I was watching the "Oscars" and was appalled that, when they went through the people that passed away this year, there was much applause for many people but a hush overcame the audience when Heston's name was announced.

There was little acclaim for his work.

Politics is one thing, but art is more important. Hollywood give the man his due...

NRA aside... Heston was one hell of an actor.

Rest in Peace Mr. Heston...

Oh crap, that's right, he did pass away. I completely forgot about that.

Just pre-ordered the General Ursus Hot Toys figure. My first Planet of the Apes figure in my collection and it's a damn good looking one too!

Though the remake movie wasn't all that great, I thought Michael Clarke Duncan's gorilla character would make for an excellent figure.

Congratulations!! :banana

Wow. I can't believe I didn't do any customizing today. I'm usually doing something, but today I did nothing. Just thinking about cutting up my scarf for Zira's neck wrap instead of sacrificing my sweater...and wondering if I could take it apart a little so I could use the dark brown strings for Zira's sleeves.

Best costume prob goes to either the Batman and Catwoman duo, or the woman in the Planet of the Apes with FX makeup, hair and costume. I did a double-take when I saw her. She looked so unassuming walking the show. If I didn't know better I'd say she walked off a tv/movie set.

Here are the upcoming convention dates that I know of, in case anybody wants to go ape:

In the UK: Spring Memorabilia Show, 28-29 March 2009
http://www.memorabilia.co.uk/

The San Francisco Bay Area Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention--this is in my area, so I AM SO THERE!!
May 22-25, 2009
The Hyatt Regency, Santa Clara, CA

May 29-31, 2009: Burbank (Monsterpalooza)

JUNE 5, 6 & 7 2009, SuperCon, THE DOUBLETREE MIAMI MART, AIRPORT CONVENTION CENTER

July 23-26, 2009: San Diego Comic Con--this is the one PZ goes to on his annual migration.

Dragon*Con 2009 will be held Labor Day weekend (September 4 - September 7, 2009) in Atlanta, GA.

If anybody has any other dates they would like to add, we should keep them all in one place and perhaps someday every single one of us will be able to meet face to face.

Here's a link listing a TON of comic conventions...check it out...I don't know how large some of these are...I've not heard of most...but it's cool to see a long list of upcoming events.

That would totally rock Jessica! Does anyone know if they ever have these Comic Cons on the east coast in other locations (other than New York City)? The idea of dressing up as a ape sounds like a very cool thing to do at least once in my lifetime! I'm really liking this idea. :angelsmil

I'm putting a rough calendar of all the future dates I know. We all need to go ape out and together would be more fun than being the only ape in town!! If we plan way ahead in advance, we can choose the most central location and we'll all fly in. We deserve to get a real group hug!!

Aw shucks. I thought I got the perfect net/lace for hairing up, but I just did a compare with the lace beards and whatever I got for sixty-five cents is too large as far as the mesh. I'm going to have to go back to the fabric store and get a finer lace. I have a dental appt. today, so that's where I'm headed after that!

And later today, I'm going to start painting a Bruce Lee head (mego scale) while there's still daylight.

Since the Zaius fat suit worked out so well, I decided that my SST Ursus could use more work, even though I have the HT figure pre-ordered. I'd already lengthened his cuirass(thanks again, Angel) so it was time to do something about his head. The SST helmet has always been a bit off to my eye; after considering a total resculpt and latex cast, I found a hasbro Ursus helmet on Ebay. The price was low enough that I didn't feel like it would be a great loss if it was NG; I got a pleasant surprise...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/waxmurderer/PICT0004-1.jpg
Lengthening the armor, which was 1 row short, front and back. A second set allowed me to do a little "cut and paste" modification...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/waxmurderer/PICT0018.jpg
The corrected armor, with the original helmet and a lengthened havelock. Dome too small, havelock sucks. In the process of replacing the original, I left the helmet removeable(I also left the head removeable, which makes working on him much easier)...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/waxmurderer/PICT0010-4.jpg
Ursus' head, with the crown built up to a more correct shape with Magic-Sculpt...
Test fitting the new helmet. The Hasbro helmet is a pleasant surprise;well sculpted and cast, it is by far the best part of the Hasbro figure(not that it takes much to do that).Color match is pretty good,too...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/waxmurderer/PICT0041.jpg
Painted;I considered making him a silverback, but this was an aspect of gorilla society that got lost in the films. Still might do it anyway...
In all his glory;ironic that Hasbro should provide the solution to the helmet problem, though my custom Vader also uses a Hasbro dome,so...
I love the rework of Cassius! I have never seen him before. And the General Ursus looks waaaaaaay better with his hair sculpted up like that. Hmmm....I will have to use the Hasbro helmet that Ironman gave me for this (if i can't fit it on my General Ursus sculpt that is still in progress)!

