How about we just let threads grow organically. If someone wants to start a thread about modifications to the HT Aliens, that should be a new thread, not shoehorned into a dedicated ALIENS thread.
We want to avoid monster threads - that's the whole point of creating the new forum.

We can split them up for general discussion and specific topics can be started as well.

Now that we have a dedicated 'Aliens' thread, allow me to kick things off with...
First of all my apologies that my crappy 3.5 megapixel camera doesn't take the best pictures to do Les' immaculate work justice but I blew my wad on this stuff and it was worth every penny spent.

"All right...lookin' good. Drake, check your camera. There seems to be something wrong with the autofocus... [ !*#@&%*!] That's better...."
Just kidding Dek! Great to see some of your marines revealed at last, and sporting FML brushwork no less. Especially like this shot of Drake and Vas. Drake looks like he's ready to open a whole can o' whup ass. That expression of his face and the tilt of his head is priceless. If I may make a suggestion, strap the Kabar on Drake's lower left leg, then get Hicks a Gerber Mk. II from Chris at EVA and tape it to his left grenade harness. Get two of 'em and give the other one to Hudson. I gave Drake a Kabar instead of a "boot knife", it just suits him better. I think you'll appreciate the difference it makes.
Btw, if your camera has manual focus you could probably fix the distance to the subject so everything will stay in focus, or try using a tripod and choose a smaller f-stop (shutter aperture) to increase depth of field. Sometimes going to manual is the best way to get what you want. :D
Best Alien Movie Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rock

Hi all :)
Im a new member of the board though I have been reading the awesome Wor-Gor Aliens thread for the past month or so.
I recieved my cool EVA Hudson headsculpt today so I thought Id show some pics of my work-in-progress Hudson. I figured it was worth taking some pics with the unpainted headsculpt on the figure just to give an idea of how they look together.

I am abit intimidated by the prospect of painting the HS as I have never done so before and Im afraid I'l ruin it so any advice you have would be much appreciated :) Apart for painting the head I have a few minor details to add to the body then it will be all done hopefully. This is my first and only 1/6 figure (so far) and its really got me excited about collecting and customising. Hot Toys have done a great job with these but its still nice to add your own personal touch :) The old Aliens thread is such a wealth of information and excellent reference material and I enjoyed trawling through it for tips on making my figure more accurate, so thanks guys for making it such a succesfull thread.

Cool beans! Welcome to the wonderful world of 1/6 figure customizing! It is as much a pain in the butt, as it is the most fun thing you can ever do with a toy! Good luck on that figure, and I do paint heads, for a short time that is, and can at least give you some pointers if nothing else.
There are reference pics galore here, and DekDave (the resident framegrab expert) or Pjam (the resident Aliens details guy) or any of the other enthusiasts, you have no doubt read by now, can and will assist you if need be. Just ask. This is a great area here. A lot of seasoned enthusiasts with a LOT of knowledge are at your fingertips.
Glad to have you aboard. :D

Hey, welcome aboard "STENDEC"! I am fairly new here too. I got that same custom Hudson head that you got, and I've started to paint it. I'm getting in my HT Hudson, and Drake in the mail tomorrow. I'm really trying to capture Hudson's panic and fear in the expression on his face while I'm painting it. I know some other customizers out there have got a different head for their Hudsons with a more calm expression on his face. I prefer the one we got from Chris C. at EVA. I'll post some pictures soon on this thread. Like you, I've trolled through the ALIENS threads for painting tips. I'm no expert either, but have got lots of help from figuremasterles, and pjam to name a few members out there that have helped me. I'd love to see your Hudson's painted head when he's done STENDEC. Take care, and "stay frosty"!

First of all...
:welcome
...and wow! I see you've added lots of little details that were on his costume in the film. Great job so far! I also got a Hudson head from EVA for an alternate expression (looks like he's about ready to bust a gut...cracks me up every time I look at him). I have a suggestion: if you haven't already done so, you might want to fill in the back of his head with some putty and resculpt the hair. His head is a little too concave in the back. Might not show with the helmet on, tho. Just an idea. Looking forward to seeing more pics. :D

Those of you who have customized their HT Ripley figures and put a leather jacket on her over her blue jumpsuit....where did you get the jacket? I want to get one for my Ripley. Let me know if you found one on a certain website. Yes, I will troll some sites like www.monkeydepot.com for example. But any help in finding a leather jacket for Ripley would be great. Thanks!

