I work until 10:00 at night, Eastern Standard Time. I just need to unwind before turning in.
Tomorrow looks to be a killer though... I'm in at 1:00 pm and out at 1:00 am. Twelve hour day. Uncle Sam will love it. He gets 1/3 of my pay ckeck.

I must first complete the Nova costume for Angel. Last weekend was wasted doing my taxes and running errands and cleaning the house.
It will get done... I just don't know when. Time, for me, is scarce.

Any chance of seeing those glyphs mounted on a Sideshow Zaius any time soon?
And I eagerly await any photo updates of the Zaius in Armageddon Garb. :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5
The Beneath glyphs are attached. The long glyph that sits in front is going to be reduced in size. I'm not 100% on the back and shoulder glyphs. It doesn't look right. The glyph that sits next to the back and shoulder glyphs are for the boot.
As soon as Matt S. gets this cast and mailed to me I'll post some pix. It might take a little bit of adjusting to get the SS Zaius Riding costume to look like it does in Beneath but it's nothing that can't be fixed with a lil' glue.
ANG - The wagon molds are looking great! I feel bad for the crew that have to sit on the sidelines or can't afford this one. This thing is going to be the corner stone of my collection.
JESS - Zira turned out great! You are a MEGO Master and have raised the bar yet again.

Snick, these glyphs are bloody awesome. I have nothing to say to critique them. I've never seen an actual photograph of them, so I can't really compare them to anything, but I can just imagine how they will look once on Dr. Zaius. If you can post photos that you used as references, then maybe I can tell what's off or not. At first glance, the back glyphs do not mirror each other, but perhaps they are not supposed to. They are absolutely so YUMMY! I can't wait for the photographs :monkey5:monkey5:monkey5

:chew:chew:chewJust wanted to let you guys know that my Valentine's day present to myself finally came--I ordered 2 General Ursus from Amoktime, and I'll be replacing the heads of this one with Angel's gorilla and the Hunt leader head (which I haven't ordered yet)...
My gorilla head probably is languishing in the mailbox. I didn't realize that there was postal service yesterday so I didn't even check. I have to wait until this evening to get to it, but I'm sure it's there.

As you can see, my wife gave me a few more apes on Valentines Day. (See pictures) The card she gave me was the Planet of the Apes Valentines Day card! Big surprise huh? (Taylor and Zira kissing) I have that on my desk at work for all to see. Sorry no pix of that here. Did any of you actually see that card yet?
I’m currently working on several projects today as you might guess. Aside from putting up molding in my kitchen and repairing a broken toilet, I’ve also been busy today with the Helmet of Ursus, the rear doors of the ape wagon, and improving upon the artful ape partition. Attached are a couple pictures that show the rear doors of the ape wagon as I put "rivets" in them. I predrilled some pilot holes and inserted the tiny nails into the doors. The nails are way too long and stick out on the opposite side. I’ll be cutting the excess nail portion off and then sanding the nails down really smooth just as I did with all the other nails - “rivets”.
My hands are going to ache from cutting all those nails…
Jess - Zira look awesome! You did a fantastic job with her hair. Let me know if your gorilla head shows up today. KFog wrote me and said both of his painted gorilla heads arrived today. I'm so glad. :)
Snick - Those glyphs look bloody well right!

Angel--instead of cutting the brass nails for the rivets, have you visited the craft shop lately? They have tons of stuff that I think you could use instead. The things I'm thinking about are "brads" and you can find them at the scrapbooking section. It might save your hands some work. The photo is somehow not attaching, but check out this link:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3022&PRODID=prd51204&source=search
You should check it out and see if the sizing is appropriate.
I saw a photo of the Taylor and Zira kissing valentine's day card, and I actually went out to look for it, but there was none to be had in these parts. Stupid humans. Can you tell me what music it plays? :monkey2

