EDIT: This thread is now for all Super Robots (Shogun Warriors) including but not limited to:
Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser, Getter Robo, Giant Robot, Tetsujin 28, Reideen, Combattler, Gaiking, etc...
So,
Seeing that there's a lot of anime fans here, I'm wondering where are the Mazinger Fans out there??
Even though the original TV show is from the 70's, it was hugely popular in Latin America in the 80's. I grew up watching this cartoon in Mexico, that along with Tetsujin 28 and Astroboy set the bar for future anime shows and definetely are one of go Nagai's most influential creations.
This are product pics of the Soul of Chogokin series from Bandai by Tim Brisko!

Being a huge Soul of shogokin fan, I'm looking forward to seeing your collection. I myself own 4 of the 6 Eva's - still need the yellow and the red one, a Mazinger Z OVA version, a Tetsujin 28 repaint version (getting the original soon), Black Ox, a Ufo Robot Grendizer black version, Daiku Maryu Gaiking black version. Not that I prefer the black versions over the colored ones, but at the time, these were the only ones I could get my hands on. Usually I only buy these robots if I can find them for a good price, but even at full price, they are worth the money.

I didn't really watch the show, but I've got a couple of the diecast figures-- the Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and the Mazinkaiser released by Aoshima and the more recent Max Factory one. Here's an old collection pic, you can see three of them lined up in the back:
http://wildcard.geofront.com/collection05/set3/03-03.jpg
One of my favorite renditions of Mazinger was the steampunk re-imagining done by Fewture, Mazinger 1901 (this one was a repaint color version):
http://wildcard.geofront.com/newtoys/mazinger.jpg
Not made out of diecast, ABS plastic I think, but very nicely detailed...
Fewture is releasing a new set of diecast re-designs as part of their EX Gokin (http://artstorm.co.jp/ex_gokin_series.htm) line called Mazinger 1969, they look pretty trippy, very organic:

I need the EVA 00 blue version, which I heard was really nicely done. And I have 2 Kaneda bikes as well, the other's still in its box. When I heard they were doing the bike as a chogokin, I was totally geeked :)

The Blue EVA was the first I ever got. It's exactly as all the other EVAs, awesome. It comes with the spear of Longines, as you know. Remembering buying the blue EVA is as joyful, as it is sad: I had the chance to buy the red and the yellow EVA too, but I only bought the blue. So now, I'm still trying to complete the set by hunting down the red and yellow EVAs!

I love the SOC figures... I only have 2 of them (used to have 3), but I think they are fantastic. I also have the 70's Gaiking Shogun Warrior, which is one of my favorites.

Super Robot Chogokin by Bandai!!!

Announcing the Super Robot Chogokin figure line by Bandai
by Andres Cerrato on 05/18/2010
The overlords at the Bandai Collectors Division decided that it's not enough to parade around new kits at Shizuoka without showing off their great line of action figures. Teased around for months has been the unveiling of a new chogokin line of figures. The new line was formally announced today as Super Robot Chogokin. The figures will resemble Bandai's popular of Soul of Chogokin line, but will be around 6 inches in height and feature PVC and ABS plastics alongside die-cast metal.
To usher in the new line, the first figure detailed is Mazinger Z, who will be priced at 3675 yen in August. Alongside will be a separate weapons pack, loaded with effect parts, released on its own for 1050 yen. The following month will see the release of Great Mazinger, coming in at 4725 yen. The last of the known releases will be Super Robot Wars OG's Alteisen, which will be available for an October release for 5040 yen.
The best part of this line has yet to be fully announced, but by judging from the prototype samples on display, this could end up being a tremendous line-up. Daizengar, Gear Fighter Dendoh, Cybuster, Raideen and God Raideen, Sun Vulcan, and Shin Ken-O are all figures that I could easily want right this moment. I'd kill a man if they promised me a Dragon Cesar (Dragonzord) in this line. Seriously, I'd do it.
This line-up holds a ton of promise and looks to remain in a decent price range. What super robots or sentai mechs would you kill for in this line?

yeah im pumped for those Super Robot Chogos, they look awesome, my one complaint is that they look like revoltechs. Lets hope Bandai puts some diecast in there...and not just use it as a marketing ploy. I do love that there doing the Super Sentai robots like shinken-oh and Vulcan also I see Altstein in those pics...cant wait for him also.
Yeah that teaser trailer for the Daiku Maryu Gaiking trailer looks so awesome. Well hopefully once I get the house cleaned up and I get my shelves back in order I'll be able to put all my robots back up on display.

