I really like the Gundam designs but could never really get into the shows. Also since the really cool stuff is models I typically stay away :monkey2

Although I now seem to remember there was a deluxe 12" figure 4 or 5 years ago that looked like it would be a nice definitive piece... but I could never seem to find out release information.

I love the Gundam shows! I used to have quite a lot of model kits but I sold the majority of them. I only have a set of 1/100 scale Gundam Wing Endless Waltz model set left. I thinking about getting the 1/60 perfect grade Wing Zero Custom but I don't have a lot of time at the moment. Maybe some time down the road.....
Here's about the only picture of some of my models!

Hey! I put those very same models together during my first year in Japan.... and the origin of my name (DarkArtist) came out of it. Loved the Gundam Wing model series. The show was ok, had it's good and bad.

Thanks guys! I actually painted some of these and added a lot more detail to them. There are over a dozen different Gundam series out there. I am sure there is one for everyone!

If anyone is interested in buying some Gundam model kits at pretty decent prices, check out this website!

Did someone say Gundam?

I'm a big fan of Universal Century 0079 era Mobile Suit Gundam. I have all the episodes of the original MSG includingthe "lost" episode (which would have been ep. 15 I think). I also love the 08th MS Team series. It finally came out in one box set with all the DVDs included.

I have put together a couple of the 1/60th scale Perfect Grade model kits. Naturally they are the RX-78-2 and Char Aznable's red Zaku. Both of them where over $100 and come with almost thousands of parts. It's totally worth it, however.

The pics below are not of mine, but that's what mine look like! They kick ass!!!

Gunadm model kits are great! especially the latest version 2 MGs. The freaking engineering in the joints are worth the purchase just to find out how the hell they achieve it. The latest Zaku version 2 is an engineering marvel. I wish the same kind of leap and bounds can be done in 1/6 figures.

Here is a korean site that has reviews on "ALL" gundam model kits.

BTW, zeonography is just the series in FIX that indicates they are Zeon robots instead of the federation. Also, most FIX/Zeonography figures now comes with extra parts that you can use to make the figure into a completely different robot.

I saw this thread and thought "Gundam?". Haven't heard anything about them years. But after seeing the pics in this thread I'm beginning to regain interest. I watched Wing a little, but couldn't get into it. Endless Waltz was pretty good though. My preference would be the original MSG, the 0079 era. I've actually got a kit sitting my garage I've even touched. Might have to dig that out and take a look at, especially after seeing some of these. It's the RX-78 version 2 I believe. Not exactly sure what the Model Type or Level is off the top of my head. There's a shop over here call Hobbytown that carries A LOT of them. At least they did for a while. They had Eva models too, anybody here into Evangelion???

Luckily I picked it up for about $120 from a local hobby shop! But knowing me it'll take forever to finish it, since I like to take my time to get it just right, plus I'm not that experienced with models. It's only my second Gundam purchase I still don't know much about it, but this model is just so beautiful, I had to get it!

I wish, but no it's just some local joint that didn't know much about it--I guess they ordered it with a bunch of other stuff and didn't care much about the price, so I asked them and they said they'll call me when it comes in. It took a little nagging but I really couldn't pay more--and it paid off!

Should be a couple of weeks but hey, for the price I don't care!

I remember building my PG W0C. It took pretty much my entire senior spring break :google It took a whole day just to wire up the lights for the eyes and the 0 system! I've build three more since: RX-78, and two Zakus (one custom paint job.) It does seem Bandai's given up on the line for now, choosing to focus on upgrading MGs. I still would have liked a PG God Gundam :D

One of my favorite pieces in my collection is actually a Korean bootleg I bought off eBay of one of the Musha Gundam models that was scaled up and turned into a toy.

http://wildcard.geofront.com/lj/samurai.jpg

Really well-built for a bootleg, with some nice articulation and made out of sturdy plastic. And the beam rifle makes really cheesy laser sound effects!

http://wildcard.geofront.com/collection05/set2/02-05.jpg

It's a Gundam Mk II RX-178 with samurai armor and an arsenal of weapons, and it's awesome :) (Note: That's the 12" Sideshow Hellboy next to it, to give you a sense of scale.)

Though I agree Optimus Prime would eventually prevail over a Gundam I don't think it will be a walk in the park. Gundams are generally the same height as a space shuttle which would put your pic, cool as it is, out of scale.
It would be more like Prime vs Devastator in scale or Godzilla vs King Kong with Kong winning.
Now there would be a topic for discussion -
Optimus Prime vs the Gumdam RX-78
Optimus Prime vs the Wing Zero Gundam
Optimus Prime vs the Gundam Mark II
Optimus Prime vs the Zeta Gundam

The list could go on and on, but bring it on. More giant robot battles, please.

I agree that G1 Convoy can take out some Gundams (Mostly 0079) but there are Gundams that would totally own G1 Convoy. It wouldn't even be a fight.

G1 Convoy vs RX-78 piloted by Amuro - Convoy wins but only if Amuro is NOT piloting

G1 Convoy vs Wing Zero Piloted by Herro Yuy- Wing Zero Wins

G1 Convoy vs Camille in MK-II- Tough one I'd say it could go either way if Camille was not piloting it would go to Convoy

G1 Convoy vs Zeta Piloted by Camille- Zeta wins

Since i'm just getting into Gundam but have been a Transformers fan since I was a kid, i'd have to go with Optimus... but still agree with some here that it would be an issue of which mobile suit was in the fight. Some Gundam could probably blow Optimus away with one shot or one sword strike.