I was just thinking about this line and wondering if it was going to continue. I bought most of mine on eBay. I'd like to see Sideshow start a Premium Format line for Planet of the Apes and begin with General Ursus. The ape armor would look incredible in the 1/4 scale format. In fact, Sideshow could begin the entire line again with the major characters. I primarily collect Star Wars and have nearly all of the 1/4 scale line, but I wouldn't be able to resist a new 1/4 POTA line.
Welcome General! It's great to see a new name pop up in this beloved thread. :D
Glad to see someone else around here that would love to see a 1/4 POTA line. :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5
I don't know if you knew this General, but Sideshow had originally planned a 1/4 Zaius and Cornelius when they first rolled out the 12" POTA line nearly four years ago. They announced the line at the 2004 Toy Fair in NY. In fact, here's the portion of the original newsletter detailing their roll out:
* PRE-ORDER PLANET OF THE APES FIGURES EARLY!On a planet where apes talk and walk like men, and men are primitive animals, Taylor, an astronaut from Earth, is captured by gorilla soldiers when he crash lands his spacecraft. He is imprisoned and left in the care of two chimps, Cornelius and Zira. It's soon discovered that Taylor, unlike the other humans, can talk. Taylor is brought before Dr. Zaius, an orangutan, who fears the talking human could bring the downfall of the ape civilization, on the Planet of the Apes! Now you can pre-order the first 5 characters from our 'Planet of the Apes' line-up! Available are 1/4 Scale figures of Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Roddy McDowall as Cornelius; a polystone reproduction of The Lawgiver; and 12" figures of Charlton Heston as Colonel George Taylor, Kim Hunter as Zira, Linda Harrison as Nova, Dr. Zaius, and Cornelius.

That was back when the newsletter was all text and links.
I did talk to Mat Falls at great length at SDCC about the proposed 1/4 Ape line. I asked him how far did that line develop. He told me that the newsletter was WAY too premature in that announcement and that they were never sculpted. He really wanted the opportunity to sculpt them again in the bigger format. However he was pushing to have the heads sport rooted hair. That was the only way he wanted to do them. Sideshow was looking into ways of doing that when the 12" line stumbled (too many figures too soon) and the 1/4 was put on hold.
However, I've always wondered that there MUST have been some work done on them... maybe they didn't get to the sculpting stage but they MUST have been in some stage of the production pipeline... perhaps the development of what pose the statue might take.... :confused

It turned out to be simply a print omission on their part. :D
Also they mention that Nova was going to be available yet she wasn't released months later in that blasted two-pack. Apparently Sideshow was a bit apprehensive about releasing her all by herself.

Hi Dr. Zaius, it's so good to hear from you once again! That’s actually an Ursus head that now has hair on it. I haven't made a cast of that one. He's one of a kind at the moment.
You don't be afraid to pull their heads off. The apes’ heads come off real easy as long as you warm them up using a hair dryer. Once the "rubber" ape head heats up using a hair dryer, it becomes more pliable and flexible. Just grab the neck post in one hand and the warmed head in the other and pull. She’ll come off very easy.
The heads that I’ve made will easily slide right on the lengthy neck poll of the SS apes. I know you could handle it, just ask KFog, Jessica, PZ, Sticks or Ironman. I sold all them resin heads.
That round net was something that I made about a year ago. I drew a circle on a block of wood. I put nails along the circumference of the circle about 1/4" apart and all the way around the entire circle. I then wove the net to resemble a net that was thrown at Taylor during the 1st movie. It really took a long time to make. I do have some netting that I bought after making this one that I could send you. How big of a net are you wanting? I have plenty of netting.

That hairy Ursus is looking great. He should look very menacing once done. Is that doll wool? I want to do the same thing someday, but I wanted to use a thicker type of hair. It looks mighty difficult, though.
Angel, I got some news regarding taking a mold of the Zira head. It seems there is a great possibility that I would lose the original :monkey4, but would get a great cast that would be stronger and more resilient than the original. At this point if Zira falls on her hair (and she did that at least 5 times when I was taking photos because the wind kept knocking her down although she did not have that far to fall on cement), the work I did on it could shatter into a million pieces. Hard to believe that though since the Apoxie seems so bulletproof. :monkey4 Ugh. I have a lot to think about. Do you think I should pursue this? There is also a high possibility of losing the paint job on the original, but at this point I needed to touch her face up anyway and make her more sun-kissed. And the other plus is that I get to practice more as far as painting.

