Come join me, Sticks. It will be in San Francisco, at the Moscone Center, March 1. I think I will be the only ape in town. My date, Cornelius, is really really ill. He already told me a few weeks ago he probably would not make it, that I would have to go it alone.

That sounds like so much fun. How people are you going with? Where are you staying? I have all necessary camera gear, I just wish I knew someone for sound. We could hook up an XLR Boom pole with a shotgun mic wrapped in a Zeppelin and do interviews. I'd have you walk around and interact with everyone at the convention. I've never noticed a big convention here in Seattle but it would sure be fun to have you come up here, at least I could find a crew, and I'm sure PZ could drop in for a guest interview. Lol

Life should settle down after Wondercon. Right now I want to finish Rodney's Escape outfit so I could send it on its merry way, so that I could concentrate on my outfit.

I feel like I'm getting ready for a wedding. I'm like....BrideZira!!

:lol:lol:lol

I still owe Snick a Cornelius suit. I will have to bang those out for him after the convention.

Where has Chris been? I haven't seen him around these parts for more than eight moons.

Right now my sister and my eldest son (10 years) is coming. I don't know if I should drive my van or if I should let my sister drive. I know they won't have the stamina to stay there the whole time, so they are going to be like bananas and split when they get tired of the hoopla. Me...I'll just be soaking it in.

If my sister drives, she can go to my dad's house in the Mission District. I will hail a cab (I am NOT going to get the hell on the bus in my outfit!!) and taxi to my dad's house.

I think it necessary that you have a chaperon, to handle all interactions, money handling, etc. That way you can just stay in character be an ape and enjoy the art you'll be creating. :wacky

Yes, I don't have a handler. I'm sure there's a Jamba Juice around. I'll make my sister buy me a Jamba Juice before she skeedaddles. I don't want to have to touch up my perfectly blackened out teeth.

Personally I like the look of shredded clothes. It tells a story right there!

If you could afford to use the real pants great but maybe there is a cheaper solution? What other 1:6 figures use white pants? Hmm:confused:

Maybe dirty his body with some brown shoe polish, and give him a quick fine spray of water to simulate sweat.

My sister's friend will also be in full costume, but something from Star Wars. She lives further away, so we just plan on meeting there. I'm going to hang out with her, but she will also be in costume.

Incidentally, I am going to create pockets for my brown underdress for carrying cash, my ID, and my cell phone!! (and perhaps the key to the minivan if I end up driving).

One day, I'll be using the same plastic to make the detonation device that I used to make this cattle prod. The tip is clear and was like a dowel rod. I stuck it in a pencil sharpener and then painted it silver. It got a little cloudly, but it worked out good for this project.

I'm really turning in for the night. Here's how far I got with Zira's hair. It's not completely dry yet so I can't really comb through it. When the liquid latex gets delivered, I will paint the underside of the lace and lock the hair more in place.

Thanks, but that's not the mask I am going to wear. It's made out of latex. The one I am going to wear needs to get glued down, from Apemania, and that is made out of cooked foam latex.

Supergaijin76
02-07-2009, 08:11 AM
Ahhhhh... Okay, now I understand! I think. This is the hair that goes with the mask?

Jessica
02-07-2009, 08:44 AM
Yes, that's my wig and beard pieces that I am "hairing up" so it could get blended with the main wig. The latex mask just helps to keep the wig from falling off the mannequin's head because I don't have toupee tape. Plus, it helps me imagine where the project is going.

I'm taking a break. I have been taking two strands of hair, creating a loop, pulling it through the lace with the smallest crochet hook I could find, and then making a quick slip knot so I could make the hairline look more natural...plus I need for the hairs to be able to stay on so I could comb through it. I am afraid that if it were just glued on, it may pull off when I have to comb through it. It is slow and tedious, and I need to walk away from it for now. I've been at it a couple of hours and I don't see much progress.