Wow . . .thanks for the warm welcome guys, its great to be here :)
I am really excited since I got into this hobby and I have really enjoyed customising my Hudson figure. So far its been easy but I am really nervous about painting my EVA HS lol I agree Jedi, the EVA is the coolset Hudson HS out there at the moment with his nervous expression. Id love to see pics of your ptogress on your figure. We should share ideas and techniques on the best way to tackle the painting on it :)
Les, you truely are the master as I have been blown away by your work shown in the Wor-Gar thread.
Can I ask for some basic tips on HS painting as I really am totally new to it and somewhat intimidated lol Do you have a tutorial online from an old thread perhaps?
My main querry is regarding the best type of paint to use on a resin HS. Im a bit unsure which type of paint is best to use, acrylic versus enamels and techiniques for thinning, applying washes and shading etc. Having used enamels in the past, they seem a little harsh and unforigving for a headsculpt but of course I may be completely wrong lol Are the acrylic paint you use the ones which come in the toothpaste like tubes or in bottles. I always assumed the tuibes were more for canvas painting.
From my research it seems some good practices are; washing the HS; applying grey/white primer; using the best brushes possible to apply paint; using pastels to apply shading then seal with dullcoat etc On the OneSixthWarriors forum alot of very nice paintjobs have been shaded with pastels, ground to a powder and lightly applied with a brush. Do you guys use these techniques? Im sorry for all the questions but Im eager to do the best job possible on my Hudson :) any any input you guys have would be much appreciated.
A little side project I have going on at the moment is a 1:6 Remote Sentry Unit (maybe 2 :) ) which I thought would look cool along side my Hudson, plus one more Marine hopefully. Heres a pic of a card mockup I made to figure out scale and how to assemble the real thing.

I'm pretty sure most of the Ripleys you've seen on this thread are wearing A-2 Flight Jackets, as she did in Aliens. You can score one at Monkey Depot for a cool $7.95. It's listed as... Jacket: Dragon A-2 Flight Leatherlike. Part #D3296-W058. I just snagged one the other day, so chances are they're still in stock. Hope this helps. :D

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who wants a Robot Sentry companion!
I remember a discussion on this thread several months ago about how cool it would be if HT made some accessory sets for the USCMs. One of the things I suggested was a 1:6 scale UA 571-C Remote Sentry Weapon System. They only appeared in the special edition of Aliens but they would most definitely be a cool accessory to have. I've been hunting for some plans that could be used to possibly design and fabricate a precision resin kit, something like the ones EVA has. If it could be done I'll bet others would be interested too. :D

I always thought the Sentry Guns were bad**s and one of the coolest things in the movie. As USCM hardware goes, a 1:6 scale Dropship or APC would still be colossal so the Sentry Guns was an easy decision.
Man it would be awesome if Hot Toys made a Sentry Gun kit, no doubt they'd do a fantastic job of accurately replicating them. Realitically though I doubt they'l bother so I decided to have a go myself. Hell, if I do finish this project and Hot Toys suddenly announces the guns for release, I'd still buy them :) As you said Mudshark, I think they'd be hugely popular with those who have already bought some of the 1st and 2nd wave Marines.
Hey thats cool PJAM, Chris is a great guy and a pleasure to do business with, plus his stuff is of really good quality. The idea of creating a resin kit is great but I'l be making mine from rudamentary materials like a block of wood, sheet styrene and some metal tubing. The gun will be able to rotate on the X axis but that about it as I am not experienced at scratchbuiling at all and my main objective is for it to look cool and not be too functional.
I have scoured the internet for plans of the guns but have turned up nothing. There arent even any schematics in the USCM Techinal Journal therefore I relied on screencaps and photos taken of a gun at a convention. My mockup isnt a 100% by a long shot but its as close as I care to get it.
Once I get going on the real deal I'l post some updates :) just need to get all the material together.

ALIENS is one of the most influential films ever.
It brought the "hard science" genre to the forefront and cemented a female as a strong action lead (though Scott kicked it off with ALIEN,Cameron solidified Ripley as an action hero) as well as building some famous pop culture quotes and scenes and creating the foundation for the "ALIEN universe" as everyone likes to remember it (USCM,Weyland-Yutani,etc.).
Cheers to ALIENS,James Cameron and all the cast and crew! :rock
I can only hope and pray that Cameron does another sequel down the road!

Thanks "Mudshark" for the tip on the A-2 leather jacket for my Ripley! I'll go to monkeydepot.com soon and order one. I like that $7.95 price much better than having to get a McLeod figure. I want that McLeod figure, but don't want to have to give his jacket to Ripley. I'd rather leave it with him. Here's a few pictures of my "work in progess" custom Hudson head (the mold from Chris at EVA), and Hicks (the "Hero Heads" mold from Lonnie Hale). I'd appreciate any painting tips and suggestions from a master painter like "figuremasterles"! Sorry about the "zombie Hicks"! I don't have any blue paint yet for his eyes. Michael Biehn does have blue eyes doesn't he? How about Bill Paxton? I recall his eyes being brown, or maybe a dark green? What colors for their eyes do you suggest "figuremasterles" and "pjam"and anyone else out there?

