Hello there, I'm very proud to be a part of this forum, I hope to be as good as every people around here :
Here my work and 'hope you like it.
Here we go......

Orlando Bloom as Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy :

I was pretty disapointed when I open the box, Legolas looks like James "Spike" Marsters from Buffy, he was to serious, too muscular, too tall and what about the hairsculpt (c'mon Sideshow, some of them needs real hair).
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5080/84919legolas1111122683lfj7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/966/84925legolas8124122648lix5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4451/imgp0039mm3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/996/01713legolas9122474lomp1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Tutorial :
- add him real barbie hair.
- repaint the face.
- change the body (changing his boots was a living hell) to a 301 Medicom body.
- fit his clothes to his new body (cut and sew a lot of stuff).
- repaint his arrows and his saber (Sideshow fool us about the scabbards).
- I add him the 12" DID Legolas belt and cloak (repaint and weathered, from grey to green).
- rebuilt and repaint (green to brown) his forearm protection, they are now functional.
Enjoy !

that's some great detailed work there.

Even though I was happy with the hairsculpt they gave us, I like what you've done with the real hair there.

You could do with taking some photos with his head in a different position though, having his head down like that on all of them makes his head look like it's too big and heavy for his little weak neck and he can't hold it upright :lol

I love the detail on the arm guards (whatever they're supposed to be called)

Nice job. The added hair looks really good and I am especially surprised at how much better (from your pictures) the DiD cloak looks on him. A bit too short, but I like how it hangs better.

And I agree about doll hair. Not against it at all, if it is done well and doesn't look toyish. Your application is not. Just plain super job!

Hello everyone.
12" General Grievous from Hasbro :
He's not that bad actually but he needs to be more close to the movie, especially the details (he's too small, his eyes are too sweet and what about his chest).
Remember from what I started :
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/8427/grievos2fb1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I cut off and separate almost he's entire body parts to make'em rotate.
I have also empty some element of his neck, chest and legs.
The cape is totally handmade (look the old crappy, shiny red & silver one).

Nice work C-Phan.

It is nice to see another Troy fan, and another great custom Achilles figure.

I am impressed with your work, considering everything is scratch-built. Well done mate. It looks like you have put a lot of work into this figure, and the results are amazing. :bow

Great minds must think alike, as I just posted some pictures of my updated Achilles figure also.:D I changed my existing Troy body to that of a Hot Toys "Drake" body, and am pretty happy how he turned out.
http://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24443&page=2

In fact is was after looking at pictures of your work in progress that convinced me to go with the muscle body for this character. I always had this planned, but wasn't sure if the muscle body was too "muscular" for Achilles. After seeing your WIP, you helped make me decide. So thanks.:duff

Cheers

Thanks dude, I am very flatterd to be considered as a starting point.
I saw yours too and I found this custom before on Ebay but the price almost give me a heart attack (it was a seller named Ironcrushunter).
I saw it in France too and I realy loved the details on his Shield/sword but the body was horrible (I bought a lot of this body before and 80% of them had a broken arm.
I'm not really happy about his head size actually (too big), I will try to cut off a part of his Barbie wig.

I just wanted to say how much I LOVE this Achilles! I think you did a TERRIFIC job on him. The hair is perfect as is your choice of the body, and how you dirtied him up. Dead on to me!

If I could buy him, I would, if he was for sale and affordable for me that is!

Hello, everyone, before the all Leonidas stuff, here a couple of stuff I wouldlike to step up about the Sideshow's Star Wars. I finally decide to buy some Jedi and I was pretty disappointed with their robes (especially with Plo Koon).
After a couple of research, I also saw that SST had some problem with color (like Kit Fisto).
But First of all lets focus on Anakin and PLo Koon's robe (by the way, thanks to Darren for the recipe of Anakin's headsculpt).

Left - original Sideshow production / Right - D-Art Studios production

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7167/anakinqn4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8299/jedilt5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

You can see the main difference between the shape and the fabric of the robes, D-Art Studios doesn't fool us with his terrific work.
I'll post more comparison later and 2 or 3 little details who bothers me.