I can't wait to glue on the appliances! Here's the plan after I put on the brown under dress:

I take my hair and twist it tightly in two braids on the back of my head. Hairpin the hell out of it so it does not fall down. Then, I will wipe down my face with alcohol or witch hazel, spray-paint it to help me minimize sweating...blow dry my teeth and swab down with tooth black. Color my lips with dark brown grease, cover my eyes, neck and chin area and the back of my hands with grey brown grease makeup. Glue on my pre-painted ears. Put prosthetic aide on the back of my hands and place my fur pieces on there....more prosthetic aide on my face and put on the appliances. Paint around the edges with latex and dot with rough makeup foam to blend the edges as much as possible...paint up the edges with more grease makeup...deaden any shine with makeup powder. Spray down the face with makeup fixative to make sure it doesn't rub off on my outfit.

Put on the wig and hair pin the hell out of it onto my hair. Put on more glue around my face and cover any skin with lace beards. Blend the forehead hair attachment to the main wig. Spray the hell out of my Zira hair to make sure it keeps its shape. Pack up my grease makeup and tooth black for last-minute touch ups...get my butt to San Francisco, and try not to get pulled over. (ha ha)...Can you imagine? What if they ask for my driver's license?

I am hoping this does not take more than three hours. I'm going at my makeup by myself. I don't have any helpers. I can do it...I've been playing the scene over and over in my head.

Besides, that way you know you're getting 100% help and a little extra TLC. :joy

Not sure what I want to arm this gorilla with just yet. Maybe a net? Maybe a gas tank and a torch? Perhaps I might just shackle and chain this gorilla to the pillar? What other choices are left? I may have to watch the movie for ideas. BTW - I use acrylic Americana True Red for the boots.

I've already got 2 apes holding riot shields. There are also cureently 2 gorillas that are holding police shotsguns, and another gorilla is holding an M-16. Caesar is also holding an M-16. I've got others apes holding cleavers, a flame thrower, knives, pistols, and machettes. What is left for them, other than the gas cans, torches and nets?

Like I said I may just shackle and chain this gorilla to the pillar.

I haven't done anything but add more hair to the beard that I will use around Zira's hairline...not the one I photographed, but the ones that go on the sides of her face. I decided to add more hair to the top part of the beard to soften the roughness of the crinkled hair. I'm sure I could iron it down, but I kind of like it fluffy looking.

I would love to go, too!! But...I really have to finish my outfit first.

I still have to find the fake leather part of Zira's jacket or just recreate it. Thank goodness I have enough fabric. That was the hardest part of the damned jacket. If I can't find it in the next three days I will recreate it on Saturday/Sunday. And, my grease makeup came, so I can start painting up details to Zira's foam latex appliance.

Fellow Ape Freaks, I'm looking for a source for pics of the saddles used by the Gorilla soldiers in the movies and/or TV show. After watching POTA tonight some scenes looked like they were using "English" saddles with the seats coved by wool blankets. Anyone know a source for reference material on this subject? I'd like to kit bash a couple of horses for my HT Gorilla Army.

Jessica
02-09-2009, 04:43 PM
Someone who had more knowledge than me regarding saddles rewatched the POTA DVD, and from their perspective it looked like at least a couple of the background saddles used were western saddles with the horns removed, but from some of the other screen references, it was obvious it was an English saddle.

An English saddle is easier to recreate than a Western saddle due to the horn (at least it was for me). I will try to dig up some photo references I have used in the past.

It looks like either a Western saddle with pommel horn removed or an English saddle with Western wood stirrups. I'm leaning towards English since the cantle isn't high enough to be a Western. So basically just switch the metal stirrups with wooded ones on the English and add the wool/fur covering. I think my mounted Gorillas will approve of the kitbash. Thanks for the pics.

How much more does apemania charge if you wanted the appliances pre-painted?

Hopefully these prices are up to date:

GORILLA Prosthetics Set COMPLETE $ 850

price includes:

FOAM LATEX Muzzle and Chin, fully painted, vented with teeth
Wig
Hair-piece set:
Forehead
Cheeks (2)
Beard
optional Hair collar (additional: $150)

OR priced individually:

Fully painted Muzzle and Chin, vented with teeth $ 350
(comes with vac-u-form storage face)

Hair collar (GORILLAS): $ 150
Wigs: (ALL characters) $ 250
Hair-piece sets:$ 250

Expensive, yes, but if you go the unpainted route, it's only about $150 and then you would have to purchase the grease makeup ($50) and Pros-aide (to create your own PAX paint...maybe another $10)...teeth black another $10. You can easily recreate your own teeth with Apoxie.