Do you guys sometimes feel like you have way too many projects you are working on? I'm feeling that way. Last night I tried to start on some items...but never followed through. I need to slow down. I'm going to paint some Mego-sized human heads and just enjoy it, and sneak in some paint on Carsia and she how she blossoms.

My costume is overwhelming me now. I have to re-do the shoulders/sleeves, the front green panel, re-weave the inner sleeve, and work on the wig.

I really want to attack my costume in time for a convention in May. Maybe I'll just drive around in my makeup. Whatever. I'll have to cross that bridge when I get there. So maybe I'll not spend the night, but I WILL spend the day in costume because it's so goddamned fun.

I totally understand JJ. In fact, I just canceled my $450 order for the new Hot Toys apes with Sideshow. I don't have the $$$ for them, and I'm still not very excited over them. On the flip side, I am still very happy with the Sideshow apes and they're soooo much cheaper in price. :)

I think that cancellation is a really good decision on your part, Angel... I was never all that excited about them either. The hair really would make them stick out from the rest of the collection.

I still am considering Ursus because the helmet will cover most of the hair. I'm waiting to see it in person at my local comic shop before I make a final decision. Money is tight right now so the figure will really have to "Wow" me for me to pull the trigger on it.

I've never been able to get into the gorilla characters. I don't even have the Sideshow versions. As a kid I used to be afraid to watch the gorillas when they came on screen. Back in the 70s radio news shows would talk about the Vietnam war and used the term "gorilla soldiers." I thought they meant actual gorillas. When I first saw Planet of the Apes on TV I was scared to death and couldn't watch the talking gorillas. Cornelius and Zira, of course, were kind and friendly so I felt safe watching them. Interesting to hear another point of view concerning the Ape saga. I can see how the "ape"earance of gorillas, given their constant violent context would be unsettling for some children. Thanks for sharing.

But I do agree. Even though they seem to be the most popular of the ape species among collectors, the gorillas have been my least favorite of the apes... even before Zira started her "gorilla bashing" rants. Personally, I found Julius to be the most disturbing gorilla when I was growing up. The sight of his hairy arms grasping the water hose yelling "Shut up you freak!" still gives he the shivers.

That's not to say that if Hot Toys made a Julius that I would pass on him. Quite the contrary :D

I'm just curious if we going to see any other ape species represented in this new, albeit expensive 12" line. Like I said, those collectors sure love those gorillas.

I would never have found it because of the wrong spelling!! I can't wait to go ape again. I'm going in full ape regalia, hopefully with new and improved hair, in Santa Clara this May, to BayCon. I'm still working on my wig. Actually, I started taking apart the one I bought.

Angel--I decided to smooth out the wrinkles on Carsia's face, particularly on her muzzle, with Sculpey...I need to fire it up now with a BBQ starter to cure it...and then want to put some more layers of paint on her face. I'll post a photo later when I'm done. Hopefully she will look better.

Jessica
03-14-2009, 02:21 PM
The wrinkles are there on Carsia's cast. It's just that compared to the Sideshow Zira rotocast, Carsia's face has a LOT of wrinkles...so I'm smoothing it out to see how it would look.

I can't wait to see how your wagon comes out! It is so exciting that you have taken up that mongo project again!

Hello simians!!
Sorry for the absence of late. As most of you know, POTA is my all time fave, but, I do branch out into several genres. I have begun painting!! Yes, yes its true. So far I enjoy it. I haven't completed anything yet, just testing various skin tones on a few human heads. They aren't POTA but they are all sci-fi related. I am hesitant to approach the eyes as they are so small and seem to require the most patience. Hopefully pix within the next week.
Ok... back to it!!

