when i noticed the new imac computer announced a few weeks ago my immediate reaction was that i had to try it... so i did. i went down to the Apple store and there it was.
imagine if Sideshow made their product available upon announcement (we would still have the anticipation of getting our orders in, but we wouldn't have to wait a year to get our hands on it) wouldn't this business model benefit them and us?

Not really... people will order items they know they have time to save for or even cancel if need be, but if everything was available when announced, I have a strong feeling a lot of people would not get items they would otherwise pre-order; at least I know I wouldn't.

interesting... so you are saying that you would rather order an item and wait months to receive it rather than to order it and have it ship immediately?

I for one love the pre order nature of Sideshow. No way in hell I could have the collection I have if I had to pay on the spot with everything. I need time to save up for things, so I have no prob with the pre order system.
By the time I saved up for stuff it would probably be sold out, and that would suck.

It wouldn't benefit Sideshow or they would be doing it. They'd have to quadruple their warehouse just to be able to store the stuff. Not economical really. As others have said, it's nice to know what's coming to organise your finances.
The computer business is a different animal. People expect to be able to purchase commodities on demand. Like, you're not going to save up in anticipation of the new Sunbeam kettle are you. People buy what they need when they need it. Collectibles are purchased, more on a wants basis.

yep the storage issue is the main problem. the limited edition size is another. they aren't producing a limited edition on a mac product so you know it'll be around and you can save for it unlike the situation if sideshow announced and immediately shipped. i would like the turn around time to be quicker on SS stuff but then that just means they would hold off announcing it rather than producing it faster.