'Gaiking' movie update
It's been over a month and a half since the world learned that Gaiking, a movie about giant robots, was in the works.
The project is based on a 1970s Japanese anime series but was better known in North America as a toy line and Marvel Comics series called “Shogun Warriors.”
Jules Urbach is the man spearheading the project, which is using a technology called Lightstage, a next generation of scanning technology that already won an Academy Award for its use in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” (That movie's director, David Fincher, is big proponent of it.)
Heat Vision decided to check in with Urbach to see what the latest is.
Heat Vision: What can you tell us about the genesis of the "Gaiking" movie?
Jules Urbach: It came out of our work with Fincher. We were talking about doing something for "Heavy Metal."
At the time, it was Kevin Eastman and a few other guys that were going to do a bunch of shorts for him, and he said to me, "I can give you seven minutes if you come up with something cool." And being such a huge fan of these properties, I had been touch with Toei for years. Going back to 2002, I've been asking them to the rights of "Captain Harlock." And it turned out that the rights to "Gaiking" were more or less available.
So when Fincher's project came up, I said I want to do a super robot short. And he said sure, but you got to pick two "Heavy Metal" songs. So I picked Nightwish's "Dark Chest of Wonders" and "Planet Hell," and went ahead planning out a seven-minute "Gaiking" short with Toei's blessing.
But "Heavy Metal," it was at Paramount at one point, it was at another studio, then Cameron got involved, and it lost its home. We ended up taking "Gaiking" and just worked on it and worked on it, and it kept building and building.
And at some point, Toei said, "Wait a minute, you guys can do a whole movie now at this quality." They backed us and then other people came on board and we were able to turn this into a pretty big film.
HV: "Transformers" is pretty huge. and there's a "Voltron" movie in the works. Is there room for something like "Gaiking" that isn't that well known here?
Urbach: "Voltron" really took off because of the great cartoon. "Gaiking" never had that and neither did "Shogun Warriors" as a whole. The only thing we had was "Four Spies" here in the U.S. And that was only shown on the East coast for a little bit. I can only imagine how this property would have been perceived if we had a normal cartoon.
In France or Italy, this is bigger than Spider-Man. Toei understands this will do very well in Europe, where the cartoon is well-known. They approached us because they wanted somebody outside Japan to take a crack at this.
Our goal was to figure out a way that would be appealing to an American audience. And while there's a lot of people who played with the toys, we are not counting on any of that. For most people, this will be completely new.
And I think we did a good job introducing it, even from that little teaser. It's just been exciting to be introducing it to a lot of people and seeing their reaction.
HV: Are you worried about the title being a little inaccessible? Why not go with "Shogun Warriors"?
Urbach: We wanted to introduce one robot and thought it should be the focus of the film. It's like you want to introduce Superman before you introduce the Justice League, right?
The title is something that we're still looking at. It's in the mix. We are very aware of the possible limitations. I can't speak for Toei, so I can't speak how it will be used in the marketing of that film. We just want to use it wisely.
HV: There was a time when there were a lot of giant robot cartoons. And now with special effects technology being where it is, we're poised for a movement in movies. What do you think is the appeal of giant robots?
Urbach: Gaiking and those kinds of robots, you're talking about giant robots that are piloted by humans. You're not talking about Transformers, where they are their own characters. These robots are the extension of the pilots; they are really like giant suits of armor. So it's really the people inside them that are the characters. That is a huge differentiator. Gaiking is one pilot. It's really the pilot expressing himself through this giant mecha.
HV: So what's the status of “Gaiking” now?
Urbach: I guess you can say we're in preproduction. The reason we released the teaser when we did is we're done designing the robot. And even a lot of the costumes and the characters. We basically put as much as was ready to be shown in the teaser. And the next step is get a writer -- we have a treatment for the movie -- and get a full-blown script. That should be done in the next three months.
And we're looking at 2012 as a potential release date, but it's not set. It could be 2013.

