Looking closely at the sculpt, it becomes immediately apparent that articulation could be built into the sculpt without interfering too much with the design.
I truly hope HT take this into account when they go into designing a fully articulated figure of the Alien xenomorph.
As a matter of fact, they should just take this sculpt are reverse engineer articulation into it! :D

I'm THINKING that they're hard at work trying to accomplish an Aliens Queen, and I say this because the Aliens line started pretty full speed, but now, over the span of a year, we've only see 1 Warrior figure and the PL, which is an enormous accomplishment and badass, but knowing the type of momentum they put into things, I have a feeling something bigger than another warrior is in development there, but it could also be that efforts are in the works to secure licenses they don't yet have.

More news:
Kyle Windrix, head sculptor at NECA and former sculptor at McFarlane (he sculpted the Alien and Predator prototype boxed set) has stated that NECA will release an 18" figure of the alien!
Now, I'm trying to sort out whether he means an 18" figure of an alien from AvP2 (NECA's got the license) or an 18" figure of the original Giger alien...

THE ORIGINAL SPACE JOCKEY....
Guys, seems there is another little known film besides the clear ALIEN template "IT! The Terror from Beyond Space" which influenced Alien. A Buddy told me about it yesterday. It's a an old B movie called "Planet of the Vampires" made in 1965, yes, I know it sounds cheesy and it was in some aspects (the outfits were leather Wolverine like suits) But it was ahead of it's time in concept in some elements, in it a tractor beam like "force" pulls a spaceship to it (ESB?), and they use parcec as terminology (don't know if that is an actual term)
And in this film you will find the original Space Jockey which was found in a derelict ship, imagine that...
My Buddy lent me the DVD and sure enough there is a space jockey, sure it was ripped off for Alien and Wor-Gar even mentioned Ridley acknowledged that...
anyways, the original Space Jockey.

Same exact design as the one in ALIEN P?
Well.... Spoiler Alert for those who want to be surpised...
Scroll below for answer...
The crew had spotted a shiny object in a fog bank and went to explore and found a derelict ship. The space jockey in this film was outside the ship and was the skeletal remains of a human looking figure 3X the size of a human. The actual look of it was strikingly similar to the SJ in ALIEN. I believe there was another SJ inside the derelict ship, he was not sitting in a chair or anything... but there is no doubt this was the Original SJ.

Maybe someone can do something I always wanted done on the ALIENS thread but I don't have screen grab software, and what is that you ask?
Well the Actual ALIENS grand dad film, the orginal Bug Hunt Movie called "THEM!", in it you will find the original Newt, original Ripley, plenty of elements retooled for that film, Military Soldiers using flamethrowers in Queen Egg chambers, translucent eggs, etc.

Ah, I didn't know there was a 4th film, wait is Winona Ryder in it?
Yes. Here's a quick breakdown.
ALIEN
A worker ship with a crew of a half dozen is sent to investigate an alien signal from planet LV-426; the crew finds a derelict ship full of alien eggs, one crew member attacked and impregnated with an alien which later hatches from within him and escapes. The crew is killed one by one until Ripley is left and destroys the alien and escapes.
ALIENS
After the Wayland Yutani corporation rescues Ripley from her space travel, they dispatch a group of colonists on LV-426 to investigate the craft described by Ripley. After discovering the craft, the xenomorph alien species begins in infest the LV-426 colony; upon losing communication with the colony, coloniel marines are dispatched along with Ripley to investigate the matter; war breaks out between marines and aliens leading to a final showdown between Ripley and the alien queen.
ALIEN 3
After escaping LV-426, Ripley's space vessel encounters mechanical failure after an alien egg stashed onboard hatches and its acid blood eats through the mechanicals; Ripley is ejected in an escape pod that lands on a penal planet where an alien egg impregnates a local animal and gets lose within the prison and everyone races to survive their new guest.
ALIEN Resurrection
Over the years, word about the power of the xenomorph species has spread to earth's military and led to a project to clone Ripley, who had been impregnated with an alien queen in 3 and died to kill the species. After finally succeeding with cloning, the queen lays eggs and a group of space mercenaries is enlisted to provide hosts for the alien eggs. Once the aliens reach maturity, they learn a way to escape and get out into the ship; most of the crew escapes but for a handful of military personnel, Ripley, and the mercenary crew. It's a fight for life to escape the military vessel and prevent the alien species from reaching earth.

