Went to Weekend of Heroes. I guess I haven't been following military figures much, but DiD is really getting into the field big time. It was extremely disappointing though that at a show co-sponsored by Ignite and DiD that very few dealers had anything unusual from either company and in the case of Ignite, hardly any product at all.
At their showcase booth they had boxes of the new "Greece (sic) Hoplite" but not a single dealer had them and Ignite wouldn't sell them. Same with their exclusive Knight.
But they did have some upcoming stuff on display - I thought I'd seen the Roman with segmentata armor on the web before so I didn't photograph it, but I hadn't seen this Roman General. Finally I can do a decent Maximus.

The helmet reminds me of Mercury. Historical figures and their costumes are always appealing to me. I don't know why.

Cool! I'm glad Ignite is making more elaborate armored figures. I'm going to have to pick this up when it comes out.
If your looking for the Greece Hoplite, you can buy one now from the Battle Rhino. I've bought quite a few things from them so they're reliable.
look under the Ignite category specifically under others on the left side of the screen.

I really want to buy this figure, it's just I have to save my money for the SDCC exclusives and such. :bang

Took a look around in what Ignite has to offer, and I'm blown away :eek
The French Knight and the Hoplyte I knew about, but dear lord there's a few tasty figures there, the Centurion looks amazing. Nice nice nice. Not very cheap though...

I only have the first Roman Legionaire figure, (very similar to the Centurion) and it is indeed a great figure. the helmet, Gladius, Pugio, greaves, spear tips, and the center plate of the shield are all made out of metal. the basic body could be a bit better, but it's still very cool.

I've been going stark, raving bonkers trying to get the Greek Hoplite. I finally found one at Good Stuff To Go and just now placed my order there. I was too late for Battle Rhino and Atlantic Toys but did get a hoplon and two thrusting spears from him. I went back and ordered the greaves and sandals loose (they as well as the tunic are all of a later Roman period). The hoplon is not metal which is somewhat disappointing, but it is *VERY* well detailed both inside and out. Just gorgeous!! The spears are nicely done as well with metal spearpoints at both ends.

I hope that one gets released soon :banana
Btw I just noticed 2 versions of the hoplite being promoted here and there:

I think you'll all agree that the blue one's shield looks a lot better, but it seems wise to use caution when ordering because I have yet to see a dealer that offers an option between the two versions...

It is interesting to note that the Greek in the red tunic is armed with the curved bladed kopis like my Cotswold Hoplite while the one in blue has the short leaf-bladed stabbing sword. The hoplon that I bought loose was the one pictured with the blue Hoplite.
Something that they never show pictured is the beautiful detail on the inside of the hoplon. Here 'tis and all:

The surprising thing is how feather light the shield is. It's like a sheet of paper, but very sturdy. Although I would have liked a metal one this one will eliminate most shelf dives.

It's my understanding that the red Hoplite is another figure they will be releasing soon. It's not a variant that ships with the Blue one.
That shield looks fantastic! I'd love to buy one of each. It'll have to wait a month until after my Sideshow orders are done and after I pay for that damn expensive Medicom Vader.

Thanks for the insight and the pic Rabbit 51. You guys are pushing me to get the blue one at least, which I have seen in the shops here.
I think we are rowing the same boat Screamingmetal. It's like we're in a parallel universe. The trouble with Sideshow is, once I get close to clearing the backlog of orders coming in, they show us more stuff I want to order.

Ignite seems to have really done its homework when it comes to the Romans. Notice the upcoming figure with the lorica segmentata: its clearly a private soldier, as opposed to a centurion. Notice the differences: no crest on the helmet, no greaves, sword and dagger worn on opposite sides from the way a centurion would wear them, "sporran" girdle hanging from the belt, even the lorica segmentata itself is something the centurion wouldn't wear. By the same token, the centurions are also accurate for the same reasons. But Ignite just hasn't been able to do a convincing job on the chain mail. The best chain mail so far has been Dragon's molded rubber product.

Oooo, me want the Imperial Legionnaire!!! The armour looks fantastic.
I've hesitated about buying an Ignite figure because they're a tad pricey--but I don't think I'll be able to resist this one.
