You seem to be unbeatable, Mr. Bond. :D

Looks terrific W-G! I would swap out the black tie for a narrower tie, but other than that it can't be beat.

Is the Connery on a Sideshow body? I think it would benefit a lot from a change of body, wor-gar!

Otherwise brilliant figures.

12-20-2009, 10:32 AM
Thanks guys! Been wanting to display these two for a long time.

I do need to replace the shirt and tie, the layers (shirt, vest and jacket) tend to budge up and Connery loses his neck line. But this is also a pre-futzed pic really. No water treatment or anything. Just threw the suit on more or less. So once I get a thinner tie and smaller collared shirt hopefully I can get the suit to lay a litle better. But you get the idea.

Is the Connery on a Sideshow body? I think it would benefit a lot from a change of body, wor-gar!

Definitely agree, but I tried an HT body and unfortunately I needed more height to match Goldfinger so I had to use the Buck. Once I get this guy futzed properly it should work.

Put goldfinger on a truetype as well! :lol nah just kiddin'

Great job wor-gar.

As a little note of my own I finished my Daniel Craig Bond yesterday.

It's basically the TTL gestapo figure minus the tie. (And of course the hat and coat)

I got a bow tie off e-bay. It was blue but I coloured it in with some black permanent marker and it worked a treat. Gotta love it when a plan comes together! :D

Never thought of water treating it until you mentioned it wor-gar.

Now, James Bond will return with.... LARGO.

Hey all... Im new here, and have often admired the Bond line from afar.

Thanks to a very generous present from my wife (A set of all the movies) I've really stepped up a gear in my appreciation of the line....so heres my problem, and Id like to knew what you all think about it.....

Id like to try and pick up a smattering of the SSC figures, perhaps a couple of Bonds and Their respective villains...... But I am on quite a restictive budget at the moment.... am I kidding myself that I will be able to find anything for a reasonable price?

Hey mate

No, not really. I think good prices are to be found on e-bay for some of the sideshow bond figures

They certainly aren't as expensive as Hot Toys figures new or 2nd hand.

Try looking on e-bay, I think you may be suprised!

Lazenby

Yeah the core figures pop up from time to time at good prices. The more obscure figures, like Q or Jaws not so much.

Hey Wor-Gar, I have question. The SS Goldfinger Connery head. How did you get it on a True Type? I would think that wouldn't be possible.

Hey Wor-Gar, I have question. The SS Goldfinger Connery head. How did you get it on a True Type? I would think that wouldn't be possible.

I placed the head in hot water and then pulled out the Sideshow neck adaptor. After painting I superglued a Hot Toys neck adaptor to the Bond head. Job done.

Cool Bonds!

Hey Wor-Gar, I have question. The SS Goldfinger Connery head. How did you get it on a True Type? I would think that wouldn't be possible.

I actually didn't put it on a TT, it's on a Buck. But Tyler is correct in how to do it.

I stuck with Buck because of a height issue with the Goldfinger body. But putting a SS head on a TT is fairly easy. You just need the Dragon connector that comes with most TTs and pop the SS sculpt on that and apply.

I was in this same position a year ago. I was big into Bond as a teenager but apart from some Corgi vehicles didn't really collect. This was in 1980-81 and there wasn't much to collect. I saw posts of peoples Sideshow Bond collections (Darth Neil) but thought I was too late. I would look at his collection and think that was the coolest thing and why didn't I buy them when i saw them at Suncoast in 2002.

I watched ebay and pulled the trigger on a Connery Goldfinger. It hit me like a train! Next came Jaws and a Dalton Licence to Kill followed by Dr. No and Scaramanga. Then, of course, I HAD to get a Roger Moore. And Blofield. And ????? Galore. Anyway, I just got my 24th Bond figure (TTL Gestapo/Craig) for Christmas.

Be patient and keep watching. The Bonds are among my very favorites and one of these days I'll learn how to use a digital camera and take/post some pictures.

Good luck and happy hunting!:whip

The SS Bonds really have killer likenesses, among their best. Of course realism and obviously paint is not up to todays standards. When Les is done with mine I know I will like them a lot better, in the mean time i keep updating and upgrading their bodies/outfits to get them up to todays standards.

