Started a separate thread since i didn't see one on ps3.(PS3 vs 360 thread has too much fanboy crap in it for me so can we keep the my console is better than your console **** in the other thread please?)

Anyways haven't played in a while and just got online and DL Ninja gaiden sigma demo,HOLY BALLS that game is fun(and bloody)A must buy for me.I remember the old ninja gaiden from the sega so it's cool to see it again.Lots of good games coming this year see ya around!

i completed it for the original xbox...one hard as heck game. i'm sure it looks incredible on the ps3 because it looked great even on the xbox. one frustratingly hard game though.

I might end up getting a PS3 in the future, but right now it's too expensive. But I'd expect the price will be down by the time I can buy it.

I just read an article that said Sony is considering dropping the price by $100 possibly by the end of the year in order to make up some of the ground lost to Nintendo. That still means a $700 price tag, tho. They may phase out the 20 gig version, as sales apparently haven't been meeting expectations. And cutting costs will probably mean cutting some of the features of current model PS3s. Apparently this strategy is doing well in Europe. Can anyone verify that?

As much as I want the next gen hardware, there just aren't enough great games available for it yet. GTA IV is supposed to be released this Fall... that might be reason enough, but it depends on the game. I've been a Metal Gear freak since PS1, so that could be the clincher for me if it meets my expectations. I expect there will be a ton of great games out by this time next year, just like with PS2, so I don't mind waiting till things heat up more. :D

They've already discontinued the 20GB version, so right now it's just the 60GB one. And it's expected that there'll be an 80GB version coming out soon.

they only have the 60gb version now. they found out that the 20gb was outselling their flagship system so they cut it. even with a $100 price drop its still too expensive. ninja gaiden is one great game, too bad i've already played the crap out of it on the ORIGINAL xbox. im happy that sony fans are able to enjoy the ninja greatness.... but why not just make a sequel instead of a remake of a 4 year old game???

The launch was actually really successful, but soon after sales went down. It's not selling that well right now and it's pretty easy to find. But I'd expect that popularity will grow for it since it has great potential. It is doing pretty good in Japan though.
I dont think that without the hype and lack of systems at launch this would have do as well as it did. Come on what % of the original sales were people who just wanted to put them on Ebay.

im interested in a PS3, but they don't have any games that are system sellers for me. i hear Lair is pretty darn sweet even though i haven't tried it just yet. right now i could care less about their online gaming because compared to Live i don't think its up to the challenge.... hopefully sony and nintendo can get their stuff together and make online a better experience for everyone.

Check out Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword and the new Ratchet and Clank game. They all look absolutley awesome! Personally, the end of this year will be one of the best for gaming ever.

I wish someone would make a new and definitive Alien vs Predator vs USCM game that has a kickass story and both FPS and third person functions (ala SOCOM) with g-mod (ala Red Faction), that ulitilizes all the PS3's capabilities. I'd buy one tomorrow.

Currently playing the Godfather game, I like it over the 360 version for some reason. Everything runs more smoothly, it's hard to describe but when you play, you'll notice.

Really looking forward to Ratchet & Clank and the Drakes Fortune game(s).

don't forget transformers the game comes out in june i think...that'll be cool to play..not groundbreaking but cool.

But hey, Unreal Tournament 3 is coming out first for PS3 and that game is going to kick some major *** check the walkthroughs on gametrailers.com theres a crazy vehicle that's a ball with long legs attached to it and you drive it around as the legs flail around pushing you along, it's amazing.

That's coming out on Xbox 360 too though, so it's not special. UT3 is only minorly special to PS3 owners because they've got a timed exclusive, they're delaying the Xbox version until next year so that it'll be on PS3 longer (although I'll be getting it for PC which is coming at the same time as PS3)

If anyone's interested in getting a 60GB PS3 anytime soon for the $500 price then you should know that the warehouse stock is empty and the retailers will no longer be getting in shipments, so what's there is it until it sells out at which time only the 80GB will be available, which may or may not go down to the $500 price.

Latest I heard from G4 TV is that the newer PS3 units will NOT be backward compatible with PS2 games.

Maybe not that big a deal in the future but right now the best games for the PS3 are PS2 ones.

What the change is is that in the 60Gb and 20Gb versions it had it in the hardware for backwards compatibility, but in the 80GB one the only support is in software which severely limits it (essentially doing away with it all together) but it is written on the box that it has limited backwards compatibility. Although that doesn't matter to me anyway.

