I'm curious to know what has been to date your biggest disappointment on a SS figure, and why.
For me it was Mandy (the life of Brian) the clothing was cheap material and the sculpting was so poorly done...

Willow, not even close to the figure that was shown at preorder

It's technically not a figure, but I was pretty disappointed with my Gandalf the Grey. The sculpt weas great but it looked like such a mass-production figure with all the colors slightly off. Didnt expect that.

So many highs and lows. There have been more egregious offenses in sculpting and costuming and I'm sure they will be mentioned. But I really was disappointed in "Q's" briefcase. The first really important gadget in the Bond films and it was so poorly executed by SSC. And the poor quality seemed even more sad when compared to the high quality of similar items available from bbi and Dragon. As I said, not the worst thing ever, but a disappointment none the less.

pg buffy -- i was really looking forward to it -- the iconic image of the character & such -- & the expression was so blank & the rooted hair such a disappointment -- it is the 1 sideshow item i never display. . . :(

The demise of the 24" Pozers line...
The demise of the Little Big Heads line...

I can't really say I was disappointed with any of the 12" Buffy line - I had read too many bad reviews of Faith and Willow to be disappointed when I got them - So I was actually impressed to see that they weren't really as bad as everyone said.
So my biggest disappointment has to be Elessar - I was so looking forward to this one since I gave my Strider away as a gift (aak!) - the eyes on mine are all funky, and the pose is kinda boring. *sigh* maybe Aragorn at the Black Gates will make up for it.

Like federal operator 99, I was sorry to see the various classic monster lines go.
With the announcement that SC would forgo mass-market distribution in favor of selling direct to boutique outlets and via their website, I was hopeful that we would see a more robust 12-inch line, with a greater depth and variety of characters aimed at stalwart monster fans.
It's been a disappointment that hasn't happened but, I'm still hopeful! :)

I've got a few...
British Lewis Gunner- A Huge disappointment, when I got him all his joints were extremely lose, I didn't like the sculpt, the paint was all over the place and when I started to assemble his gear, the a couple main Belt buckles broke. :(
Gwyllm- once I got this one out of the box, his right leg wasn't moving at all, I put a little pressure on it to budge it and the whole leg broke off, when I undressed the figure I noticed the whole right leg hip joint was completely glued in place, there was a huge wad of dried glue at the joint. I waited about four months until I could find a replacement body. :(
Spinal Tap ST. Hubbins- Very Loose body and the hair was glued too high on the head. :(

Gremlin from 'Nightmare at 20,000 ft'.
Only because it is such a goofy looking figure. That's not Sideshows fault though. It is an exact replica, but it is goofy looking, because of its over padded puffy body.

Oh my God - the Gremlin from Twilight Zone is one of the best! I LOVE that figure!
One of the WORST LETDOWNS was the 12" Mummy. Ugh. I'm talking about the skin tight bandages, not the cool sculpt.

X-Files of course! No Lone Gunmen after all this time. No Dr. Bambi, Aliens, Jimmy Bond, Yves Adele Harlow, Samantha Mulder, Alien Bounty Hunter etc.
Bond Girls!
No new original bodies!

Also a piece of his helmet was broken on arrival. :(

KISS Ace Frehley PF; Sideshow definitely cut corners on this one. The messed face paint was messed up , the necklace became part of the sculpt instead of a seperate piece, and it is about 99% polystone; how can that be considered "mixed media"?

The 12" Mummy figure. He looks awesome, great sculpt and colored bandages, but the articulation is hindered greatly. What good is a Mummy figure that can't cross his arms over his chest.
And for the opposite, Jabba turned out even better than I expected.

1/6 scale Anakin Skywalker.
It's the only SSC figure I've had to repaint (the Goth lipstick), and that falling arm was such an irritant. I don't mind futzing with my figures or modifying them a bit, but I had to do way too much to him.

Boba Fett. For those that think PF means Plastic Format, you can have it. Although polystone is a royal pain in the *** with it's very fragile material, it's still better than a $325 real action figure.