Please be easy guys! I'm no painting expert at all. Since first writing this post, I've already painted over Hicks's "five o' clock" shade, and given him a more clean-shaven look. I'll go in later and do some light shadowing on his beard area. I am trying my best to do a good job that I'll be proud displaying these figures side by side with my other marines. Thanks!
By the way, I loved reading the novel for ALIENS before I saw the movie. I read through it in a few days. I noticed I remember scenes in the novel that weren't in the movie such as: Newt and her family discovering the alien derelict ship, and Newt's Dad coming back with the facehugger on his head, the populated LV-426 processor station before the aliens attacked, and the bad*ss sentry guns! I loved those too! I was very disappointed they weren't in the movie when I saw it. But I'm thrilled that they're back in the special edition of ALIENS, along with all of the other "cut" scenes. I have the awesome Alien Quadrilogy DVD box set. Every ALIENS fan should have it!
I would definitely buy a sentry gun kit if Hot Toys made one! Maybe they will. We'll see...

I know the HT head on Hudson really looks more like Hicks, than it does Hudson. Has anyone thought of using it for their own custom Hicks? I guess it makes a good...maybe...fourth place candidate for Hicks's head behind the "Stoner" head, the "Hero Head" (the one I have), and the other one I've seen used by some board members but I can't remember the name of it. Sorry. I think if you lightened the hair color, and repainted the eyes blue like Hicks's eyes, it would work out pretty decently. What do you think guys?
I just thought about this after getting my Hudson in today and looking closely at the head.

Uh... I hate to be the one to tell ya this, but I'm afraid you very well may be the only one! In all fairness, though, the resemblance becomes most apparent in the repainting of either of those heads. And they really do look more like Hicks than anything else out there, as far as I've seen up till now, anyway. :monkey3
Btw, your suggestion of using pastels for the 5 o'clock shadow, grit and grime, etc. is an excellent one. It's much easier to get it "just right" than it is to paint it that way, unless you've got tons of experience and/or patience, that is. And as you said, you can always wipe it off and start over if you don't like it! :D

If I may borrow a quote from the thread of the Figuremaster himself, this may be of interest regarding the Hicks head sculpt question...
As for the attention to the Hicks debate. That is interesting indeed. Mudshark, Use the Stoner. I like the Hudson head just fine, but if I had all three, I'd be making a 1984 Reese from the original Hicks head (That's exactly what I did!), a Hicks from the Stoner, and keep the Hudson in reserve. Use him if need be, as you can, I have three in progress right now, so I don't dislike the head at all, but if you have a usable Stoner!?!?!?!? Use it for Hicks! I used a camo faced one too! Makes no difference what the paint is, use him!
And, if nothing else, replace the Stoner, on the figure in question, with the Hudson head. Why not!
That's my two cents.
:D

The Hudson head is perfect for Hicks. And a Figuremaster repaint brings Michael Biehn to life.

That would be a neat item. Always wanted to but never got the dimensions down pat. I know a fellow in Australia that has a great start on one (1/6) but it's still a WIP. Does not look difficult. Maybe Hot Toys before too long?

Thanks "thundergod" for your painting tips. I'll try to get some pastel chalks soon. I have a Hobby Lobby nearby. Also thank you for your kind words about my custom Hudson and Hicks heads. I appreciate it! As for the Hicks head, I think I am going to put the "Hero Head" Hicks I got from Lonnie Hale on my Hicks (when I finally get a HT Hicks someday!). Yeah, the Stoner head looks great to me, and "dekadentdave", your repainted Hudson HT for Hicks looks incredible! Les's work is something to behold. But, I'm just going with the Hicks head I've been working on for about two weeks...off and on. I may use the Hudson HT head for another custom marine down the road, like maybe Weirzbowski (remember him?), I dunno. I think my Hudson head is almost there. I will use thundergod's suggestion and get some pastel chalks and do some shading and highlighting with them. I'll even go back and do that on my completed custom heads for Ripley and Sgt. Apone. I have painted over the goatee on the HT Apone head and I'll use that head for my custom Frost figure.
So should I paint Hicks's eyes blue? I will probably refer to the DVD of the movie sometime today and see if I can see his eye color and Hudson's eye color. Were Hudson's eyes brown or green? I'm repainting my Drake head now too, and he has blue eyes too doesn't he? I just wanna be sure guys that I get it right. Thanks. :D
I love Chris's stuff from EVA Models too! I'm getting some nice little extras for my customs from him soon like Hudson's "winged skull" bolo tie, some more of those great Gerber knives, and a belt tool, along with a sheet of his awesome fabric USCM patches. Keep up the great work Chris as always. VBR (Very Best Regards) my friend!

Les painted my Hicks' eyes kind of a greenish blue. It's pretty dead-on. Too bad my camera can't take really sharp close-ups to see the detail. Hope to fix that when I get more funds again.