The super robot wars games are really awesome if your into turn based strategy. The last SRW game I played was Alpha and that was a damn long time ago. The new ones that are out now they do more super deformed stuff, but alot of times get exclusive new robots which alot of times spawn into there own exclusive toys as well. If you like turn based games there awesome, if not you might be bored, but seeing all the classic robots just makes me so happy.
Im just glad there are people who still appreciate the old robots. Alot of these new anime and robots I dont really care for. Hopefully Bandai will someday make Dairugger (vehicle voltron) or even a SOC of GO-Lion.

Tetsujin came before Mazinger. Tetsujin, Mazinger, Getter Robo,Great Mazinger and Grendizer was the follow up to Mazinger...some how apparently. Then if Im not mistaken Getter G came to light.
Ok cool I wasnt sure if that was the Aoshima or the Maxfactory. Ok I'll have to look into that, Yeah thats a nice Mazinkaiser all around.

Correct,
Tetsujin came out in the late 50's and was widely popular in the 60's
Mazinger in 72...

@ Kuzeh, yeah I have that toynami Lion Voltron, along with the old Voltron. When i put the 2 side by side there a funny to see. The old voltron is so fat and not articluated at all...while the new sleeker toynami voltron is pretty nice. As I said I just wish someone would do a Vehicle Voltron...excluding those new vinyls that are being released. I want a transformable verision like the old one as well, but with the sleekness that the new lions have.
Great thread :hi5: This is my super EVA chogokin :yess: 18cm tall :thud: very well build

Those SOC's are cool I always wondered what they looked like. I saw at big bad toy store they had some SOC's on sale. I really like the jeeg robot. Does anyone know anything about him? The only anime I could find on him is in Italian.
ArmoredFoe
05-27-2010, 04:18 PM
yeah Jeeg is a cool robot, along with the anime but he often gets overshadowed by Mazinger, but both were created by Go Nagai.
Id be careful of the Chogokin though. When they made jeeg bandai was experimenting with a new build for the chogokins. Jeeg is connected by magnets at the shoulders and hips. Ive heard hes ok, but also heard that sometimes his arms or legs will just randomly fall off since its only a magnet holding them together. If its for a good price might be worth the risk though. Ive just heard that sometimes hes not very sturdy. Hes one of the ones I passed on when it initially released from all the reviews I read.

If you are asking about this Mazinkaiser, it's not from Aoshima. It's from Max Factory, distributed by Good Smile Company. I have it and is the better Mazinkaiser figure IMO:
http://www.1999.co.jp/itbig04/10043298a4.jpg
I just got this recently and I have to agree it is definitely the beter Mazinkaizer figure. I owned the Aoshima version for a short period, while its heavy and a really great die-cast toy, it's just not very fun and poseable.
The Maxfactory Mazinkaiser has great articulation, tonnes of accessories and a kick *** display base. Get the Maxfactory version if u have the cash, definitely worth it.

I agree with you, Probably the Maxfactory has better detail but the Aeoshima respects the size and his scrander is big well as in the series.