The PS3 here in Europe never had the 'Emotion Engine' chipset installed relying on software emulation for backwards compatibility. Never had a problem with any game I own, and as far as I know 80% of PS2 games and 99% of PS1 games work perfectly. Compared to the 360's 60% BC, I don't think this is an issue.

Since I'm getting one off eBay (you need to provide a receipt with merchant's name) am I elligible for this deal? I won't be heart broken as there's only one movie I really want out of the 5 you can get but it'd be pretty cool none the less.

You can't get the movies without a reciept of the purchase. Especially for something from ebay, they could have done the mail in thing already and then just sold it so that wouldn't work.

One last question before I hit the sack, does this thing do a good job upconverting standard DVDs? I really want to get rid of my current DVD player and just use the PS3 for both but still want to watch the standards in progressive scan.

Well, it had lots of bad reviews, but I really wanted a spidey game, and while what they said was true (the camera controls made it a problem), it still was enjoyable to play. But I really wish they would have fixed that camera problem, it wasn't even a big problem either, it was just the automatic camera messing with the manual controls.

The only concrete news was at the Toyko Games con couple weeks ago where Sony said there would NOT be a price drop anytime soon.

Sounds like (from G4 TV) the next PS3 iteration will have 2 less USB ports and will not play PS2 games (but will probably a bigger hard drive for what that's worth).

That said, others have theorized that around the holidays there may or may not be a price drop.

I honestly don't think there will be a price drop for the PS3 around Christmas time. They just kind of had one with the release of the 80bg model and Sony knows during that time of year people are shop crazy and just buy to buy.

I bet their will be a new bundle with an extra controller and game. I would expect a price drop a few months after the Holiday season when sales really start to sag.

I read about that UT3 delay this morning. That sucks. I guess they have to iron out some problems with adapting the Unreal 3 engine to the PS3.

There has got to be some sort of price drop around Christmas so since UT3 isn't going to be ready before then, do I wait or just take advantage of the 2 extra blu-ray movies I can get from Amazon right now. I think that ends today. The 5 free dvds is still valid until the end of the year I believe.

Well, it's not absolute that it's delayed until 2008, just most likely. But at least the PC version is still on schedule, I'm planning on getting that version so I can make some mods, and hey, if the PS3 version is delayed then there'll be a good amount of mods already available for download by the time it comes out.

So I ordered a PS3 on Amazon tonight. :o

I just couldn't resist. I have to get 7 free bluray movies. Plus I bought one as well so I'll have 8 dvds. Although four of the 5 free mail away offer dvds I couldn't care less about. :lol

It kind of pisses me off that it only comes with a standard av cable rather than at least component cables. Well I guess I'm just going to have to hit up eBay for an hdmi cable and an optical audio cable. :rolleyes: :cuss

Well the DVDs that I ordered from Amazon shipped today but not the PS3. I don't understand why since everything was listed in stock. :confused:

Yeah the cables are cheap on eBay, I'm not going to Best Buy for any of the $100 monster cables, that's for sure.

The two free ones I got with the system are Underworld:Evolution and PotC:Dead Man's Chest. Plus I also bought Underwold. :rock Kate Beckinsale :drool

The $399 40GB PS3 is probably gonna get released next Wed, the 10th. No official word, but way too many rumours flying around for it to be all a dream.

Best Buy already has it in their systems, basically the same day of SM3 release.

On Attack Of The Show today they were talking about a new stripped down PS3 that will be available first week of November. $399.99 should buy a PS3 with only 2 USBs, a 40 gig harddrive, no backward compatability, and probably no media card readers.

I think this is an example of where the marketing boys and girls told the higher ups that they can sell so many more units at $100 less and the higher ups decided the only way they could do that is to cut the cost of production by that much.

Um, I don't want to get into the intricacies of currency exchange but while the US Dollar costs more than a Jap Yen my point is clearly that the Yen is in a strong upward trend while the US Dollar in a weak spot.

i think its funny how playstation supporters ragged on the 360 when they said only limited backwards compatibility for old xbox games, but now that the new PS3 isn't gonna have BC the exact same people are saying that it isn't important and that if you were so worried about playing PS2 games that you would still have a PS2 system. IMO sony is totatlly hypocritical.... first they said that HD is the only way to go.... then hardly any of their games are full 1080p, HDMI is the path of the future.... but they won't even include a cable with the systems, 100% backwards compatibility is one of their most important features.... now due to cost they are cutting it out of some of their systems..... they criticized microsoft for having 2 different hardware systems.... now they have gone through almost as many as microsoft has.