Congrats, IM! Truly painting is VERY rewarding. A bit frustrating when you can't get the paint tone correct, but it's just practice...and just another layer of paint. Work thinly so you can build up tone on tone. (yeah...like I know)! Anyway, congrats on picking up the brush!!!

Jessica

Somebody at the MegoMuseum was able to recreate the hieroglyphs by tapping the pattern with a steel leather tool, wet leather, and a hammer. I think that's the way to go, Angel, for our future hieroglyphs!!

I was quite busy surfing the internet today. Even so, I did manage to sew one of my inner sleeves tighter for a closer fit around my arm. Will have to do the same to the other arm tomorrow.

I also removed the handpunched crown of my wig and sewn some lace for the cap of the wig. It didn't take very long but I sewed some wefts of hair on top of that. I need to find the other lace I bought so that I could begin the time consuming hair tying for the forehead part. I just can't remember where I placed the bag...

Did not paint at all. I was too lazy to remove my contact lenses for working up close.

Gentlemen (I think I'm the only female in Central City!), hot off the apevine!! Horses for your garrison!!!

They will (so far as I know for now) only be available from two different places.
The first is already amassing names for pre-orders:

Steve isnt at the pre-order stage yet, but has four more models coming to choose from:

Jessica – I love that these artists used the Johnny West Horses and improved on them. I know you could do the same thing and save some serious money for yourself. Did you get your heat gun yet? You’ve already got the talent, the apoxie, and the paint. Try a simple one first, maybe just by twisting the head. :angelsmil

I found the heatgun in the garage!! It's still boxed up. We've had that for a LONG time...we used to use it for shrinking the plastic on sailplanes. I have two horses now (same stance, different paint)...and I will try to twist the head/neck. They both need a repaint.

After watching this movie I sometimes wonder if there was a civilization in ancient times before recorded history that was much more advanced then we are today. Anything is possible. No one has all the answers no matter how smart they think they are.

Jessica
03-15-2009, 05:01 PM
Angel I am thinking again of your future gorilla costume. You can definitely hair up your own wig. You just need to buy the wefts of hair at a wig shop. You can have Denise sew you up an expandable hood, with four-way stretch fabric. You can sew the runs of hair on top of this. Sewing runs is so easy compared to hand tying (which is what I'm doing now).

Jessica

Good news, guys! I was finally able to buy the plastic pieces that I have been looking for to make my own gorilla backpack. It was marked down from $20.99 to $10.99. It is a soft polyvinyl artist portfolio in bright blue. I needed the polyvinyl large enough to be able to hold up the shape of the backpack...so I will use that as inserts within the fabric. I hate heavy backpacks, but this should work and still be light enough not to make me go crazy. I don't have the fabric yet, but now that I have the "skeleton" of the backpack...I can start looking!

Just taking a mini break from tying hair to my lace. I let my husband purchase some of those nerf guns for the boys. I said they can have guns only because gorillas on the Planet of the Apes had guns. I know...I'm a warped mom. Anyway, my youngest, Ashton, has been running around the house with the rifle held atop his head screaming, "Planet of the Apes! Planet of the Apes!"

I hope school is going well for you. Do feel any smarter yet?

No. Today I am doing extra credit for my class. I had to dress up extra nice and am wearing a short skirt and high heels and a very fitting mandarin collar outfit....and then I'm supposed to write down what people's reactions are and write a paper about it. I got the idea for my costume here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAYJYxbJv1Y when I found this song and thought it appropriate for my Carsia. I went through my closet and found an embroidered Chinese style jacket that still fits.

I swear...show some legs and it's a different world. :lol I probably look like a Chinese hooker, but whatever. :monkey4

Jessica
03-16-2009, 02:14 PM

I guess it's hair that is sewn onto a string...You will need wefts about 6 inches in length at least.

I thought the less smooth was more accurate. Sideshow's Zira is unnaturally wrinkle free compared to Kim's prosthesis.

