So after many delays and frustrations we have a winner!

Congratulations to Gruson whose story of Van Helsing taking on The Invisible Man and Creature From the Black Lagoon was , in the judges' opinions, true to the spirit of the first film and an interesting re-imagining of traditional Universal monsters.

There were a lot of interesting entries pitting Van Helsing against foes ranging from the Mummy and Dr. Caligari to Alien.

SPOILERS if you haven't seen the film!

Some entrants (including our winner) forgot that Anna died and went to heaven with her family at the end of the first film, but we didn't hold that against them as a few people did this.

Follow the link below to read the winning entry. If other entrants wish to post their stories, please feel free to do so in this thread.

Thanks for playing!

Congrats Gruson. Nice spin with the Phasing!

Here's mine for those who might be interested.....

Opening:

Van Helsing in Africa to meet Dr. Livingstone on assignment by the Knights of the Holy Order to capture a mysterious creature sighted near a deep lagoon. Van Helsing arrives on a skiff with 2 Very apprehensive porters.

Van Helsing and Livingstone exchange banter upon meeting, they have some history. They reluctantly pool their skills and knowledge to track the creature. Livingstone has a prototype sonar and dive suit.

They find the creature and track it to an underwater cave for a confrontation. The mission is a failure however as the creature has a captive woman and the priority changes from capture to rescue. The creature escapes, Van Helsing rescues the woman, and Livingstone is lost, thought
perhaps dead.

Main Plot:

The Woman is an Egyptian of Noble stature who was abducted from the deck of a ship moored in a bay on the coast. She reveals some information about her "mission" which involves another secret society trying to resurrect an
ancient Evil Alchemist.

Her mentor has sent her to retrieve an old text containing instructions on how to control this evil. He is actually working with the secret society to resurrect the mummy. Van Helsing and the lady turn over the book/scroll to the mentor not knowing he is behind the whole thing although that is soon revealed.

The Mummy is raised and Van Helsing has to figure a way to defeat it with the help of the Lady he rescued and craziness ensues. Upon defeat of the Mummy and the scattering of the Secret Society Van Helsing returns to London with the Lady.

Ending:

Van Helsing and Lady at the Opera with a shot of a sinister looking masked/caped man staring down on the theatre from above. Fade out.....

I knew she died but I wanted her in my sequel. :)

Wow, I cannot believe I won! I wrote that in 10 minutes one day because I was bored at work. I always have had an imagination. ;)

Awesome.

Thank you for the 1/4 figure. It will fit in great with my collection. :yay

Great stuff, Gruson. You definitely deserved to win.

Since it was mentioned, I figured that I would add my attempt onto the thread to see what people thought.

Van Helsing and the Alien Egg
by: Chris Delloiacono

The 20th century has dawned. We begin with Gabriel Van Helsing and Carl (who still isn't a monk), arriving in a small Pennsylvania town to investigate reports of the dead rising. The town is already overrun by a swarm of the undead. The pair, well, mostly Van Helsing, with ingenuity, and numerous head shots, defeats the zombies.

Afterwards, the Vatican requests they examine a meteor crash in the New Mexico territory. What Van Helsing and Carl find isn’t a meteor, but an alien vessel. The pilot is dead, but an Alien egg is aboard. Yes, the Alien. Van Helsing reports the discovery. After a night of drinking, Carl returns to the ship. Unfortunately, he is impregnated by a chestburster.

The Vatican expert on alien life forms, Delta Chaste, arrives later that day. Delta knows what they’re facing, and wants to kill Carl. Delta and Van Helsing come to blows. During their melee, Carl dies when an Alien Queen bursts from his chest. Reluctantly, at first, the pair work together to destroy the rapidly-growing creature, and romance soon blossoms. They have no success during several altercations across the American Southwest. Finally, their battle ends at the La Brea Tar Pits. Delta uses Van Helsing as bait to lure the creature close enough to unleash an early flamethrower forcing the creature into the tar.

Van Helsing and Delta are reassigned to America to work out of the Western Branch of the Vatican. Here they will continue their fight, together.

We jump to modern day California. Two children walk on the shoreline of Santa Monica beach. A rockslide has opened a new cavern. Inside, they discover Alien eggs that have lain dormant for more-than 100 hundred years. The story closes with a facehugger leaping towards frame.

Great Job Gruson, Congrats!! :dance :banana :ted :toast

I always wondered how/where Frankenstein's Monster would end up. So.....

Here is my meager attempt for anyone interested:

Adrift. Wave after wave slapping the raft around in an endless ocean. He knew not how long he had been on this tiny raft. Weeks on end………maybe months.

