Angel - The flesh paint on Armando is perfect. The next one you paint, will you post a picture before you put the eyeliner on? I'm curious to see what he would look like without it.

I just mounted this newly painted orangutan head on the SideShow body with apoxy. Thanks for the ape head Snickertown. :)
Angel I think you should rework his glyphs with a simple orangutan one, not as fancy as the Minister of Science glyphs...and he will be perfect.
I encountered a cool new tool for the glyphs, and I was able to make nice ones for a Mego-sized Julius with 3D paint. I think that's the way to go for Megos. I used a pin to paint the hieroglyphs. Too bad I didn't take any photos before I sent it on its merry way. I'm eyeing my President of the Assembly Mego-scale. I want to try to get started on his crazy outfit.
As far as Cornelius's jacket, the basic shell is there. I still need to add the collar, and then will add lining (looks more professional with lining, plus it will keep him warmer)...wish me luck. Thanks for the photo references. They were great.

Hey Ironman - I saw your name on a list indicating you were interested in the Bill Murry sculpt from Ada. I hope this sculpt works out for you and the other Ghost Busters fans.
Thanks!! I am always interested in new sculpts, POTA or not. There's always a use for stars and background characters.
Your new apes look great. They really bring some needed variety to Central City. Armando's good too!!

Got the same email from Ada. I'm skeptical until she answers what she is going to do about Sawyer and Milla. I'll deal with the Bishop hair difference, for now at least.
No, I don't see Dodge in that sculpt.

Kfog--I don't see Dodge (or Landon) in that sculpt either. I was waiting for others to chime in first...since I don't consider myself an expert.
Yes, Angel--the new tool for me is a pin. I used the head of the pin to dot the pattern with 3D paint, as opposed to the sharp end of the pin. Works amazingly well. I'm going to try to re-do a Dr. Zaius minister of science glyphs...and see how it turns out.

Hello Jess! I received the other Burke Vest today and think that it is awsome. I like the poofier material and it looks a little more like the one on the TV show. Burkes Vest almost looks like a terry cloth "type" material and if we could make the custom vests the exact color as the TV version, then you could sell those on ebay. It is allmost like a light creamy yellow color if that makes sense. :D

I totally agree! I mean, I am interested in the Brent, Burke, Sawyer, and Morgan Freeman. But, who knows if they are the correct dimensions or not. Ironman is right about there being a difference when it is also the Burke face that is too small. Why can't Ada just listen to the collecting public and create a solid bond of trust that would last a life time and also make Him a lot of money?
Jessica

JESS - The final destination of the ship is an unsolved mystery even for the Yahoo group. The last thing I heard was: it was purchased by a restaurant and the restaurant burned down and it's believed the ship was scrapped. Brian P. from apemania might know.
ENAUD - We're thinking the same thing. I can't get over how big it is. I think the reality of a 1:6 ship has crashed into the forbidden zone.

snick-hey man,if there is a will there is a way.Seeing how big it would be to scale, one would easily have to sacrifice some serious square footage in their basement or garage.Besides,in the 1st 2 films you only saw about 1/2 of the ships...you said the key word..."crashed".In Planet, the front 1/2 was sticking up above the water & in Beneath, the rear 1/2 was burned up & mangled. If you want to be all fickle about being movie accurate(as well as cut corners)...you only saw the front 1/2 of the ship.My guess in 1/6 terms(& cheating a little on actual scale)you're maybe looking at the size of a couch(?)....OK,a big couch.
I've seen guys do 1/6 scale Star Wars ships over the years & you want to talk about impressive. It would be awesome for an ape fan to give them a run for their money.

OK...I guess we are affecting the sales of Ada's casts...so from now on, I am not going to say anything. We are spreading rumours, and it's not fair to her...so from now on, I will just keep my mouth shut. I said I wasn't going to write to her anymore, but apparently I don't listen to my own self and said, one more chance...I guess I like to get kicked in the shins. So, if I said anything to say that her scale was off, my sincere apologies.
From now on, I will let photos do the talking about her sculpts...and let others see for themselves. She is still a great artist, but a little strong-willed and one who can do no wrong.

Because you guys keep saying my heads are in worng scale, it also even affect my sales in other of my heads. No sale at all in the Burke head.
I know hot to shrink or enlarge the head, he use Hydrospan or Hydroshrink. It is just you guys keep spreading the rumer that the size of my heads are wrong which affect all the sales of my heads.
I replied back a day or so ago. I told her that we love our apes and take them seriously, and though I do not have her sculpt in hand, I sent her that photo with her pin-headed Burke sculpt. I replied back a day or so ago. I told her that we love our apes and take them seriously, and though I do not have her sculpt in hand, I sent her that photo with her pin-headed Burke sculpt. I have not seen her reply. I am waiting to see how she will reply that the head is the correct scale. Whatever she's taking, I want some too...
Last night I took pix of Burke alongside Taylor's head and Brent's head. The head with that insane amout of hair makes it appear to be 1:6 but the face is way too small and too thin. The head width didn't change since the 1st sculpt. I forgot my camera or I'd post a photo of it. On the brightside, the neck width is perfect.
Jess- Thx for writing her.

