I thought I'd start this new thread since a lot of us will be getting our new Endos and so the photos don't get lost in the ever-growing Terminator thread.

I just got mine and it rocks!

I had the same problem with my light-up eyes as Screaminmetal, but I have a really easy fix:

I used one of those tiny eyeglass screwdrivers and wedged it carefully under the contact plate and slightly bent both the upper and lower plates of the battery housing. My batteries now lock in tightly and the eyes work perfect.

As many of us might be having the same problem with this 2nd release I figured this fix should be somewhere people can read it easily.

OK, fist picture, fresh from box, no futzing:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j306/Wor-Gar/HTEndo1.jpg

Boring compared to Maulfan's, I know, but I always like to show what a figure looks like right out of the box.

More to come... and a moving GIF!

I hope others who have already posted in the Terminator thread will add their photos here as well.

I can't compete with those Maulfan photos -- simply awesome!!!

So, as everyone has stated, this IS the figure of the year! Just crazy in its articulation. Every time I pick him up, I find something else that moves.

Did you guys know the shoulder blades flare out too?

I have no idea why that stomach piece kind of moves.

Fingers are fragile as hell. Be very careful.

The real metal tubing :rock

This guy is surprisingly light -- which is good because with all the articulation, I'm afraid he'll take a shelf dive over time as his "settles". If he was heavier, we'd never get him to stand up on his own.

I haven't found a solid footing for him yet -- meaning, he's a little tricky to find a position where he can stand on his own... or at least where I'm comfortable letting go of him. But I'm sure there's a balance point.

All in all, BEST ENDO ON THE MARKET! No doubt. And the slightly dirty, grimey paint apps are great -- much preferred to the clean one I thought I was going to get.

Notes: As many of you know Josh weathered the pants and dyed Kyle's Trenchcoat. Also many of you know FigureMaster Les did the Kyle repaint, and not only that, offered to repaint Kyle and add the Scar gratis after it was suggested by Brother Dekdave. I made the pipe out of tubing and chromed it... the "screwy" pipe bomb is best I could do for now. Hope you Dig the shots...

I was surprised by the shoulders, but it's a cool feature, and the stomach flap actually is to allow some front to back articulation, I was doing it with mine the other night and noticed when I leaned him forward it moved the stomach plate slightly to make room, very cool props to HT for that.

Forgot to ask, Wor-Gar did you get the T2 box as well?

Again, these shots pale by comparison to Maulfan's art shots and Paul's action shots, but here we go. I thought I'd show how bright the eyes are -- here's photos in bright sunlight and the red eyes still glow red hot:

Yep, hoping for the foot draggin' T1 gif sequence too...

WG, if you're having probs with the surface you may want to lay down a blanket or mat or something so he won't slip.

Thanks! Yeah, that one came out with nice lighting. Looks real, except for the giant kitchen in the back.

The other shot next to it actually gives you a good range of lighting where you can see how the Endo can look "dirtier" or "cleaner" depending on the amount of light. I like the bluer tint in the shadows better but in harder light he looks a lot more chromey.

As to the GIF: I have to wait for the light to settle in my kitchen -- the sun is moving fast these days. But yes, I think it will look very old-school with the uneven nature of my GIFs. I'll try for the dragging foot -- that's my favorite Endo.

Last note here: my Endo is quite larger (meaning taller) than I was expecting after Michael's review. He towers over SS Maul and is a bit taller than SS Han Solo, much taller than Sarah Connor but looks about perfect to SS Arnold. And I have mine's legs bent slightly. No scale problem here, for those who worry about that sort of thing.

And next to the Aliens alien, he looks so wicked on your desk -- I just can't take my eyes off him. So much detail.

It's easy. Get a trench, buy HT Reese pants and shirt, find shotgun and shoes and you're good to go after a repaint.

Nothing beats the BD but I like what HT did with the paint apps on the wave 2 reg. They brushed darker detail in the pistons.... don't really know what else they did but I like it's look better, not so clean and chromey.

They have clearly added darker detail on the pistons, and all over really. Lots of darker spots which work nicely. That's why I'm so curious to see a photo from someone who has both versions...

I'd love to see a photo of all 3: Wave 1, BD and Wave 2.