~~i've owned every sony system since day one except for the PS3.... it seems to me that they went into this round of hardware competition with a little bit of laziness by expecting people to come flocking with their wallets open and blank checks written regardless of being completely ready for release. i love my 360 and the online is what will edge them above of the PS3 as long as they keep it up with the games and price advantage.... the Wii is also a fun system, but if you ask me the only thing that is keeping nintendo afloat is the incredibly low price tag. they just dont have the hardware specs to deliver the games that ADULTS really want. Zelda, Metroid, and Super Smash Brothers are the only games i see making a huge impact on the system besides kids games...... which is the angle Nintendo has been working for many years now.

alright add me to the list of PS3 owners. broke down and bought the 60gb this morning at gamestop. the only games i have are Resistance and Heavenly Sword. i will be renewing my gamefly account next month and should start testing out the waters on PS3 games.
~~right now gamestop is having a great deal on the 60gb PS3 while they still have them in stock. if you buy a new system they throw in a free game. here are the choices: Heavenly Sword, Resistance, and Genji.
you get your choice of with one of these and you receive a new game not a used one. sooo... if you wanted you could get Heavenly Sword like i did and return it to wal mart or something to get the full $60 store credit.

You have to use a free program called PS3 Video 9 to convert the files.

Unless it's a problem of finding the videos on the thumbdrive. That screwed me up for a bit. I had to press triangle to get more info from the media card I was using.

A Mac, man, I wish I could be more helpful. Doing a quick search it looks like VisualHub should work but I couldn't find any tutorials or walkthroughs. Found one on how to stream to PS3 but that's not the same thing. Good luck with that. As time goes by I'm sure there will be more Mac/PS3 support.

Call of Duty 4 just came out.

There's also Warhawk, Heavenly Sword (with Andy Serkis doing some characters). Rachet and Clank just came out. Make sure to look at reviews to decide on stuff. Gametrailers.com has some video reviews that are helpful if you want to know about stuff in a video form.

its OK at best. i like it because its longer than most FPS games i've played. i dont really like heavenly sword that much because i just couldn't get into the gameplay... and it seemed too darn short.

Not if you've got the 40GB version ;)

But I'd guess if you have one of the other PS3's with backwards compatibility it would work. But that's kind of a step down since the PS2 version would have worse graphics..

It's a really fun game though, I've been playing the Xbox 360 Demo and it's great. Although the Hard and Expert difficulties really are hard. But there's a certain pleasure that you get from actually being able to do the solos.

The did release a PS3 version and I think it's only ten bucks more than the PS2. If you're hooked up to an HDTV then I would go for the PS3 copy. (I like the PS3 guitar better, too.)

Actually the only reason I got it for the PS3 not 360 is because I didn't have any games for the PS3 yet. It's loads of fun for the whole family. In regards to playing GH2 on the PS3, although the game will work, the guitar won't because the PS2 guitar doesn't have the little PS3 power button.

Well that sucks. :monkey2:monkey2 That was one of the features I liked about the PS2 (though I don't play regular PS1 games anymore, but I did when the PS2 came out.) I have a ton of PS2 games.....guess my idea of selling my console to help pay for a PS3 isn't going to happen. Now I'm going to have to hang on to the PS2....there is no way I'm getting rid of my God of War games! :lol

I know what you mean. One of the reasons I got the PS3 after the first price drop was because my old PS2 crapped out on me right around when God of War dropped and I wanted to play them. Come to think of it, I've still only played PS2 games on my PS3. God of War, Katamari 1 & 2, Rachet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Bully... Nope, no PS3 games.

I really want the PS3 to succeed, but I'm not impressed by the current crop of titles out there. It's underwhelming.

The only games off the top of my head that interest me are Mario Galaxy (any A-quality Nintendo games) and some of the FPS/sports games on the 360. Though the PS3 has much the same sports titles, graphically they're barely any better than the 360 versions.

About the backwards compatibility issue, the new 40GB lacks any form of it, and the 80 uses software emulation, which is updatable through firmware, but far from perfect. It is the 'old' 60GB model that has hardware compatibility.

Before I forget to ask, do the controllers have rumble now?

Mario Galaxy is Wii only, the main things coming up for PS3 are Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, then Metal Gear Solid 4, and also Unreal Tournament III. But I don't expect any of those to be all that big.