I think that is our duty as a support for each other to list any concerns that may affect all of us concerning moneys paid or possibly paid for a sculpt that should be correct in scale and detail.
Ironman, I wrote Ada about the Sawyer problem because I am supporting you in getting this corrected. I also want one!:D
Jess, Snick, Angel! Give yourselves credit for just wanting to get a correct sculpt for everybody. This is America, not China! We have the right to express our opinion and the seller should be listened to. Why pay for something that is inferior and not up to standards. :flag
Now, come on Ada! Enlarge Burkes face, so that I can buy a couple. After I get back to work, that is!

Angel, I don't know if it's your new paints, your improving painting skills or a better camera, but the head sculpt you posted look great! Armando, looks like a professional paint job to me. I'm trying to get my camera to work so I can snap a few pix of the Burke's and Sawyer. Wait till you see how small he looks, and he has no puffy hair to build up the size.
She needs to start with a properly sized, generic head first and build from there. She isn't taking the time to realize that hair doesn't count as part of the size of a 1:6, or any sized sculpt. A bald guy or a guy with an afro, the basic face size should be comparable.
Sawyer doesn't even measure up to the size she lists in her pic, and notice there's no ruler there to back her up.
Unfortunately, as she's in the Orient, the likes of a BBB are not going to help so our choices may be few if she does not respond or if she refuses to correct her errors.
More soon,....

Sawyer is a character from the TV series LOST
http://www.lostcastnews.com/images/josh-holloway.jpg

BBB stands for the Better Business Bureau. Not a route I'd like to take.

Ironman, you need to locate the macro button on your camera. It should look like a flower or tulip. If you press that, then you can take really clear shots and more close-up too. The photos are really great...both from you and Snick and the camera does not lie, blurry or not. I am going to forward them to Ada if you do not mind. She is a great artist, but she needs to know that fluffing up the hair is not the key to getting the scale appropriate.

Ironman, my contact, Mr. Enlarger from the UK can make your Sawyer sculpt more to scale. You should send it to him to get resized appropriately. It doesn't cost that much, you would be surprised. That Sawyer sculpt is beautiful by itself, but would look stupid on a 1:6 figure.

I really like how the sculpts look as far as hair style and neck size, but how in the world can Ada not see that the scale is way off on the face. I mean, is it that She doesn't want to admit her mistake or that She is making so much money that She no longer has to deal with the so called "little" people. Our money spends the same and it is her resposibility to correct what is wrong with the sculpts or it just appears to be not respecting the comments of her customers. We all should be getting what we paid for without deception!

Each of Ada's heads comes with a rubber "washer" for lack of a better way to describe it. That "washer" fits over the top of the neck stud and then the head slides on over that. It eliminates having to glue the heads on. I haven't been able to use it on any Sideshow bodies as of yet because the neck stud on those sits doen into the shoulders and could cause rubbing against the paint on the sculpt. But, for DML bodies they are great.

Welcome to you Mastermind! I'm looking forward to hearing more from you and seeing the customs you’ve created over the years!

Welcome Mastermind.
I have a few of the ApeJoe figures. They pale in comparison to what is available today, but, at the time, were the only apes in town.
On the Ada front, I just received this email response:
I will fix Sawyer, but there is no problem with the Milla head, I will not fix it.
So, I sent her these pix in an email:

Ironman - That response from her can't make you feel to good. Ask her if you can return it for a complete refund.
By the way, on an unrelated topic, did you ever finish making Kyle Reese (Terminator) in his long jacket and sneakers? I'd love to see that finished. Just watched the movie and he was an awesome character!
By the way, what's an apejoe figure?
No, its not exactly what I wanted to hear but I'll take getting Sawyer right as a start.
Alas, Reese still awaits his finished head to return from the painter.
ApeJoe figures were custom POTA figures made on a 1960's GI Joe base body sold by a guy named Polo Moreno out of Mexico.
Bet you can spot them in this pic:

I'm even kicking around the idea of making a mold of Prisoner Taylors feet so all the barefooted humans will have cool looking feet!):D
Thats a killer idea. Can SS figures' feet come off as easilly as their hands?....I never thought to try.

Coming from someone who has dished out some pretty incredible customs, that's really incouraging for me.Thanks Mark.

That's right, Polo used to sell through Toy Shop magazine. I am pretty sure that He lived in the Bay area, because I used to buy custom 1/6th Military items from Him. He just took too long to complete an order. He also used to have a website, but I have not seen that for years.