I like that wave 2 seems to be a best of both versions in wave 1; weathering to age it like the BD, but a perfect condition body like the wave 1 regular. I'm happy with that mix. I wanted less brand new like the BD, but I didn't want the damage on it, this is a great solution.

I agree, in principle, but I'll hold my final opinion until I see some side by side pictures of all three variations.

That said, I'm very happy with my version, and extremely happy that HT went the extra distance to accomodate this change and make a great figure even better... completely on their own. That's dedication, and love.

If only "other" companies *cough* would do that instead of waiting for collector backlash to correct errors and inaccuracies it would be helpful.

HT Improves their stuff internally, on their own under the watchful eye of HC and yes they obviously pay attention to detail and quality. And this improvement was for an otherwise amazing, near perfect fig in the first place, they are clearly most concerned with quality, not profit ahead of quality and quality takes care of profit.

Hear that.

So true.

I mean, adding cage lights to the PL without any price change? That's awesome. They could have let it go, then 3 months later announced another version with cage lights...like most companies would have done.

HT is the best sixth scale Toy Company in the world, they are now lapping Sideshow for the third or fourth time while SSC is still huffing and puffing to keep up with the middle of the pack. I'm talking 6th scale here.

HT is great, but in some cases, I wish they'd skimp a little to bring prices down and make their figures a bit more affordable. I also want to see them change their wrist connector on human figures, it's too fragile and their muscular bodies of late are turning out fragile in this department.

Say what? HT price points are very reasonable, it's just that they don't sell from their site like Sideshow, they are wholesale manufacturers, which is too bad because most of their figs are priced around 79 to dealers, then dealers mark up the figs to less affordable retail prices and that's all we see. I bought my series 1 Marines for around $75 each so I consider that reasonable. I bet the new Rambo FB V2 is only about 69 wholesale or less. That's SSC price point and what I like about SSC, they keep their prices affordable by selling direct to market. I wish HT did that too.

I bet the wholesale price for the PL is about 179 before the greedy retailers rape everyone. I know it's not that far off because I'm getting mine for around 210 from Adam.

Lots of movement there WG... like it may have been a bit slippery posing a hard plastic fig on tile. You may want to try a mat or something so you can be more daring with poses without worrying about him wiping out. Thanks bro!

It's not so much the tile as it is that I can't really pose him on one foot -- you know, to take a real step. So I'm stuck with the Endo 'shuffle' :lol

I may have to make the GIF without showing his feet to create the illusion that he's walking.

Well I'm just looking at Alien Warriors and Jack Sparrow's that cost $120, Rambo's that cost $100, and they're worth it, but it's very limiting on what I can manage to buy from them where if everything cost $70-$80 range I'd buy much more of their stuff, that's all.

Yeah i really love their jack sparrow but i can't put down a 150 for it, especially not after i just put down 115 for the endo and 130 for the alien.

Nice to know that the Aoshima is in scale to the HT. I would have thought the Aoshima would be smaller.

Thanks on the GIF!

No, my Endo eyes are red as red can be. Absolutely no yellow in the eyes, just in the pics. I don't know why they come out looking Sithy in my photography. I do kind of like them with the yellow though -- makes the Endo look like there's a fire burning deep within.

Maybe Maulfan would know why it turns yellow in the pics.

My guess would be that the bulb(s) are white or yellow, and just lit behind red, clear plastic, and if you catch it in the right light, the bulb color shows through, similar to the glow on the Sidous Mechno Chairs showing the color mix of the paint around the bulb on each person's chair.

Yes, but with the chair, I also see that color with my naked eye.

The Endo eyes are simple red to my eyes... but in my GIFs and all my photos the eyes have a center of yellow. Odd.

Perhaps it's just the high-powered red that's so intense it actually bounces back to create the illusion in the photos. Like that anti-red-eye function on your camera.

That's really surprising. I don't know why I thought the Aoshima was smaller. That was part of the reason I held off buying one long ago. The real metal aspect to it was soooooooo tempting though.

Given that the HT one is a generous size, the Aoshima must be a real monster.

I'm still planning to finish my Aliens gif piece, but it's a bit ambitious so I want to take my time. It was a struggle to compose shots to get the jaw opening to shoot out the inner jaw, I definitely respect your patience to do these gif's sure ain't easy, and unlike old stop motion, some of these figure joints don't resist much so when you want to move a little it moves a lot and can throw ya off. Keep up the good work. As for the eye lights, who knows what's going on to get the yellow, but as long as you're happy with your figure that's what counts. As you can see in my images, I had variations of how bright they showed through with my flash, but consistently red.