The Monster knew he could survive anything. He had been given two lives after all. And Van Helsing had actually given him his third life when Gabriel defied the Order’s mandate to “eliminate” him and chose to set him free. He said he was my friend.

Then, he saw it. Perhaps it was just a mirage. But no, it actually was a white land. Desert most likely. The closer he drifted, the more he became aware that this land was very flat. Devoid of any remarkable features such as mountains.

“Just my Luck”, he thought, “to wash up on a beach where it’s hot as Hell.”

Coming ashore, the Monster began walking; stumbling at first until his legs regained their strength. There was no shade to be found. He would surely perish, but for the fact that night was quickly approaching. No people, either. This was good.

“People always end up hurting me and me them as well” he remembered.

Just as the Sun began to rise, large shapes came into view. Pyramidal shaped objects as well as a beast he hadn’t seen before.

“What God created a being with the head of a man and the body of a lion, he mused. It’s as much a monstrosity as I am! Maybe I can be accepted for who I am here,” he hoped.

Upon reaching the “Lionman”, the Monster noticed a stone out of alignment with the rest of the wall. He pushed it back into the wall and suddenly a portal appeared. It was very dark, but cool, and smelled of air long since trapped inside. He descended a step at a time, going ever deeper into the structure. The air was now reeking of a musty ancient smell. It reminded him of being buried underground. But at least he was safe from the Sun down here.

Awhile later, he reached the end of the stairs. Now before him was a chamber. He could sense how huge it was even if he couldn’t see it altogether. He stumbled forward until he came upon a large table like object. As he felt around it, he pictured it to be much like a funeral coffin, but with an end where the head would lie.

He thought, “If I could just get this lid off, I could lie down inside and finally get some rest. But there are some strange carvings here, I wonder what they mean?”

The Monster began pushing harder and harder until at last top moved. Ever so slowly, the heavy top slid over the box until it crashed to the floor with a thunderous sound. As he felt inside the box, his hand grasped a body!

“So this IS a coffin. Why would anyone go to all this trouble just to bury a body?” he wondered.

He was so exhausted, now. He lay down on top of the corpse thankful for the extra padding that the fabric wrapping the body provided his weary bones. There was ample room after all and furthermore, he had no fear of the dead. He had been that way once, he thought, as he began to succumb to a very welcome respite from his long journey. And there the Monster slept.

Time passed and dreams came and went, but one recurring dream had him fleeing from villagers carrying fire. He ran but could not escape. There were too many. Why were they screaming at him? He didn’t mean to kill that child. She was as the loveliest flower growing in a spring meadow. He could never hurt her………but he did. He could feel the fire. It was moving all around him. It felt like fingers pushing at his back, trying to penetrate his body.

He awoke in horror! It was the corpse he was sleeping on….it was Alive!!

He jumped out of the coffin and looked back within to see a dim shape stirring, moaning a sound that shook his soul. The cry of the undead. He backed up in disbelief and continued backing up until he reached the stairs. Suddenly, he saw the corpse sit up and turn in his direction. The Monster quickly made his way back up the stairs until he reached the stone door, gasping for a breath of fresh air.

“What have I done, he cried. What have I set loose upon this world???”

At least it was night time. He would have no trouble making his way to another refuge. And so he walked once more. Hours on end until he came at last to trees and tents in the distance. The Sun was making ready its rise.

“There must be water nearby. I am so thirsty. But there are people near, too. I must be careful”, he considered.

And thus begins the continuing Van Helsing saga.

Frankenstein’s Monster meets a band of nomads that accept him as he is. His strength is an asset to the tribe. And of course he loves the tribe’s children most of all. Too much in fact, as history repeats itself, and he accidentally kills a child once again.

He flees, but he is not easy to track in the desert even for the Bedouins. They give chase.

Meanwhile, the corpse that the Monster freed is none other than the Mummy! He makes his way to Cairo and goes on a rampage seeking the one who disturbed his sleep as well as his beloved Queen who just so happens to be the current leader’s daughter.

Talk spreads and soon the Church’s Secret Order has picked up on rumors of a sighting of Frankenstein’s Monster as well as an unholy dead who has been brought back to life and is terrorizing Cairo.

A desperate message is sent to Gabriel Van Helsing. He must come at once to the Vatican on urgent Church Business. Van Helsing hooks up with Karl once more and sails for Egypt whereupon their adventure continues.

Only Van Helsing can catch Frankenstein’s Monster and after a lengthy dialogue, they join forces to defeat the Mummy and prevent the capture of the leader’s daughter. Of course, Gabriel develops a deep fondness for her, knowing full well he can never have her. But just maybe, she has the key that will lift his curse and everything will end happily this time. Maybe even Anna would smile down on him.

Thanks for all the Fun Dave! :bow :bow :toast