Jess... That hair seems to be crepe hair also known as doll wool, I guess. I have worked with the stuff and it is cheap and works well with the scale.

Angel, this is if I send out the head to be cast by somebody else. They said it might shatter when they take it out of the mold, and definitely the paint might get messed up and they couldn't promise me anything but a good solid cast in the end. They are probably thinking that I made the additional sculpt with Sculpey and not Apoxie.
I actually bought some material for mold making/casting, and it's enroute at the moment. Maybe it might be here by this weekend and I could try to be brave and cast her head myself. I'll see. Have you had your hair additions shatter at removal when you popped it out of the mold?

JESS - I have had the edges of sculpts break off when I try to get the original sculpt out of the mold. Just cut the back (of the mold) when trying to release the sculpt and you'll be fine.

I think the people who told you that really gave you some unreliable information. I can tell you if you were to buy the kit mentioned below, you would not have any problems. The apoxie will not shatter, Zira’s head will not shatter and the paint job will not get messed up. The rubber mold will be made of flexible silicine rubber and removing the head is actually pretty easy.

I found myself working more overtime last weekend for my boss (not Denise) in order to meet production goals for the factory. Because of the extra income I earned, I decided to buy some more supplies to gear up for the next BIG project.
Once I’ve completed these three Ape Wagons and the Tribunal Scene, I’ve decided that I’m ready to start building the church scene with the Doomsday Bomb as the centerpiece.
I just bought about $35 worth of plastic tubing (various sizes of course). I’ll be using the plastic tubing to construct the pipe sections of the pipe organ that are displayed just behind the Alpha Omega Bomb.

Yes, but Taylor is just a human...
Nova has GREAT eyebrows too, which probably is one of the major flaws of the SS Nova--the eyebrows on those do not resemble Linda Harrison's.
I have a b-day party to prep for, so major housework, major cooking, and unfortunately no crafting until tomorrow. I was trying to pop off Zira's head but it wouldn't budge. Guess I'm going to have to warm it up with a blowdryer.
Angel, when you make your mold, where do you put the pour spout for the liquid plastic? Do you use a stick to prop the head on and then cast it upside down or the other way around? I can't figure it out. On the how-to, I have to prop the head onto a stick which will create a pour-spout...but then how do you remove that on your cast...do you dremel it off? Does that make sense?
Anyway, I'm rambling and I really should get to work. Toodles, guys.

02-23-2008, 09:14 PM
Jessica,
1. When I make my mold I cut a channel into the rubber mold to allow the resin to enter the rubber mold. You have to pick the area that best meets your needs. i.e. That channel will need to be in the best possible spot. Example: Putting it over the face would be very bad.
2. I actually build a box about 1/2" bigger than the head using Legos. Once the box is built, I pour about 1/2" of rubber into the box and let it harden. Once the rubber is hard, I then lay the head into the Lego box with the face looking to the sky. At that point, I'll pour rubber into the box so that it passes the ears, but not quite to the face. I let the rubber harden overnight.
The next day, I cut little triangles (or cones) into the rubber within each corner of the mold. Later on, this will allow me to match up both halves of the molds, ensuring correct alignment. After the little triangles (or cones) are cut into the rubber, I treat the dry rubbers surface with something called "rubber to rubber mold release". The purpose of this is to avoid the new rubber from adhering to itself. [More on this in a moment.] Next, I pour some more rubber into the Lego box and now I can no longer see the face of the head that was starring up at the sky. I let this new rubber harden overnight.
The next day the rubber has cured. I unsnap the Lego box and I’m holding a square chunk of rubber in my hands. The mold will separate because of the coating of "rubber to rubber mold release" which I sandwiched between the pouring of the 2 mold pieces.
From there it’s matter of just removing the head and then cutting slots into the molds so the resin can enter through these channels. You probably need pictures. I’ll take pictures next time I cast a head so you can see the process.
3. No
Angel, I really liked your explanation. It makes a lot of sense to me. This is where I got the info for how to make a mold, and I didn't like the part where you had to cut the head out of the mold and pluck it out.
http://www.geocities.com/brothaj311/megohowto_moldmaking01.html
Westbatman, that was a very helpful how-to as well. This is a lot of info to start with, and I like both very much better than the how-to at Mego.
Just checking in real quick to see what's going on Central City. The party is now over for me, so cleanup tonight and finding space for all the leftovers. We had flank steak, tandoori chicken, rice pilau, kale for vegetables, scratch baked cake, shanghai lumpia, some kind of lentil dish and chapati. Some of the folks couldn't make it tonight, so tomorrow we are expecting company again. Grrr....I just wanted to do some crafting. It's been 4 days straight that I have not done anything. That's kind of unusual for me and it's making me go APE!!
Last night I went to bed early (at 11 PM)...and I woke up with a start at 2AM and couldn't sleep. Too many ideas running in my head again...