My savings account is a little lighter but it was worth it. I love looking at my shelf and seeing all the Bonds. It brought back a lot of fun memories of waiting for the ABC Sunday night movie--that time before DVD's and VHS--and the anticipation of the gun barrel darting across the screen.

Anyway, I really appreciate all the Bond posts and pictures. Fingers crossed that somebody will pick up the license and we'll get some different 1/6 figures or those 7" figures previewed a couple years back. It sounds like Bond 23 has a director (Sam Mendes) and things should start rolling along toward 2011!:whip

It is believed that they were doing one from Casino Royal and the sculpt was rejected. I don't know if Daniel nixed it or somebody else along the way.

MGM has been notoriously pickey about the Bond likenesses which is great because even in SS's inferior incarnation a few years ago those likenesses and sculpts still hold up today.

I may be scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one, but I just discovered that Barbie -- yes, Barbie -- has been doing a line of Bond Girls. Most are whats to be expected, but I thought the new Solitaire wasn't so bad really. Might be nice to round out the few of us who have Moore and Tee Hee...

I'm really surprised that with the success of the Craig movies, and the 3rd on the way, nobody's picking up this license.

Not sure. Maybe the majority of those who like the new Bond really don't collect the figures.

Also, the last movie had a pitiful villain and the only girl I remember was the sexy red head in her small part. So not much there beyond Bond himself to exploit.

If they could give us a really great villain and a really hot girl to compliment Craig's great Bond, then we'd have a really big Bond movie.

Seeee there is your mistake. Everything you mention is what Bond is all about.

When I watch a bond movie, I want to suspend any notion of reality and watch a popcorn flick about cool gadgets, ridiculous villains, sick cars, and hot girls... What exactly are you watching for?

The fact that Moore's watch is a Casio does not phase me too much, as long as it shoots poisoned tipped projectiles.

The Barbie Honey Rider has a recent likeness to Ursula Andress. The best body to use is probably the Hot Toys female Cuban True Type. It's more tan and is her physique pretty much to a T.

Please excuse the poor quality and appearance ole RoboCop. I have yet to take any good pics of Honey as she is a WIP.

I want to see a GREAT Daniel Craig James Bond! I think Hot Toys could do better than Sideshow. Or they both do a joint venture like they're doing now with the Terminator 2 figures. Incredible! :yess:

I too enjoyed all of the actors that played Bond. It'd be great to see Hot Toys/Sideshow do them all.

But, Sean Connery is and always will be my FAVORITE actor to play James Bond! The first and the BEST to me! :)

Awesome! Is that a Connery Bond PF? Or is it the 1/6 scale figure? I have that head sculpt. I want to get a good body and outfit for him. I may go with the traditional black tux for my Sean Connery Bond figure.

Thanks Mike, its the 1/6 Dr. No head, repainted by elvis, with a a hot toys body, and hot toys Clark Kent suit. Tie and shoes were replaced, and the Walther is from toys city.

Finally got a chance to set up my Bond shelf. I am very happy with this display. It was too late to really pickup ALL the old Sideshow bond figures, so I limited myself to 5 of my most favorite.

Basically it came down to character, movie, costume and how well they looked all together. I feel it sort of represents an era of Bond that I relate to the most. I particularly love the gadgets and the quirkiness of the villains. The costuming on these figures were also a little more then the typical black tux, which always struck me as being a little boring. I already have the PF of Connery in a black tux anyways, so I thought I would try on a little color.

Also, I realize that all the new members go Hot Toys crazy when they first get into this, but they owe it to themselves to check out some of the older figures from yester-year. While they may not excel in costume accuracy or perfect movie sculpt, I think they have a lot of charm that is hard to ignore.

PS- The scuba gear Connery is freakin amazing!

That's a great Craig bond Datnhneil! Mine will look like that soon, only it will represent the end of Casino Royale, blue 3 piece suit, re-painted TTL head by Greggo, UMP45 from 21ST century Toys (with curved mag) and a TTL body. Will post pics when he's done.