TV and toys set to relaunch 'Voltron'
Latest project to scrap plans to reboot via bigscreen
By MARC GRASER
The reintroduction of "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" will begin with an animated series on Nicktoons and a new toy line from Mattel rather than leap straight onto the bigscreen.
That's the plan from rights holders World Event Prods and Classic Media, which are attempting to relaunch the massive robot, popular in the 1980s, to a new generation.
It's the latest of several properties to scrap plans for an initial film in favor of relaunching the brand through TV and toys.
Warner Bros.' animation aims to produce an anime-influenced version of "ThunderCats" for Cartoon Network to revive the '80s property, which has had a feature treatment stuck in development.
Likewise billionaire Haim Saban bought back "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" from Disney last month for about $100 million to reboot as TV shows on Nickelodeon and toys.
Starting next year, Nicktoons will air 26 half-hour episodes of "Voltron Force," about five space explorers who pilot robotic lions that combine to form Voltron, an invincible guardian sworn to defend the Universe.
Series will remain faithful to the old show, while introducing new recruits to fight alongside the original characters.
New episodes will be timed to the 25th anniverseries. It's the first "Voltron" TV project in 10 years, although an iPhone game came out in December.
WEP and Classic Media ("Casper the Friendly Ghost," "Where's Waldo?") will produce the toon with Kickstart Prods. ("Wolverine and the X-Men"). Classic Media is shepherding international distribution, merchandising and licensing deals.
Mattel will tie-in with the anniversary to launch toys based on the classic "Voltron" range, as well as action figures and playsets that revolve around an edgier, modernized robot. There is no date on when the toys will hit shelves.
"What's paramount is getting the toys right," Ted Koplar, president of St. Louis-based WEP told Daily Variety. "They're pretty involved toys that have to transform and fit together."
WEP and Classic Media had been developing a live action feature for some time but scribes, including Justin Marks, have yet to lock down the right tone, producers said.
Hasbro took the opposite approach with "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe," relying on the first films in the franchises in 2007 and 2009 to introduce new toys for the lines.
The move to TV makes sense: "Transformers," "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" and "G.I. Joe" were introduced to kids via shows produced by Hasbro and Mattel to sell toys. "It's an exciting way to introduce the brand to a generation that isn't familiar with 'Voltron,'" Koplar said.

Dont get me wrong I love them, but it leads me to beleive that this line will intake all the smaller robots and leave the actual Chogokin line for the bigger robots and maybe combiners with a bigger price tag.

That was pretty awesome, not sure if Go Nagai has anything to do with Maz Skl, but seeing all the violence and the "I want to rape" you imagery with the female bots, I wouldnt doubt that Nagai loves every minute of it if he isnt behind it. Hes always been big on hyper violence and basically treating women like sex objects...looks pretty awesome so far. Hopefully this will get released in the US. Im sure down the road other toys will be released.

It's VERY basic... just swivel joints all over... head, arms, shoulders, wrists, waist, legs, knees and feet.
Can't remember if the elbows are the only hinged ones, but I'm almost positive not...
These are very old-school type vinyl figures, but kick-*** ones...
I wonder if SS will carry Grendizer as well?...

Does any one on the boards collect them? I've recently gotten into SOC and am finding out they are some of th finest collectibles out there. Right now I have the Getter Dragon and the Spec-01. Would like to know what some of you have so let me know.

I have a few Gundam SOC's.
Had them for years, and they're still some of the best collectibles I own. Very high quality for such small figures - I totally dig 'em

I love SOC figures but lately nothing seems to float my boat. I was into that stuff in a big way until I went into 1/6 full time. I've got:
Gun Blaster
Voltes V
Dancougar (my favourite)
Baikanfu
Iron Gear
Mazinger (Fewture)
Great Mazinger (Fewture)
Wouldn't mind picking up Ideon if I ever get a window of opportunity in between getting all the 1/6 stuff...

I'm a big collector of soul of chogokin.
Dancougar and God Marz are two of my favorites. Some of these toys are re-makes of the old Godaikin line that came out in 1982. It is these Godaikin robots that started it all. They paved the way for the Go-bots and Transformers which came a few years later. They are much sought after now, and can range between $300-$3000 depending on the robot. You should also check out Daltanius. It's currently a pre-order but it is based off of the Daltanius that came out in 1982. Most of these re-makes are better engineered then the ones that came out in the 80s. And like their 80s fore-fathers, they are also made of diecast metal. Enjoy!