who knew?..........ive seen the original with & without box fetch some serious bucks on the bay. the whole story of him being too frightening for children (making it fairly rare) from a marketing standpoint always makes me laugh, i couldnt wait to get him. mine is pretty close to mint because he wasnt played with much, .....but the box?......well, thats long gone as hell........i ripped him open and tossed that sucker :monkey2
It's funny how the kids in that commercial didn't seem to mind! "Another triumph for Alien!" :lol

Yeah, even today with movies like The Dark Knight. I know it won't be rated R, but it's still not for young kids who will want the Mattel figures.

He was selling a few old alien toys but thats about it. I had my suspicions about him but if he was telling the truth I was pretty impressed and it was quite cool to meet him. He mentioned that ripley could be quite grumpy now and then. :lol
Eh , with millions and such a fan base how can you be grumpy !.
Some are never pleased , buy you still rock my world ripley !. :rock

Damn barryo! That's a nice pic!
Seeing the size of that thing makes shudder with dread anticipation at the actual size of the NECA alien, it's supposed to be around 21"-22" tall!
BTW, could you post more pics of your Kenner Alien?
I've always wanted to see more good pics of it. Somehow the ones on the net aren't so hot...
Thanks anyway!

Maybe I should ask this in the thread for the NECA figure, but I thought it was supposed to be 18" tall. Or is it just 18" scale, which might make it taller than 18"?

The first page ( Synopsis and characters) of an early, I believe first, "ALIEN" Screenplay Draft... interesting...
ALIEN
(project formerly titled STARBEAST)
Story by Dan O'Bannon & Ronald Shusett
Screenplay by Dan O'Bannon
1976
SYNOPSIS
En route back to Earth from a far part of the galaxy, the crew of the
starship SNARK intercepts a transmission in an alien language,
originating from a nearby storm-shrouded planet.
Mankind has waited centuries to contact another form of intelligent
life in the universe -- they decide to land and investigate. Their
search takes them to a wrecked alien spacecraft whose doors gape open
-- it is dead and abandoned. Inside they find, among other strange
things, the skeleton of one of the unearthly space travellers.
Certain clues in the wrecked ship lead them across the hostile surface
of the planet to a primitive stone pyramid, the only remnant of a
vanished civilization. Beneath this pyramid they find an ancient tomb
full of fantastic artifacts. Lying dormant in the tomb are centuries-
old spores, which are triggered into life by the men's presence. A
parasite emerges and fastens itself to one of the men's faces -- and
cannot be removed.
An examination by the ship's medical computer reveals that the
creature has inserted a tube down his throat, which is depositing
something inside him. Then it is discovered that the parasite's blood
is a horribly corrosive acid which eats through metal -- they dare not
kill it on the ship.
Ultimately it is dislodged from its victim and ejected from the ship,
and they blast off from the Hell-planet. However, before they can seal
themselves into suspended animation for the long voyage home, a
horrible little monster emerges from the victim's body -- it has been
growing in him, deposited there by the parasite... and now it is loose
on the ship.
A series of ghastly adventures follow. They trap it in an air shaft
and a man has to crawl down the shaft with a flamethrower -- it tears
a man's head off and runs away with his body -- a man is crushed in
the air lock door and the ship loses most of its air in a terrific
windstorm -- another man is burned to death and then eaten by the
creature -- and another is woven into a cocoon as part of the alien's
bizarre life cycle.
Finally there is only one man left alive, alone on the ship with the
creature, and only six hours till his air runs out; which leads to a
climax of horrifying, explosive jeopardy, the outcome of which
determines who will reach Earth alive -- man or alien.