I posted these in my collection thread, but thought it might fit here too.

Well, I've been working on a few customs of late and I thought I'd post some pics.

My Bonds, right now (I have to find a way to get them all back in the display case):

http://www.thecapn.net/images/09.jpg

My Daniel Craig. Nothing new, but man, I love this guy. Best custom I've ever done. Better than most figures I have. Feng is a master!

http://www.thecapn.net/images/02.jpg

Brosnan, from GoldenEye. When I think of Brosnan's Bond, this is how I remember him. He's wearing Sideshow's outfit and head, on a TT Regular. The watch is a repainted Dragon - hate those Sideshow watches. I sculpted the falling hair onto the sculpt's forehead, which is how I remember the younger Brosnan. He had longer hair in GoldenEye, but I haven't decided if I'll do any more. The shirt had buttons added - they were prominently white in the movie, and a brown belt with the shirt tucked in.

http://www.thecapn.net/images/03.jpg

http://www.thecapn.net/images/04.jpg

And what ended up being a pretty big project, Dalton's Bond. My personal favorite Bond actor, since he was the most like the Bond of the books. He's shown here from the movie poster for Licence to Kill. Repainted Sideshow Walther to fit Dalton's lighter weapon, repainted Dragon watch, HT Joker belt, TTL shirt, shoes, and pants, on a HT Narrow. The hair was a big resculpt...the original was slicked back, as if he's in his tux, but I wanted it to appear as it did through most of the move. Shaved off the front of the hair, and resculpted most of it from scratch.

http://www.thecapn.net/images/05.jpg

http://www.thecapn.net/images/06.jpg

I'm considering moving both Brosnan and Dalton to solid sculpt necks, I'm not sure if I'll do it or not yet.

Here's my Moore...not much done here. Sideshow head and gun, TTL 2.0 body, Dragon digital watch, Sideshow Dalton Paints, shirt, and bowtie, with Connery Jacket and TTL Shoes. I figured I should have at least one of these guys in a tux.

http://www.thecapn.net/images/07.jpg

My custom Connery. Keep in mind he's a lot less orange in person, but I was going for a sortof...hand-painted poster look for him. HeroHeads head, TTL body, suit, shoes, repainted Brother Production watch and the original Sideshow Connery gun.

http://www.thecapn.net/images/08.jpg

Now I just need to get my hands on a Lazenby - if anyone wants to part with one let me know!

I'll admit, in pictures, I've never been too impressed by it. But in-hand, it's a perfect representation. I guess you just have to see it in 3D. Not to mention the paint job is impeccable.

EDIT: As an aside, in that second set of pics, he's missing his watch, and I switched the TTL shirt and tie for the Hot Toys DX Joker version. Looks even better now.

I was wrong, it's actually Loading Toys' Dangerous Man. Like I'm suspecting is the case with the previous figure, some shots aren't flattering here either and while neither are perfect, IMO (and I stress that for sake of argument :lol), I just think this looks better:

The loading Toys head was for sure the up and running master of Craig liknesses. Then came the Feng head and blew it so far out of the stratousphere it's not even worth a second glance anymore.

The Feng head is pure and simple a 98% accurate representation of a head that's been done a thousand times by others, many of which do not even come close. Nothing tops the Feng head... and the TTL recast is a far cry from the original. Still one of my all time faves and one of the best things i ever bought.

Ok guys, i'm looking for some help.

I'm looking to update my SS Dr No Connery Bond. I'm quite happy with the sculpt, which i'm also going to have repainted, but with today's quality, I think the suit and the body are a bit lacking.

I haven't read all of this thread, but I was wondering what would you guys recommend as the best body and suit to change to? I want to keep the same style suit as the original though.

I don't do a lot of customising, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. :peace

TTL is a company mate, just like Hot Toys. They made a grey suit similar to the one seen above.

For which suit mate, the TTL? I'd 100% suggest go with the Hot Toys Narrow shoulder or the actual TTL body. Can't go wrong with either. Standard true type is too big and the slim truetype is too small.