I would certainly plug up that hole in Ziras head. I spray a release agent on the items I cast so that they stick less. I used to spray the lego box but I've learned that the rubber doen't really stick to the Legos so I recently stopped doing that.

I'm confused KFog. I don't like all that glossy stuff on that one gorilla. If you look at page 469 that wasn't there before I shipped it. (Sticks does your gorilla head look all glossy as well?) KFog this needs some serious fixing, I don't understand why that one head looks so glossy in parts.
I was really surprised when it came in! The other one is so perfect! I have no clue as to why it was like that! I just figured that I could dry brush it a little and then it would be perfect:confused:

Angel, I was able to pop off Zira's head last night, in preparation for making a mold. I noticed that her vinyl head is hollow. Should I plug up the hole before laying her down for the mold? And do you need to spray some kind of release onto the lego box before pouring the rubber for the mold?
Jess.

That's about all there is to it. There's really no detail in the hair. Just use flat black ACRYLIC.
If you screw it up, just let me know. I either re-do that one or have to re-do him from scratch. :(

Angel, that is very cool. I actually have a kit that I can use to make a silkscreen like this. This would make a great t-shirt. Do you mind if I make one for myself? I am also going to make a silkscreen of a t-shirt with the Cornelius Che, if I could just find my artwork....

About a month ago we were talking about the similarity of the chairs in these 2 Planet of the Apes movies. What do you guys think?
Hey Angel to me it looks like they are not the same exact chairs. Taylor's chair cushions are complete circles while the Governor's chairs have cushions that are half circles.
They may be completly different chairs or they may have reworked the cushions.

Jess: Tell me about this kit... I may get one as well just to make t-shirts. Do I mind if you make one... heck no - go for it! I look forward to seeing the results. I know they used to sell a special paper that you could put into your PC printer and make the iron-on transfers. Wal-Mart used to sell these kits about 5 years ago.

Angel, here is a link for the kit I got:

The cool thing is that it's not iron-on. It's a real silk screen, and you will burn your image onto the transfer medium with sunlight. You just need a good laserprinter or photocopy machine to make a clean image...and then you need sunlight.

The picture cannot be larger than 8.5 x 11 inches, which is how large the silk screen can be...but do you think I should make the face of Caesar a little smaller in comparison to all the hair?

Jess - I'm about to e-mail you some pictures of Zira that may help you out.
Jessica

I would certainly plug up that hole in Ziras head. I spray a release agent on the items I cast so that they stick less. I used to spray the lego box but I've learned that the rubber doen't really stick to the Legos so I recently stopped doing that.
Angel, I couldn't figure out a way to plug up that hole in Zira's head, so my next plan of attack is to pour some liquid plastic inside her head to fill it up... and then put some apoxy once I have a "floor" for the apoxie to stand up on. I kept trying to plug up the hole, but the apoxy kept falling inside the cavity.

Kfog, that doesn't sound right. I saw the listing, and they said that what they were selling was the Marauder, of which only 4000 were made. If you got the standard gorilla, maybe they were hoping you wouldn't notice...And you say you got five of them? Sounds like you are building an army...

