2nd SSF Figure Challenge development/idea thread

And to kickoff the next Challenge, The 2nd SIDESHOW FREAKS CUSTOM FIGURE CHALLENGE, I say, let's submit ideas that we all would like to see as a category for the next one.

You've all seen how a Challenge works now, from the Image thread, to the Comments thread, and how they compliment each other. To get to another set of those, we need to collectively submit ideas, categories, and areas of interest, and then, have us a poll after we have narrowed down categories to a reasonable few.
The poll with come later.

As for now, just post here what you'd like to see.
It can be just about anything, just remember, the more open the catergory, ie. a popular suggested one already, ZOMBIES, then the customizers can do anything, and exercise more freedom, than if your category is more limited, like say, Star Wars Villain. You could say, Unsung Star Wars character, but you will still only appeal to Star Wars fans or collectors. But, still, post something. Out of this list will come our poll. I'd also say, post your ideas by next Sunday. That way we have time to start the poll by then. It may only be up a week as well.

Anyone can make a suggestion, and any of us can comment on any ideas here. When there is a decent list, with not too many, but enough that seem realisticly feasible, the poll will be posted.

Also, a longer time frame until the next opening date, may be a better idea for this next one. I suggest at least 3 months, if not longer. Maybe, just before or by Halloween? But at least three months. Discuss this aspect as you go if you want. It would be nice to theme it if this kind of date is set. Not that we have to.

Custom 80's or early 90's figures. Like The Lost Boys, or Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure. Oh, or even BettleJuice. That would be fun as well. Or the cast of The Young Guns. Oh yeah, Point Break! Who wouldn't want a Johny Utah fig. LOL! If you can't tell I grew up in those years so that is what would be cool to me the most.

I've liked this notion since the idea of how use of all the Bucks came in on the last one.
Not against this idea at all. But it still needs discussion as to what kind of figure...maybe...:dunno

I'm down for Zombies (probably my #1 pick) ... I think you could have a lot of fun options with that one.

Assassins is a good one too, but we seemed to have already gotten a number of those with the female category.

Barbarians would also be nice.

1-10 second charaters you see you see in movie sometimes and think hey he was pretty cool.
Character from novels or comics who have not yet been animated of films.

Though if it is for Holloween, id would be cool to make it what people dress up as. Which is everything really. But Horror for Halloween seems to be perfect. Zombies, Aliens, Phycotic Killers, Monsters thers alot of choice, just like the female contest where she could be what ever you wanted as long as it was a lass.

I definitely like the zombies idea.

I think the challenge should be very open. I'd hate to see it limited to one specific body type or very specific characters. One of the coolest things about the last challenge was the wide variety of female customs we had.

I think a "doubles" competition would be neat. Make a pair of figures that complement each other...like r2d2 & c3po or Batman & Robin, etc. Like the Newt & Ripley made or even the David Mills with the head in the box like Josh made. There could be tons of possibilities there...how about a bride & groom zombie set?:D

A specific body and head sculpt would be cool but not practical. Make it so people don't have to spend the money and time to buy the parts needed. Plus it would be more of a who did better than who game. By not going that route everyone has a totally unique entry to be judged on it's own merit and not against someone elses work.

How about since this is a SSC forum, why don't we from the pick a lines (Like the dead) that they already have, and maybe expand on them.

Personally I love the dead idea but maybe we should have two challenges, the latter landing around Halloween for the zombies. Its effectively four months and I think two months might be more do-able, plus after four months, enthusiasm might wane.

I know I won't be able to do one (or more) in two months, but can by four, but that doesn't mean you guys can't have one that soon. I just hope there's more time than one month.

If you would, discuss it a bit more before we have a poll.
Whittle these down a bit, or specify what you visuallize or like about the ones we have already first. A bit. Then, in a day or so, I'll post a poll.
I don't think there's been enough discussion on these yet, to poll them.
Defend why you want or like a certain idea a bit more.
We need to have no more than 6 total categories to poll. See if you guys can whittle these down to six. That way, we will have at least thought these through some more.

I say we start the image thread by having somebody write out an introduction to a story. If we do the zombie storyline, we'd need a basic setup, like how the virus started, a fictional town as the setting, etc. and then let people work their characters in by adding to the basic storyline and posting their pics of their characters. We could even allow "zombie hunters" or "survivors" customs to add to the story.

then, when the figure challenge is done, we should have a nice little storyline fleshed out with characters.:D

A month or 2 should be enough time for most people I would think. My guess is after we poll this out zombies are going to be the winner. Easy enough for anyone to do, but challenging to make something really different. We'll see. Can't wait for the poll.:chew

That is a really cool idea... and gives people options of making "survivors" of various types. It could be pretty cool. I'm really excited no matter what we end up doing... this is fun.