Well my Daniel Craig Bond collection grows. Thanks to bwayne for the new hs and my order from Toy Anxiety arrived simultaneously (Toms Forrest's coat and pants as well as a few others)... I still have to pad the Buck body and do some futzing but for right now I'm happy with the start of a Casino Royale Craig Bond straight off the plane landing at Nassau, Bahamas (yes the sunglasses, aren't exact-- but they were the best I could find at short notice).

Here's a scene from the film.

also not sure the aviators are working. look for the glasses that came with brothers production Collateral Tom Cruise or even HT T-800

I actually think that after some water treatment the pants (and suit) will look pretty good. I wasn't sure about the sunglasses either-- but they were the best attempt to match from Toy Anxiety. I'm constantly on the lookout for improvements, but beggars can't be choosers.

A little more info for you. I would say that 95% of the way that suit looks is just time spent futzing (if that is the right word or even spelling). The rest is a little super glue to hold the shirts collar lappels down against the shirt as they dont like to stay down. I did the same for the jacket lappels. Where they would not stop curling away, or raising away from the jacket they were super glued down. Also I have removed the poppers on the waist coat and used super glue again to hold it closed as I don't like to see poppers.

My narrow shouldered TT arrived so I'll be able to have my Connery in his grey suit-- but I don't like the width and bulk of that tie so I think I'll replace it.

Pictures to follow (once I get home to set him up).

I didn't use the tie from the TTL suit (too bulky) and I still think I'm going to glue down the lapels-- (and pulling the shirt sleeves through was a pain) but the narrow TT definitely makes him look better... Now I only wish he was taller.

I got the same "Barbie" to bash a Solitaire. I just worried that the dress wouldn't fit a decent 1/6 female body (as Barbie bodies are thinner). Did you have any problems with the fit?

Sean

The dress is way too tight for the Triad body. It fits as you see but its open in back. I figure a Black Widow body may be an even worse fit (though better cleavage). If there's a slimmer shouldered body out there it will work well. Or perhaps a smaller body altogether like an Obitsu or something. Solitaire was pretty tiny anyway.

I figure I'll just tie up the back like a corset with some gold string and try to make it look like that's the style.

The Barbie head needs work too if you use it with the Triad body. Had to widen the hole.

I'd like to see this on the Sarah Connor/Jill/Widow body just to see how it looks.

Great work, she looks fine and the outfit is really impressive and eye catching.

Thanks. I do think the outfit is striking and basically covers up any jointed female body. The head is 'meh' but works for now.

She'll look nice with Tee Hee and Bond (Moore) from Live and Let Die.

Deckard

She definately looks nothing like Jane Seymour as far as the face, but the makeup is painted on nicely and the hair could be alot worse, no frizz. She looks like she'd fit in fine.

I am waiting on my package from Seb and I will finally have my Auric Goldfinger and Thunderball Jimmy finished. :yess:

It is a great likeness of Daniel Craig. However the factory paint apps leave a lot to be desired but that's not an issue with all the uber talented painters here.

Echo Base Toys has it in stock for $80.00. The actual description for it is "Toy City/TTL WWII German Secret Police Gestapo".

I had gotten Brosnan GoldenEye a couple of years ago but the floppy buck and craggly grey hands meant that he would be relegated to a drawer. I finally got around to switching out the body and it's like getting a whole new figure!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_e-vNNZsChlA/TTbkjC5bDBI/AAAAAAAABAw/pZmg1lHMF_g/s576/IMG_6464.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_e-vNNZsChlA/TTbkjnkPFXI/AAAAAAAABA0/vmtc9513Nvg/s576/IMG_6462.JPG

He's on a TTL 2.0 and it's great! The original body was truly horrible, especially the hand sculpts! And the paint job on the hands was so way off from the base body, I couldn't even consider rolling up the sleeves!

Now I've got my one and only proper Bond to represent the franchise. Brosnan and GoldenEye are my favorites, so this is perfect for me.

Reinhardt

Looks great. Only thing you would need to take it to the next level is chop the neck off and put it on a body with sculpted neck.

Mad Old Lu
01-19-2011, 12:15 PM
You're right, Reinhardt. That's a problem with the body--the overly exposed neck joint. It's a shame because otherwise the body's pretty good and a great alternative to a TrueType.