Thanks!
QUOTE]
Nice job there Jedi!! Looking awesome so far. I agree though that some suttle shading would really bring it to life. How did you prep the HS (wash clean and prime?) and what paints did you use? I really need to take the plunge with my own HS and get cracking lol.
Wow, Les did a fantastic job on that Hudson head to make a really good likeness of Hicks (man Im getting confused now haha) The Hudson head really does make a fantastic Hicks when painted properly and If I was ever lucky enough to own a Hicks figure, that is the head Id use for sure.
dekadentdave
06-13-2007, 12:45 PM
For the 5 o'clock shadow just water down your paint really good, like coffee, and do a wash on his face and use your fingers to rub it in so it mixes with the skin tone.
And you don't really need the Hicks figure at all. Just get a Hudson and get the chest padlock from EVA and a shotgun and sheath. I'm lucky I have a Hicks but it baffles me to see people paying $300 + for this figure especially when he looks better with the repainted Hudson head. It's not that difficult to customize a Hicks.

Thanks dekadentdave. Yeah, I've talked to Chris at EVA about his Hicks stuff. I have a feeling that I"ll end up making my own Hicks from HT Hudson stuff out now. Chris said it would be a great idea if HT reissued Hicks. But who knows when and if, they ever will do that! I do agree that your idea of making a custom Hicks from an existing HT Hudson is a much more economical one. I'm thinking about doing that. Chris told me that his shotgun and sheath are a one piece mold so they can't be separated. I guess I can find a 1/6 scale shotgun like Hicks had somewhere on eBay. I was planning on getting the BDUs, helmet and armor from a Hudson, and using it for Hicks. What about the boots? Aren't Hudson's and Hicks's boots different in color and style? Let me know what boots you used for Hicks if you've made a custom of him.
Thanks for the "five o' clock" shadow painting tip. I'm going to get some paints today, and I'll look for that "coffee" color in acrylic paints. I gotta get some blue for Hicks and Drake for their eyes. Did you paint your Hicks's eyes blue? I like thundergod's idea of using pastel chalks for the shadowing and highlighting on custom heads since you can just rub it off if you don't like it.
Yeah, I agree with you too when I see buyers on eBay paying $300.00 or more for a Hot Toys Hicks. Sure I want the cool HT box for him too, but I can make a custom Hicks from a HT Hudson for much less than $300.00. The most I've put my maximum bid on a Hicks on eBay was about $150.00. That is where I stop.

I would definitely NOT do a paint wash for the beard shadow. Pastels are more subtle and forgiving. Less uniform too.
JediMike71
06-13-2007, 01:13 PM
Yeah, after the suggestions of pastels from you, and from thundergod, I think I'll wait until I get some of them before trying to do the light beard on my custom Hicks's head. Thanks. :D
dekadentdave
06-13-2007, 01:21 PM
By coffee I meant that the consistency of the paint should be watery like coffee but yeah, mix some brown paint with water.
I didn't paint the eyes, Les did. No way I could paint eyes as good as he can.
And the boots on Hicks are different than Hudson but it really doesn't matter. You can probably get some better Newline or DiD boots anyway.

To each his own, but especially for a beginner, the one that is more forgiving of a possible mistake is the right choice. My opinion anyway.

I see what you meant by the beard wash. I tried that earlier in my pictures I showed of my Hicks, but I think I overdid it with the wash. I've painted over that now, and I'll try to do it a little more like you guys had yours done. I won't make it as heavy looking this time. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip about the boots. I'll look for some on eBay, or maybe just get a set of Hudson's boots and maybe repaint them, I guess, for my Hicks.
Thanks for your opinion and tip customizerwannabe for using pastels. I still plan on using them for shading/shadowing and highlights on my custom heads. Thanks again!

Really though, you should just have Les repaint it for you. Believe me, it's worth spending the money to have him paint it. You will NOT be disappointed at all and you'll have it to enjoy for the rest of your life.
I have nothing against painting it yourself as experience is the great teacher but having it done by someone like Les with his amazing talent is truly a work of art to have in your collection. Think about it.

That's the attitude Jedimike ! The pride of customizing your own figures is a large part of what this hobby is all about . You will get better with each attempt and will do doubt learn or refine a new technique . ( And take it from me, there is nothing shabby about your work thus far ). I don't mean to take anything away from Les, as his work is the best I've seen in this area , but I'm pretty sure he'd agree with me when I say that people who are keen to learn and take an active role in a hobby should be encouraged, NOT discouraged . :emperor

While on the subject of seeking advice , I'm adding the DML "arm sleeves" to my Vasquez and am looking for some kind of material to "bulk out" the elbow areas where the sleeves "kink" and spoil the effect . I've tried cotton wool type stuff , but the sleeves are quite transluscent and allow the material to show through . I'm even considering trying to cast some kind of silicon or rubber type "muscle pieces" to fill out the arms . Anyone tried anything similar or have any other suggestions ?

Here's some updated pics of my custom Hudson and Drake heads. I gotta work on Hudson's eyes. Eyes are hard to do! I've been trying to paint them with the paint on the end of a toothpick (since I don't have a 00 tip brush), and it's tough. I put too much dark lines around Hudson's eyes. I'll fix that. I am very happy with how Drake turned out! I don't really think I need to change much, if anything on him. Your thoughts? I'd appreciate it....

