Okay, we have an Aliens thread and we have a Predator thread so it seems only right that we have a Terminator thread!
We have plenty of Terminator stuff to talk about, the recent T-800 & T-1000 from SS. The Endo coming soon from HT, and Sarah from SS.
So I figured I would start a Terminator thread.
To start it off, heres some pix from my Kyle Reese from HTs Terminator line I recieved today.

THIS is the reason why Dave just needs to make an Aliens/Predator/Terminator forum.
Great pics Chase.
I love my Kyle, making a Custom Later Battle 84 T1 Kyle too and
Custom Technoir and Police Station T 800 with light up eye by Hurricane.
AND hunky Artist may be doing a T1 Sarah big hair HS when the T2's come out
Those are some nice pics. Pretty much the only fig I wanted from Terminator is the Endoskeleton, but those pics have me thinking about trying to pick one of these up.

Dude, you won't regret it, you can still pick one of these up for around 100... then they'll shoot up once the Endo comes out. I got an extra Kyle outfit to do another Resistance soldier AND get this... I am doing the first Ever Custom Franco Columbo T1... already have the 30 cal... I'll have Hurricane mod it and add a laser... Kyle needs to fight him too...
Dekdave is doing a Future John Connor too... from the opening seq of T2. I might too if I can find an appropriate HS...

Chase, you gotta post pics of your T-800, they're the reason I ran off and bought one!
That Kyle Reese is awesome! I think I'm going to get one to go with my T-800 and Hot Toys Endo. Now I just have to get a Sarah Connor Exclusive.
Speaking of which, wasn't the HT Endo supposed to ship in March? Any word on that?
HT Endo sometime in May last I heard, next month, in Asia, not US... but Toy Square will have them in North America...

That's nice D!
I have my Later Battle Reese almost done, just need to have his trench dyed navy blue, have detailed Nike sneaks too, even the silver swoosh will be added, and the shotgun. Gonna use my HT Hicks FML repaint for his head, wrap his arms with bandages and he'll be ready to go... still need to saw off his shotgun...
Then, figure out how to make pipe bombs, gonna need them for the Endo...
Btw, Hunky's gonna do up a T1 Sarah HS for us!

I hate to be the dissenting voice here, but I'm disappointed with both the T2 figures . The headsculpts are O.k, but the body shape and clothing just look too..well, TOY like! The T-800s jacket is particularly poorly tailored .
dekadentdave
04-04-2007, 12:16 PM
You could always upgrade the jacket and pants to the Saturday Toys real leather versions with the threads. I think the Sideshow jacket is fine once you paint the silver zippers like pjam did.
Yeah, tell it to HIM. :lol

Thanks. The trenchcoat is from a Connor MacCleod dyed with a mixture of gray and green and a 12 gauge with sawed-off stock and cord tied around his arm and barrel like in the film. The Nikes I found and painted the swoosh white. Pjam says it's silver but I thought it looked white. Anyway, I dig my 20th century Reese. I have him in my "Come with me if you want to live" pose.

Looks great Dave,
Yes those Nike's were black and have a silver swoosh. Batty confirmed it last year, he had the same pair, and provided a screen cap (see Kyle in dressing booth when he put them on). The swoosh is silver with white border. They also have a thin white band around the high tops... I'm gonna use a thin adhesive tape strip for that.
dekadentdave
04-04-2007, 01:38 PM
Thought that was from the lighting at night. The daylight shots they look navy blue with white swoosh.
Hard to tell from this shot though. I'll try to find a better screen grab but I already had this one on file:
http://home.mho.com/decadentdave/reese.jpg
Screen grab it from when he was in the dressing booth, close up of the Nike's there. I had this same conversation with Batty last year, like I said he had this same pair back in the 80's.

thanks dekadentdave
for those having trouble with the T-800's jacket, try twisting a metal wire together until it becomes firm, and stick in under the jacket at the bottom. the material is folded on the inside, so you'll have 'pockets' on the insides of the front. put one edge of the wire into one side, run it all the way round the back and put the other end into the other pocket. you'll need to find a position where it will stay, and then you may bend the wires accordingly and make the jacket stay open.
you can see just a bit of the silver wire i used here...
http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/3582/img2647ni1.th.jpg (http://img77.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2647ni1.jpg)
voila! my jacket initially came wrapped around his torso covering the belt completely.

It's very hard to tell since there are no really good shots of the Nikes. The best daylight shot is when they come out from the bridge. When he's hanging from the fire escape the swoosh looks white. In the phonebooth you can see a reflective silver tape on the velcro strap but I don't really see it on the swoosh. Anyway, it's close enough for rock n' roll.