And while they have the new Dualshock 3 with rumble, they aren't adding it to the new game systems, so if you want rumble you'll have to buy a new controller. They should have added it to the40GB version to offset the the stuff they took out, but Sony loves the exquisite pain they recieve from constantly shooting themselves in the foot.

Just got Assassin's Creed for the PS3 and WOW!

This is clearly one of the most visually stunning games I have seen. Heavenly Sword knocked my socks off with its look, but Assassin's Creed really bring a real look to it all...I am extremely impressed.

The game is fun too and has some of the most fluid and natural looking movements of game models I've seen in a long while. I haven't gotten very far...just arrived in "The Kingdom" hub-world...but I am interested in the game and the futuristic "backstory" is a very interesting twist that I am waiting to see how it unravels.

I didn't mean that they wouldn't be big, just not as big as a lot of PS3 fans expect them to be. Heavenly Sword was supposed to be big and while it was visually amazing and not half-bad, it wasn't nearly the caliber of some of the other good games this year like COD4, Bioshock, Guitar Hero III, or Super Mario Galaxy. UT3 is being released on PC next week which will take some of the momentum away from the PS3 release and the delays make it less popular. Same with Metal Gear Solid which continues to get delays. And Uncharted just isn't getting as high a profile as the other main releases this year, although it is amazing. The bad reputation of the PS3 doesn't help the titles either.

Although I think Metal Gear Solid is really odd, it looks pretty good, not as good as what the PS3 probably can put out, but still next-gen, but it's kind of ridiculous, I was watching a video and they were demonstrating how he was in a building and there was some guard walking around and while the guard was facing another direction he got closer and laid on the ground and camouflaged himself to match the floor patter, and then the guard just walked right past him and so he got up and killed him. But what was ridiculous was that it was so obvious to see him on the ground even if he did look like the floor pattern because there was still shadows and I'm sure from the standpoint of the guard it would have looked really strange. For a stealth game that would seem like the stupidest idea to think of.

But the statue camouflage thing would probably pass I think.

Assassin's Creed is said to look better on the PS3, but a lot of people are getting bad glitches on PS3's with the 2.0 firmware. It's a great game though. I'll have to decide if I want to wait for the PC version or go ahead and get the Xbox version.

From what I've heard Rock Band is easier than Guitar Hero III. But it's also got the drum set and vocals so there's more to it.

Expert is really hard, I've been trying it out on the Hard difficulty with the Xbox 360 controller and it's difficult, especially on the controller since the buttons aren't exactly logical. But it's good in a way since you don't have to strum the instrument while switching buttons. I tried on PC also (just for fun) and it's ridiculous, using the keyboard is horrible, you have to strum for each note while switching and that just doesn't work on the keyboard, which is odd, but it's horrible. I really need to try the actual guitar. But I've only got enough money for one game and I'm saving that for Mass Effect so right now I'm stuck with the demos.

I'm playing Gears again on the 360 and I'm having a blast playing guitar hero iii on the ps3 so I probably won't pick up Uncharted. Plus some time has to be dedicated to Mario Galaxy as well. :wacky In regards to the difficulty for GHIII, easy was well, pretty easy. I'm playing on Medium now which isn't that bad and finishing career mode shouldn't be a problem. Now hard and expert will probably be a lot more difficult. I was having a laugh watching a video of someone playing on expert mode and getting 100%. That's just freaking nuts. I didn't get 100% on easy. I got really close (ie 99%) many times but never hit 100%.

Anyone with a PS3 must buy Uncharted Drake's Fortune! I am an ultra 360 fan. I personally think it wipes the floor with the PS3. However, I think Drake's is the game of the year and worth all of you attention! It is like playing an Indiana Jones story. It is the best game I have played in a long time. :cool:

I beat Uncharted Drakes fortune tonight. I have to say now that I beat it, it was the best single player game I have played yet this year. You go PS3! This game rules. If you have a PS3 and not this game than shame on you. This game rocked! :cool:

i have it for the 360 and its one awesome game. i'd wait if i were you though. there are some bugs in it that the developers are making a patch for. hopefully it will be very soon because from what i hear all version of the game have the same problems. framerate issues, collision problems, AI problems too. i haven't noticed them that bad, but others have posted videos of people running through walls and falling through the ground...earth.

You should be good. It's still a fairly new unit even used. I didn't worry about the backwards compatibility because I ditched all of my PS2 games the day I got an XBox 360.