Mike, I'd suggest repainting Drake's hair. He looks like Dennis Rodman! You might want to mix more of a taupe color and start with a darker base then lighten it by dry-brushing with lighter and lighter shades until you achieve Drake's light blonde hair but that yellow is just screaming Rodman to me.

Thanks for the great picture of Bill Paxton p@ck@r@ck! I'll use that as a reference for my Hudson head. I'll repaint his eyes blue and lighten up his eyebrows too. Thanks for the painting tips dekadentdave. Yeah, I thought that Drake's hair would dry to a lighter blonde color, but it's stayed at that "lemon yellow"! :monkey4 The last thing I want is for my Drake to look like frickin' Dennis Rodman! I'll work on Drake's hair some more tonight.
I'll use your tips to lighten up Drake's hair. I started by ligtening up the original red hair, and it ended up looking pink. So then, I got some yellow paint yesterday, and started with that with some white in it to lighten up the yellow color. I'll go even lighter with Drake's hair and do that paint mix you've told me about. Thanks again for your help! It's always appreciated.

Hi Paul,

I doubt HT will make these. You don't think so? I was hoping! ; ^)

She's an expert at making stuff like that and we have a good working relationship for many years now. There's a thought.

Thanks so much for all of those great Hudson screengrabs Dekadentdave! They will help me out so much in detailing my Hudson's helmet as close as I can get it to how it was in the movie. I clearly see the "8 ball" on the back left side of his helmet. I can't make out that grid on the front-left side of his helmet? Could it be a countown calendar until they got retrieval from fellow USCMs? I dunno. I just can't clearly make it out. What do you think Dekadentdave? Preferably some scenes from when they were in the messhall on the Sulaco before they headed out to LV-426. I can't get the paintjob right on my HT Drake's hair! It was a bright yellow, and I've since toned down the color, but it still doesn't quite look like the light blonde color he had in the movie. I'd appreciate it, if you would post a few screengrabs of Drake, and maybe one or two of Vasquez so I can get her hair and eye makeup correct when I get my HT Vasquez in the mail possibly tomorrow, or Monday. Thanks again SO much for all of the pictures Dekadentdave! I've saved them all to my PC for painting reference. Thanks too for those pics of your helmet as painted by Les. I will paint mine the same way. I wonder why Les painted it on the helmet, instead of the helmet cover like Hudson had in the movie? I guess it is easier painting it on the helmet instead of the cover? I am not sure if I should try to paint it on the helmet cover, or just write it on with a permanent "Sharpie" marker. The marker may work easier than a paint brush on the helmet cover.
Can you make out what that square block/grid thing is on Hudson's helmet on the left front side? I can't tell what it is. Let me know if you can read it.
Could you share with me how you do your DVD screengrabs? I'm interested in trying it myself. If you want to PM me about it, that's cool. Thanks again for all of the great pictures! :D

Personally I think the helmet cover sucks. The camo pattern is the wrong colorshade. Looks much better without. The grid appears to be some kind of calender with the days crossed out in boxes with "Short Timer" written above and "Game Over" written below probably in reference to Hudson's line "I was getting short... four more weeks and out."
Incidentally the "Brain Dead" is the name of a horror movie Bill Paxton was later in AFTER Aliens in 1990. Premonition? Scary!
JediMike71
06-16-2007, 03:22 AM
Okay I see. Don't like the helmet cover huh? That's cool. I don't know if I'll still paint or write Hudson's stuff on the cover or the helmet itself. Yeah, it's kinda weird, but cool how the ALIENS cast keeps having reunions in movies they did after ALIENS.
Let's see, so Bill Paxton made a movie called "Brain Dead" after ALIENS, and put that on his helmet. Yeah, that's a strage premonition for sure!
Bill Paxton, Lance Henricksen, and Jeanette Goldstein starred in a small horror movie called "Near Dark" after ALIENS where they played a trio of vampires.
Of course, Bill Paxton later starred in Predator 2, and has the rare distinction of being in both an ALIEN and Predator movie, and being killed by both monsters.
Mark Rolston and Jeanette Goldstein had small parts in Lethal Weapon 2. Mark was driving the car at the beginning of the movie running away from Riggs and Murtaugh. Jeanette was a fellow cop of Riggs's that was killed off when a bomb went off under her diving board as she jumed into a swimming pool.
Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn co-starred in Navy SEALS with Charlie Sheen as fellow SEAL team members.
Wow...I love this stuff. It's so cool how these great actors I've come to know and love over the years keep popping up in movies together! :D