It is really hard to get black gloves, places like Monkey Depot only carry hot toys hands, so I just looked for people looking to dump Sideshow figures who have gloved hands. I went to a Comic Book Convention near me and someone had a ton of VAN HELSING figures, I bought 2 of them for like $20, and swapped the hands, then just sold the VAN HELSING figures with Arnies hands to some friends. Other figures from Sideshow that should work are the OHMSS Lazenby Bond, Ebonite Interrogator, Human Spike, Nazi Kroenen and Van Helsing, but I wouldn't reccomend using Human Spike or Nazi Kroenen. Good Luck.

HT probably wants to keep business good for their past U.S. distributors, by not giving it right away to SSC, you could boost business for other disti's who get people buying from them cuz they want it sooner and in cases, cheeper.

Oy... since Sideshow is taking so long, I broke down and ordered one from Ebay (HK seller). Will post pics once I get it!
I ordered three of these Masterpieces From DSC, it will come out to about 112 each shipped. I can wait, but if any of you guys NEED ONE NOW I recommend Toy Square, they should have them in next week, figure close to 150 shipped... BUT you get it in April.

$35 for overseas shipping from HK... man that sucks! That 1 endo alone will cost you $170. I have mine coming from Toy2 with combined shipping of $22. I have more on order from Sideshow but I can wait for the rest of the army.

If they're already out in HK then it won't be long before Blister gets them here in Japan...I know they're gonna be like $150, but after seeing that jaw-dropping preview pic, I just can't wait to get my hands on one! :monkey5 At least I won't have to pay any shipping.

I kinda had the same reaction, but was a bit timid to type it out on here lol. It's nice to see, even though that is SSC T-800 head only, that the Endo should be in just the right scale with the SSC figure, going to be very nice having this one. I assume that if you turn the eyes on they'll stay on and it's not one of those have to hold it in switches?

Yes it is, my question was how it would operate, if like you hold it in and it's light as long as your finger's on the button or like, push it once, eyes on, push it again, eyes off. I'd assume being this sophisticated a toy, it'll stay on without your hand on the button. As for it being the best 1/6 figure ever, I won't argue that it's not, but I do think a big part of that is that it's one of the most intricate and complicated film characters ever, I can't think of anything as complex, so it really has no competition at all, but it is great to see the minute work put into, down to the smallest detail, I just hope those fingers aren't too fragile :(
there are pictures with the eyes on and no one holding the switch. i think its safe to say you push the button and the light stays on....

there are some excellent photos in here, and boy do I want one of those endos! *drool*
I got myself a SS Arnie head in a trade recently (which I'll be working on.... obviously, lol) so I went and ordered some gear to build myself a Terminator figure. The stuff (most of it) arrived over the last couple of days....
The Biker Leather set that we've seen other people using (which is amazing by the way), a Toy Soldier male body ( i looked through dozens of body types and picked the one that looked the most Arnie and human like in proportions. Most customs use the biggest widest most muscular body that they can... Arnie was nowhere near that huge in T2.... so the right body choice was important for me).... and a pair of leather boots from Hong Kong.
I've got the body together here and I'm really pleased with how it looks, all I need to do now is to work on the head when I get the time... find a shotgun (or other suitable weapon), and find some sunglasses that match those he used in T2. (and maybe T1 eventually as I'll be doing a T1 version of Arnie)
So.... sunglasses... shotgun.... and get my head done then I'll finally have a decent Terminator figure! which is a big thing for me as I had no plans to buy the SS figure (any of them) because I'm trying not to buy things... but getting this head in a trade really spurred me on to buy the gear to make a custom.... and y'know what? I've had so much fun putting him together piece by piece myself :D

How structurally sound do you think this figure will be? The reason I ask there are are a lot of very thin pieces of plastic (especially the pistons) and I could see a tumble or even posing wrong doing untold amounts of damage.
I have the Aoshima version it seems like to would be a more stable figure and less prone to breakage. But I do think this figure wins out in the appearance category. It really is amazing and (at least from the photos) looks more brutal than the Aoshima.
Yes, like Robocop, you have to be somewhat careful with some poses... that's what the stands are for, free posing adds risk of course...

ha... "that dude" was my endo! (but i had it painted by someone else). yeah, it looks FAR better chromed out... i can only imagine what that hottoys one would look like with the same treatment.
Maybe the second wave, which most of us are getting, will be chromier. HT always leans towards improving their figs in subsequent runs... :monkey1

Personally I was very happy with the 18" version, other than the paintjob. But a quick repaint fixed that. The 12" Hot Toys version seems to have upgraded the hand and foot articulation.
18" with some slight damage and rust:

Where do you live? Did you get a heads up it was arriving? Who did you order it from?
got it from a local shop. didn't order it from sideshow if that's what you're wondering. the endo just hit shelves in asia less than a month ago... probably take another month or so from then to reach north america

from afar, they do look similar. but once you've held the HT figure, you'd forget about neca. man, each finger has 4 points of articulation...