:lol Actually, no! I was so turned off by the bad body/hands that I pretty much just put him away as soon as he came out of the box!

I looked through this thread to see if anyone else had a pic but he's too small in most of them.

I actually got a pretty good deal on him about 2 years ago for like $20. I figured, what the heck. But geez, those hands! And the loose buck! Like I said, he went straight to the drawer, waiting for a new body.

JediMike71

Here's a few pictures I took a few months ago of my SS Pierce Brosnan James Bond "Goldeneye" figure. Yeah, it's still got that Buck body. But also like Mad Old Jim I got him on the board here for about the same price he did. I got mine loose with most of his gear, along with the great Sean Connery James Bond, and "Miss" (ahem!) Galore from "Goldfinger". All from the same board member here! I'd like to someday get a better Hot Toys Truetype for it...

The picture's a little blurry...sorry.

Also is anyone selling thier Goldeneye James Bond? Id be interested.

Mad Old Lu
01-25-2011, 09:45 AM
Hey Roc. Yep, just changed the body. The TTL is really a good, cheap alternative to the TT. I've heard the TTL 3.0 is a little loose, but this one is the TTL 2.0 and it's pretty good. The joints all move very smoothly and almost feel like they would be loose but hold their poses well. The only thing is the gap on the neck joint is pretty big and obvious.

Hey Guys

I can confirm all about the Corgi/PopCo issue: I worked for them and I was one of the lead designers for the action figures not only for Harry Potter, Golden Compass and for James Bond as well. The problem was nothing to do with Daniel Craig at all it was all down to EON. Plus it also turns out that PopCo did not have the action Figure rights in the first place. We were only making prototypes to see if we could get it. But the marketing team got the wrong end of the stick and placed them on the shelves for Toy Fair. I actually still own the James Bond 5inch figure, its sitting right here next to me. As I painted both the First Kill and Le Chiffre prototypes. Shortly after all this Corgi was brought out by Hornby in the UK and Popco and Cards Inc was no more.
I know also work for the design company behind the James Bond Props and one of the things we tried to put forward was 1:6 scale Figures. Let me tell you something there is no way we will ever see 1:6 Bond Figures again, which is so sad :( I know even Hot toys and some other companies have gone to EON and they have simply turned them away and said no. As a huge Bond fan myself I would love to see these in 1:6 again.
I hope this helps, feel free to contact myself if you would like more info.

Makes me treasure all the SSC ones I own all the more. Still waiting for that Daniel Craig sculpt that I deem to be perfect. Not a fan of Feng's to be honest. I still prefer the Loading Toys one but it could be improved upon.

I have the TTL version of fengs, painted by Greggo, and sometimes I love it, sometimes not as much. It's wierd. So yeah i'm still waiting for the definitive DC head as well. I heard Seanho is making one and kato is doing the suit :D

There was a brilliant one on here years ago made by Susala but it never got finished or anything. Shame because it was shaping up to be amazing.

Same here. I love my SSC Bonds. I miss those days when Sideshow figures were $40 and looked amazing. I wouldn't think twice about shelling out $150 for a new Bond release though.:lol

Yeah, that was an excellent sculpt. I don't think she's been to the site in a couple of years. Damn shame.

EON would be very wise to sell the license to Hot Toys. I mean, do they realize the popularity of 1/6 figures today?

BTW guys, I missed my opportunity to grab a MIB Q a few weeks ago. I don't know if anyone else is aware, but Cotswold has a few SSC Bond figures for some damn good prices. Only 1 of each though.

Great find---- I've got the complete SSC collection (with a few customs-- Goldfinger, two Craigs) and it's what got me into SSC. Happy with what I have but sad there aren't more on the horizon. Great link Mr. Fusion though for anyone who was behind on their Bond collecting.

and DarthNeil got me started on my Bond collection. I saw his pictures of his figures and thought I had missed the boat. A few years ago, I pulled the trigger on a Connery Goldfinger. When he arrived, It hit me like a ton of bricks.

