Official Transformer Movie Review Thread!!! - Spoiler Free until July 4th!

Ok guys keep this spoiler-free until it released State side...

Saw the film last night in Melbourne, Australia and it was really fun. I especially like how the line from that competition to make prime speak was rolled into the movie.

Anyway the cast, was good, Megan Fox is stunning, Shia LaBeouf's character was really likable, lots of comedy! Jon Voight's scene were a bit boring, basically anytime his on scene, opportune time for a toilet break... Josh Duhamel chacacter and acting was strong and not over played like I was expected he'd be, which is great. John Turturro character Agent Simmons, is quite possibly the most annoying Beauro dumb guy ever, so kudos to him for nailing his roll. Never wanted to punch someone out so much onscreen as him!
Australian Rachael Taylor, what an attractive girl, is played as an Aussie, which was neat and really held her own on the screen and really stood out from the rest of the cast, I thought... All the effects were great, a little too close to the screen at times, which was annoying because you'd be moving your head to find a better angles. All of the Bots voice acting and character interaction was well done. The Decepticons were scary, in the sence they were a real threat, the Autobots were real underdogs, Rocky has nothing on them! Optimus Prime was Optimus Prime. He had some great dialogue. But I think Bumblebee was the star of the show! His so cute!

The movie was a lot of fun and any TF fan should* like it! I personally loved it personally!!!

By the end of the movie, I also like the Transformers character designs the look better as moving images. Who knew???:o

I saw this a few days ago at the Adelaide Premiere (here in Australia) and it was fu*king awesome. Definetly will see again. Lot of action, humour. Eye candy galore. Especially hearing Optimus Primes voice which is the same guy (Peter Cullen) that did prime for the cartoon in the 80's. Too cool. My most enjoyed movie this year. I kept thinking I can't wait to own this on HD and play it in my theater as the sound rocked. I am going again this Satuday night night to see it again.

I thought it was ok.:rolleyes: I have no desire to see it again that's for sure. I grew up watching the cartoon but this movie just didn't do it for me. It wasn't as serious of a movie as the previews made it out to be, in fact it was as much of a goofball comedy as an action movie and I think that's why I didn't like it that much. From the comments during and after the movie from the crowd I think alot of people felt the same way...cheesetacular...sorry die hard Transformer fans.:o

I thought it was ok.:rolleyes: I have no desire to see it again that's for sure. I grew up watching the cartoon but this movie just didn't do it for me. It wasn't as serious of a movie as the previews made it out to be, in fact it was as much of a goofball comedy as an action movie and I think that's why I didn't like it that much. Awesome movie and MUCH better than I was expecting.

Incredible battle sequences.

A little too much forced comedy sequences at times but overall this movie was GREAT.

CGI was top notch and seemed very real.

Loved the Michael Bay "slow motion" bright scenes with the music going! :)

Prime was perfect and lots of classic characters.

4 out of 4 stars! Huge 80s cartoon, first gen, fan too.

How sweet was it to seen Prime stab Bonecrusher in the neck and take his head off in the Freeway scene... That was OPTIMUS PRIME, a real soldier doing what has to be done... Fast and effience and... Brutal! Loved it.

I didn't like how Prime didn't seem like a Physical threat to Megatron, who, I always felt, feared Optimus... And I agree with the lack of Starscream & Megatron and Starscream's scheming... Arr well... Still and awesome movie... Now if you please a minute silence for Jazz... :(

As a so far, non-fan of Transformers, you know, way too early a generation for them as youthful toys and all...I felt, going in to this movie, that it wouldn't speak to me.

I was wrong.

Is it Shakespeare? Hell no! Did I want that? Hell no! I wanted major robotic battle action. Did I get that? Holy HELL YES!

Was it fun? HELL YES!
Were the babes hot? OH...MY...GOD! Like the Aussie babe too! WOWSA!

Were the robots impressive? JEEEZZZUUUZZZ!!!!!!!!


So, was it a good movie to the objective guy? To me, non-fan-guy?....BEST SO FAR THIS YEAR! Bar none!
Wasn't pretentious, wasn't a sequel (Thank GOD!), delivered on it's own hype! Amazing!
Could have used less of the corny humor with the people, but, I was enthralled. And I did enjoy the character development of the robots with the backyard scene more than I would have thought. That was funny.

And, my favorite moment(s): The entire arrival of Optimus sequences of the movie. From the little girl, to his transform in front of the main guy, and saying his name, and unveiling all the other bots ad telling their story. I was totally entertained. That kicked some!

And, when the "thaw" of Megatron began, a dude in the audience was going, "Oh man, Oh man! This ain't gonna be good!" and we were all loving it!
Haven't heard that much talking back to a movie in ages.

