I think each of the TWO different Guard packages comes with two heads... so 4 total.

I think each of the TWO different Guard packages comes with two heads... so 4 total.

Unless the differences are very minor, they both seem to come with the same 'plain' head. One version has the 'hat' head and the other the 'pointy' head as exclusive heads to each version. But they both seem to have that plainer head. Again, maybe I'm just not seeing the subtle differences with them. It took me a few weeks to even realize there was more than one helmet for these guys :lol

Between the two, this looks like a better buy than the other one.
Will wait on the movie to see if they end up somehow being awesome to make me want them... but it's cool that they included the alternate head/weapon as opposed to just milking 4 different figures.

When the one with the curvy blade gets unmasked its going to be Asajj.

I was also a bit confused what they were doing here with the heads and weapons per figure. I mean they call one "with heavy blade" but show pics of him with a whip ??? But I think it's clear multiple heads for one figure.

Wonder if they will use the sane fabric for the Imperial Guards. THat's who I'm waiting on.

I won't be getting them. No points for originality, but they do look really cool.

Yes they do look good. I think HT made a wise decision not to make 4 different figures. I don't see them selling a huge amount of these.

I don't see them selling a huge amount of these.

HT doesn't either ;) But in all seriousness they are probably being careful in how they release things now considering what happened with their TFA line. Not sure if it was the amount they made or sales.

I'd say they just made too many. I'm sure given the hype, plus first new Star Wars in a long time, there must have been quite a few sold. But yes, certainly a learning point there for them. But this is OK. Means they don't spend time and resources (and production capacity) on 4 Praetorian Guard variants for example. They can use those resources now for more classic OT figures :lol

They should have picked weapon colors that looked better with the Guard's armor. This red on red crap is just the troopers white cosplay crap all over again.

Is there some sort of competition to see who can be the most miserable in here? Hardly a surprise they want to show figures related to the current movie. Those secret base shots look good, lets hope the guards get some good scenes in the movie.

I'm with the majority so far who are not feeling the love for these guys, I find them just way to bland, not Hot Toys fault of course they can only make what ever is in the film but I fine the design really lazy just bland featureless red, no details, no character. They are going to have to have some spectacular scenes in a spectacular film to be considered for my shelf space.

Or is one head repeated between the two figures?

Yeah it's easier to reconcile the cost in my head when the sculpt looks lifelike, like a miniature version of a human. But there's no sculpt here. Just red plastic.. Vader is an exception for me because he's the GOAT.

One thing I hate about the new designs in general: how the weapons are color coordinated with the outfits: white in the guns of the stormies; red in the weapons of these guards....makes the weapons look like props and less real

Yeah, I think that is pretty much the sentiment of most here. These figures are expensive, and for Star Wars figures that invariably means most buyer with this sort of disposable income are the kids of the 70's and 80's. By default they will favour the nostalgic OT.

Yes, I'm sure this is the case. Easier to get troopers without head sculpts out the door quickly then those with head sculpts. I'm also annoyed Krennic is not out yet. I guess their thinking was, "well Vader can be the bad guy, we already have most of the stuff available for him, plus everyone knows him".

On top of all this they had no idea how good or bad Rogue One would be. The first Anthology movie and a certain amount of controversy with re-shoots etc. I guess if I were Hot Toys I'd have made a similar business decision to take the low risk direction.

However, that said, I really hope they come back to Krennic, Cassian and Baze in the time after the Solo movie and Ep9. That's the time HT can catch up some on Star Wars. Hopefully there are no Infinity Wars or DC films at that time to distract them from the important Star Wars figures :-)

I actually like both of these figures and would like to get one. I won’t order any until after I’ve seen the movie though to see how I like them on screen. In general I’m pre-ordering much less these days compared to before. I still will but I give them a whole lot more thought first.

Yeah, I'm the same. I think some figures are just no brainers, and can be pre-ordered easily. Ones that are on "The List", with standout sculpts etc. Others like these need the movie to be seen first. However I am hoping, considering their weapons, that they will be used and seen in action. Hopefully a cool scene.

Im commit with my orders and being very selective in my SW collection. Thats why I go for NRD route with SideShow, help me not being distracted and tempted by so many other things like the latest ESB Vader, most important thing is being responsible with my wallet.

Still dont understand the reason why those TLJ characters been revealed before the actual movie. But now I have more evidence to backup my theory that Hot Toys actually was influenced by Disney/Lucasfilm to release certain charaters at certain timing point in order to create hype for their movies.

Howard Chan said in an interview that they are limited by Disney for SW figures. I think Disney keeps a tighter lid on SW characters as opposed to Marvel. If the Knights of Ren are in this movie they are keeping it as a surprise.

Also 2018 is a special year for SW collectors. For figures that comes out after Solo, collectors have a much higher chance on cancelling preorders if they see something else from Solo that they want.

I'd guess the main reason for BBTS doing the NRD thing on the "new" characters has more to do with inventory control than anything. Pretty much everything that has been offered from TFA is still available at some retailer (the single boxed Han Solo being the main exception ).

They know the pre - Disney stuff is going to move....

2 Figures, 3 different helmets, 4 different weapons (6 if you count the different looks of the weapons)

initially pre-orderd 2 of the heavy blade version, not noticing that this helmet was in both versions:

https://www.sideshowtoy.com/assets/products/903182-praetorian-guard-with-heavy-blade/lg/star-wars-praetorian-guard-with-heavy-blade-sixth-scale-hot-toys-903182-13.jpg

So now changed my order to one of each so i have 1 of each. Might pick up a third when i can find one for cheap after the release.