Sachiel
11-04-2007, 02:17 PM
Is Plo wearing a regular robe or the one made specifically for him?

drunk_leprechaun
11-05-2007, 06:06 AM
oh wow, c-phan please post a few pics of the plo koon on the right if possible. his expression is mindblowing.

dedguy
11-05-2007, 11:50 AM
The c-phan capes/cloaks/robes are nice, I have a black cape for my Asajj but I do kinda like the Sideshow ones better in some ways. The stiff fabric Sideshow uses allows a certain amount of posing that you just don't get with the c-phan stuff which pretty much wants to just drape straight down. It takes some effort to get the Sideshow ones looking good but you have more options. I was even able to do a sort of "blowing in the wind" pose on Anakin's robe without the use of wires.

C-Phan
11-06-2007, 06:25 AM
Sachiel : Anakin and Plo koon's robe comes from D-Art Studio
dedguy : I'm not really agree with the top quality of SST robes, the fabric is too thick and if you add the multiple layer of Jedis tunic, they look like tanks.
Leprechaun : here ya go.

Original Plo Koon

Elevated neck Plo Koon w/D-Art Studio robe
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9589/plokoon2cp0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Here the other issues with Plo Koon, the colors of is clothes, too light.
I switch the pants with Anakin (who, in the movie version, is lighter the SST version), and switch his tunic with Kit Fisto and dye it with darker brown.

I raise his neck because he looked dug into his multiple clothes to make him look closer to the film.

dedguy
11-06-2007, 06:58 AM
I meant "D-Art" not "C-Phan" all the hyphens and letters got mixed up in my head ;)

My issue with the D-Art robes is that you can't really do anything like this with them. Sure it takes some work (treating with water for example) to get the Sideshow robes to drape well but at the end of the day I think you can get more realistic drapery out of them. I think Plo-Koon is an exception in that the complexity of his robe works much better with the heavy drapey polyester(I think?) robes D-Art makes. I also like the cape I have on Asajj better because it's a cape, it's actually black, and it looks a bit more cartoony which works well for her.

I don't think you could get a D-Art robe to do anything similar to Anakin's robe here.
http://dedguy.net/images/collection/2007/vader07.jpg

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just saying sometmes one thing is good and sometimes the other is. Just as not all 1/6 scale bodies are well suited for every application not all fabrics are suited for all applications. It also comes down to preference. I much prefer natural over artificial fabrics both in life and in 1/6.

C-Phan
11-06-2007, 07:13 AM
Indeed, I have to admit, you did a pretty damn good job.
Just a little question, why did you change Anakin and Maul's boots ?

dedguy
11-06-2007, 08:21 AM
For posability's sake. Anakin's I plan on fixing up to actually look like his. Should just require some added strips of pleather/leather. The Sideshow boots offer no ankle movement which means any sort of pose outside of just standing there looks awkward.

After Plo Koon's review, it's now the turn of Kit Fisto to be uprade
First of all, repaint his face, SS have done a simplistic works with Kit's skin. They simply paint some peas all over his head and tentacles.

mrhatrulez : pull his head off and add something (in my case, the rubber protection from the electric cables) and complete it with Apoxie sculpt.

Absolutely wonderful work C-Phan

Were you not worried about taking the heads of your sideshow figures ? Is there a special way to do it ?

These neck extentions, repaints and costume changes really make these figures into something really special

A keen eye to spot the flaws and masterful execution to make the necassary improvements I wouldnt have spotted those things in the first place !

C-Phan
11-13-2007, 05:32 AM
lerath666 : the hard way, cut and separate everything, empty the chest, the tutorial shows it all.
Mooncat : put the head to the neck in some hot water, wait about 5 minutes and pull his head off, it work for everything (boots, gloves,...).