I noticed that the cabling on the endo is the same coiling metal cable used on the Predator helmets and has a tendancy to rust. Does anyone know where to buy that kind of cabling should it need to be replaced?

i recently saw an ebay seller selling a pair of those cables which are supposedly stainless as opposed to HT ones. they're meant to replace the HT cables. they went for $10 but i don't see them around anymore. keep a look out, they may come back
i'm glad i haven't had rusting problems with mine... and i hope i never will

Yeah the finish looks screen accurate. You don't want it too chromed. Mirrored chrome would be too much. It's more of a steel chrome finish.

By the way, Mine shipped from HK last week.
Due any day now! :chew
And yes...STEEL! Not chrome. Never liked those old chrome styrene models that were nice, but small, 1/9th I think, back in the day. A buddy had one. I liked it, but I met a guy at a con in LA back in 1995, that painted a nice resin cast 1/1 Terminator head, and he had used some kind of graphite paint, and polished and layered it a lot, polished the hell out of it...buffed it a lot, and that thing was SMOKIN' BADA$$! MUCH better than any chrome ones. I feel I have to always dirty up anything that's chromed.
But anyway, I bet a nice wash/wipe of steel and black on the whole thing, and then a light drybrush of steel or silver, just to hit high areas, will make it look metal enough. It actually looks pretty good. It's just too uniform a silver. That's what makes it look plastic. You can push the metal effects using darks and pure metal colors, and they look amazingly more metallic, without all that expensive chroming.
Or not! :lol
Just an idea.
I'll know more when the little bugger's on his base, standing in front of me...eyes all aglow....

Just got my Endoskeleton from that guy on Ebay (shipped from HK).
Theres an issue with the batteries being very loose inside the compartment, which makes weak contact points. So if you notice your endo's eyes dont light up or dont stay on, just wedge a piece of paper in the compartment to push the batteries againts the contact points.
Yes, he is quite fragile. The fingers are the most fragile, followed by the limited movement on the wrists, angles and neck area.

Those pics are awesome! Funny though how SS's T-800 Arnold is taller than the Endo when actually they should be of equal height. That's what happens when you have two different companies making them. I'm tempted now to just switch the head over to a Hot Toys NGL body for consistency.
KamenGuyver
04-15-2007, 08:24 AM
I think HT Endo and SS T800 are perfect in scale. Don't forget Endo doesn't wear boots. If you let HT endo wear boots and give endo some hair, both of them should be about the same height.

And I think they are proportioned just right, like Kamen said Arnold has boots, hair, and flesh. So I would think he would be a bit larger than just and endo.

I too agree for the same reasons already mentioned. Plus, the Arnold T-800 also has massive muscle tissue over the Endoskeleton, so that adds some mass and a little height as well.
Darth Madden
04-15-2007, 09:10 AM
I guess after looking at it the T-800 arms are a little shorter than the Endo and it should be the other way around but if you bend them a little it shouldn't be noticable. They still look awsome together.

Well, if you account for the heels that Arnold T-800 is wearing, plus a little flesh between his metal feet and shoes, and the hair...it's about right. Close on the arms too.
It works for me.
Truly awesome photos! I laughed enough when Endo beat Robo, but the next shot of Reese with his hands up like "Whoa nelly!" has me in stitches! :lol

Why don't 1/6 companies make Ray Ban sunglasses? I would have thought they'd be really popular. I might end up having to make my own....urgh lol

It's a Terminator Revolution going on!
Anyway, since some have postulated anyway, my figures recipes are easy...most you guys have figured out...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a10/angremien/HTEndo002.jpg
T1 is a Soldiers of the World body (Great chest and good posable arms!), the Frontline head, HT T1 gear and glasses, a dragon gun.
T2 is a reworked big boy body, SS attire, repainted belt (they weren't that light brown), HT bag, minigun & belts, Van Helsing hands, painted Dragon bandelero, and DID grenades, Hot Toys grenade ploop gun.
T3 is standard SS body (chest looks more like Arnolds in T3 to me), a head I got on Ebay (don't know the sculptor, but it is a dead on OLD/almost Governator Arnold), and the rest is Popsalute clothes (Thanks Amarcord!)
Endo is...HELL ON WHEELS! Get you some! :rock
T2 T1000, SS...repainted...
Coming soon:
SS Sarah,
Custom 1984 Reese
Custom TX (Looking for a Popsalute...REAL BAD! :D )
Might take a stab at a custom John Connor....