It's always fun to see Wild Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, and other Aliens/Predator cast members in other flicks. Too bad "Navy SEALS" was such a disappointment. Typical Hollywood action movie fare with very little in the way of authenticity, but having BP and MB saved it from being a complete letdown... for me, at least.
Here's a peek at the Drake resculpt I've been working on for the past couple of months. I'm almost satisfied with the look I was trying to achieve, thanks to Dek's screengrabs. He's still a work in progress at the moment and these pics aren't the best I can do, but I think it's an imrovement on the original HT head sculpt. JediMike, Id still use the helmet cover if I were you because it doesn't take alot of work to get it looking more accurate.
I mixed some brown and green paint together and after thinning it down a little I applied it to the helmet cover. The colour will become darker but If you have thinnned down the paint enough, the camo pattern should still come through.
To draw the calander, I first covered the front left area of the cover (while its on the helmet) with clear sticky tape then practiced applying the grid with a permanent marker. If it doensn't look right, rip off the tape, apply some fresh tape and try again :)
When you are happy with it you can use this as a guide for drawing onto the camo cover. If you're using a marker, make sure its fine point and dont apply much pressure whilst drawing. This will give a thinnner line and the ink wont bleed so much.
Heres a pic of how mine turned out (sorry its so blurry). Sadly I popped the seem on my cover right where the calander goes so it ruined the look alittle. Still I have a spare cover so I'l probably give it another go.

Nic ejob on the Drake sculpt Mudshark. Is it a rework of the HT head or sculpted form scratch?

Yeah, use the helmet cover. Doesn't look right repainting the helmet instead of the cover. DA did a fine job on Hudson's helmet cover repaint.

I know it does, and I was gonna just repaint him and leave it at that. Then after I saw the screengrabs you posted a while back (the one above mainly) I started thinking it might be fun to add the sneer and see if I could make it look just a little more like Drake in the pics. It's basically just a refinement of details that were pretty much already there, not major surgery! I guess it won't really show until he's repainted, and it won't be a huge difference in any case, but it has given me something to look forward to when I get home after another exhausting day of work, for the most part. It really helped!
I mainly wanted to try out some new materials. I used a liquid putty directly on the original vinyl Drake sculpt and I wanted to see how well it worked. I'm pretty satisfied with the stuff and I know it'll work on vinyl as well as resin now. :D

For what it's worth, the real helmet covers only had one seam, running front to back, not two like the HT cover. I also think the helmet looks good with all the grafitti painted directly on the plastic. Guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

Well, I'll give it a try painting or writing Hudson's designs on his helmet and the helmet cover. That way I can have it on both of them. If I feel like taking off the cover, I can, and the designs will be there on the helmet too. :D
Sweet! I got in my Frank Black X-Files/Milennium Sideshow 12" figure today in the mail. I'll repaint his hair black like Bishop had in the movie. I've got a dark blue jumpsuit and white sneakes on the way for my custom Bishop. Here's the eBay link for the Frank Black I won on eBay:

I received the Medicom jumpsuit today for my Bishop and it's pretty close in style and colour, BUT it's about 2cm short in the legs! I had been warned it might be a little small but I thought I could work something out . Unfortunately , my only option is to swap the head onto a smaller body , which I fear will accentuate the SST "melon-head" . Doh! ( I was cheered up though when I dropped on a H.T Ancient Predator "Special Version" in a store while on a family shopping trip ). Whoo-Hoo!:D

Hey thundergod. Someone on this board recommended using the shorter, Dragon "Pietr" body for a custom Bishop. I think is was pjam who used that body for his custom Bishop. I am using a different flight suit, it's not a perfect match to Bishop's but close enough for me. I won in this eBay auction here at this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320089512661&rd=1&rd=1
It's made by Dragon, so I'm hoping it will fit the Sideshow Frank Black body. I really don't want to have to buy another body for him. I was just planning on using his Sideshow body. I have already painted Frank Black's hair black now, and put white on the eyes, because Sideshow did a weird job of painting the eyes looking down and to the right. I didn't like the way it looked.
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z104/JediMike71/FrankBlackcloseup1.jpg
I also got these white sneakers from the same seller I got the flight suit from. I'll take off the patch of course, and put on one of the nice USCM patches I'm getting from Chris at EVA Models. Here's the link to the white sneakers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320103470377&rd=1&rd=1
I hope to paint the sneakers just like Bishop's in the movie. I have one picture of pjam's Bishop with his painted sneakers. Very cool! I still would love to see more pictures of your Bishop when you get it back pjam! Especially his shoes and the paintjob you did on them. Thanks!
I hope you're able to get your Bishop together thundergod. Mine is about to come together really soon. I'm getting a full-bladed molded Gerber knife for Bishop to hold from Chris at EVA. I also hope to get a laptop for Bishop to carry like he did in the movie for a little while.
Good luck! :D

What Medicom jumpsuit are you using for your custom Bishop thundergod? I am using a Hot Toys GIGN Operator 1/6; Navy Blue Suit BDU Uniform. It is a dark navy blue...almost looks black. There are some snaps near Bishop's neck along the front left side I may take off of it. The sleeves have velcro fasteners at the wrists, so I push the sleeves almost up to Bishop's elbows. Yeah, the jumpsuit is not totally 100% accurate to his from the movie, but it'll do for me. According to Harry Harris's website Bishop's jumpsuit was apparently custom made for ALIENS using a material almost similar to blue jeans denim! Here's some pictures of my Bishop so far. I still have to paint his shoes as close as I can get to the custom made Reebok sneakers he wore in the movie. I may try to get some white high tops on eBay, and see if they work better for my Bishop. I've noticed using the Sideshow Frank Black body, that my jumpsuit is about 1/2" short of the top of the shoes. If I get some high-top shoes the jumpsuit should almost reach the top of the shoes I guess. Anyways, here's some pictures of my custom Bishop:

Thanks, I agree with you Dave after looking at the sneakers for Bishop at this link at Harry Harris's website:

They look just like Ripley's "boots" except they are not as tall as hers, and look more like hi-top basketball sneakers. I'll troll eBay for a loose pair of Ripley's boots, and cut off the tops of them for my Bishop. Thanks for the tip!
Yep, those are Bishop's shoes, that's the ref shot I used. I custom made mine from Connor Nike's but an alternative is getting a pair of HT Rip shoes and cutting off the top of them...

And yes, get a smaller body, I used a Dragon Pietr but you can also use a SS Oz Reg...

Yes, Dragon Pietr is smaller. SS has Buffy Oz which is also smaller and will also work better with a SS head but a SS head fits onto a Dragon too (just need to clip nub off )

The suit was listed as a "GSG-9 " Jumpsuit . I've checked and unfortunately they don't seem to have any in stock . I'll have to look out for the smaller body , as I've posted before though , what I'm afraid of is the head looking EXTRA large . It's not the smallest to start with , already it's too big to display directly in comparison with the other crew ( my display arrangements make this not too big a problem ) but I'd hate it to look ridiculously "melon-headed" ! I'm looking into replacing the legs of the suit as there seems to be well placed seams which could be utilized . The problem is two-fold though , I'm inexperienced with a needle and thread (in this scale) and I've just become a Dad for the second time , so my 1/6 time is very limited at the moment ! The whole "Bishop Project" was meant to be a "quick bash" . But isn't that always the case , my first custom was a Predator "Dutch" and it took bloody months to find a suitable vest! (It's still not right , by the way ).

Ok guys, I have a real dillema at the moment and need your advice.
I emailed a seller on ebay who has the new Aliens Warrior figure for auction and he confirmed that these figures have been released and are in stock. :chew :chew
Now my problem is that I might also have tracked down a Hicks figure for sale but there is no way I can afford both at the moment :( I need at least of of them because my Hudson is looking very lonely at the moment lol
So which one shoould I go for? I am leaning towards the Alien because Hudson needs a bug to frag and at 16" tall it Im sure it would make an awesome display piece. However, I havent yet seen pictues of the production version, plus Hicks is very rare and the price on him is pretty good.

If you don't want to get the Hicks Stendec, could you please let me know the eBay link to it, or any other link where to find it? That is if you choose to get the alien warrior over getting Hicks. But, honestly, I'd get Hicks in a heartbeat! As far as I know he is now discontinued, or not being produced by Hot Toys anymore. But, yeah, if you choose not to get him please let me know where you found him! He's getting harder and harder to find anywhere!

Well, I checked some sites here in Japan, including the almighty Blister Direct, and they all still have the Aliens Warrior up for preorder. So it must have only been released in Hong Kong. That means it'll be here pretty soon, tho. I know you won't be ordering from Japan, but their preorder price is quite a bit cheaper than the after-release price. I've already got a couple on order here, and I won't have to pay any stinkin' international shipping! Heheh. So Toys2 ought to have 'em up soon, if they haven't already. Hope this helped ya some. :D

Hot Toys usually announces when a new product has begun shipping on their website and the last one they announced was Rambo III and Captain Jack.
I'm skeptical, not a preponderance of evidence here. If we don't see some Asian site pics popping up soon or other dealers listing this as an In stock item, I'm assuming he was selling the AVP and had the wrong pic posted on the listing...
But then why say "Now In Stock" and confirm it? Who knows...

Well, with shipping, there's only a $10 difference for me between Toys2 and SSC so if Toys2 gets it and it doesn't look like SSC will anytime soon like the T1 Endo, I'll probably order from Toys2. This is the one Alien I could ever really want them to make and I've been very anxious since it was announced. Alien warrior is classic, but I've always taken a liking to the domeless head and all the intricate detail that's there.
If that is the case then I would call T2, they usually get their stuff about a week or two after it is released in Asia...

Sideshow doesn't offer everything HT, a great deal of it, but not everything, and at least, not for some time after others, ie Rocky months after Toys2 sold out the first run and a month after they were well into their second run, and the HT Endo shipping from Toys2 with SSC yet to get theirs. If SSC were the main disti, I'd think they'd get the stuff much sooner.

Amen brotha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SSC has a Distribution agreement with HT, they are not the Official HT N. American Dist... T2 basically gets all the new Stuff released in Asia. SSC gets second run items and sometimes later first run such as the Aliens series 2 Marines...
In this case I think SSC will get the Warriors in a later first run, like a couple months later instead of 6 months later

I am currently on a money crunch(saving for vacation and incoming items), so I will probably have to wait til SS gets them instock.
Oh well.