Jessica
02-09-2009, 06:59 PM
This is the breakdown so far of my makeup:

$600 = makeup crew.
$150 = first unpainted Zira Apemania appliance (makeup crew has her)
$156 = new set of unpainted Zira Apemania appliance (includes tooth black and shipping/handling)
$100 = makeup/pros-aide, what-not from Alcone
$75= four sets of lace beards (not human hair)
$75 = full M55 human hair beard + four lace beards (human hair)
$100 = hair (real human hair and fake human hair) for augmenting wigs
I'm sure there's a lot more I am forgetting. But yes, I bleed money left and right...

So you see...if you let Apemania do it all for you it almost comes about the same as if you did it all yourself. But, I like to put stuff together myself, as you guys know. If I could make my own prosthetics, and someday I will, I will bleed more money left and right to further accomplish myself in this area.

Jessica
02-09-2009, 07:14 PM
Or you could go a cheaper route and buy non-human hair wigs and save yourself some money there. I went with real human hair because it has a subtle sheen. Fake hair has a high gloss that doesn't look right in photographs.

Jess... I hope you are using rubber mask grease paint.

If you use regular grease paint it will, over time, destroy your Ape-pliance.

Also, I seem to recall that the hair used for the movie was Yak hair not human hair because the Yak hair was a bit more corse and looked more like simian hair in texture.

Yes, the makeup palette specifically says rubber mask grease paint. Over time as I improve the hair pieces, I will add real yak hair, crazy as it sounds. :naughty They used Korean hair (because of its uniform texture), mixed with some yak hair for added ape effect.

I really want to make my own appliances someday!! That would be the ultimate goal!!! :banana

Hasselin- - I used Citadel paints for Caesar. That grey statue I posted last week was not done. Here's a real quick indoor picture of the current Caesar statue. Can you see the brown I put in it?

I used Charadon Granite as the base coat. I then drybrushed Adeptus Battle grey very lightly over that. I then used Codex grey and drybushed that on as well. I used Devlan Mud (maybe even some black) as a wash to fill in the cracks and crevices and then mixed together some codex grey with some acrylic white paint and dry brushed even more highlights. Once all that was done I thought it was just too grey and needed a touch of brown so I used a real thin coat of devlan mud and a touch of gryphonne sepia.

There's no real formula to follow here. I would suggest you take breaks and be critical of your work. What looks good right now may not look good enough to you tomorrow. It took me about 1 week to get it to the point that I finally liked it. Here is the final grey statue with touches of brown in it.

If it helps to ease your workload any you can cross off the UFO uniforms for me. I was able to bash something together to suffice. When you get a chance, and catch up on your appliance work, email me to discuss the other couple of outfits I needed.

OK Ironman. I will cross off the UFO uniforms then. That helps lighten the load a little. After Wondercon, I want to concentrate on Angel's costume and making molds of all of my sculpts so that I can start shrinking them to Mego scale. I have not gotten beyond that one mold of Milo.

Oh....incidentally, I accidentally tore off the inside of Zira's head as I was trying to force her head onto the neck ball last night when taking photos of that Escape outfit. But no biggie. I plan to completely remove what is torn and then fill up her entire head with the same molding material that I have, and then insert the neck ball until it cures. What do you guys think of that idea?

That is an interesting outfit for an Ape. Maybe Carsia shopped at old abandoned human department stores. At first I though it might be that outfit Kim Hunter wore in at least one photo from "Escape." Although I never found out if that outfit was from a cut scene or was one of Kim's own coats she had on between scenes.

Dr. Milo, I missed the mail run because I was running late to class. I will send it to you in tomorrow's mail so you should see it early next week. Plus, I wanted to package it better than slapping it together in a bubble envelope. Angel knows firsthand that I LOVE PACKAGING TAPE!!

No Problem. With Valentine's day coming up I figured everyone will be busy...well, not me....:monkey2

I don't remember Zira wearing a blouse with that type of cuff on it either...I wonder now if it was from a cut scene, because her hands are fully made up with fur already.