Today after class I went into a wig shop and was able to buy a package of #2 (dark brown) human hair 18" long. It was only $20 something. Yesterday at the wig shop near my house, I purchased 14" of hair for $38. Grrr....Anyway, it's non-returnable...but whatever. Life goes on and I'm still going at working on my wig. It is a major time sucker, definitely, but I need to complete it by May. I think I can do it if I put in at least an hour every day...

Jessica

Didn't realize how late it was. Only put in half an hour on my wig and hardly did anything at all.

Yesterday I received a most wonderful package for just being an ape fan. It was a surprise from one of the groups I belong to. One of the articles sent to me was the map of the Forbidden Zone, and a map of Ape City.

My four year old said he wanted me to take him to Ape City. I told him I would love to take him there.

Well....this morning, he asked, "Mommy, when there is no daycare, can you take me to Ape City?"

I told him I would love to but I didn't know how. He said I had a map and that would show me how to get there. I told him the map is a map of Ape City, but doesn't show me HOW to get there.

He asked, "Can we take a plane?"

I told him we needed to take a spaceship that goes faster than the speed of light so we could punch through time...but even then there would be no guarantee we could find Ape City.

I am so warped...my poor baby.

He said that if I knew how to put on makeup, then I must know how to get to Ape City. Wow. I'll have to think of a nice way to tell him that there really is no Ape City, that it's all just pretend.

I'm home taking care of Ashton today...He's got a really bad cold. So, what to do other than start on his outfit, since I didn't get to it yesterday?

These mongo sized pants were purchased purely for the material. It only went up to 2XXL. Too bad they didn't have 3XXL, as that would have given me much more fabric. I bought two pairs. Whatever is left over as far as material will be saved for the gorilla garrison.

We're leaving the country! Yay! I have not been outside the states for a LONG time. I hope we hit a timewarp and end up in Ape City. This is how our travel plans look:

First leg of flight: 5 hours.
Two hour layover in Georgia.
Last leg of flight: 17 hours. There is a stop-over for refueling somewhere for 1.5 hours, but we're stuck in that plane for 17 hours.

I'm going to knock myself out with some margaritas while on the plane. Lucky for everyone involved I'm a happy and sleepy drunk.

The other option, which I didn't really want to do, was a 10 hour flight. Then a bloody 11-hour layover wandering at the airport for the next flight. With three boys aged 10, 7 and 4 years??? Uh...no! That would be like herding cats again. Last leg of flight would have been 7 hours.

It's a long haul, no matter which way you cut it.

Congats on the horsies! That's a great deal. Did he happen to give you the bridles and saddles also? When are you going to melt them?

I'm going to start customizing again when I'm done with my wig. Did I tell you that I've committed 8 hours to tying the hair...and I've got three bloody square inches done? I'll post a photo of what I've done later tonight...and you can see that I have a LOT more to do. And I'm not even counting the sideburns yet. :(

Jessica - Has anyone bought any of your ape sculpts yet?

Jess - Learn from my bad experience... Don't use all your own money & casting supplies with the hopes of selling them. It seems everyone wants them, but many folks never pay for them after you've made the casts. You'll get stuck selling them on FeeBay trying to recoupe the costs. In other words, wait till your customers pay you upfront and then invest that money in the supplies. Those who are serious won't have a problem with this.

You're right, Angel. I'm not complaining. I am honored you bought my sculpts. I'm surprised anyone would want to buy them really. I just want to make enough money to be able to shrink them down...because Mego scale apes don't take up as much space....and sometime in the future I really want to make up the stadium in Mego scale so I could photograph it with all of my customized apes. That would be so grand if I could accomplish that feat.

Look how much bloody forehead I still have to cover on my wig. I have to tie the hair down all the way to where the T-pins are :monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

This is 8 hours of work already but it doesn't look like I've done anything.

Dang! Did you have to put all that hair on it one strand at a time?

The back of the wig was from the one I purchased already. It was too poofy up on top, so I scalpted that portion of the wig and sewed in wefts of hair across to cover the samurai bald spot. The forehead hairs I'm putting on two hairs at a time...sometimes I cheat and put three or four. The forehead hair has advanced very little. Now I have put in 10.5 hours of work into it. :monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

Many thanks to you guys who bought.