Interesting to see the roots, but I'm glad the final film evolved from that. The origin of the ALIEN doesn't seem as suspenseful and mysterious in that write up as the final film.

What if it had this ending? :monkey4
Ridley Scott is reportedly quoted as saying that originally he wanted a much darker ending. He planned on having the alien bite off Ripley's head in the escape shuttle, sit in her chair, and then start speaking with her voice in a message to Earth. Apparently, 20th Century Fox wasn't too pleased with such a dark ending.
MaulFan

Wow, that ending would have sucked on so many levels. FOX made good decisions back in the day, what the hell happened to it :( I prefer the xenomorph to be intelligently primitive in it's behavior, the idea of it being able to communicate and all that kills what makes it unique and cool, and not having Ripley survive clearly would hurt the sequels.

Me too, I liked her character. Most of the deleted scenes had Veronica in them, including her "B-itch-off "with Ripley...
Hudson's Character in Aliens was also, in part, inspired by her doomsday rants...

Ok I was hestitant to ask this but it's well somewhat driving me crazy folks. The scene when the Alien was about to headbite Ripley in her space helmet. The alien's inner jaw was closed kind of like coming out slowly. Unlike when it killed Brett & Parker; the innner jaw opened inside the mouth then well you know the rest.
So my silly question is...what's up that? I :google I had to ask because I never understood that. Thanks..:duh

From a film perspective, using that image is a good way to make the scare of the moment stronger because everyone knows by that point what will follow if he gets her versus just standing there behind her, and since it's a quick shot and only meant for one last scare, I'm sure they just weren't paying attention. Also, it was 1979 so there could have been mechanical issues and even though they pushed the button or whatever, the mouth didn't open, but the take went right so they didn't chance a reshoot and have the jaw work but the take come out bad.
From a story perspective, similarly, I'd say the Alien was just using the jaw as a scare tactic like animals use anatomy to scare off enemies and frighten prey.

Maybe the alien didn't really want to kill her.
There was a sexual undercurrent to Alien. And when the alien is in the Narcissus and Ripley hides in the "closet", it shows its tongue in a very meaningful way... or maybe I'm a pervert! LOL!

Ya, it does almost have come off like the ALIEN is getting a boner from Ripley, and it does kinda feel up Lambert with it's tail. Definitely some strong sexual overtones to it, but it seemed like they not only went to Giger for the look but also to sort of map out how it works when he designed the look and knowing him, the results are some innuendo in the film.
abake
04-09-2008, 04:54 PM
Also, it's not noticeable in the movie, but during filming the alien had the tail attached to the front and not the back (in some scenes).
And the alien was an equal opportunity sex offender, because the tail was between Brett's legs originally (you can still see its his sneakers and not Lambert's boots).
I can't remember where I read/heard it, but in some interview one of the cast (probably Weaver) was discussing the fact that the alien had Kane's instincts and drives, i.e. those of a man, so maybe it had a kind of sexual urge. It just didn't know how to go about it.
See, that's the kind of undercurrent that got completely lost with Cameron's sequel...
The alien was so much creepier in the first movie.
It was truly an abomination.
MaulFan
04-09-2008, 05:04 PM
Here's the way I break down the Alien films in terms of their feel and tones.
ALIEN - Horror in a sci-fi context
ALIENS - War movie in a sci-fi context
ALIEN 3, A:R, AVP, AVPR - Sci-fi creature films
I'm ok with what Cameron did becaus I don't think he altered what the Alien was, at least nowhere near the extent of A3 on, but his film was more about the human characters and the focus was on how they handled themselves in the situation and the Aliens were more of a circumstance than a cast member whereas Ridley's film focused on the presence of the Alien and the suspense of having a dangerous being you know nothing about and having no idea where it is in the ship. As much as there are good human characters in Alien, I feel like the film's focus is the creature and the suspense of all the unknowns. You've got 2 key things in a film, characters and circumstances, ALIEN is about circumstances, ALIENS is about characters.