Talk about hands...today I bought black nailpolish. Apemania's instructions said to wear tooth black on your fingernails. I already had dark brown fingernail polish, but I saw the black and thought that the nailpolish might be more permanent for the day than tooth black enamel on my fingernails...

Dark brown nail polish or black nail polish? Decisions...decisions...

Thank God it's almost FRIDAY!! And a 3-day weekend to boot! YAY! I will take the opportunity to paint my Zira appliances under natural light.

Don't know what my human will have for me for Valentine's day. Probably some flowers.

I know I'll be busy putting together my costume. I can't wait for the weekend to come.

Weird! Never noticed that before. Apemania says use black tooth enamel...

Look at that mottling on the fingers!

I'm going to start something easy, like first painting Zira's ears and matching it to the the film. It looked like her ears were a dark brown with a bit of olive undertones.

It's bugging me that my grease makeup from Monster Makers has not arrived yet! I found a costume shop in my town (I didn't think that was possible!) that is open tomorrow that sells Kryolan makeup. All I really need is the base makeup for my skin. I'm headed for the costume shop straight after piano lessons tomorrow morning.

Rewatching Planet of the Apes (again!) so I could study the color of Zira's face. I just noticed that after the surviving humans of the hunt were thrown into the ape wagon, when the gorillas shut the doors of the cage, it sounded like a car door.

I really hate that lipstick on Zira, which is most especially noticeable with a flash. I better repaint her someday.

I never even really paid attention to that. After all these years I've my Zira I never thought about it, but now that you point it out, it is glaringly wrong. It's almost as bad as Mego giving Zira eyebrows.

I ended up painting the appliance beyond midnight. Started late on it, but it was a lot of fun. I didn't really know how to paint it up. I had two types of rubber grease makeup makeup (Kryolan and Mehron). The Kryolan was easier to apply than the Mehron, which seemed super dry. I wonder if I warmed it up a little...?

Anyway, I tried a q-tip first, but I didn't like the results...then I used a fine paintbrush to get into the lines...and then I used my fingertips. I also had to resculpt the top set of teeth because what I got from Apemania was too long.

Angel, I started to upload photos to public album.

I found my collar for Zira's outfit, so I didn't have to spend any time recreating it. I've been slowly sewing down the collar onto the green outfit. Can't wait to try it on.

I've also tried out most of the hair pieces/wig I have. It's pretty dang hot under there!! I'm going to be one walking hairball that day. I also spent a lot of time yesterday augmenting to the side beards to soften the kinkiness of the hair.

I've got to finish the last Mego paintup I have, so I could send it out.

The faces and hair of all my Conquest gorillas were painted flat black. (I haven't painted this one yet.) It seems to me that the gorillas all have very dark skin tone in Conquest. Compare this for yourself to the other ape movies, and even the TV series.

Hasslein did you go to that ape party yesterday?

Yes. I guess you read about it being a birthday party in the yahoo groups. Cool idea for a party, but who invites strangers off the internet? The best part for me was the guests that weren't friends of the birthday girl were corralled in a room while they were setting up. (They were late setting up.) Jeff K sat next to me, for years I have seen him at ape events, but we've never spoken. He's a cool guy. Eric Greene was there, and he's always cool, but we all felt a bit uncomfortable about it being a birthday party... (As a side note, I'm avoiding the yahoo group, the constant Eric Greene bashing is so negative & petty, I don't read many of the posts anymore. Eric is a really nice guy, and it is pathetic how jealous some of the members are.) I didn't watch the film, I just watched partiers take pictures with the apemania guys, who were really funny, I think a couple of them had a bit to drink, or they just were acting, anyway, they made the party fun for the guests... There was a really cool cake that looked like Ursus, I didn't have my camera, but I'm sure someone will post pictures somewhere. I left after the drawing for door prizes, I'm sure the party went on long after that... Oh yeah, the guy to girl ratio was about 10-1.

Jessica

They have photos of the party at the apes Yahoo group. The Apemania guys are pretty fun. Did you know that Brian got his ape on? He played General Ursus because his regular General Ursus could not make it. Did you talk to Jeff B. also? He went with his son. That was cool though that it was an ape-related party. I saw photos of that yummy cake. It was beautiful!!