Tetsujin 28 & Black Ox. They have a cool light up feature: when they get close to each other for combat, they light up!

I use to collect the line, was there from the very beginning with the gx-01 mazinger. But lately they been doing a lot of obsure robots, I skip up on some, then a lot later on...there are still some good ones but I guess I just lost interest in the line..unless the come out with a robot I really really like such as classic jeeg or danguard ace. This was one of my favorite toyline before, nice price, great engineering, lots of gimmicks, great articulation, diecast, etc. But I guess they just arent producing anymore of my favorite robots.....

I think the SOCs are starting to get up there in price to point of now I question which robots i'll get. It looks like the newer unfortunately smaller Super Robot Chogokins are what there trying to get out now. The actual SOC line is being left for there bigger combining robots now. I dont have a problem with it, just lately they've been doing robots I dont care about. Im still waiting for Dangard Ace. I know Yamato did one, but i never picked it up so I wish Dangard would get the SOC treatment.

I collect these, but focus mostly on the classic 70's - 80's super robots, with an occassional newer robot. I'm not a fan of the recent SOC releases (Super Robot Wars, and the various Getter, Mazinger etc OVA remakes et al). My list:
- Getter Dragon
- Getter Poseidon
- Getter Liger
- Grendizer (full Speizer set)
- Great Mazinger
- Venus A
- Gaiking
- Reideen DX
- God Mars
- Ideon
- Mecha Godzilla 75
- Gunbuster
Got a bunch of these on a trip to Hong Kong, and still looking to get Voltes V, Combattler and a Mazinger Z. and am still waiting forthem to make a God Sigma.

I hear what your saying buddy. They are very strict with posting new threads here when you are what they term as a "newb". Don't worry, probably after 1000 posts, they'll start letting you post more freely. They are very touchy about new members, and often haze them even if you are honestly trying to post something that no one else really specifically addressed yet.
For whatever reason why they like to haze newbs, i really don't know. Maybe they didn't get the love and attention they deserved as a kid or they were bullied when they were younger, and now they want to take out their anger on you. You basically have to do a search, and make sure nobody else posted something similiar to your topic. If it is different enough, you should be able to post.

Sorry if anyone dislikes attempts to keep the board in check by minimizing excessive threads, but it hardly does good for there to be 10 threads on a topic when one will suffice. It keeps the conversations together, makes searching and researching easier, and makes the forum less cluttered. From my perspective, elder forum members won't get preferential treatment in this regard.
As for "noob hazing," I guess you are going to get that here until you understand the forum guidelines and norms. But once you catch on to the way things are done, you should be fine.

I actually only collect the few SOCs that i grew up watching as a kid. The Getters are my favorite. Those 3 combos cant be beat really. As for you wanting God Sigma, hes the next big guy to get the SOC treatment. If you go to collection dx they have a few photos over there. I cant post photos here at work. God Sigma looks crazy awesome, he'll look good standing next to God Mars. Im guessing he'll top out at about $300 for sure.
As for Chogos not getting the love, well think about it most people dont even know they make them and considering if you didnt grow up watching them as a kid you really have no connection to them at all. I mean someone whos not into the old robots they see a little 7 inch to say 15 inches in some case and ranging anywhere from $60 to $350 and even higher depending on the company. Most people arent willing to spend that kind of money on a toy even though hes a representation that in a sense even isnt popular anymore. Same reason why you dont see much on Dairugger (vehicle voltron) and Dangard Ace. I think robots/mecha are a very niche market and most people dont get it.
I mean even look at your anime clubs and such, if you even mention mecha most people are turned off by the robot shows.