Tonight we're going to watch the Ugandan boys choir.

Zira's hairline on her forehead slowly marches onward. I have put in 17 hours already and you can barely see any progress...

Jessica

Yesterday was quite fun for me. We had piano practice, and I had an hour to knit. Then sometime during the day we headed for San Jose, which gave me another hour to knit. While we were hanging out over there, I got to knit some more!! I have two mothers to be that I need to knit a baby blanket and a whole outfit for...and they are both due in two months so I really have to get cracking!!!

The Ugandan children's choir was also wonderful. I just can't wait to travel. I believe I have talked my husband into a safari....I'll let you know how that goes. My sister in law was talking about flying Emirates...their travel is only 22 hours which includes the layovers. Ours is 24 hours, also including the layovers. That's the fastest we will ever get to East Africa. The other times I have been before usually take 33 hours or so, including all the layovers.

Today I plan to finish painting the Bruce Lee head and also work on a Mego costume or two. I need to get these out of the way so that I can dedicate some more time to knitting and also hairing up that wig. If i do an hour of knitting everyday and then maybe two hours daily for the wig...perhaps I will complete everything in time.

Jessica

I actually finished sculpting my Burke hairdo and I like it. After numerous attempts, Lucius is now completed also. I guess I'm now ready to dig out all my paints (once again) and start painting around 8 other heads.

This afternoon, I mounted a whip (onto a pole) as seen on the ape wagon in Beneath. I also affixed a small knife, and a sleeve-like container that holds the pole whip to the wagon. Cool.

Please some photos Angel!! I would love to see how your wagon is coming along.

It's amazes me how very busy you always are. Your work pace leaves everyone in the dust. It's obvious you LOVE all that you do!

I just like to keep busy. I have way too many ongoing projects. If I finish something, I've already started five more. It's never-ending but I love it all. The only thing is...sometimes I don't know where to start...and when I'm confused about which project to continue with...I end up on the internet.

Jessica

Here's what's been keeping me busy...Zira's hairline steady marches onward...
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/hair001.jpg

This is the tool that I am using. Wayyyy better than the crochet hook I was using...and faster, too. I can do about 30 knots in 10 minutes now. You can see how fine the tool is compared to the T-pin near it.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/hair002.jpg

Closeup of the hairline, and you can kinda see the lace:
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/hair003.jpg

This is about how much I can do per day. It takes about an two hours to tie all of the hairs long enough on this size of weft. I cut off the hairs from where they are sewn together and have to remove the short hairs which are not really 18 inches in length.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/hair004.jpg

We had guests, so I could do NOTHING. Have not even touched a paintbrush...have not even completed a Mego outfit. Grrrr. I did put in one hour into the hairline and that was all I could accomplish today. So much to do, so little time...

I never pre-wetted my materials whenever I dyed them...so they were always splotchy and always making me frustrated. Apemania says to pre-wet before dumping them in color so that the colors will be even throughout. Huh! Never occurred to me to do that before...

Ironman, I had to dig out all of the molds/casts stuff that I had been doing before I got sidetracked by my Zira outfit. I didn't realize that there were three heads I was in the middle of casting, so last night I added the rest of the rubber. Now the excitement is there again, wanting to see how the casts come out. I can't wait to get home and see how it ends up.

Jessica
04-07-2009, 03:19 PM
I guess you finally bought your Legos. Right?

No! I found a small plastic cup made by Glad that really works! I place two horns on top of the ape head that I am going to make a mold out of with the klean klay (for pouring the plastic and for an air vent)..place the ape head upside down in the cup and let it rest on its horns. I then fill up the cup with the rubber mold stuff. If the sculpt is too long, I create a wall of klean klay to deepen the cup so I could submerge the entire sculpt in rubber mold. I then pop the rubber mold out and cut out the sculpt with my kitchen knife. The air vents (horns) I created earlier give me an indication of where the face is. I don't cut the rubber all the way through to the bottom...I only cut 3/4 of the way....just enough to pop out the sculpt. When I want to create a cast, I tape the rubber mold shut and use the air vents for pouring.