I guess when Apemania went to G4 to promote the Blu-Ray, Michelle's friends got the idea to hire Apemania for that.

Maybe you should talk to Brian and be an "extra" in case something like this happens again. Maybe you could get under the makeup, should his core group ever be unavailable... !!

Well it was still pretty cool for strangers to be invited to it. You never know who will show up, but it's kinda neat. Brian said that some people came from all over the place.

That's what I would have thought too, Dr. Z! But I guess it was an "ape-theme" party, so revelers were just humans. Apemania were the honored guests (they were hired to be in costume)...

My outfit is coming along. I found my missing fake leather collar for the outfit so I sewed that down today. I also added snaps to it. I now have to adjust the hem on the front.

I also gave Zira dental surgery with my Dremel. I used a paper towel to protect her face to form a dental "dam", but some of the paper towel stuck to the grease paint, and when I removed it, some of the paint came off her upper muzzle. I painted the bare patches over with some Pax paint, so she is again good to go. I guess her mouth wasn't closing properly because the teeth I made were too wide so I had to narrow them down to make sure I could at least close her mouth almost all the way.

I put on the entire outfit today. I looked super thin! As thin as I thought Carsia looked.

Yesterday I put on the wig and hair pieces...and I finished adding the hair to the sideburns so it doesn't look as "frizzled" as a beard does. It has been helping me to watch Roddy's home movies so that I could memorize how to put on the makeup. :joy

My aunt is visiting and I forgot to put away my Zira with the wig on it. She was staring at it for a long time. I'm sure she is excited to waggle her tongue about me to the relatives. I'm sure I scared the ape ^^^^ out of her. Whatever.

So for my outfit the only thing I need to do is sew the hem of the boots, paint up the hieroglyph from GoApeBilly and glue that, add deep pockets to the brown underdress so I don't have to carry a purse, add a pocket for behind the hieroglyph so I could have a pad of paper and pencil in there...

I am just waiting for the translucent matte powder I just ordered from Evilbay.

And, I also finished painting that Khan head today. Yay! So I can send that out with the Superman head I just painted last week.

I did learn a lesson from googling the stars names from fave shows/films of years past instead of their characters, it's very disheartening to see some now. Harper, Gil Gerard, Sam J. Jones, Jared Martin.....
More seriously, it would be great to get some kind of closure to at least one of the apes stories. I've said it before, I would like to see a top CGI company make a sequel. Harper, Naughton and Watson could do the voices. It could be done very well in today's realm of computer graphics, and it would be cheaper than actually filming actors and sets.

It really would be great to see a mini-series of a few episodes. Heck, it could go straight to DVD and avoid TV altogether. Of course, they would have to stay true to the TV series and the actual movies otherwise is wouldn't be worth a damn.

I was hoping to sell it for $250 back then and it was being sold with three different Conquest apes. If I remember right, the highest bid received was only $125.00. To me, that was very sad.

I doubt any network would invest in Harper and Naughton to carry a mini-series in the ratings in today's market. And, if they did include them, they would certainly bastardize it where one, if not both, now had kids on the planet tp "turn the series over to". That would suck and demean the whole point of the show. I do agree that a direct to DVD version could do well and stand by my idea of going CGI to make it work. Or, Stickman could do a whole 1:6 stop motion version.

!997, when Roddy was still alive, I had a Fox development execs ear for about a minute, pitching a Virdon/Burke script that merged the film/ television series/comic book storylines entitled "Exodus from the POTA." Two or three days after it was in his hands, a non related deal was made with Cameron's Lightstorm to produce a new film, so it was sol. Many elements were "lifted" by the Burton film, including a ship landing amongst the final battle in the forbidden zone, supposedly bringing the second coming of the Messiah (Taylor/Pericles.) Anachronistic, but too complicated to explain here.

Today I purchased my ticket for Wondercon. I'll be there February 28 (Saturday) if anybody is inclined to come. I thought that it was March 1 for the masquerade of costumes, but it's actually on Saturday night at 8:30 PM.

