailers again last night, and it throws it's arms behind it's body like the maquette while the mandibles flare open and a predator grown comes out, so that could be the Predaliens attack posture, much like in Predator when the Pred puts its arms out to fight after Arnold says "you're one ugly mother****er".

I believe so....unless some news has changed that we aren't privvy to. The SSC newsletter just refers to it as just the AvP:R Predator so maybe the "Wolf" title has been dropped? :confused:

They may be less insistent on a Predator name in this film since there's only 1, I think the names were just to help people distinguish in the last one since the armor was similar enough. It'd be cool if they had names, like The Wolf, the most feared of Predators. Interesting now that I think of it, there's never been a species name given to the predators, aliens at least have the xenomorph name.

yeah im not too fond of the term "yatuja" either.. doesnt sound one bit menacing.i think that name started with some of the comics.

i like it when theyre refered to as "the hunters" though:D.

Actually, the directors named the Predator 'Wolf' after the Harvey Keitel's character in 'Pulp Fiction', because Wolf cleans up messes(IE: kills all the Aliens and leaves no trace of them behind).

It's a name they gave him behind the scenes, just like how they called the PredAlien "Chet".

I like calling him just "The Predator", because it reminds me of the credits in the 1st two Pred films- "And Kevin Peter Hall as The Predator".
