Some of you may have gotten a PM from me about your sig size. These are getting out of hand again and we need to get a handle on them. This isn't an arbitrary rule - threads with huge sigs take forever to load and can be extremely annoying, especially to our friends on dial-up. The FAQ states that sigs should be no larger than 500 x 150 pixels (I may have stated a smaller size in some PMs - sorry about that.)

Oddly, I was trying to post a new one for myself yesterday, and now matter what I do to it, I can't seem to get it small enough. I keep getting a message that it's too big.

Usually I have the exact opposite problem...:o

Hey Dave, just for clarification, is the size based on square pixels (150 x 500 = total of 75000 square pixels) or dimensions? That is, if dimensions, then a sig couldn't be longer than 500 pixels or taller than 150 pixels, even if one side was shorter than the maximum? Or if square pixels, then someone could have a 100 x 650 (65000 square pixels) sig, but still be under the maximum 75000 square pixels? Not trying to make things worse, I just think we need to clarify a little as there are still some very wide sigs out there...

I don't think we need to be too exact - if it's annoying, such as having a graphic that's the full size and then a large font line underneath - then it should be changed.

But if someone has one that's 600x100 - I don't think it's too much of a problem.

At the risk of bringing down the wrath of some members of the forum, I think it might also be a good idea to limit the file sizes on sigs. Like everyone else, I think animated images are much cooler, but I've started noticing some that are exceeding not just 1 MB, but 2 MB. I'm on a fairly fast broadband connection, so it isn't much of an issue for me, but for people who are on slower connections those things can be forum killers.

It is smaller... it just may be cached on your computer... refresh the page and if that doesn't work, press ALT and refresh at the same time. Thanks for reducing it. :D