I'm planning to get up early that day...like six...and start the makeup process. I need to be at my girlfriend's house by noon to pick her up...and then we're going to San Francisco together. I've sewn deep pockets on my brown underdress for cash and my plastic nemesis and my cell phone and car keys. But I guess I still have to take a purse (I hate that!) to bring some liquid nutrition, and the small bottles of glue, and other makeup for touchups. I need to register by 2PM (because I missed the Feb. 14 deadline)! Didn't know there was such a thing. I thought you just showed up in costume!! And then I will be hanging out. I'm not supposed to be "seen" in makeup until the show but whatever! I'm there glued up. I may as well enjoy it.

And...no support whatsover from family at my end. They are dismayed at the level of effort into my obsession. At least they know it keeps me out of trouble. They should be happy at least they know where I am physically even if I am not there mentally!!

Egads, Milo! Those green boots are screaming to be colored brown. No wonder Angel kept telling me to color them brown. With the 1970s out about town outfit...yikes!!

I'm glad you got the outfit, but most of all I'm glad to know you love it. That makes me so happy to hear that.

Yes, the boots do need painting. It's amazing that they are so big too when the Zira feet and legs are tiny in comparison. My Zira really has floppy legs and feet and I want to get her some tights. I do love the outfit. It's perfect.

My Zira was prone to swooning, too...but I stuck some fray stop in her joints and that helped to tighten her up.

For Wondercon 2011, that's what I'm going to be. I have done it in 1:6 scale and 1:1 scale is much easier. The only hard part would be that I have no figure to trace. I have to lay the fabric onto the floor and lay down on top of that so I could eyeball where to cut. That's what I had to do to make my 1:1 Zira outfit.

Remember when I said that my Zira was a work in progress? Well she is!! What have I done??? What have I done???

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/zira038.jpg

I was trying to paint her up, but I was not happy with her hair...it just was hard to get into the mode when her hair was not working for me...so....

I decided to give her a haircut and restyle it, so it was more movie-accurate.

What do you guys think? Doesn't she look more like Zira? Don't you think she would look spectacular when I get her a new paint job?

So I bought some liquid nutrition to avoid having to touch up my teeth with black tooth enamel for Wondercon...trying it out today. I got some SlimFast only because it says it controls hunger for 4 hours. Controls hunger my ***! I've been starving since I drank it. Probably a mental thing...I've been thinking about food all day long. I'm such a nibbler. I really feel sorry for people who have to lose weight. Dieting sucks!!

O'kay! Take it from a former Marine. Trail Mix with MnM's, Chex Mix, and other things that You can pop in Your mouth. Energy drinks are good, but make sure that You have plenty of water. I like filling up a water bottle half way and then freezing it the night before and then filling it up the rest of the way before leaving home. That way You have cool drinks throughout the day.

What are you guys working on? I'm going to try to get back into mold making. Maybe I'll do one or two later...but thinking about mixing the chemicals is making me feel lazy. It's easier to paint...

And I also need to finish adding the pocket to my outfit, but I don't remember how so I have to research it on the internet.

A few more layers of paint and photographed in natural light. I still think I will add one more layer, though...bring back a little of the grey that is no longer as pronounced. At least top and bottom muzzle now match in color and overall the paint application is still smooth.

Actually started mixing some paints to see what happens when i try it out. I don't like the flesh tones I've been getting so thats a bummer. I've been lining up my headless or unclothed figures to see what I have in the works that way, but they all still need either the heads or the outfits returned to me so I can move on them I am hopefully getting a lead on some new heads which will be great once I get the skin colors straightened out I can, with any luck, get the base color down like an assembly line.

Wow, Ironman. When you're done...you will be such an expert! Maybe that's what I will do when I paint my apes...get an assembly line going. All gorillas painted up at once. At the moment though I just plop colors of paint next to each other and mix as I go. That's how I've always done it.

Did anyone here about that loose Chimpanzee that mauled a woman the other day. They said that it was 170 pounds and is 10 times the strength of a normal man. Is this true? Just to think that Roddy McDowell probably weighed less than that 170 pound Chimp.:horror

Jessica
02-21-2009, 10:03 PM
Kfog, yes, sadly I heard about it. The woman is fighting for her life. You can't really say that a chimp is 10 times more than the strength of a normal man, but a chimp of that size could easily lift 600 pounds without breaking a sweat. They're really dangerous. I did not read the whole article...it's too sad, both for the chimp and the lady.