I personally don't know how similar or different the subject of this thread is from the one linked by Kuzeh, but let me know if it warrants a thread merge.
I totally here what you're saying and I agree. It doesn't make sense to re-post things that people have already causually mentioned. But members like "mr.thrifty" have 3 threads all related to the Wolf Predator Bust under the Aliens and Robots section, and nobody stopped him from starting those redundant threads 3 times.
When I started that predator thread "Poll" of the contraversy of Berserker, I realize that it may have been casually mentioned many times in the main Berserker thread, but no Poll was conducted as to the true number of how many people actually felt he was worth buying vs those who didn't. The reason why I like polls so much is because you get a consensus "measurement" of what's going on. It's a good way to quantify people's opinions, and form rational arguements based on the poll data. Yeah I could have dug through thousands of posts in the main berserker thread, and individually counted who felt the berserker was worth buying and who didn't, but that's not really realistic right?
Let me give you an example of what I mean. Let's say I never conducted a poll of which pred was more desirable between hot toys berserker vs falconer. Then some member named joeblow posts a blanket statement on the main Falconer thread like-"Falconer pred is the best. Everybody likes falconer pred over Berserker!."
Now without conducting a poll, (because according to some senior members out there, it would be too redundant) I would only have two options:
Option 1- dig through hundreds of posts on that main Falconer thread and dig through hundreds of posts in the main berserker thread and count how many people were in favor of falconer vs berserker (which is teadious and thus, nobody would really realistically do)
Option 2: just trust what joeblow posted.
But after my poll on Falconer vs Berserker, I have evidence that most members prefer Berserker over falconer. So now I can refute that argument and say, Falconer is not the most preferred pred, because the poll data indicates otherwise. Argument closed.
I know you may still disagree with what I'm saying. But don't you think it's at least interesting to see the numbers behind the various opinions presented on some of these threads? I am, but hey, it's just me.
I'm getting into my long rants again, but just a final thought to some of the senior members out there with a short fuse or little patience for newbs:
If some of the new members accidently re-post something that was already mentioned in a prior thread, please don't be so harsh with them as you guys were to me. They are still learning. Just nicely or politely let them know that their thread has already been addressed and re-direct them to the related link. No need to be rude to them, put them down and then close their thread without any warning. Most of us "newbs" didn't come here to deliberately annoy you guys and piss you off. Most of us just want to share our opinions and be a part of the various cool discussions on this site, and be a part of the Sideshowfreaks team. Just my 2 cents.
"Can't we all just get along?" :1-1:

I closed the Berserker poll, and am sorry if that bothered you. However, I think the majority of board members (and, most notably, the board admin) would see that poll as unnecessary given that there was an entire thread dedicated to the figure, where most posts dealt with opinions and thoughts one way or the other. I can understand that you would like to get a count of pro and against votes, but in my view, that just does not warrant its own thread--particularly since that thread was just degrading into name-calling and smileys, and was ultimately not going to give you a clear indication of how members actually felt. Better to go to the general Berserker thread and ask specific questions about the factors that matter to you in terms of buying that figure.

No worries. I see where you're coming from even if I respectfully disagree, But please tell the other senior and more impatient members that some of the newbs out there maybe more sensitive and may not have the thick skin to take the hazing. I don't care if the senior guys on this board haze me all day long , but for the sake of the newbs that sincerely want to post their opinions and contribute, and may not be as well informed- just show them a little more respect and "guide" them if they make a mistake. No need to bash them, make rude comments and then close them out when they don't know better.

I don't care if the senior guys on this board haze me all day long , but for the sake of the newbs that sincerely want to post their opinions and contribute, and may not know better- just show them a little more respect and "guide" them if they make a mistake. No need to bash them and make rude comments when they don't know better.
Point taken. This board would not benefit from new members being run off in droves because they feel intimidated by others.
However, like I said before, if new members are willing to learn and modify their behavior to fit in with board guidelines and norms, that stuff will eventually pass. The bulk of the established members here aren't complete jerks, and I hope folks can stay around long enough to discover that.

I know that the majority of the senior members on here are cool dudes/gals. Just a few bad apples. I'll be sure to run some poll ideas around some of the senior members, asuming that they are reading my posts, before I post new thread polls again. thanks karamozov80, for hearing us newbs out.