Ok, after this little "Star Wars break", I will post the all Leonidas NECA WIP.
First of all, I will post minor work like repaint stuff. The biggest part will come later.
Just for the information, I will keep the NECA body, I saw 2 or 3 customs lately and most of the customizers change the body because the NECA's doesn't move and they'are totally right. I saw 2 with muscular Hot Toys body and one with BBI body.
They were good but as you all know, I always want to have the unique custom then I decided to not do like others and keep the original body and honestly, even the Hot Toys muscular body is not big enough compare to the massive Gerard Butler. NECA did a terrific work and capture the silhouette so well.

First work remove the Mohawk of the helmet and put some real hair (like I did for Achilles) and repaint his helmet in shiny gold because the helmet is much more brighter in the movie so the Shield and add more blood on the sword.

As I said before, I wil keep the Neca body sculpt 'cause even the Hot Toys muscular is not big enough for King Leonidas.
I just gonna add articulations to the original body. Most of the parts come from Hasbro Star Wars,
Here we go :

elbow articulations

Hello everybody !
I finally finish 12" King Leonidas. I'm pretty happy with this one even if he doesn't move as much as I wanted but think about it twice, does the HotToys muscular legs let him move much ? I don't think so.
I take some picture of him in the middle of the night (except 2 pics, you can see him with natural light) 'cause in France, the sun is pretty shy here.
'hope you like it, and don't forget.... it's all about the blood, the sweat, the tears !!!!
enjoy !!!

Dude! Your stuff is GREAT!
I went back in and saw your Scully, and am like WHOAH!
And now, this! This is one amazing peice of work! Your devotion to the NECA Butler body sculpt is refreshing, as I agree, they captured HIS physique and not some random body. His damn ab eight-pack! Dude was cut!
Anyway, you did him proud. And your solutions for each joint are mind-boggling! I love it! To see it done so successfully makes me crave to make one of these myself. Or some character like him (Arnold CONAN?)
So, rock on and know that your work, and your wonderful how-tos and in-progs are amazing!

STOP following Mcfarlane's statue figures! we want more movements, poses and most importantly ACTION!

Thanks Xeno and about action....Damn right !!!!

Here my latest project : Ray Park aka Darth Maul
Officialy, I did him almost 2 years ago, long time before Sideshow release, Medicom project or the unbelievable Callous headsculpt. I consider him finish 'cause I bought an extra Medicom body lately and change my early Maul's body to the new 301.
It may look a little bit outdated, especially after the Medicom version and headsculpt of Callous, but he was maybe my starting point in the world of 12" custom so he means a lot to me.
Here the recipe :

- Body : Medicom 301
- Head / Boots / Lightsaber : Hasbro 12" Electronic Maul
- Clothes : Hasbro 12" Darth Maul (sewed)
- Gloves : Sideshow
- Belt : Handmade

Hope youe like it, enjoy !!

Man, your skills just keep getting better and better man. That Leonidas was a work of art. You made that Neca body work, and didn't toss it away unused into the refuse bin. It's a great sculpt already and you gave it the needed articulation to make it happen. I would NEVER have been so bold. Amazing work man.

And to now go after Maul and The Crow?? You are a brave one. :rock

Hello, citizens !!
For the past few weeks, I continued to complete my Jedi/Sith collection, with some little modification of course, I receive Qui Gon and I had a custom Mace Windu long time before the SST release but he wore the old Hasbro clothes. I won some SST Windu clothes for cheap on eBay so I could change his clothes to be more accurate to the movie.

Here the recipe :

- head: Resin HS from Diver4 (recasted from the Hasbro Windu....)
- body : Toybiz
- boots/pants : Hasbro
- robe : D-Art Studio
- tunic/belt/hands/lightsaber : SST

Enjoy !!!

I really prefer the Hasbro headsculpt instead of the official SST Mace Windu headsculpt, and again, D-Art Studio did a terrific work with the robe.