I worked on my ANSA suit last night. I have to re-work the right front panel (take it off and resew it)...but it's coming along. I don't know how I'm going to do his collar, but I'll work it somehow.
I was originally going to use separating doll zippers, but the smallest I could find are still too big in scale and would look goofy. I put a lot of detail in the sleeves.
I also had to sew the pockets on the pants by hand because my sewing machine kept giving me grief by chewing on them...
That's it on my ape front.
Jess.
Jessica
02-28-2008, 09:37 AM
Dang Jess - That looks to much like real work, but it's coming along very well. Is that a Mego figure or a 12" figure? I think I've got a TAYLOR nametag you can iron-on, and an ANSA patch if you need it.
It's a Mego...Do you have the iron-ons in that scale? I'm sure it would be so much easier on 1:6 scale, but if I'm buying anything else 1:6, unless it's a body for Armando, it's going to be an ape. I've been studying the costume for a long time and finally decided I'd better just finish it. :monkey4
I haven't seen an ANSA costume in Mego scale that I was satisfied with yet, so I thought I would up the ante. Also, I haven't been able to do any crafting for a few days, so it felt GOOOOOOOD to finally do something last night.
I seem to feel rested today--maybe because I got some crafting time??. Last night I went to bed at midnight, and even though I woke up somewhere around 3AM, I was able to fall back asleep before the clock chimed 4AM.

Should you expect to get the same item as pictured? In a word, no. I read the auction description and no where does it state that it's the Ape Marauder. Plus, it states that the figure was limited to 4000 when the Marauder, as you know, was limited to 500. Besides, they used a stock photo... had it been an amatuer photo, I might think differently. Given all that, if I saw the listing, I would immediately assume that he/she had the regular Ape Enforcer but mistakenly used a exclusive picture by mistake.
Many times on Ebay you get sellers that have no knowledge that there is an alternate version of these Sideshow POTA figures... therefore they are innocent of any misrepresentation. I've found this to be true in my hunt for more Forbidden Zone Zaiuses.:D
I believe that the world of Sideshow, with all of their exclusives, is somes too complicated for the casual Ebay seller. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

Regardless of it not saying Maurader, it is still deceiving when they have a picture of the maurader and not a picture of the more common Gorilla Soldier. If you wish to believe you were deceived on purpose that is your choice.
To me it's obvious... the seller perfectly described the "Ape Enforcer" but accidentally submitted a stock photo of the wrong figure. A rather small picture of the wrong figure, in fact. Only a trained eye could have spotted that is was the Marauder. Were you hoping that the seller had the rarer version and they didn't know it? I think so. The seller certainly didn't say anything about the figure being one of only 500. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3
I would venture to guess that the seller isn't even aware of the "Enforcer" and "Marauder" distinction... few do. Jess didn't. Sideshow didn't make it easy on either seller or collector when they decided package both figures using the same box... refering to both figures as "Gorilla Soldier". They do the same for several of the POTA exclusives... Astronaut Taylor, Dr. Zaius, Brent exclusive and regular versions each share the same box. This can result is much confusion. Honest confusion.
People are capable of making honest mistakes.
I think it was this very confusion that you were hoping to bank on. If you wanted to clear it up, a quick email to the seller would have did the trick. But you didn't alert the seller to the discrepancy between description and tiny photo. Well, the rolled the dice and lost. At the very least you now own 5 more Gorillas!!! That's WAY more than I have. Consider this monkey jealous. :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Well Ironman is still posting at this forum... just not on this thread. I don't think he has posted since "the big meltdown."
I've ordered the shirts "Welcome to New York" and the original poster graphic with the human cage and Dr. Zaius. I got lucky with the latter since it also has been lowered to only $8.99 before the discount. :D
I might order more... I just can't spend too much. I need to save a bit more for some actual Sideshow Apes. By the looks of everyone pictures, I'm sorely behind.
I'm also thinking that for my visit to SDCC this year that I might get prints made of all the custom work done here on this thread of the Sideshow Apes and show them to Mat Falls at the Sideshow booth. I think he would get a BIG kick out of seeing all of the stellar work... the Mutant Jail dio, Stick's Ape City, and Angel's STUNNING wagon as well as Snick's customs.