Have you heard of the "Godaikin" line of robots? I think they are the ones that started the whole robot craze here in the U.S. They came out in 1981/82. These are like the holy grail when it comes to diecast metal robots. I think they were the first to transform and combine to form a bigger robot. They came out before the transformers. The original 11 that came out of the Godaikin line were: Tetsujin, Voltes V, GodSigma, Goggle V, Sun Vulcan, GoLion(Voltron),Daltanius,GodMarz,Godsigma, Garbin(Guardian), and combattra. I fell in love with these robots as a kid but my parents could not afford them. Back in the 80s, those Godaikin robots were expensive, and they still are today. Look to spend anywhere from $300-$3000 for each of the original 11.
ArmoredFoe

Yeah I know about the Godaikin line and I had Voltron and as stated in a few posts above Daltanious, I also had Dairugger aka Vehicle Voltron. There grails if you collect the big bricks that they are. There pretty cool toys to have, but I just dont care for much of the vintage stuff. I do have my Voltron (lions) and the toynami masterpiece set as well. Like I said i kinda prefer alot of the new reboots of these robots now with more articulation and such.
As for diecast content the robots are getting to expensive for there size and just not worth it. I'll still buy my favorite characters and all, but some of the prices are just crazy.

Yeah there are some crazy priced robots in the soul of chogokin line but in some cases I can see why. The engineering behind these transformable toys is pretty amazing, plus they are not made with cheap plastics, they are made with diecast metal which will bump the prices up. But in general you're right, prices are pretty steep. But it seems like prices are going up for almost everything you collect. Case in point-Hot Toys. Some of their newer figures are avg close to $200, with no diecast metal or the ability to transform!

Hey there Foe!:wave!
Well, I watched it last night,
and honestly, it's badass!!
I was pleasantly surprised by it...
I didn't want to watch them online, and I'm glad I waited for the BD...
The story is completely something else and it has pretty much nothing to do with either Mazinger or Mazinkaiser, but I liked it a lot!
The Mechas are pretty awesome and it kind of works as a futuristic vision of Mazinger and Aflodai/Venus designs adopted for Mecha armies... Also the nod to Devil Lady is pretty awesome!
Very cool stuff!
Apparently there's a Manga along with the series, and Mazinger appears there... curious to know if it's available in English...

To an extent i feel i have acid hands because a lot of the figs i end up opening break on me like the kowloon soul army figs or the shinki ones or the hot toys ones.

Dude I'm exactly the same way. I've got a bunch of mcfarlane's halo figs and I want to open them but I'm scared I'll kill them.

I open most of my figures unless there really small or something that I like but not enough to have them out on display. In those cases prefer them to look nicely in there boxes or packages. That Garada figure, while he looked awesome, had some bad engineering from what Ive read around. No loss.

01-26-2012, 07:51 PM
Well I dont think it should be an excuse either, but given the fact that someone has to spend lots of money to produce it and if no one sees it besides the few core audience who know who Gaiking is there not going to make money and could put them in financial trouble for future projects. It might do well in Japan, but in the US, theres probably only a handful of people who know the old Super Robots even exist. I look at the US as more of a Transformers type of robot fan. Just my opinion.

Really hope the SOC line isn't dead, i mean in 08/09 they did 17 releases including epic stuff like Big O, Dygengaur & Assuenseiter and Reideen!
Last year they had 3 releases.
Where the hell are SOC versions of Shin Getter, Getter Arc and Mazinkaiser!

I would love an soc shin getter and I truly hope this line does not die. The quality of these figures is damn near unmatched, especially if you can get them for like 65 bucks. I think the most I've ever paid for a mazinger figure was ova and he cost me 85-90 shipped.

SOCs not dead. Bandai is using the SOC line for their bigger robots and transforming bots. That is the whole reason they started SRC, because there non transforming "action figures" at an affordable price of peoples favorite robots. Strictly for the smaller bots. Im still wondering why we havent seen any Getters in the SRC line yet.