On tip, looking at your other gif, if you slow it down, that should help capture the effect.

Basically, you want to have the one leg on an angle backward with foot just pulling and sort of swing the arms almost like he's trying to swim through air to pull his dragging leg forward.

It's silly I know, but when I take my photographs, I try to put myself into the character and the situations, I think it helps to best represent the characters, so when planning out the Endo walk, imagine yourself with a big weight tied to your ankle and how you would walk to try and keep moving forward inspite of it.

I actually did - limped around my living room to see how my arms swung. :lol

But, this stop-motion stuff is really hard and, like you said, getting the joints to bend just the right amount -- every time -- is tricky.

When I do stop motion animation I usually shoot at 12 frames per second which is a good compromise between smooth animation and spending a along time animating. By nature though animation is pretty tedious work and is not for the impatient lol

One thing thats kind of fun about your animation is that the variations in light make it look like an old timey movie. You should do all sepia tones and have him dancing with a top hat and cane or something... that'd be hilarious :lol

Maybe even add a few captions, you could produce a whole silent film :rock

I think the lighting flickers are actually my own shadow as I moved back each time to press the camera button and settled in a slightly different place each time.

It is like one of those old penny arcade things from the 1900s. Must be when the Terminator was sent back to kill Sarah Connor's great grandfather. :)

I'd like to find an ideal pose for my Endo. Anyone have any suggestions -- what is a classic pose for an Endo anyway, beside the weapon he holds in his hand?

I like the 'gimp' version in T1, but it doesn't look right unless it's moving.

This one is iconic for me, I based it off the first shot of an Endo in T2 when they pan up from the foot crushing the skull and see the future war open up, that image is burnt into memory for T2, which is why I made sure to capture it in my first photo session.

Almost there, a bit more tedious than I thought. I'm only using a few Endo images to accomplish this, BUT, I'm putting them in front of a single background made in Photoshop, so I have to cut the background out of each image to get it to just the Endo; when you get to the tube areas of the chest, there's a lot of little holes to clear out lol. I'm just about done this, once this over, the worst part, should be down hill.

I tried the limping; I actually took a few frames from T1 to base my shots on, but I went the impatient route and tried to do it in less frames so some of the motion to indicate the limp is lost. Actually, you follow the limp partly because of the sound FX and the other part is that the leg is basically always in shadow where the moving leg catches light each time it extends outward. I may try again if I'm feeling really ambitious enough to take the time to do enough frames. As for the lightup eyes, they were on, but in the particular flash I used, and at the smaller scale in the animation, they glow gets lost.

The only trouble i find is him holding the plasma cannon gatlin gun dealio, its just not great for him. His hand can't grip the main handle strong enough to hold it up too well, i can manage it but it still cumbersome. I love all the details though, the hands are crazy... he's all kinds of spindly so i worry about him being fragile but he's still really poseable if your careful.

Ya, that's what I'm thinking now. I guess it all comes down to lighting. Some of the wave 1 shots I tracked down when mine came all looked super chromed and shiny, so I had thought that was how it came out, but in similar lighting to our shots, ya, wave 1 and 2 look the same, but for sure they differ in the T1 and T2 box scheme.

I don't have any wave 1 shots, but maybe it was the proto that really was clean... and then HT "dirtied" it up a bit before prod went out.

This is an old shot of edwint's that pjam linked in the Terminator thread, looking at the pics again, looks like how new it looks varies with light, I'll have to experiment with my own, even if there is no paint variation, at the bottom line, the one I own has the right look for me and that's what counts most, just certainly surprised me to not get something all nice and polished like some images led me to believe in way back.

Well, it seemed that the finish on wave 2 was more gun metal like, but that's in question at the moment with no conclusive proof, we're questioning if it's true or just the quality of photos posted now. There's no way to no for sure I guess other than to have both figures in hand and side by side.

Wor-Gar
09-15-2007, 11:27 AM
Maulfan, that looks like ours I think. Dark areas around the pistons and all.