And yeah, Megan Fox was so hot I am still needing a cold shower! Check out under the hood indeed! OUCH!!!!!!

Great movie. I am happy for all you Transformer fans. You guys had to have fun with this one.

Hey, I respect all that guys. I think everyone's just very excited, as you will be I am certain.

I have to admit, I went into this thinking, OK, I'll be nice. I'll show support. It will no doubt be a fun movie, and I will enjoy it.

What's happened though, that I have to express, is the dire need to go see it again! I can't get it out of my head! That hasn't happened to me in a long time. That unbearable feeling of compulsion to go see a movie, even though you have other things to do. A pull...

This is a very good movie. For once, a really, fun, good movie. I am so grateful for that. And, I have never been a Michael Bay fan in any way. But, I agree with something I saw Spielberg say about him, "God created him to make this movie". His style is perfect for this kind of film. You cannot go over the top more than this type of subject, and a Michael Bay is just right for it.

I hate some of you true fans having to wait. I sympathize. I would have traded out with any of you that haven't been able to see it yet, in a heartbeat....so I will respect your non-spoiler wishes. But, once you have seen it, all bets are off! So are the kid gloves! This flick's too darned cool! It must be discussed!

Well I just got home from seeing it for the second time and I have to admit that I enjoyed it a lot better the second time. The theater wasn't as packed and the crowd wasn't laughing at some of the lame plot lines (not the jokes mind you) like late last night which I think kind of ruined the first showing for me.

Still not a perfect movie but it was a heck of a ride. I have plenty of issues with it and with the final battle that I won't get into right now to keep this spoiler free but I hope that when the movie is released it is a directors cut and fills in a little of the holes in the story.

I loved it, and everyone else in the theater seemed to as well. The cgi on the Bots and Cons was amazing! There wasn't a single moment when they didn't look absolutely real. The camp humor was played perfectly with the exception of John Tururro (he was just awful, by far the worst part of the movie) and some rather off putting sterotypical humor with black characters. Fantastic action scenes and plenty of fanboy nods. I'm already getting excited for the inevitable sequel because this movie is gonna make a ton of money.

I just got back from seeing this. Without a doubt, this was one of the best movies I've gone to theaters to see. I love Pirates of Caribbean, but I enjoyed this more. It had tons of humor, superb casting, great action, great filming, I find NO flaw in this film, this is already a definite first day on DVD buy it movie, and I'll likely see it again at least one more time. I am still attached to 80's optimus prime, but after seeing the new design on screen and not just stills and toys, it rocks, going to have to by me a figure of him.

Now someone take the keys for Superman out Singers hands and give them to Bay... I'm sorry, but I want to see a Superman Action movie... Returns does not live up well to repeated veiwings in my book, I enjoyed the movie but it was very meh, neither here, nor there. I reckon Bay would do a good Superman movie, I want him to be an action hero!!! Bay would also do the whole cheesy Truth, Juctice & the American Way bit well, as well... Anyone agree me?

This was an amazing movie. I really really enjoyed it. What's interesting is that they could have easilly made it an R movie, there were lots of What the Fu....! And did you notice how it didn't really show any people dying. Like seeing anyone falling out of damaged buildings of being smashed by a robot and whatnot. I hope it comes out on HD-DVD, that would be amazing.

I am so PROUD to be a Transformers fan right now, this movie ROCKED, plain and simple! :rock

I loved it from beginning to end and had chills running all throughout my body the whole time. All of the elements, (Human, Robot, Action & Comedy) blended perfectly. Optimus was the hero I've always admired, Bumblebee was a true soldier and Ironhide, Jazz and Ratchet were all true to character. Megatron was a beast, Starscream a coward, I would've like to have seen more interaction between the two, but future movies I'm sure will take care of that, the rest of the Decepticons were brutal but got stomped by the Autobots and soldiers. Shia was great, Megan Fox GORGEOUS and the rest of the cast nailed their parts! :clap

I damn near cried when I saw Optimus Prime transform and heard Peter Cullen's voice come out. I felt like I was 8 years old again watching this, I found myself all tensed up with mouth wide open in awe. I don't think there was one moment when I felt disappointment throughout.

My brother and I were talking on the way home and I told him (just like Chase said) that Transformers is better than Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3 and FF2, no Bull! I must see it at least one more time and I can't wait to own it on Blu-Ray or DVD.

I couldn't agree more, and I too saw it in a digital theater and holy **** was I blown away by the picture and sound, can't imagine seeing it with less, and Megan Fox is a find piece of arse too. Like I said, I had reservations about the new Optimus Prime design because of him always being my childhood favorite and being attached to the classic design, but once you see him in action in the film, he just rocks, and having the original voice actor to do his dialogue was critical and a very wise choice.