I just discovered imprinting the name of the sculpt in klean klay before I pour the rubber mold and attaching this to the side of the cup...so now I have a way to tell what the heck the mold is for.

04-07-2009, 04:50 PM
I use something I found at an auto store, for helping to promote adhesion of paint to plastic. If you coat with the spray lightly...add paint...and then spray again...do this maybe six times in super thin coats, it creates a beautiful skin texture. Once I'm done painting, I spray a final coat of it. I think it's by duplicolor...I'll have to check tonight when I get out of the slavemines.

Still plugging away at tying up hair onto my lace. I think I have put in 20 hours now...and I think I need to put in another 10 to complete the forehead. It's slowly getting there. When I look at it, it feels like I have done nothing...but when I compare it to an older photo, I can see the hairline has progressed.

I am limping today because I got a massive charley horse trying to reach for the bloody alarm clock yesterday. I don't know who was making more noise...me or the alarm clock. To add to the stupidness of it all, it was my new cell phone that I am still trying to get used to and I couldn't figure out how to turn it off.

Angel remember how your hands felt like they froze into claws when you were working on the wagon? I'm all knitted out. I am so tired of this freaking baby blanket. I have grown it to about 24 inches since Saturday. I have 24 more inches to go and need to complete it by this coming Friday. At this rate I won't have time to bang out a baby outfit. My coworker's baby is not due until late May, so I have some time to make a baby outfit before then...

Sleep tight you simians. Gotta wake up early to take the kids to piano practice...and then hang out in San Francisco the rest of the day. I'll be sure to bring the blanket since I've got a LOT of knitting left.

Here is what has been consuming most of my free time. I started this blanket last Saturday, and I have been feverishly working on it for the past 9 days. Look how damned big it is. Incidentally, Dr. Zaius is topless because it's 85 degrees in the house. (Actually he's still topless since I haven't bothered to clothe him after I removed his Nehru jacket I made for Snickertown so many months ago).

[QUOTE=duralumin;1614140]...if any of you are familiar with resin garage kits I also sculpted both the Long Live The King and the Escapeonaughts for Model Prisoners here in Indy.

The sculpt for 'The King' is the best I've seen on a 1/6th kit.

As we all know Ape characters do not all look alike to us humans - something I think some producers fail to fully appreciate (When David Watson stood in for McDowall in 'Beneath' the producers were confident that no one would notice!)

On the sculpt for the "The King' you can somehow actually see Roddy McDowall beneath the simian features. I believe it's just been re-released and it comes highly recommended.

Great work! And welcome to my little section of the POTA universe. I don't suppose you ever considered selling the head sculpts from those kits seperately, for those of us non-modelbuilding ape fanatics? I've tried a few times over the years to get ahold of Jeff Yahger regarding his POTA models and seeing if he would be willing to do the same, but have hit dead ends each time.

Yesterday I went through two craft stores trying to find myself one more skein of yarn to finish up that gigantimous mongo blanket that is almost done. Someone has been after the yarn I have been using!! :maul

Today, I went to Micheal's near the slavemines where I toil all day...and I found the last skein of yarn in the color I want! :banana The only reason why nobody purchased it was because it didn't have a label. :banghead I saw it last week but thought I had enough so I left it there...:banghead

and it was waiting patiently for me today to pick it up. :banana I am sooooo glad. I was going to have to make it work if I could not find additional yarn, and I was going to take a pair of scissors and whack off bits of the beginning of the blanket to make the end match. Whew!!

A blast from the past! PZ, I just found out from Bri at Apemania that the only costume replication they provided for Cornelius on this display is the hieroglyph. Cornelius sports Wright King's (Dr. Galen: 1st Film) pants, Sal Mineo's (Dr. Milo: "Escape") brown undershirt, a generic tunic, and generic shoes. Pretty cool, huh?

That is VERY cool info, Jess. It's amazing that all the costumes pieces can be tracked back to particular actors.

I hear that original chest gyphs are VERY hard to come by... so it doesn't surprise me that the chest glyph is a repro. On the other hand, originial sleeve glyphs are, though rare, much easier to obtain than the chest glyphs... heck, I have a pair. I wonder why there is such a discrepancy between the two glyph types?