Nash: the question we all had was that some of the 1st proto pics had the endo looking very clean and very silvery chrome. What we're calling Wave 2 is the ones that shipped recently that we all thought looked darker -- not gun metal so much as it just looked more "dirty", closer to the battle damaged one.

But it's looking like the clean chrome endo was only in the proto pics that circulated. Maybe HT fixed the endo before the initial wave 1.

Here's early proto:

Ya, I can't tell for sure anymore if there is true difference or not, bottom line I'm happy with what I got which is what counts. THat's not what we've been discussing; we were discussing differences between overall figure finish between waves 1 and 2. As for differences between head and body, at least on my wave 2 figure, the head is slightly more metallic looking than the body which has a softer appearance to it.

Also, Wave 2 has a stand that says Terminator 2 Judgment Day, Wave 1 just says Terminator. It has to do with Sideshow only having the license to distribute product for T2 in the US and Hot Toys only having the license for the first Terminator. Basically, Sideshow subcontracted HT to make them T2 Endos.

In fact, the T2 Endo is the only Hot Toys product that says Sideshow Collectibles on the package with SSC contact info.

I didn't even look at the packaging that closely, interesting. Makes sense now why Sideshow Got theirs so much later than the rest of the world, having to get their own custom packaging made up. So the T2 Endo is basically a Sideshow Exclusive.

Here's the final list.

T1 Packaging - Regular Endo
T1 Packaging - Battle Damaged Endo
T2 Pacakging - Regular Endo

Both regulars are painted the same, the only difference is that Sideshow doesn't have rights to the T1 license, however, I'm guessing in their work on a new body together, the worked with HT to have a T2 Endo produced that would fall within Sideshow's T2 license and allow them to distribute the piece. So the only variant in the regulars is the box.

Hot Toys have played a blinder with this figure and I can't really add anything to what other people have said about it , yes it's fragile( but nothing to be wary of as long as you're careful) , yes , EVERY piston and hydraulic type doo-dahd works , the light up function works great , the weapons look very cool ( my T1 bash already has dibs on the laser-sight handgun) and the joints are all nice and firm , but not overly so . O.k , I would have liked to see a nice shiny chrome finish , but I understand why they went with the more gun-metal , weathered look . ( I imagine vac-metalising the figure would have caused all sorts of production problems and the scale issues involved in shiny surfaces are a subject into itself!). It's also a pain to get the hands to hold the weapons , but this is a small price to pay for fingers which each have 3 (or 4) joints each ! ( I must mention at this point the wrist joints , which are a work of engineering genius). All in all , no one who calls themselves a fan of the Terminator movies can afford to be without this figure . It's a work of art . Buy one now . That's an order .:D

Congratulations on getting your HT Endo. Killer pics too, it really looks very impressive. I remember buying the small movie maniacs version years ago and being impressed by the functioning pistons etc so I think Id be absolutely blown away by the features of the HT Endo. The glowing eyes in particular is a great little addition.

The Endoskeleton design really was light years ahead of its time and still holds up today. If I imagine a robot that was designed in the 80's I think of cheesy blinking lights and glittered panels like something out of Buck Rogers lol

As a huge Terminator fan myself I am desperate to get this figure but disposable income is a bit short at the moment so I have a while yet to wait :( Are these figures gonna become difficult to get hold of in the future?

thundergod
09-24-2007, 11:23 AM
Depends on your idea of "difficult to get hold of ". Mine was from Sideshow , so it was on pre-order . Here in the U.K , H.T stuff seems to be getting easier to obtain lately . The chain "Modelzone" has started to stock quite a few figures and some of the older figures have been turning up . ( I spotted a Scar Predator just 2 weeks ago and these are now supposed to be near impossible to get your mitts on !) Unfortunately , you tend to pay top whack , £139.99 for a Predator , £99.99 an Alien Warrior . Amazon and Play.com usually are pretty good as well but similar prices are to be expected . This is why I rely on the ol' credit card and pre-order the majority of my stuff . I think you'll probably have little problem getting hold, but you'll just have to live with paying that bit more moolah !