Is this for the classic Zaius glyphs or the Armageddon Garb ones? Either way, I'm in! :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Proto - My parents are visiting from NY this weekend and my wife had me take all my "monkey business" downstairs so we could use the dining room. Just for giggles, I put the Lawgiver beside The President of the Assembly and Dr. Zaius at the long table. Wow! It looks great with 3 orangutans sitting there! The Tribunal is going to be much better than the Ape Wagon in my opinion.
Yes, I've been monitoring your progress of that tribunal... I've been VERY impressed with your results. So much so.. that is why I changed my signature pic to one of the tribunal. I have orangs on the brain, thanks to you!:monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Hello All,
I feel as though I have been away for a very long time. My brother came down with the flu, so It's been a rough couple of days. My city project is on hold until he is healthy again, I must say that it is huge, and still seems too small.
The tribunal scene better than the Wagon? Oh Angel, how could you say that? :lol
Oh by the way, Angel do you have the (L+W) of the wagon? When set construction resumes I want to make sure I leave plenty of room for that prop.
P.S. glad to see that this thread didn't close.

I'm afraid that you are going to have to score an exclusive Zaius to use those gylphs, Jess. The regular version of Zaius has the same Ape feet that Cornelius and Zira have. Also he comes with the glyph gloves that are also part of the Armageddon attire instead of those hairy paws.
I don't think he is going for too much on Ebay... not as much as the Mutant Jailor or Forbidden Zone Taylor for some reason.

I have a backup plan...I'm going to make my own leather riding boots for my Dr. Zaius. I will use my marauder gorilla soldier boot as a model to get the appropriate sizing, and then I will wet the leather myself and pin it to death on a structure with the toe dents so that I could use those glyphs.

> I'm now getting sick. :monkey4 I'm not sure if it is going to be the flu or another cold that is sweeping the NW. :sick Ohh, this is no fun. My whole body aches and my nose is running a race I can't win. To top things off my little mouse pet I found outside last year blew his eye out. The whole eyeball left the socket and his head looked as if it was going to explode. :horror
I rushed him to the vet last week and he is doing better now, no tumor found last time. So this old, sick and broken man needs to bring the little guy in for a follow up tomorrow. I wouldn't have shared this gruesome fact unless it had a happy ending. Maybe it's time to switch his name from Wilbur to Popeye.
Jom thank you so much for this tip. I'm glad I stopped in tonight before taking my sick self to bed. I will look into this. I will need to look at the deadline. I get my lighting package in about a week or two. I ordered a couple of the Mole Richardson (Inbetweeinie, Betweenie) lights from B&H.

I like the tunic and Gaunletts that I received from Matt Sotis/Snickertown. They really compliment Angels Gorilla sculpt. (The whistle is Angels and the Club was made by Snickertown). Hi Jess! Yes, that is a naked Zaius figure. I was comparing the SS version to the 10" figure standing next to him. I think that the 10" figure would be the perfect size for a Teen Chimp such as Lucius. On the Gorilla, I would like to dye/change the purple shirt and pants into a darker Plumb color to match the movie version. The plumb color may need a tad of brown to be correct. I wish you luck on the Astronaut uniform!

My ANSA outfit saga continues...I re-did the entire top. I extended the jacket portion. The front of the jacket now looks more finished. I also changed the color of the thread for the topstitching--it is now a pale grey, so it would stand out more. The back needs a little tweaking, but it's looking great so far. The front pocket and the front top stitching for the angled part of the jacket I had to sew by hand because it was too small for the sewing machine and I didn't want to risk puckering the fabric.

Yes, i'm producing the classic glyphs as well, but your's will have to ship seperately as i mailed your Beneath glyphs today. Don't worry, your covered. I should have the test pull for the classic glyphs out of the mold tonight, so pics should be forthcoming. Matt
Matt, I sent additional $$ for Dr. Zaius' Minister of Science glyphs.
Jess.
PZ, I think fabric glue is best because it is quite flexible. I have had great success in gluing rubbery stuff onto fabric with fabric glue.

What is meant by the "classic glyphs"? I know what the "Beneath glyphs" are. Does Zaius have some glyphs in the first movie? I'll have to check that out. Wait a second, classic glyphs are on the the coat of my Sideshow figure. Were they redone by someone here? Snick? Matt? Did I miss pictures?
I only saw these...

