Thanks everyone! Gandalf is mixed media. I started it off as a watercolor and then went back in with acrylic ( mainly for the background and some highlights on Gandalf).

Both of these originals have sold and I don't have better scans. I can always paint something simular. I plan on doing a full color version of the Batgirl piece. Currently the only ones I have available as prints are these giclees:

For Doom I did this color concept and the finished painting you see in the earlier post (both gone). I will be doing a similar Doom but maybe with his pistol in his other hand or something. This is similar to another Hellboy I had done before but smaller and in Black & White. I had done it as a wash to test how I was going to layer my paints. When I first saw Asajj in CW Animated, I immediately saw her as a stylized, corpse-like figure. To me, she should be scary as hell and look like death. I've seen her in the comics looking "healthy" and some might say 'hot". In my opinion you shouldn't be attracted to this girlie unless your a necrophiliac.

You'll probably have to search ebay when the set comes out. LOTS of cards will be found there. I was really impressed with all the good art that's being produced from the artists on this set...so you should be able to get some good Faramir cards. I think there's 2 sketch cards per box. Jamal,
It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're returning to the hobby, I wouldn't worry about color and concentrate on your drawing skills, using pencil only. If you just want to cut loose and have a good time watercolor paints or watercolor pencils are good for that. Most art stores (Blick, Michaels, etc. all have books that show you basic method...I would suggest flipping through them and find the one that appeals to you the most. Watercolor is the hardest, but if you get the hang of it, then painting with opaque mediums (acrylic, oil) should come easier.

When it comes to lead pencils does it really matter what type you use?

When it comes to lead pencils does it really matter what type you use?
Pencils....personal preference. You'll have to experiment. Some like the 'mechanical pencil' because it's thin and you don't have to sharpen it. Lots of artists use the 'lead holder' that holds thick pieces of lead and has a sharpener attached. I prefer the old wooden pencil. I like to use the sides to draw with as well as the tip.
As far as your lead softness/hardness: again personal preference and (sometimes) humidity. Usually the more humid your climate is the softer you want your lead. I use and HB almost all the time. Sometimes a 2B for rough, expressive layouts.
Hope this helps...I'll send you a $bill for the lesson.:lol:lol

Rip; not really. Nothing more involved that high school art classes. I trained with a commercial artist for about a year, then started work in a advertising art firm at 19....that was the big education. But mainly experimenting and trial and error were my teachers as far as painting go.
