this I think is one of those licenses that has alot of potential but sadly very little has ever some of it. I would LOVE 1/6 versions of Marty( 1950's, Western, future), Doc, Biff, Lorrain, George, hell even throw me a Strickland and I'd buy him too! C'mon Sideshow!

I would love it if this line came out. Definately worthy of a new credit card! (Can you imagine a 1:6 DeLorean? With the light up flux capacator? Hoverboards would be cool as well.)

Yes, I would be all over this too...unfortunately MJF (like Bill Murray) is not too keen on allowing his likeness to be made in plastic form...so it's rather unlikely we'll ever see these. Although if we did, I'd get 'em... :D

Same here...the only BTTF stuff I own besides the movies are the Marty McFly and Doc Brown Kubricks made by Medicom a few years back along with a die cast DeLorrean...I'd loe to see something from those movies but I doubt it'll ever happen...

SOTA tried, but failed. I think getting a hold of Michael J's agent/lawyer was the problem. I'm sure Medicom just bypassed the likeness thing, since they're just Kubricks.

+100! BTW, do you guys remember a couple of years ago on eBay a customizer put up for bid a Marty Mcfly wich was JAW-DROPPING in detail and accessories? Anybod's got any pictures of that one? Last i checked on that auction the price was $700!!!.

A Marty McFly 1/6 figure is on the top of my list of must have figures right above Indy believe it or not. I have a weird kindred relationship with this license, Its always been one of my favs although lack of merchandise really kills. SSC has done figures that aren't exactly perfect likenesses. Modern Kurgan for one. Maybe we can get a generic Marty?

I hate it when actors have a problem with thier likeness bieng used. Fox should just come to terms with the fact that just as he is and forever will be Alex Keaton to many people, he will always be Marty McFly to a whole generation.

Id probably only get Marty and Doc from the first flick but I think if anyone would do this property it would be Hot Toys. I believe there is a problem with MJF signing off on his likeness and those are the properties HT tends to go for, the ones with finicky actors. :lol

I have three 1:18 scale BTTF DeLorean time machine cars from Sunstar. One from each movie. They're awesome, and still unopened. "Blackhole" what fourth DeLorean are you talking about? I have the original, then the one from BTTF 2 with the "Mr. Fusion" processor on the back, and then finally the BTTF 3 one with the whitewalled tires for riding on the train tracks. "Luchador138" I've got that nice BTTF 2 DeLorean too. It's great!
I've been a HUGE fan of Back To The Future since first seeing it in the summer of 1985. I also have the original movie poster with Marty stepping out of the DeLorean signed by the entire cast, producer Steven Spielberg, director Robert Zemeckis, and even Huey Lewis! I love it, and hope to get it nicely framed someday. :D I've wanted good 12" figures of Marty McFly with his skateboard and the "hoverboard" from BTTF 2, Doc Brown with his dog, "Einstein", and even Biff Tannen. Dan Chung's incredible Marty McFly from the above link is the BEST I've ever seen! He's got every single detail of the outfit down, and it looks great. I'm sorry to hear that Michael J. Fox is hard to get permission for his likeness. We've got lots of great head sculptors out there now, someone can come up with a decent head sculpt. I think I saw one from Ada Chan that was really nice a while back.
I'd love for Hot Toys or Sideshow Toys to make at least a Marty and Doc. But in all reality, it's highly doubtful. But we can alway hope, and pray...and beg them! :D
I may try to make a custom Marty McFly someday soon.

Hi, newbie here. I'm glad I found this thread because I've been watching and loving the BTTF trilogy since childhood. It would be nice to see figures made, but I'm happy with the delorean models that have been released over the years. If they were to make 1:6 figures, the only company I'd want doing it would be Hot Toys because they know what they're doin when it comes to making high end collectibles. They could do with BTTF what they did with TDK which is make a series of figures and a vehicle(s). Based on how awsome their bat pod and tumbler came out, I'd love to see what they could do with the delorean (heck, maybe even the train from part 3). Too bad MJF has issues with his likeness being used.

I'd easily pay big money for a good McFly custom. The ones in the past are close but no cigar even the Dan Chung version left me really wanting better. Not holding my breath on anything official because if MJF were to ease up on his likeness all of a sudden we would have seen other companies pounce on it way before Sideshow even at the announcement phase.
Now if Chris Howes did Marty and Doc I'd buy them in a second but of course his commission list will keep him busy for the next five years. :lol

The 4th one is the one with the train-track wheels. So there's:
BTTF I with Nuclear Reactor
BTTF III with Mr. Fusion and drop down wheels
BTTF III with white wall tires
BTTF III with train-track wheels
As for the announcement, I would FLIP if it were 12" and/or PF BTTF! Now that we have HT having done Robocop, ALIENS and doing A L I E N and (hopefully soon) Predator 1, Plus SS doing Star Wars 12" and PF, LOTR 12" and PF (Dn't make me cry about the 'dead' 12" line :monkey2) and Indy Jones 12" and PF, the only one's I really, really would love from my childhood is Ghostbusters and BTTF in 12" and PF. Would be fine if it was just Doc and Marty in all their various outfits (1985, 2015, 1955, 1885)...
I don't see it happening though. Much like with Bill Murray and the Ghostbusters license, MJF won't authorize his likeness for BTTF. Maybe he'll change his tune now that companies like SS make 'museum' quality replicas and not 3-3/4" 'action-figures'. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