I need to add Apoxie to her sideburns because it's too smooth compared to her hair that I added...and then paint that up. When I'm done she will really look like the Zira I have always wanted. Not that Sideshow Zira was bad at all, no. But this is THE way that I want my Zira to look.

So...if those Hot Toys apes look very horribly bad with their hair, I'm going to shave it off and sculpt it. :angelsmil I will probably leave Ursus's hair on him because the helmet will hide it. Not really sure until I have them in my damned dirty paws.

My Cornelius suit is actually a generic Mattel Ken suit that I've had for years. I cut the sewn-on shirt part off and added a better DiD shirt and tie. I was thinking black for the shoes too, but they are my only pair and I need them for his regular ape suit should I change him back.

I also finished my green jacket. I had to hem it up by a lot. It really was too low according to the photo references I had. Yay!! I just need to add two final snaps to the front of it.

Today I created the half-moon, and glued down the hieroglyphs from GoApeBilly...painted that dark brown with pax paint...I also put in a working pocket and made a small pencil. So I guess that's it as far as my costume. I'm done.

I'm still being very lazy to mix the mold making stuff, but I have to do it.

This is the hieroglyph painted up on my green jacket:

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/IMG_5792.jpg

I didn't like how it photographed, so I covered it up with the same fake leather of the outfit, and it looks better. The pocket runs pretty deep, so a regular-sized pencil fits in there nicely. I also recovered the half-moon with the same fabric, since the wash of pax paint on it was too shiny. It now matches the rest of the outfit and won't be screaming "look at me! look at me!" when it's photographed.

I'm going to have to create a nasal passage on Zira's foam latex appliance...going to take my husband's soldering iron and burn two holes from the inside of the muzzle. I heard it smells baaaad....and I have to do this outside...but it's raining. I guess I could do it on the porch, but I'm too lazy to go outside. I'll try tomorrow...still wondering the best way to do it...from what angle and whatnot. :(

I was watching the "Oscars" and was appalled that, when they went through the people that passed away this year, there was much applause for many people but a hush overcame the audience when Heston's name was announced.

There was little acclaim for his work.

Politics is one thing, but art is more important. Hollywood give the man his due...

NRA aside... Heston was one hell of an actor.

Rest in Peace Mr. Heston...

Count down for Wondercon! WHOO HOO!!

So...last night I zipped up my boots and I forgot to put a stop to the end of the zipper and the zipper head flew off...Tonight I will see if I can fix that or if I have to reattach a new zipper.

Good news...I was freaking out because I had a 2PM registration deadline to register for the masquerade contest at Wondercon since I missed their web entry deadline on Valentine's Day. I just received at e-mail that said I was "in" and to bring a photo of complete outfit when I arrive at the con! Yay!! That's such a big relief...didn't know how many hours it is going to take to get my ape on!!

And...my brother and sister in law are coming over this Saturday to see me in ape gear. They can't believe I'm going to go ahead with this. They were freaked out by the softness of the foam latex. They were REALLY surprised that the lips move when I talk even if it wasn't really glued onto my face yet. My mom was wondering when I was going to remove the makeup...I thought....NEVER??? :)

I also have Dr. Milo. I'll try to take photos if anybody's interested.

Next, I'm going to try to make a mold of my Sideshow Zira and Virgil. I think that's all I have enough supplies for.

So...in case anybody's interested, if you order a bunch of heads together, I'll only charge once for shipping.

I didn't get to Zira's mold tonight, because I had to start a new entrelac knitting project for my mom, but I did manage to test out Virgil's mold from yesterday and came up with a near perfect cast...just one or two bubbles to fill...and also fix the air chambers...but he looks splendid!

Here he is, all in one color now instead of what I started with:

Just pre-ordered the General Ursus Hot Toys figure. My first Planet of the Apes figure in my collection and it's a damn good looking one too!

Though the remake movie wasn't all that great, I thought Michael Clarke Duncan's gorilla character would make for an excellent figure.
