Yeah, Palisades made some really nice stuff and when they went belly up, the prices dropped like a rock. You can get a lot of those items for a song on the bay.:D

Yeah, too bad about Palisades. They really did make some cool stuff. I have a few LOTR figures they made. I remember seeing these AvP statues somewhere a while ago. I wouldn't mind having them at all, they look very well made. Btw, what do they generally go for on the bay these days?

I got a pretty good deal, but I think it was because the title was a little ambiguous. "ALIEN VS PREDATOR BATTLE SCENE FIGURES ". Got the pair for 100.00

Congrats on the set C. I too have the set for quite a while now, watch out on those blades(2 sets) on the Scar Predy statue, they are VERY fragile. Here're some pics of the their last piece, the Grid Alien(The color of the blood is not accurate but it an easy fix) bust.

It's too bad that the HT Grid Alien doesn't look as good as that mini-bust. They just painted on the grid and the color was even wrong. The detail on that bust shows all of the grooves from the net cut into the dome. Incredible.

From a distance it does look like the grid is just painted on and that's what I thought when I first got it. But the scoring is there, it just isn't very deep. And even though the color is more green than yellow, you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to it. Maybe one of these days I'll repaint it when I have time, and cut the grid a little deeper while I'm at it, but I can live with it for now. Besides Queenie it was the only memorable alien in AvP, and it's the only HT Alien I have at the moment. I can hardly wait for that Aliens version!!!

The scoring is pretty hard to see in these pics, but it's there I tell ya! :D

dekadentdave
06-15-2007, 12:46 PM
I'll take your word for it but the paint really cheapens it I think. It looks like a glorified version of the McFarlane 12".

Les? Les? Yoo hoo... Les?

Grid could really use some of your magic.

I like the brown alien much more than that grid one.

I agree, Brownie has more character. Still, the Grid isn't too bad if you have one in your hands. A little tweaking would improve it quite a bit, and you wouldn't even have to have FML skills, but a complete workover would make it look a hell of a lot better than it does out of the box, no doubt about that!

galactiboy
06-15-2007, 01:31 PM
I only have the regular grey version... but I think out of the three the brown is probably the best looking, but I don't think they ever had brown ones in the movie so it seemed like an odd choice to me.

customizerwannabe

I have all 3 versions and like them all. The paint on the grid could be better, but it is scored and can therefore be easily repainted.

Those pics rock, bro! Just what I was looking for. I can see the cuts are a lot deeper and there's also a lot more grid damage on the right shoulder than the HT figure has. Looks like they used later images for the blood pattern, judging from the "group" pic. I like the earlier look better, so I guess I've got some work to do. With these grabs for reference it should make the job a lot easier! I'll post some pics of him when the deed is done. Thanks again for the help, man!

Those are from the movie!? That's way more quilles than on the surviving mask in Bob Burns' collection.

He looks like a rock lobster crossed with a puffer fish.

06-16-2007, 05:15 AM
He does indeed! It's a lot easier to see all those details on him in stills like this. Now we have some cool pics to use as a reference for doing the quills on him.

Thanks again for these great screengrabs of the Elder, Dave. These are going to help a lot and should be all I need to get started on my own Elder repaint. I hope I can return the favor one of these days.

Yeah dude! Timely pics!
My custom one is due anytime now. Thanks for this help. And yeah, Bob said that many quills came out of the mask. There are more, but not too many over a large area. Mostly beside and above the eyes, and the "beard", so beyond those, it's really personal preference.

Cool images!
Love dem Elders! :D

BTW, I know what those dreads feel like! Just thin hollow painted rubber, like a Halloween mask. Smells like latex. But, that's the magic of Hollywood! Looks GREAT on film! That's all that matters.

I just picked up the Ancient Predator (Special Version) on a shopping trip , It was in an "old school " model shop that sells train sets and die-casts for God's sake ! It should have been safe ! Anyway , I'm feeling rather extravagant as I'm also awaiting delivery of my Chopper from Sideshow this week . I'm on Sideshows "wait list" for the Celtic and it would seem churlish not to get an Elder to finish off the set . I'm telling you all this because you all share part of the responsibility and therefore blame ! I was quite happy with my single Scar Predator until this thread started and the photos seeped into my brain . Shame on you all. .

Yeah , but ebay sales rely on paypal , which I have no problem with if I've got money in the account , but at the moment I'm pretty much reliant on the plastic as I'm not doing much selling at the moment ! So that's why these Predators will see me in the poor house! Like I've said elsewhere on the forum , I wasn't particularly bothered about having multiple Predators as the armour seemed pretty standard , but after watching the DVD extras and seeing pics posted of the figures "en masse" , I realised how damn cool they looked as a "clan" so there you go . I was trying to get out of the "completist" attitude of collecting stuff as my house ain't gettin' any smaller but I've just been given permission by The Wife for some display space in the main living room ( she has no knowledge of the movies ,but the look of the Predators seems to fit in with the "Ethnic" look of our recent re-decoration) getting a complete clan makes sense ! ( I love it when a plan comes together!) Just a brief aside though , visitors who have no 1/6 or genre interest , have been coming into my house ( I've had a recent addition to the family ) and saying ( I quote ) " Cool Predators " when they see my Scar and Ancient Predators on display . :D

According to a post over at the Movie Maniacs forums, NECA has acquired the license for AvP2 figures.
Interesting news.

I supppose they will be doing the usual assortment of 6" figures plus a few 18". I hear that they are more into sculpt than articulation (unlike McFarlane's efforts for their Alien, Predator and AvP lines, which boasted extravagant ammounts of articulation for McF, and a less than accurate approach to sculpting).

They showed off a 2-up of the alien. Had some decent articulation. I'm sure we can expect these to be more accurate. Plus they're doing some 'classic' stuff.