Did I miss pictures? None available yet. Snick had commisioned his sculptor to create both the Zaius glyphs from the Beneath outfit and the outfit from the first ("classic") film. I molded the "classic" glyphs this weekend and are just getting the first run out of the mold now. I'm still experimenting with the color, so as soon as i have a set completed, i'll have pics so you can compare them to the sideshow figure.

Speaking of sculptors, attached is the first photo of the Icarus chair. It's being made in such a way that it can be reproduced.
Matt - Thx for handling the glyphs!

That looks Marvelous Snick! (Looks like Apoxie Sculpt is being used again. That's the stuff miracles are made of.) :monkey5:monkey5:monkey5

Snick--are you making the chair yourself? That's very awesome. I wonder how the metal parts of the chair will be...I'm getting excited, too. Too many ape ideas running through my head now!!! :chew
I worked on the hump on the back of my ANSA suit---I have tamed it! The bottom edge of the jacket is now even all the way around, and I didn't have to start over from scratch. I took apart the side seams and the rear shoulder seams just up to the top of the sleeve on both sides of the jacket and re-sewed by hand. There is one minor lump left from extra fabric at the base of the neck, but that will be taken care of when I attach the collar. Good God this sewing is quite a challenge...

Jess - The guy who sculpted the glyphs is making the chair/cockpit.
ANG - The chair is made out of an oil based clay. I'm going to have to mold it and cast it. Your photos made the job much easier.
I'll post a photo of the fabric glue that I'll be using.
ANG & Jess Thx for the kind words regarding the chair. I'll keep the pix coming.
Jess - Great job taming the ANSA jacket!

Wow, so much work being made in this thread. I'm feeling better now, and can't wait to resume with Ape City. I am hoping to have some test shots up by early next week.
I am crossing my fingers to begin filming on the 17th, St. Patty's Day. I'm a true O'Dell (just lost the ' coming through Ellis Island) and we put down the O'Douls on this special day, so I'll need to be careful. :lol
Snick, those Glyphs rock.
Jessica great job on the jacket, it's really coming along nicely. Great stitch work, and Thank You! That was so nice of you. :D

Proto...
I'd be honored if you showed him shots of my Nova Costume and "New York is a Summer Festival" Poster!
All this great work needs to be seen by a Sideshow Rep. Maybe... Just maybe... They'll see such a strong core interest in the franchise that they may consider re-launching the line!

I forgot about that poster, Jungle--that was a beautiful piece of art that you did-how could I forget that one? And of course your Nova outfit cannot compare to the original Sideshow...it does the movie justice.
I just wanted to show you guys how far I got making my Icarus paper model before I decided it was dead in the water. I kind of messed up the sides and gave up halfway. :monkey2 It looks beautiful though, even though it's not complete. Guess anything Planet of the Apes related is beautiful to me. I think I need to reprint and re-do when I am more focused. Anybody ever put these paper models together? Looked easy at first but it's a difficult task. Maybe I needed better scissors, but I wasn't about to use my Gingher shears on paper...
Guys, I think I am almost done with the ANSA outfit! I just need to add another snap on the front of the jacket and sew the belt of the jacket on. I completed embroidering the fake pockets on the pants and managed to sew a mandarin collar on it this evening. I can almost smell the finish line...All I have to do now is paint Colonel Taylor's head. Do you think I should add Forbidden Zone dirt onto the outfit (like on his elbows and knees) before I take his official portrait and call it a day and move onto my other WIPs?
Ugh...I forgot I have to make him a backpack too...
Jess.

It's the sigh before the storm. This Icarus project is insane. Last night the sculptor said: It's not too late to bail! I know he's intimidated.
Jess - The paper Icarus looks fantasic. I hope that you return to it.
Jess - My vote would be for the clean Taylor. You can always dirty him up.

Angel do you want me to send you the Icarus model so you can try it yourself?
I forgot that my Taylor also doesn't have any shoes and that's another something I will have to rig. The weekend is almost here--hurray! That means I can definitely start trying to paint his head and will have natural light to work with.

Snick, WHAT EXACTLY are you making of the Icarus? :google There are so many components within the Icarus--I'd be scared, too.