I've been checking sites in Japan, but maybe someone ought to be checking the Hong Kong shops for some pics. I believe Blister Direct is one of the biggest, if not main distributor of HT figs in Japan, so when they get 'em, so will everyone else... including ME...heheheh Still waiting, tho...

Awesome news MF, I knew T2 would be getting them soon, but Friday, that's insane, you should have this thing in hand next week. How cool is that?
And I can't think of anyone better to be the first SSF to show this off. :D If we don't have many pics by then from other boards please take some shots of the packaging, fig in box, etc. too.

Oh he'll most certainly get the full photo treatment. In fact, I'm going to work more on the figure backdrop for you guys tonight and once the warrior comes, I'll have them "coming out of the walls man."

Cool dude, I look forward to see your photos of the Aliens Warrior. Id love to see the diorama your working on too, been thinking of making one myself too :)
I wont be buying the Aliens Warrior for a while now since I went for the Hicks figure instead. The replacement heads I will be getting for my marines will have blown my budget for the next few months lol

It's actually not a diorama, just a high resolution picture that can be printed and put up behind the figures. When it's done, I'll have single page sized files so people can build it. I'm hopefully going to have a Hicks in the not too distant future, which will be nice to have a him to go on a bug hunt.

And I'm seriously interested in some of your high res screens, too. Especially now that the BUGS are on the way, and hopefully before the end of the year... the Robot Sentries!!!

OK gang, looking for feedback on this, but as far as my ideas to create this thing, this is the Aliens Backdrop completed, the actual file is 36 inches wide by 18 inches tall. If this looks good to people I'll make the printable files available so you guys can make it.

Any idea when Sideshow will get theres in?

Wow, Maulfan I love that backdrop concept! It would work out perfectly as a backdrop behind some custom shelves that Cocoboloboy is going to make fom my Hot Toys marines! You got my feedback, a "thumbs-up" from me! I look forward to seeing the printable ones. I know I'll be downloading them to complement my marines! :D
By the way guys one of the Cinemax channels is showing ALIENS now. It's the theatrical cut, and in full-screen, but I don't care. I'm watching it as I type this. I just couldn't help it!

Anyone have an idea of what figure I should use to make a custom Newt to go with Ripley? Figuremasterles made a great one, of course. But I don't recall what existing child Barbie-type of figure he used? Anyone have any ideas for a figure that's about the age Newt was? I am guessing around the age of my daughter, about 7 or 8 years-old. Any help guys would be great! I appreciate it! Hot Toys should have made a Newt boxed up with Ripley. Man, that woulda been so nice! Thanks guys! :D

I was curious about this. On the front of Vasquez's chest armor it reads "El Riesgo Siempre Vive". I don't know Spanish, and was wondering what that meant in English. Anyone out there know Spanish, and can tell me? Let me know. Thanks!

Maulfan, that backdrop looks cool and a really great size!
If you dont mind some constructive criticism, Id suggest breaking up the symmetry of the image because it seems you mirrored one side onto the other.

I am very impressed by the new Alien figure, it looks awesome!!
At 16 inches tall it must lllok very impressive in perosn. The paint job is very nice too, I love the highlighting of the detail.
Has it changed at all from the prototype version and is it any more accurate?
Peronally I dont know much about the intricate details of the costume and how they differed in each movie. All I can say is that it looks like the Aliens warrior and thats all I care about . .cant wait to get one someday.
Batty Rocks. All the time. Thanks bro...

I have the AVP warrior, that's my only 1/6 Alien figure from HT, but this one looks like everything I could want it to be, and I don't know if it's the camera doing it, but it looks glossy, which the AVP isn't, which'll be cool if they have that affect to it so it can look slimy as it should.

Pjam, what's your Alien Warrior of preference, Aliens or Alien?
And since you were the one that got the ball rolling, what are your thoughts on the tentatively final backdrop design?
Pjam, what's your Alien Warrior of preference, Aliens or Alien?
I love them both really, the Alien Warrior is simply Iconic, the original Geiger Design; haunting, sleek, menacing... "I Admire it's purity" ... and I would kill for one too Ash.
But the Aliens Warriors were distinctive as well... and moved in groups plus I have the Marines ready for him...
So, give me both!
And Maulfan, let me say that image is breathtkaking and I applaud your efforts.
This, I believe is based on the EXT. wide shot of the Marines as they first entered. In fact it is the Only shot of the Marines used before Biehn arrived on set, James Remar is actually in that shot. Cameron used a prop overhanging the lens to give the overhead effect and it was the very first Image he presented to the Studio Execs...
You may remember I commented on this issue quite a bit at the time we were discussing which images to use. I thought we were going with a SL3 image mix.
I always preferred a Sub Level 3 image with Industrial touches, inside the chamber as it were, if we can cull one together. My reasons are simply, it's because that is where the Aliens were and it is more appropriate for backdrop poses.