I hear you on that one. Hot Toys prices are frankly ridiculous here in the UK. Figures are priced dollar for pound and much more in some cases but neither does it pay off to import what with shipping costs and the risk of customs charges.

thundergod
09-24-2007, 01:03 PM
Well, I end up paying around £90 for a Predator ( inc shipping and tax ), which isn't too bad . It's the tax which really sticks in my throat, but what are you to do ? At the end of the day it's a bloody expensive hobby! The upside is I've never yet been dissappointed with a Hot Toys product , so there is that I suppose!

Stendec
09-24-2007, 01:58 PM
£90 is like a good deal for a Predator. Yeah even in the UK bargains are out there. I paid £85 for my Hicks with shipping from mainland Europe but I was lucky not to get tagged by customs so I got a pretty good deal on it.

Also like you said, the figures are awesome and the enjoyment they give far outweighs the cost. This is an expensive hobby though, which is the reason I only have a collection of two figures and its likely to remain that way for a while :( lol

The Endo finnaly arrived in Europe. I got mine yesterday, and must say, it's a hell of a 12" figure. I was a bit surprised that it weighed so little. Very light, very fragile. Very detailed, very cool. It would have been a tat cooler, if they would have pulled off a chrome finish on this one. Still, it's awesome.
It's got so many moving, twisting, rotating parts, it's unbelievable. That is one figure I think $120 is not to much.
Like some have said earlier, this clearly is a separate batch, since it carries "Sideshowcollectibles" on the packaging. I belive that the battle damaged Endo Sideshow is about to offer (HOPEFULLY TONIGHT, newsletter! - unless it is very limited, because everyone deserves a fair shot at this) will also be a fresh batch, completely loose of the limited Blister Endo that is around. Pity. I love extremely limited items. Looks like this battle damaged Endo will not be one of them. Still a cool figure that I will be ordering!
I originally had 2 Endos on order, now that I know Sideshow will offer the battle damaged variant, I'm SOOOO happy I cancelled one of the normal ones. Limited funds and all... you know. I'll spend that money on the battle damaged version. And unless the BD version is more limited than the original, I see no reason for it to be more expensive that the original! Stop the milking Sideshow!! You already get half of my wage! :D

I've had my Endo for just over a week , but tonight has been the first time I've been able to actually spend any time playing.., er.. I mean experimenting with the figures articulation . And it must be said , with this figure , Hot Toys "Movie Masterpieces" have truly lived up to the name . Although first impressions are of an item which is fragile , this is mis-leading as the figure is beautifully constructed and engineered . The poseability of the figure is stunning and all of the "character's" signature poses are attainable . I know I'm preaching to the converted here , but it's just sinking in just how good this figure is! I've built various Endo kits over the years , from Halcyons great (but small) 1/9 version , through to Horizons and Tsukudas strangely proportioned offerings , but none come anywhere close to this Baby . Anyone in two minds about shelling out for one of these should seriously consider their options . If they want a damn near perfect representation of the Endoskeleton in 1/6 they will never , repeat NEVER find a better alternative . Mine cost me over £90 ($180) in total and I've just ordered another (B.D Version), what does that tell you? Seriously , this might well be the best 1/6 figure ever produced . :D

Got my endo today and have to say its great but

whats with the general fragileness of fingers in fact the whole thing seems fragile - its stunning to look at but for the love of god you dont dare touch it for the fear of breaking it

and the light up eyes you need to wedge things into the battery holder to get them to light up

Im happy I got it but like the HT toys Ive had previously

AVP Scar
ALIENS Vasquez

They are so fiddly and delicate there just not a thing you can "play with" / (*cough) pose in multiple poses not if you want endo holding anything anyway (those delicate fingers)

He certainly seems fragile, but as long as you treat with respect I believe you'll find it's tougher than you think. But you shouldn't be having problems with the light up eyes function. I'd be tempted to remove the battery compartment and reinsert the batteries, as with mine you just push the button once to illuminate and they stay on till you push the button again.

Hm, i've heard quite the opposite. Even though he "looks" and may feel fragile, Hot Toys products are close to if not the most durable 1/6 on the market. According to P!tu, one of his buddies stepped on his Endo and didn't even damage it at all.

Exactly , these things aren't G.I Joes , but there is no need to treat them with kid gloves . Handle the Endo carefully ( that is , sensibly) and you should have no problems .( Although I wouldn't advise standing on it) .Agree also about the batteries , mine were dodgy until I removed and replaced them . Now it works perfectly.:D

I had the same problem with my light-up eyes ...but I have a really easy fix...