That it is. COD4 is by far one of the best on the PS3 in my opinion. The online play is awesome and just never seems to get old. If anyone is looking for an extra person to shoot with, add JPZ_81 to your friends list...or if anyone is looking to join a mature gaming clan, check out joinkof.com. We are a tight knit group of skilled shooters and great friends that currently play and compete on COD4 and RainbowSixVegas for the PS3.

I'm not that terrible @ COD4 anymore (though I wouldn't call myself good) and am looking to get a freak frag-fest going if we can get enough people. If we can get 8, that would be ideal so we could play domination. Even if we can't get 8, we can still meet in a party lobby and (I think) play against random jabronies.

I don't have a mic, so you won't be subjected to my cursing... yet.

PS3 to Outsell 360 This Year

UK, February 4, 2008 - Electronic Arts has just released predicted hardware sales for the coming year, with the Xbox 360 predicted to sell between 6 to 8 million units in North America and Europe, while the PS3 is expected to shift 9.5 to 11.5 million units.

The software giant expects the two consoles to be neck and neck in North America, with estimates for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 coming in between 4.5 and 5.5 million. It's in the European territories that Sony looks to steal a lead in the console race, with a predicted 5 to 6 million units sold as opposed to the Xbox 360 with 1.5 to 2.5 million. Nintendo's Wii is predicted to maintain a clear lead over the opposition, with combined European and North American sales of 12 to 14 million.

Meanwhile on the handheld front, the DS is again expected to triumph, with an estimated advantage over its chief rival Sony's PSP of around 8 million units.

PS3 SHOULD be outselling the 360 now. 360 was out about a full year before the PS3 and many people already owned a 360 when the PS3 came out. I think the fact that the 360 is selling nearly as well speaks volumes for the unit.

That's the one drawback as to why I haven't already got a PS3, no real "great" games out there for me. Once MGS4 and RE5 comes out, then I'll have some real games to play on it.

Heavenly Sword is awesome, as is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ratchet & Clank: FTOD is really fun and Resistance is also a very solid game.

I doubt it I think the fact that price of the Wii and this is the first game system ever to be popular in so many different age groups will keep it going strong. Plus a large % of people are not going to be buying Blu-Ray players since a large % don't have HDTVs,so the fact that its a Blu-Ray player will be a marginal help not a huge help to its sales.

I believe the PS3 line up to have the strongest titles in 2008. It will gain much steam and close the gap between it and the Wii and 360.

2008 is the year that he PS3 will start to really hold it's own and then some. Damn I can't wait for the slew of titles hitting!!!

I was very excited this week to get a new surround sound receiver that will decode and play the 7.1 DTS HD-MA audio tracks on some Blu-ray movies. I spent some time up in the attic running the cable for the two new speakers and was all ready to go.

Surprise!!

The PS3 will not internally decode DTS HD MA, nor is it capable of passing it out via bitstream for decoding by the receiver.

It's themed, Snake is all over the box, and the font is MGS-ish.

From what I have read and researched, it doesn't sound like the system will ever be able to pass it on via bitstream because of hardware issues. (Much like HDMI on the 360--it just needed a new unit altogether.) A firware update could allow the PS3 to decode it internally and send it out as PCM, but they have made no official announcements about when or if this update is coming. My guess is that they are going to wait until the stand alone players that support DTS HD MA have had a good window of opportunity to sell before undercutting them with a cheaper option on the PS3.

And it's not just the 7.1 movies that I am thinking of--even the DTS HD 5.1 tracks are going to be dumbed down from the real bitrate of up to 24mbps to the paltry core 1.5mbps until they give us the update.

Yeah it's the same old 80GB system but includes the MGS4 game and the new Dual Shock 3. It is also still backwards compatible with the PS2 unlike the 40GB.

opps, yeah, just the cardboard box is themed. the ps3 is the plain old 80 gb. But it's BWC is not as good as the 60 GB Emotion Engine.

Your buddy is full of ++++.(no offense)40 gb is nice,As far as in inner workings go?It's the same machine except for the BC.There are no SD card readers on the 40gb and 2 less USB ports.(which can be upgraded with a hub later on if you choose)no biggies.But i wouldn't call that a drop in quality.

at 399$ if you don't care about BC it's a deal.

Gonna go pick up a PS3 tomorrow. Yes! I need BR! And Batman Begins is releasing on BR in July!! I heard that the new 80GB PS3s come with a DS3 controller. Does anyone know if that is true? I might just go with the 80GB model if it does. If not, I'll just pick up a 40GB and a DS3.