For Stickman's Video #15...does this mean that any and all votes received before 11:59 PST on July 26 counts...anything beyond that does not count for the contest? At midnight, Stickman's video was up by five votes...now it is down by more than 22, ten minutes beyond midnight...???

I feel so let down and cheated by this shallow and greedy little person. I'm sorry guys, I love you all, and thank you emmensly for trying to help me. I know it doesn't compensate for the loss, but you're always #1 here in Central City Sticks!!
The sudden surge of votes out of nowhere for a less than lackluster entry shows the inadequacies of the sideshow run contest. You should redub the dialog and put the video on youtube.

enaud - I'm not aware of the Sideshow feet coming off as easily as the hands. I really don't think they do buddy, but I never tried that.
Yesterday, I made a casting of Prisoner Taylor’s big 'ol feet. Once the new mold had hardened, I removed the Prisoner Taylors figures feet fromthe mold. Now that I had a mold, I filled it with resin and very quickly inserted my Bridgekeepers little feet into the liquid resin.
After the resin had completely hardened, I pulled on the Bridgekeepers legs to remove his feet from the mold. As the feet came out of the mold, his “new resin feet” had completely engulfed his old feet.
I'll borrow my daughter’s camera today and snap off a couple pictures.
Ah,gotcha.....Very clever idea.

I love UFO. I've been watching the series on DVD!! You have to post pix of you as Lt. Gay Ellis.
Is that mask able to be touched up to make it more realistic? One day I hope to have a full gorilla makeup/gear setup.
Jessica
07-29-2008, 08:24 AM
I believe that mask can be touched up to make it more realistic. If you use 3.3 elmer's glue or pros-aide, 3.3 acrylic paint, and 3.3 water, you can make a flexible paint perfect for masks. I will apply the paint with makeup sponge. I haven't tried it yet, but that's the formula I was given by a chemist friend who likes to paint Apemania masks!!
I really like that UFO series. I have the whole collection on DVD and have only seen one episode, but it's pretty good. I only bought it for "research" for my costume, but I like it as well. I already have my purple wig, I just have to trim the bangs...it'll be fun!! If the pictures don't look goofy I'll post them.
Here's what I'm hoping to aim for:

I just wanted to let you know Adam that Sideshow had your Contest entry running on their monitors throughout the convention... every time it played there were always people stopping and looking at it in amazement. Sideshow Ape sculptor Mat Falls said that everybody at Sideshow was blown away by it... it was everybody's favorite to win and I'm glad it did.
Mat was also totally taken aback by all of the custom work you guys (and gals, Jess :D) had done that was compiled for the photo album. He seemed truly touched by the gesture. He really seemed to like Snick's re-working of the classic Dr. Zaius with added hair and gummi glyphs as well as the hunt leader. Angel's ape wagon left him speechless. He was VERY impressed with Angel's process of opening Ape mouths. At first he thought those shots were "photo-shopped". Finally, although he said that he wasn't a big fan of the later films, he was REALLY impressed with the detail of Jess's Escape costume. I told him that a matching Cornelius suits was forthcoming.
All during the time I was showing him the album, he talked about finding some way to post these pictures up at the Sideshow website. Wouldnt that be cool if this happened? :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5
Although he doesn't like to post here at the Sideshow Freak Board (I don't think he is even listed as a member) I did extend the invite to look and read the great POTA Mega thread that has been created from his efforts. Hopefully he will chime in sometime in the future. :D

Although he doesn't like to post here at the Sideshow Freak Board (I don't think he is even listed as a member) I did extend the invite to look and read the great POTA Mega thread that has been created from his efforts. Hopefully he will chime in sometime in the future. :D
PZ - That is so cool! Thx! for the update.

Hey Proto, Did Matt mention anything about future Apes for Sideshow? Thanks, Kent.:monkey5
He did say that there is something in the works... but it is at the early stages it this moment.
Any details he gave me I felt they were given in confidence.

Very cool PZ...I am glad to hear that something is in the works. Adam's video should be a testament to all the ape love that exists...

Hey Ironman, I received a random email from Ada stating that She will replace all Sawyer Heads that were bought from Her for the corrected version! Are you aware of this? Later, Kent.:D

This is truly great news Proto!
The news about Sticks' Film, to me, was the most heartening. I'm glad to see that quality is still noticed and appreciated.
Glad to hear that Angels Wagon, Snick's gummy glyphs and Jess' Escape outfit along with Sticks' ape city were so well received.
And something in the works... At least they are thinking about it... I hope that, whatever the project, it goes forward to production pieces,

Thanks Kfog!! I was just catching up on my emails and had read that. Hopefully the photo I sent her of Milla will change her mind about fixin that one next.