I used one of those tiny eyeglass screwdrivers and wedged it carefully under the contact plate and slightly bent both the upper and lower plates of the battery housing. My batteries now lock in tightly and the eyes work perfect.
I just got my BD Endo today, opened him up and my eyes didn't light up either! Came to this thread hoping to find a fix for the battery housing and BAM!! Find it on the first page!! Thanks Wor-Gar!! :rock

You guys realise there's a piece of small clear plastic separating the batteries, don't you? It's to stop the lights from working in case they are accidentally turned on in transit.

Yeah, Creech, we figured that part out. :D

The battery housing is just a tad bit too big and doesn't hold the batteries snug-ly enough, thus needing Wor-Gar's suggested fix.

The Iraq is just one thing, this country spends it's money so poorly it almost makes you want to puke. Granted, I piss away thousands on collectibles, but I enjoy them all and get money's worth, but the U.S. government spent billions on trailer homes for Katrina relief, on top of $35,000 a month or year, either way, to rent an old airport to hold these homes, and then months after Katrina, they were still there. Nope, first I ever knew of NECA was their Stay Puft Marshmellow Man, which I happily own, then the Pirates line, missed on their earlier stuff. Unless they were different back in the day, NECA is limited articulation like McFarlane, looks nice, but that limits your options.

I have the NECA 18 inch figure. For the price and mass production quality, it really is a fantastic figure. The articulation isn't as extensive as HT and I'm using wacky-tack to keep it standing, but it was worth the $40 I paid. And it's good enough that I have no interest in upgrading to the HT Endo.

As for how realistic it can look, here are some Photoshop pics I made using the NECA Endo.

Just another name for that putty-like adhesive you can find in the hardware department at Wal-Mart. It holds things in place pretty good, and it's non-destructive on most surfaces.

Here's an example--although I do get mine at Wal-Mart and it's yellow instead of blue.

I put a small ball of it underneath each foot and then pressed the feet down onto the shelf for 30 seconds or so. Then, as long you make sure the Endo is evenly balanced (standing up straight), it should stay upright indefinitely.

Depends on the figure, sometimes it's nice, like both of their Michale Myers figures, the neck and arm articulation gives some options, but then figures like AWE Jack Sparrow, it doesn't do much at all like you said.

It looks just as high as the other Terminators, so 12".............VERY flimsy though. You almost wonder what the hell you just spent $150 on. :lol well $150 for 2.

Still this is the MOST detailed figure I own.

And man, that is a good shot I took :monkey5

I got a good deal; I saw the prices on ebay and they are pretty expensive right now :horror Not HT Celtic Predator expensive, but still...

And to think there was a time when Cornerstore had it a U$S 115... :monkey4 Now that I have mine and I see how amazing it is, I wish I could go back in time and buy 2 more of these bad boys to get that "army effect"... :banana

At that price I would think it's the Neca one, and it being 18in, but it says motion activated eyes, where the Neca is push button. It says original paint. What does that mean exactly? Who is the manufacturer? Why would there be paperwork for a low cost item? Can't see much in that tiny picture.

I'd be asking questions before doing any bidding.

I wouldn't say that. I got one recently I was actually pretty impressed with it. The face is a little off, but I actually think it compares favorably with the Hot Toys version (at least if you consider that I only paid $35 for the NECA one brand new). Its size is impressive.

I think that is the 18" NECA Endoskeleton which is ok but no near the HT Endos. I used to have one but it didn't come with a stand and I couldn't pose it at all. The little details are not as accurate as on the HT versions. My little cousin saw it and I gave it to him. Then I decided to get the HT Endos. Here is the NECA one I had before giving it to my cousin:

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1456/necaterminator02vk2.jpg

Here are the Hot Toys Endos, smaller than NECA but much better, in fact I think the HT Endos are the best 1/6 figures ever.

you may have seen mine. the piece was chrome painted (not by me)

I then added the neck pistons and wire collar bone, drilled a hole through his leg to support him on the base, and custom made the base from scratch. It's the only endo I need now.

i found mine at a model kit convention.

this site has one, but it may be a bit expensive unless you are going to create a mold of it to replicate it:

Any recommended brand/kind of paint or any tips for repaint?
