Two Sideshow reviews in a row - that's kind of unusual, but that's what hit my doorstep earlier this week. Things are going to really start hitting next week though, and I think July is going to be a huge month all around.

Tonight's review covers the Sideshow exclusive version of John Doggett. You remember Doggett - he took over for Mulder in the last season of the X-Files. This is another excellent figure by Sideshow, and a great rebound from the disappointing Frank Black. They've stopped the rotocast heads, and it really shows.

You can find the review at the usual:

I'll be wrapping up the big anniversary giveaway next week, so now's the time to get your entry in. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

Good review as ever.

It might be the camera angles but, compared to the source photo on the box, Doggett seems a little lacking in the neck dept?

Must disagree with you over Sideshow's body - for me it's one of the worst of the ultra-poseable 12" out there. I find the wrist joints ugly, the neck articulation is often horribly limited (I'm sick and tired of Sideshow figures who are unable to look downwards - there's so much character in a simple tilt of a head) and the whole body just looks wrong somehow. Ever since day one something has bugged me about it but I've never been able to put my finger on it. Now, BBI's 3.5 bod for me is far more asthetically pleasing, poseable... and free of the loose joints that often plague Sideshow.

Still, it's better than Majestic's ;)

Otherwise, darned fine review... and good to see Sideshow on the upward slope with their 12" figures again.

Nah, I love the wrist joints. More range of movement than any others.

I do wish they'd give us the neck articulation on every figure though. That's a big issue, and why he didn't get four stars in that category.

As to his neck - it's nothing to do with the camera angle. With the shirt and tie on, he doesn't have much neck. Such is life I suppose...I couldn't get it to ride down any further, but you might have better luck.

I think the neck articulation is sacrificed to preserve the sculpt. I think there are a lot of characters where the neck area isn't that important and could be done like the women's, but on the monsters or CSM I don't think it would look right to have a joint under the chin.

Ah, not asking for a joint under the chin (even with that I've found the female heads can still have trouble looking down - had to pop the heads off and 'edit' the hole with a craft knife for Buff, Willow and Hellboy) - it's just something in the engineering of the male Sideshow neck joint is wonky; I have had one or two figures who have been able to look downwards but most haven't.

Most of my Sideshow blokes get transfered over on the pre-3.0 BBI body; the heads glue onto that neck stub section perfectly, it affords them a full range of movement... and the joint is no more noticeable than on the original Sideshow.

Plus, thanks to Justice Fighters I've scored a few nude Dylan Hunt BBI's - very handy as he's just a bit taller than the standard BBI so I can add a little bit of scale where necessary :)

good review.....thanks.:peace

the figure looks really bad.......especialy with his coat off. the suit looks way too tight, he has no neck, and the shirt and tie look bad.

the sculpt and paintjob look bad too. the face seems too full. i've got a custom sculpt of robert patrick that's better than this one.:ted