For pieces that I bought I'd say Jedi Anakin. He had the arm staying on problems and the paint aps left a lot to be desired....especially the dark lips. I still like him though.
I have not really been let down with any of the SW PF's. I think the Han sculpt could have been better, but I still really like the piece.

I still can't get over SS Luke's crazy water melon head and monkey arm. Don't like his expression either. Best Luke likeness tho.
Han Solo is also a big let down. Likeness is bad and head is huge.

Their 12" figures in general. I remember when i first got into 1/6th scale figures, and my first was sideshows Luke. I thought they were the best 1/6 figures out there and nothing was better. But then I discovered Medicom with its pose ability and Hot Toys with its detail and magnificent outfitting. Then I realized how disappointing the Sideshow figures were. Limited pose ability, out of proportion heads, unnatural looking human bodies....their costuming is good, but Medicom and hot toys are superior.....and that is why sideshows 12" figures are the biggest sideshow disappointment in my book.

That just about sums up my Sideshow experience perfectly.
I only have 3 1/6th scale figs, Obi, Aragorn, and Legolas and 1 PF, The Punisher. So needless to say that SS has not disappointed me, but again I am very very selective when it come to collecting in general so I won't let them disappoint me.

Two things to improve your Ash:
1. Rub isopropyl alcohol on the eyes with a q-tip to remove red paint wash
2. Switch head with Hot Toys NGL body.
Makes the figure look about 90% better overall IMO.

Yes, I'm pretty disillusioned with Sideshow right now.
They are so far up Lucas' (fill in the blank) it's pathetic, so many collectors, etc have been ignored or abandoned for lines they say are "taking a hiatus"...
They are no longer significant players in the sixth scale market IMO and I don't think they care, they make a much higher profit doing PF's. HT and Med have lapped them twice in body design, outfit detailing, etc. If it weren't for SW, I don't think they would be making much sixth scale stuff anymore. And they can't come close to matching Med quality for armored figs, I mean why even try after seeing that Med Jango.
Two years with the LOTR license and 3 12" figs to show for it, pretty lame... 1 year turnaround when HT and Med are six months or less, inconsistent paint apps, proto to prod pieces are like playing russian roullete with your wallet, then they tell you the week they are released.
Okay, rant officially over...

I consider Boba Plastic Fett a figure... Overall, sideshow has done a decent job this past year but need more LOTR figures and PF's. Iron Man comiquette was a highlight and so was Lurtz PF. Overall, I spent less in 06 than 05, which tells you something.

HT absolutely OWNS SS in the 1:6 department right now, and I agree, I don't think SS really cares about that anymore. Sad really. There was a time the potential with SS 1:6 felt like the sky was the limit in terms of licenses, now it's just dead. (In fact, I'm hoping they still continue to make more of the Dead!)
I always thought, "What the hell, maybe they COULD reveal a Tall Man Phantasm doll" this toyfair. Now I know feel it won't be anything beyond SW. Why did so many people fall for the SS April Fools joke about minor/loser SS characters? Because we would totally expect that from them now.
Oh Tall Man! Who will make you for me now?

These are my big three. I own the Mummy, which I also got on the cheap, so the biggest bummer for me is that they sell so CRAZY expensive for something that doesn't move at all. I would have paid around $100 for him just to complete the Universal Monster gang, but he really does suck eggs.
The Luke and and Han figures are two figures that are keeping me from buying any of the SS SW figures. I would like a decent Luke, not one that looks like the Gerber baby. And the Han? I think Dave hit it on the head!

Biggest SS disappointment? Insulting us Buffy fans with a cheap generic looking Buffy PF. The alternate Buffy PF is a complete joke. It is neither episode or promo specific. The clothes don't fit right, the eye brows are bigger than Oscar the Grouch's, and her top is actually her dress from the original cut down. That, and I heard she sports an ES bigger than the original regular Buffy PF, at 850! Yikes!
Aside from that, SideShow, while having a few products with their odd faults here and there, are a pretty good company. Still my favorite! Just fix up that alternate Buffy PF PLEASE!