Ironman, I thought you said Ada told you she wasn't fixing Milla...did you send her another e-mail? Are you still on her ignore list? I'm on her ignore list again...but whatever.
In the Ghostbusters Ada Chan thread, WST had mentioned that Ada will fix the Milla head. Check it out if you haven't already!!

I hadn't seen Milla mentioned as a fix in the GB thread. Last she told me it was fine, there was nothing wrong with the size of it. I sent her an email with the pix showing how off the size actually was and asking her to fix it as I've spent enough money and her not standing by her work and fixing Burke was enough of a loss for any customer.

I truly like the enthusiasm and the eagerness currently happening over at the GhostBusters thread. They all seem to be pulling together for some common goals. They all seem to be talking about current (and future) projects.
I wish we were more like that over here as a whole. It feels like we're all lacking “group goals” over here lately. Am I the only one who feels like this? This thread feels a little bit stale latley to me. Maybe I just need a break. It's probably just me.

Angel, please post what you are currently working on. I need some nice ape eye candy.
I am almost done with the ANSA outfits for the Megos.
I have to re-do the sleeves for Cornelius's suit. I didn't realize that there is a vented sleeve since the coat I based it on did not have that. I need to check out my husband's suits and see how they are made.

I guess we are lacking a common group goal. Everyone is working on their own ape customs and not working towards the same figure, as they are on the Ghostbusters thread.

I didn't see any Apes at SDCC... lots of Slave Leias though. :D

PZ, I found some apes photos and posted them at the Apes Yahoo website in an album that Jeff B. created. Wow. I can't believe that you didn't encounter any apes while over there!!

And I wore a POTA T-shirt practically every day I was there... hoping to talk with other Ape fans. No bananas. :rolleyes
But with an attendance of around 125,000 people, it's easy to miss a few apes. :D

ANG - We are in the process of getting Burke's head fixed. That's a common goal for a handful of us.
I've been busy with painting the wagon. The first set of wheels are finished and the first group of bars. Last night I started the rear wheels.
Jess - If you want to make another Cornelius suit I'll go in on that.

As stated, there seems to be more of "each to his own project" vibe here. Hey! Its not like we haven't tried. I put together the Urko head project. It got less buyers than votes. You, yourself were frustrated by different dealings with certain headsculpts.
The GB guys are doing, God I hate to use a Sideshow line, the core group of 'busters. We have our own Virdon's and those interested are getting Burke fixed. That leaves Galen, which you have I believe, and TV version Zaius from the series. From film there are definitely many more characters but getting our small group, (what's there like 10 constant members?) to agree on anything and getting enough funds for a sculpt to be financially worth the investment.....
I don't know about you, but I took a bath on Urko. Yes, it was a sculpt I really wanted to add to my collection, but the cost of getting him made in ratio to what got sold? Not even close to evening out.
Maybe I'll talk to WST and see how he's been able to get thru 7 sculpts and still be going strong.
Your wagon was a work of art, but for me and the year I've been having, extremely cost prohibitive. I'm not saying its not worth the $ and that you shouldn't get compensated for your hard work, just that big projects take big money and not everyone has big money all the time. It would have been fantastic had all of us been able to get at least one of them. Of course you may have been left pulling your hair out. LOL
Anyway, should we all try to put together a simian oriented group project? If so, what shall it be? I'll be in and out today and tomorrow morning, then off for the annual fishing trip with my F-i-L and B-i-L and this year is my son's first go at it. I'll be back late Sunday/early Monday and see where we've gotten.
Sound ok?

The Ada-bashing was not for naught! The outcome is that she will rescale the Milla head...and per Shat's Toupee, if there is anything off-scale, Ada will correct the problem as soon as possible. :peace I doubt she will fix the Burke at this point, as that is a sore point with her, but that is a pet project here for Snick and I. :monkey4

I watched Battle last night with my kids. My son noticed that there are a lot of orangutans in that movie. If you have a chance, you should check out the orangutan faces of that movie. They are all very very different!!

We weren't, I didn't think, bashing Ada but trying to show a seller that her product was not as she claimed and get it fixed to the proper specs.

You're right, Ironman. Artists are a finicky lot, and most suggestions to their work are interpreted by them as personnal attacks.
Jessica

Also, forgot to mention that Ada is going to replace wrong-scaled Sawyer heads with a correctly scaled one...so it's all good. I'm still pissy though that she made Angel pay extra out of his own pocket to rescale the Armando sculpt when it was her fault. That's so wrong.

Snick - Is there any chance that you might have a extra chimp glyph laying around for the Caesar statue? Denise moved all of my projects when I went to Baltimore and one glyph was lost. :(
Abso-tively. Can I trade you a wheel rivet for one? One of the rivets fell off the wagon wheel when I was moving it around and I'm not sure what happened to it. It's those little nail head things that are on the tire part of the wheel.