I didn't say they looked good, I just use what I can get my hands on. I had Anakin wearing Hasbro Jedi Luke's vest, and talking Obi Wan's shirt (neck problems with Anakin reqauired covering the franken-neck post) and robe. Eventually, I won a SS robe on ebay. Hasbro sabers also get used as it is cheaper to buy a MIB Hasbro fig on ebay and reuse the gear. Pics when figures are presentable. There will be a dirt cheap SS thread.:lol

Wow, there's a lot of new face here lately, we are going to have a lot of masterpiece very soon.
As I said before, I'm going to continu my Jedi/Sith collection but SST are too slow so I'm going to complete the Jedi council by myself .
I'm already workin' on Saesee Tinn head and I receive Coleman Trebor and Darth Maul HS from Callous (and they are fantastic).
But for now I try to built Shaak Ti from Hasbro.

Just to remember from what I started :

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1339/212shaaktiet4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Ok.... so Hasbro release her with the entire black robe, cloak, shirt, a weird scarfe and a front belt with deer, her head is pretty well done except her eyes and the jewelry on her face.

reference photo
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7500/shaakti4rt0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Now where do you see black ? her entire costume is brown even her boots and her front belt is made of leather. It's gonna be tough.

First of all, use a Takara body and dremell the jewellery on er forehaed, then repaint the face in red !
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/583/imgp0007cy7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
There's still a lot of repaint, nothing is definitive, now I see that I have to resculpt her eyes.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7430/imgp0052rr4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I use a Qui Gon Hasbro cape and add a 2nd brown robe (handmade) upper her black robe (you can see that when Grievous kills her).
Of course still a lot of work to do like the scarfe, the front belt, the lightsaber, the jewellery...
More recipe soon !!!!

Hello fellas, I finally take some photos of my custom Jessica Biel as Whistler in the movie Blade:Trinity. I know the movie was a huge pain in the @$$ but Jessica is damn hot !!!
I was suppose to keep this one for myself but finally I'm going to sell it.
She was a huge work especially the jacket and the archery set, I don't know if everyone can see now how small is the Chan Ada's headsculpt.
Here we go :

Hey guys, I was still completing my Jedi council when I saw SST are going to release Secura and Mundi and I was working on Mundi with the old Hasbro....I saw many comments on the SST Mundi (zombie eyes, big head, small boots,....) so I will probably keep my own Hasbro.
First of all to remind you the Hasbro Ki :
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/1447/mundixr1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
...of course, Hasbro did what they could with the qualities and the defaults that we all aware of but Mundi is not the worst release from their Star Wars line.
The headsculpt is damn good and the clothes pretty accurate, just resculpt the beard, eyes and eyebrows, and sew a lot of his suit.
Here the recipe :
Head : Hasbro
Clothes : Hasbro
Hands : SST Zombie
Belt : SST Kit Fisto
Body : HotToys
Lightsaber : handmade
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/4713/mundi1fs0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1759/mundi2zu1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/7010/mundi4er8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3627/mundi5jh4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/9590/mundi6ms1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/4623/mundi7qb4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/7884/mundi10zt6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/7433/mundi8ay2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I'm pretty happy except the boots, I don't know what to do, make'em myself, wait for the SST ?
Still workin' on my Mandalorians squad and I finish 2 on 4.

Nice job working on something similar myself atm

My recipe:

Hasbro head (with resculpted beard and eyebrows and pony tail)
Buck Body
Rots obi belt and boots

Must admit the hands have been throwing me

However im getting Darren Carnell to paint the head so I may get him to paint the hands at the same time as I think a lick of paint is all thats needed

Nice work as always. What did you do to the shirt on the Ki Adi? I know the Hasbro shirt sleeves are real short and side. It seems you made them longer?
A suggestion on the boots: you might want to try getting some of the German jack boots and folding a piece of leather over the top of the boot to creat the fold that Ki Adi has on his boots. Either that or checkout Newline Miniatures, I think that they have some Civil War style boots that have that same sort of fold at the top of the boots.
Again, great work!