Anyway, I just got a Legacy Dalton which I didn't think I would get at a decent price. Funny how when you get one, another one comes along. At this point, I have all the Bond figures from Ssc with the exception of Jinx and Onatopp.

I really hate not having a Grant, Goldfinger, Largo, Blofield. I'm really hopeful with Bond 23 someone will get the license. It will be the 50th anniversary, so marketing should be out in force. Roger Moore has already announced his involvement in a book titled Bond on Bond. Toys would seem a natural.

Come on, Eon!

Hey Darth Neil - my Wai Lin has two guns as well ! I picked up a second and a headsculpt from toy anxiety :-)

The bike is a new ray produced - its correct. The only mod required to the bike is to remove the rear view mirrors, which snap off quite easily.

BTW - is this susula ? It was only posted 3 April and notes that they thought they had lost it in a house move and only just found it. Maybe we still might get casts ?

No idea about the Craig hs...

Where did you pick up the bike?.... Available from any specific on-line retailers? I've got an extra Die Another Day tux Brosnan Bond (that right now is just jacketless with gun holster and pouring himself a drink) which I'd love to use for this... Have you been able to find matching (or close to it) clothes from that scene?

Well let me tell you something! We designed and fully illustrated articulated figures from Casino Royale including Mollaka, Obanno, M, Vespa x2 Bond x4 versions and Le cheffire plus Mr White and plus some henchmen. These were sculpted from our 7 inch limited articulation range, however due to time and the fact we needed to show something at Toy Fair UK they sculpted the 7 inch Range at 5 inch.
The 5 inch range was going to have the same articulation as our Harry Potter figures over 20 points. Its so sad they never made it because I know for a fact Kids and Collectors around the world would love them.

I have a full james bond set coming by a SSF painter who is 2.5 years behind. I've been patient and understanding but starting to get a little worried to be honest.

Anyways I love Bond. Love it. I hate that there is not more lisenced stuff. I really want some sort of replica of the Goldfinger Aston Martin and if one existed in 1/6 it would be the only 1/6 vehicle I could justify.

Many of the SS heads have great likenesses, including the two that Balsquat posted. And even though the likenesses are good they are behind the times and the outfits REALLY are behind the times.

I recently got he Maximus Miniatures Bond head and made my grey suit Godfinger Bond. Deckard says the hair is not right but I think it works, though would prefer the Tux look from Dr No but the SS Tux is not good enough for me.

I hate that there was not more buz for Maximus' sculpt. Once I post my pics Im hoping there will be, I want him to take on Moore and Brosnan next.

Right now all I have are Craig (feng) and Connary (Maximus). Love them, Sean is a dream come true really... but since we will not see more official produt we need to comission some sculpts that do justice to Bond.

I want the full set of Bonds and various outfits for them. I want a few key villains... Goldfinger, Jaws, Oddjob, Blofeld, trevelyan, Dr No. A few key Bond Girls, Honey Ryder, _____ Galore, Xenia Vesper (not iconic I know, but I love her) and Q.

One day I hope this can happen, and if most of my collection has to go one day those will remain. In fact before I got out of control with 1/6 I thought the majority of stuff I'd own would be Bond. and now I have thongs I barely care about like Inception and Underworld and barely any Bond.

To be honest, I don't really need or want to pay for Hot Toys quality anymore.

Allot of these figures came out at $40:horror
At that price point, I could buy a nice little collection of figures with decent likeness, a few unique accessories and a display stand w/color art box.

Now it's all about crazy museum quality tailoring, paints and sculpting. Now figures come with multiple outfits and 3-4 pairs of hands. I just don't care for how 1/6 figures have become so elaborate.

I would rather pay a small amount of $$ for some really cool figures, that may not be perfect, but display well and represent the movies I love. I really don't care for Hot toys to pick up the license, I just wish Sideshow had continued with the line and made a few more figures.

Personally speaking I'd rather have less junk and fewer high quality stuff. I can't look at the older stuff any more, sure they were 40 bucks but they do look it. It's hard to justify anything over 200 though, even with as amazing as they are 200 is a lot of money and most of them waver around that..

anyway...