And I'm looking to re-visit the exhibit again this summer. The museum will also be hosting a traveling Jim Henson exhibit starting next month. I cannot miss that... I'm a HUGE Muppet fan. :banana:banana:banana

Jessica - Did you ever make the mutant robe with the large turtleneck for Billy's six-foot mannequin?

What's up with that new wig of yours? Is it still going to be done in time for your next WonderCon?

Currently, I'm painting up another Caesar statue. I promised the customer that it would be mailed by this Saturday so I'm painting that, and some other ape projects.

Talk to you later, time to watch some NHL playoff games. :)

That remark absolutely makes all of the hard work that went into the Ceasar piece worth it. The proprietor of Model Prisoners and I went into the "King" project in hopes of making what we'd always wanted in model kit form, and up until that time, had not been delivered: an "Apes" movie accurate prosthetic likeness...especially in regards to Roddy. Hard to believe that kit was initially released ten years ago! Ironman: I'd love to sell individual head sculpts from those kits, but Russ at Model Pris. holds the rights and it would be his call. He's a great dude and I know he would at the very least entertain inquiries. I'll get some pics up of those pieces as soon as I can. BTW...I'm a sneaky mother...I just found out from my wife's sister that she's just ordered a slew of Sideshow 1/6 apes for me for my birthday. I'm very fortunate my wife allows me to indulge in this sweet sickness!

I didn't have to make the mutant robe. Billy got something better...he got an ORIGINAL!! :chew

The darn wig is not done!! I hope to get to it soon. I have only four more weeks left to go...and guess what? That's about how long I have as well to make my younger sister a baby blanket and outfit and booties for her first baby coming out soon...*sigh* Neverending, this knitting. I love it though...but it would make me feel better to work on the wig and sideburns. Look how much more I have to go...
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/wig001.jpg

Once I finish hairing up the lace, I need to trim it again and restyle it. Hopefully it will look better than the last one I wore.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/wig002.jpg

Good news.... the mongo gigantinormous monstrosity of a baby blanket is FREAKING DONE!! I thought it would be 4 feet square when done, but it really measures 47" x 43". Still very huge. The one I will make my sister won't be this bloody large. I have two nights now to bang out a hat and booties...in time for Friday's babyshower. Ooops...Cancel that. I still have to bake the cupcakes and decorate them...so only have tonight to make a simple pair of booties. I'm going to bake the cupcakes in ice cream cones. I'll photograph them when they're done. Don't know if you guys have ever done this before but I have, and no matter how ugly your cupcakes turn out, they look like ice cream cones. :D

Guess what guys? There's a new sculptor in Megoland...he says he does 1:6 but was showing us his Mego scale heads today. He has never done apes but that doesn't mean he can't. EXCITING!! This gets my heart a-beating! WE NEED MORE APES!!!! (In 1:6 and 1:9!!!)

So Duralumin...we need you to start banging out more apes, too!!! More ape head sculpts for Ape City!!! As soon as my finish my baby blanket for my little sister, and also hairing up my wig...I'm going to start back on the sculpts and painting again.

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE APES FOR APE CITY!!!

I don't know about you guys...but I just want to do the happy banana dance!! :banana:banana:banana:banana

I have noticed that many of the costumes that go on Feebay have the actor's name written on them.

Maybe chest glyphs are more difficult to come by because not that many chimps achieved that rank. From what I could see on this photo, it seems as if the male chimps all have the sleeve hieroglyphs. The really short chimp in the front row on the very left of the photograph looks like a midget (or little person).

The tallest male chimp in the front with his foot out...do you guys think that's a pullover mask? If it's a pullover mask, then even he has the hieroglyphs on the sleeves.

Regarding the picture...As far as I can see, there are only 8 chimps that AREN'T wearing pullover masks. These would be the 3 at the far end of the 2nd row and the 5 visible in the top row. The pullovers are fairly obvious, at least to my eye...PS

You have provided this thread with MANY fantastic photos in the past, Jess. You always seem to surprise me with what you post.

Case in point with the last photo from Beneath you posted, I don't think I've seen that photo before... and it goes a long way to explain why there are more sleeve glyphs.