I have a BFA Degree in Video. I have studied FILM since I was 12 years old, astutely since I worked in a Video Store in 1982 at age 21. And seriously, student-wise, since. I studied the art of Film Narrative and all that high end hogwash, and have seen more movies that most people can. You had to at the Video Store, "Is this movie good?". You know....you had to see them all....
Worked there off and on from 1982 to 1996. College in between and so on and so forth. I have seen and own silent films from Sergei Eisenstien, and have studied his and many other filmmaker's editing, style and cinematic sensibilities. I have seen almost every major horror film since the notion was created, INCLUDING what exists of Mr. Edison's first ever Frankenstein. So, I have seen all the movements in the history of Film. Studied them. Acutely.
I can talk the Movie Smack!
Hell, I have sat through all of Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible set, and that is no easy task!
Seen Foriegn, Domestic, Comedy, Drama, Chick Flick, Action, YOU NAME IT!

Point being, I have seen plenty. SO, I don't need some uppity critics at some site, telling me that what I saw, and enjoyed, makes me dumb, or immature, or some less-than-intelligent sloth, incapable of seeing a movie for what it is.

I know that TRANSFORMERS cannot be a "highbrow" viewing experience. NOR, would I want it to be. Hell, I am a HARD CORE Godzilla fan. Have EVERY one of those, good and bad, and know the difference.

So, what has all this bloated explanation have to do with TRANSFORMERS?

All this to say, I can see for myself, and have, that it is FUN!
Some movies, are just , plain FUN!

I have said that I cannot speak for the Transformers fans out there, no way. Not my era or generation. BUT, I know a fun movie when I see one. And this was a LOT moreso than anything I have seen this year. BAR NONE!
I really did enjoy Live Free or Die Hard. That one was really good. Pirates stank. Why, because they got too carried away with themselves. Same with Spiderman 3.

This movie however, just took me and led me through a fun ride, and I was glad to be there. No pretense, no plan, just a bunch of giant robots rocking! How....in hell....can that....be taken seriously?!?!??!?!?

I will not compare. Nor will I waste any more time defending, a giant robot movie. IT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. Beauty, is in the eye of the beholder! And, I am, this go round, with those that see the beauty in that moment, when Optimus Prime rose up, and that little girl said, "Are you the Tooth Fairy?", and we all collectively shed a tear.

Just had to comment on this as it is one of my all time favorite films. Whatever flaws Bruce had, I still to this day consider it more believable than half the CGI out there, one of Hollywood's all time best robotic creatures and classic if you ask me.

As for Transformers, you really hit the core of it Les. Transformers is not a film to make a viewer go "oh did you see how he framed that shot" or "did you see the acting there". This film is a video rollercoaster where you strap yourself in and from moment one, you just enjoy it for the fun ride it is, the thrills, the excitement, and for many, nostalgia of childhood. Some movies are made to be works of art, and they win Oscars, others are made simply to give the audience a good time, those are the films that make the big blockbuster money (Titanic being one of the exceptions). Transformers is the kinda movie Hollywood hasn't seen much of lately with all the remakes and what not. Granted this movie is based of pre-existing material, like most movies nowadays, but it still delivers pure escapism, fun, and thrills that make going to the movies fun. Nothing more successful to a movie in my mind than when it engages a theater full of people and draws out laughs, cheers and an excitement that fills the room, and when I sat in that theater yesterday, everyone young and old got taken for a fun ride and loved every minute of it, success in my eyes.

Looks like it made about 9 million domestic for the first day of playing (that would be the 8:00-midnight showings on the 2nd) and about 45 million worldwide so far according to boxofficemojo. That's pretty darn good.

Wish it had been closer to the original design. I remember as a kid I thought it would be cool to do a live-action movie where the toys are all giant-sized. Just isn't quite the same.

I think it was worth seeing and in retrospect I wish that I had gone ahead and brought my son. I think he would have liked it and wouldn't have been scared at all.

But if I were to compare this to a roller coaster, it would be one of those roller coasters where you slowly climb up and gain altitude for what seems like forever before finally going over the edge and picking up momentum. I was getting impatient waiting for the robots to get on the screen and do their stuff. Seriously--was it like an hour or so before the autobots finally arrived on Earth?

Just watched a few minutes of this. The helicopter just transformed and started attacking the military base. Looks pretty cool. They even kept the old transforming sound from the cartoon. I may have to go see this in the theater.

Why does Hans Zimmer have to do the cheesy score for every Michael Bay film? So far this feels just like The Rock and Armageddon.

That intro with the Prime voice-over was pretty cool, although it reminded me of Charlton Heston's narration for the intro to Armageddon.