Hello, fellas, it's been a while I didn't show anything here, as I posted before, here my personal Mandalorians army, I didn't respect any real characters, just try to built an original concept with'em, they are a huge source of inspiration even if you have to respect 2-3 codes like the armor, the helmet and the jet pack.
Here the 1rst one :

I always wanted to built this character, this is not the best show ever but she hit our minds in a way, she's the archetype of the sexy woman who kicks some *** in a very cool outfit like Selene or Wonder Woman so after Brad "Achilles" Pitt, I use a very similar technique on Xena :

Well as you can see, the main theme of this one is "100% camouflage", and it was the one where I enjoyed the most to build.
I still have one last helmet and to be obvious, I really don't know what to do next if I want to do and original character, it seems that I use all my inspiration on these 3 Mando, I planned to do a female Mando but oit is maybe "too much". Tell me what you guys think.

I would say for your next work, if youre going to stick with the Mando's, try a Jodo Kast. The armor is basically the same as Fett's just some small differences in the gear and different paint color.
Also, I would say go for the female Mando. There's a lot of cool looking armor type stuff from Triad Toys and Cy Girls.
Cant wait to see what you come up with next.

Alice : he he, you note the Maul boots  the helmet is from Tomy and the rest is made of a lot of crap but with a little imagination you can do a lot of things with loose parts.

I was bored today so I took some extra pictures of my Maul's custom with this litle ray of sunshine and I finally try to do a cool pose for my tattoo Maul 'cause I was too scare to scratch the paint before :

Hi, everyone ! thanks about your comments about my Mandos, I thought this one will be the last one but I got 2 extra helmet, so I'll be able to start a female Mando and maybe a massive one too, maybe with a 13" DC Direct body.
Back to real Star Wars character now, I always wanted to add some real hair to Anakin and I was inspired by many Joker's redux so I finally decide to remove his plastic hair and switch it with a real wig, I also change the Buck body to a HotToys truetype :
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9499/anakinskywalker17vq9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2231/anakinskywalker18ok2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/173/anakinskywalker19ke7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4608/anakinskywalker20tu6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I'm not 100% happy but I don't think I can do better.

And what would be Anakin without his mentor : Obiwan Kenobi.
I finally put my hand on a cheap SST tunic to change his old Hasbro clothes, I also change his HotToys mountain HS to this one and change the body to a truetype......mmhh.. now I start to realize that he's brand new action-figure here...anyway, I'm finally happy with master Kenobi :

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/6339/obiwankenobi139kn9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

and finally I got the SST Ben Kenobi boots for my Saesee Tiin, I consider him finish now

melonjames : as I said, I use the same technique that I used on Scully, Legolas or Achilles, scalp a Barbie doll (or any rooted hair doll), replace it on your headsculpt, hide the joint with Apoxie and repaint it.

Thank you Jessica, I also love what your doing too with your Planete of the Apes universe.
Here what I'm working on right now, a SS Red Skull ! I was thrilled when I saw the Premium Format, to be honest I always told to myself that I will never have any military stuff but since my WWII Captain America, I realize that kind of stuff is totally awesome.
I pick this 1/6 skull and I was kind of disapointed wen I received it :
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9204/53f41b.jpg (http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=53f41b.jpg)
Really undersize but full of potential, and I was inspire by the eyes moving system Callous used for his Darth Maul headsculpt, and this project is the perfect opportunity to try it :
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/8498/94006328.jpg (http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=94006328.jpg)

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/3607/49435575.jpg (http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=49435575.jpg)

So I resculpt the skull and work on the eye system :

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7996/56843806.jpg (http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=56843806.jpg)

Still have to work on the details so stay tune !

Really cool stuff! I'm totally on the Captain America kick too!

When I saw the Red Skull project, it tripped me out. I've been working on almost the same exact project all day today. :google

I haven't taken any pics yet, but ours are very similar. I'm using a skull I picked up off of ebay, one of the suits from one of the Indiana Jones German and a bbi muscular neckpost that I'm modding.

I like your idea for the eyes, I've got something a little different planned that I'm scared may not work.:lol

After the wonderful Batman foes of Les, I'll try to create my own villains gallerie of the Dark Knight.
I will start with the Mad Hatter so here my viersion of him :
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9081/sanstitre1xr3.jpg (http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sanstitre1xr3.jpg)

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7665/step12a.jpg (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step12a.jpg)

Still unhappy with this details, I work on again :
