View Full Version : WW I accessories
Hi all:
I hope that Sideshow can offer WW I accesories in the near future. I'm really impressed with the figures from that era and I hope to see more like Ausro Hungarian, Canadian, French colonials etc. In the meantime, it would be great to have carded sets of rifles, pistols, even uniforms used during WW I

Well what kind of WWI accessories would you like to see? Some artillery? A Maxim gun? Let's see some good ideas!
Okey dokey:
Here's a non-exhaustive list:
1) carded uniform sets of the various combatant nations (please include the French colonial, Commonwealth armies as well as Austrian-Hungarian and others. Please be bold!)
2) small arms like the Mauser 98 and variants+ bayonets; Mannchiler rifles+ bayonets+ Lee Enfields and Ross rifles+ bayonets, Lebels and Berthiers+ bayonets; the Carcano rifle and variants+bayonets Hotchkiss MG, the Chauchat, the MG 08/16 (the precursor to the LMG) Mosin-Naget, Mauser C96, the Luger, Welby revolver, Colt 45, the Springfield 03. some trench shotguns, the MP 18, the Villar-Perosa, other pistols and revolvers
the Vickers. Trench morters, grenades, pistols,
3) gear like trenchcoats, helmets, hats, haversacks, bedrools, backpacks, gasmasks, shovels, pick axes, webbing, binoculars, tins, crates and ammo boxes, ammo belts, first aid supplies, food, cooking pots and pans, canteens/waterbottles, boots and shoes, etc
4) Artillery like the French 75 mm, the British 18 pounder
That's all I can think for now.

How about an Anatomically Accurate 1/6 scale Horse Different color schemes as a series. NO mechanical legs or necks please! ;)
With different tacks used by the French, British, American and of course the Hun as carded sets. All the Armies involved in the 1st WW used horses.

I recall there were some pictures of proposed releases of uni/gear sets of the WW1 Sturmpioneer and Black Watch. Whatever happened to those?

As I recall, after the release of the ACW uni sets SST decided that there wasn't enough of a profit margin involved and they were cancelled.

That is tragic. Those sets were awesome.

Hi all:
My own view is that catering to the American civil war uniforms sets didn't appeal to foreign collectors like myself. By contrast, WW I was a global conflict engulfing many countries and peoples. SO there's much more interest and infinite kitbashing possibilities
Here's a suggestion, start with the weapons; I'm quite sure those would be very popular and would convince Sideshow to progressively produce more carded stuff.
Here's an idea that Sideshow can borrow from BBi. BBi has a WW II American radio operator with a free Osprey booklet specifically commissioned for the figure.
Why not dio something similar with the weapons set? (like a mini poster with the name of the weapons and the countries that used them)

I think that any set that included a German M16 helmet, or the French Adrian helmet would be in high demand. Those items are next to impossible to get a hold of short of buying another figure. They should sell well because a number of these items are useful for WWII, which already has a firmly established collector base.
Sargeguy:
Absolutely! For example, the Brits in Asia and the Mideast used the Lewis gun and '08 webbing as they were low priority areas in the early years of the war.
The German '16 helmet could modified for the Turks and AustroHungarians during WW I; the Baltic countries and Finland during WW II.

Was it about two years ago that SST was saying they'd have a French Foreign Legion WWI accessory set on the way only to announce it was cancelled? That seriously bummed me out. I'm not a WWI collector, but virtually everything they'd include with a WWI FFL accessory set could have been used to make 1920s, 30's and even up to 1940 French soldiers. It would have been a really cool set that would have had the added benefit of appealing to WW2 collectors. well, maybe someday.

A WWI accessory set with rifles and helmets (especially the German 1916 Helmet) would be highly desired and prized! :D

The weapons set sounds great. I vote for a Lebel and Mosin Nagant, also the German machine gun, the Vickers, or maybe a US .30 cal water cooled. With a French Adrian and the German M16 helmet thrown in. The Chauchat would be nice, side show would blow away the versions that Hasbro and SOTW produced. It should also have a French canteen and several varieties of French and German gas masks.