Either way, i'd be a friggin sweet battle, and i'd love to see a Transformers/Gundam crossover rather than a Transformers/Avengers as planned.

For shats and giggles, I found this and added comic lettering:

Thanks for your words. As with all Versus arguments, what matters most is who would win, not who you like more. Just want to clarify otherwise it just beceomes a huge flame war. While Convoy is pretty tough and super heroic he's just not as unstoppable as lots of the Gundam out there and lacks a lot of the range and versatility that many Gundam have, not to mention that many of the Gundam pilots are just insanely skilled, showing battle prowess that far exceeds that of G1 Convoy in the show and movie.

Okay, I agree with most of your results, I mean I love Prime but he would be over-matched with some of the top Gundams out there.
The G1 Optimus Prime vs Gundam RX-78 would be the best matchup in my opinion, it is like the original Transformer vs the original Gundam.
Prime being defeated by the Wing Zero is one were no matter how much you like Prime, the Zero system would give the pilot the advantage in a fight. It is like Superman vs The Hulk, Supes is everyone's hero but the Hulk would take him apart simply out of rage.

How about
Megatron vs. Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78, Amuro Ray pilot
Megatron vs. Wing Zero Gundam, Heero Yuy pilot
Megatron vs. Mobile Suit Gundam MK-II, Camille pilot
Megatron vs. Zeta Gundam, Camille pilot
Megatron vs. Mobile Suit Nu Gundam RX-93, Amuro Ray pilot

Now by Megatron I mean the original G1 Walther P38, the Harbinger of death himself.

Also, just for you Gundam fans out there, who do you think is the best Gundam pilot and which is the best Gundam? I mean in any form, Anime, Manga, video games, etc.

without going into too much detail, I think gundams will win all the match, the only thing I see in megatron's advantage is that he is not really a head to head fighter, he uses traps and such, also, been a robot, he can last longer than the human pilots. besides, most gundams (the really powerful ones) are used for space battle, and we dont really know how good megatron is at space battle, (the difference between space and land battle was not really an issue for G1 transofrmers)

IMHO, I still think amuro is the best pilot, probably because I grew up watching him. I always wanted to see what amuro can do with the MK2, but they never really let him pilot it.

Bagel, could you take pics of all the parts while they are still on the plastic frames? Just want to know how much painting is needed on that one.

Also, with the scale being pretty small, would it be ok to get by painting parts using just the paint markers or do you really need to buy spray paints?

yo man. lets see:

i'll take pics tomorrow night for ya. if i remember correctly (to lazy to go open the box again) there are about 9 or 10 runners (plastic frames) in the kit.

i like the paint markers, but i would only use those on 1/144. even though the mg is slightly larger, the amount of pieces and more detail (imo) require airbrushing or spraying. plus, it's easier if you think about it, to just keep the parts on the runners, cut the runners to organize colors, and just spray the whole runner with parts. then just do panel lines with your marker/pen.

i ordered it from hobbywave.com, i think it was $33 -ish.

from first looks, it's a great kit. parts are very detailed, and there are minimal seams on the armor. the laser sword is molded in translucent green plastic, there are 2 beams and they look cool. same thing with the eneregy shield thingy, same green, very cool.

just got done washing my runners to get rid of the residue from the molding process. :rock

i've been using sakura micron pens on my new mg, they work so much better for panel lines than the markers. the .005 tip is perfect!

hells yeah!!

don't get me wrong, i like the markers. i just find that i have to touch up less with the sakura pens, they've got really thin small tips that work well with the panel lines :rock

Heres some pics!! Now i have i sheet of stickers and another one that looks like tatoos( they may not be) but how do you apply those? they look better than the stickers cause they dont have the transparent square the stickers have. any help would be appreciated,!

kickass dude! lookin' good :rock

are the decals on a transparent sheet of plastic-like paper (very thin) or are they on a paper with a solid green-bluish background? if they are on the transparent one, then they are rub on decals. to apply those, just place the sheet (shiny side up) over the place you want the sticker on (i suggest cutting each individual decal out and holding it down with a piece of tape so it stays stable) and rub the top of the sheet over the decal until it is kinda grayed out. this will transfer the decal onto the plastic of the gundam. then just slowly peel back, and it should be all good.

if it's on a greenish/bluish background, then its a water decal... so fill up a cup with warm water, cut out each sticker, and grab a pair of tweezers. put the decal with the backing into the water, and wait for the sticker to start to release from the paper. then QUICKLY place the decal onto the plastic of the gundam, and blot off VERY GENTLY with a tissue. don't wipe it.

i need a video camera to do videos like you do, it'd make this easier haha :rock

Hey P!tu, I suggest you go out and a blue felt pen, like a sharpy or something, and go over the places where you cut the parts from the frame. The white burrs they leave are kinda unsightly. It's best if you use an x-acto knife to shave the burr down so it's almost gone, and then use some color to conceal it.

if I remember correctly, G system is a hong kong (?) based group that sells modified bandai kits. Basically, their stuff is pro quality from what I understand, and some of their product goes up to thousands.