Okay, thanks for clarifying those 4 DeLoreans for me "Indiana Fett". Now I know I'm missing the "train track wheels" one from BTTF 3. I have the other three.
Yeah, I'd love an official line of 12" figures from BTTF from Hot Toys or Sideshow. But I may end up trying to get the Michael J. Fox head from Ada Chan, or seeing if Chris Howes can sculpt a Marty and Doc Brown head for me.
As for Ghostbusters, there is a thread here on this board. It's pretty cool. They've already got a Bill Murray as Peter Venkman head done, and another board member is making custom proton packs too. Awesome! :D

I know Chris may be working on a custom head of Lt. Gorman from ALIENS. We're trying to get a few more names on the list for it over in the commission thread. So, I'm not sure when he'd be able to get to a Marty and Doc Brown head. It may be a while.

DC is finally doing a Christopher Reeve as Superman statue for release next year. But honestly from what I have seen so far, it can't "hold a candle" as far as the likeness goes to Les Walker's awesome 1:6 scale Christopher Reeve as Superman head.
Check it out!

I will be VERY proud to have it in my hands once he's done making the custom Reeve as Superman 1:6 scale figure he's working on for me now. :D Other than the recent Sideshow Indiana Jones, the Reeve Superman is my other most-wanted figure in the 1:6 scale. Marty and Doc are right up there too! I'd love to have them done by a great sculptor like Chris Howes, Les Walker, or Dan Chung.
The Mike
12-11-2008, 12:12 PM
Yeah, I believe his estate finally cleared the likeness but what the stipulations were I'm not sure have been made public. While I'm not too keen on the Statue I'm interested to see if this leads to 13" figures, busts or even the hopeful Christopher Reeve HT Superman.
JediMike71
12-11-2008, 08:24 PM
We'll see. I would buy a 1:6 scale, or 13" figure if the likeness was really great from either Sideshow or Hot Toys. But once my custom Superman is finished by Les Walker I am sure I'll have my personal PERFECT Christopher Reeve as Superman in 1:6 scale! :D
I may go through with the pre-order I did earlier of the DC Reeve as Superman statue. It'd be great to have a good statue of him. But I definitely want to see later pictures of it to see the likeness better.
I'm sorry to sidetrack this thread.
Now....let's go BACK to the Future!

Being a huge BTTF fan.. I still crave for more BTTF collectibles. I have all the minimates, 1:24 Welly DeLoreans and 1:43 Skynet Aoshima DeLoreans. (Even though they are small, 1:43 by Skynet are my favourite DeLoreans, more accurate details than the Sunstar versions). I was little annoyed with Sunstar when for the first three DeLoreans, they didn't even fix the color of the three capacitors to red. Also instead of three capacitors they had only two of them in grey. But they finally corrected them for the Railroad version, which looks great.
The following quote from Michael J. Fox was from the Dec 2007 issue of Esquire magazine.
http://www.esquire.com/features/what-ive-learned/michaeljfox0108
"I was never big on lunch boxes and all that stuff, and I look at it now and think, God, how much money I turned down. Oh, ****, I’d do it in a heartbeat now."
So I guess during the 90s and probably still during the early 2000, Michael didn't want his likeness used for any merchandise. But he has probably changed his mind now.
The 25th anniversary in 2010 will be the ideal time to release BTTF action figures and statues. Even if MJF doesn't approve, any company could move forward by doing other characters from BTTF. Surely Christopher Llyod, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells, Elisabeth Shue and Tom Wilson won't have any objections granting their likeness for their characters. Though not sure about Crispin Glover. Yes Marty is the central character, but I would rather have some BTTF action figures, rather than nothing. Maybe they could make Marty figures without actual MJF likeness, like by having Marty wear sunglasses for the Part I 1985 version and also for the Part II 1955 Marty in disguise figure.
I love the BTTF minimates, they have a great amount of details and DST did a good job with that line. But I am very disappointed with their prop replicas, they are hardly screen accurate replicas, including the recent Outatime plate. Hopefuly they will get the Hoverboard right. DST has the license for minimates and prop replicas, but I am not sure if they have the license for action figures and statues.
1:6 scale BTTF figures and statues by Sideshow would be a dream come true for me and many other BTTF fans :).

By Hot Toys showing their incredible attention to detail and authenticity of the movie lines they've done up to now...I think they're the clear choice to do 1:6 scale figures from BTTF. Even if it ends up only being Marty and Doc from the first movie...at least we'll get those!
I love Sideshow...but Hot Toys is really doing it right lately. I'd love to see them take on BTTF. :D
