Looks good, but still not completely certain about his face.

Oxbeard
07-01-2005, 02:59 PM
I'm definitely looking forward to this one. But I have to admit the face does look a little different than the development photos that were 'leaked' a few months back. Maybe jus the paint aps.

I can't imagine what an exclusive version of this might be since it appears to obviously be like we all expected, a companion to Vader.

dstephan
07-01-2005, 03:01 PM
Maybe there's a clear version as a "Spirit of" variant?

Gruson
07-01-2005, 03:04 PM
His face appears to be a little too wide IMO.

Maybe just a PS affect because it is a promo picture. That would be crazy if it really lit up.

Jesse

dstephan
07-01-2005, 03:40 PM
The glow's a photoshop effect, but I think it bodes well for the actual piece. Can't have Vader's light up and not Ben's.

I would think it would have to light up to accompany Vader. :idea

dstephan
07-01-2005, 04:12 PM
It's difficult to get a sense of the shape of the head since it's obscured in shadow by the hood.

jesseawilson
07-01-2005, 04:24 PM
I agree, I think it is more of an optical illusion we are seeing because the face kind of bleeds into the shadow.

BTW I totally forgot that the DV saber lights up..... wicked.

i agree the face is too wide, and the beard is too full, but since i don't buy this line, big deal.:yay

the exclusive will be the stunt saber with the revolving blade wrapped in foil. i just hope sideshow dosen't forget the electrical cord running up his arm.8o

He lives in a cave, wheres theres no sun light, hes in hiding, remember? He has a slim face from a low fat diet. Not much food where he lives, I thought everyone knew.
His eyes look blue I thought they were Brown, I'll look for some photos.

What's funny about this shot is that a Lightsaber would leave no blood.
It would have fused and cauterized the wound. Oh, well....George was still 'fleshing' it out! :p

I really like the expression, I think it makes for a very visually pleasing display piece. If you took some intensity away from the expression, I think it would look boring.

The expression doesn't really look like anger to me... more like concentration and determination. I think it really brings out the nobility of Obi-Wan/Alec.

Wow Mini Rock, someone can have tons in there collection but its the way they display it that makes it amazing that counts in my book. And you have one amazing arrangement!!!

Mini Rock
07-03-2005, 01:30 AM
Thank you B Electronic. :) Yeah, you bet it saves me a lot of time when dusting. The acylic cases are also great protection from dust (and little hands) and really make the piece display better IMO. I get mine from www.casesforcollectibles.com; (http://www.casesforcollectibles.com;) they are a little pricey but completely worth it. :)

Witchking, I couldn't agree more. Placement is key to a great display. You should check out my links page if you want to see other great displays.

oh my god mini rock those people are raping you with the prices for the cases. i should start my own business for that kind of money. i made this cheap case one day in like 20 minutes at my dad's work. the best part was that it costed me nothing because i used it out of scraps they were gonna trash. i can put the mirror back on it just like that other guy but this was just some cheap thing for my autographed ball. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/hairlesswookiee/PICT0664.jpg

That's nice hairless. Yeah, I agree the prices are a bit high, but considering what I'm putting in them, I think it's worth it. I'm currently looking into acylic cases that offer UV protection too.

Regarding the SS Obi, I was looking through my 2005 Evolutions calendar, and I noticed a pic of Obi Ben in it that looks spot on to the SS figure. As great as it looks now, I imagine the final product will look even better.

I re-checked my references and have too confirm:

-BEARD tooo long! Obi is wearing a very short haired beard in ANH. One thing is right that is the form of the beard, that is angular instead of square (ESB and ROTJ). BUt definitely they have to double check the hair there and remove.

-BROWS. Yes the brows on Alec Guinnes were well defined and he had that "evil look" wrinkle, but never as pronunciated as in the sculpt. In case it is not a effec of the shadows casted in the figure (I'm afraid not), I think it would be the very good if they could soften that, it will improve the likeness a lot --- and the expression!

My two cents!

RichardW

I found an image from his scene with Vader. It looks fairly accurate, it just needs a few tweaks:

I have no doubt that this piece will end up being the finest Obi-Wan ever made. It already looks MUCH better than the Attakus version, which is one of their best human sculpts.

If Obi-Wan loses about 10 pounds, then this piece will be near perfect. Hopefully it is just the lighting and his face isn't actually that wide.

I must say that the Sideshow 1/4 Star Wars line is the absolute best "bang for the buck" out there today for me. Sure the Cinemaquettes look better, but they cost $1000-$1500 each. Sideshow has delivered a Star Wars line that is beautiful and relatively inexpensive for the quality you get. I'm VERY impressed.

What is the edition size for vader? 4K? Do you think they will make the same edition size for this piece?

Isn't vader 2k, 1k for sideshow and 1k for the Starwars shop?

I know we went over the edition size for vader before, but I don't remember if the edition size is 2k or 4k. I know the exclusive ES is 2K, but what about the regular version, if there is one.

I don't know...I think the ES for Kenobi should be 500 for exclusive and 2K for regular.

I don't keep track of these things but I believe vader is 2000/2000 for a total of 4000. I doubt Sir Alec has as many but does it really matter?

SwoopingCloakofSureness

I guess it would only matter if every single person that bought ol' ben wanted to pose him with vader. :dunno

Well after all I've said.... I pre-ordered the damn thing LOL!

Seriously, the face look 10 times better in the pics w/o hood, Congratulations to Matt Falls!!

(What I'm not so convinced now is the Vader... chest box should be bigger!)

The ES for the Vader exclusive is definitely 2K (1K @SWS.com and 1K@SS.com) I believe the regular ES is actually 2500. Regardless of that though, I would expect less total ES (exclusive + Regular) than Vader. Even with the potential to display them as companion pieces, look at ML and Eowyn in the LOTR line. These were designed as companion pieces, but there are fewer Eowyn's.

He did have the pointy hood in the film, but from the pics of the figure it looks like the hood may be too big? A wire in the hood would take care of this I think...

:lol Those film stills make the hood on the Obi-Wan prototype look comical (or should I say conical?). I'm sure this will be corrected in the final version.

Now they just need to bend Vader's arms like Obi-Wan's and he'd be perfect.

Mini Rock

Excellent comparison pics. We can no doubt count on Ben's hood being worked on for the finalized product. Every time I see that photo of the two statue's, I get goosebumps! That's going to make an awesome display. :bow

Also notice Vader's grip in Dave's pics. He's holding his saber left-handed. His left arm looks significantly more bent and more natural, though.

Aside from his hood, Obi-Wan looks literally perfect. The grip, the stance, the face, are all screen accurate. Mat Falls really hit a homerun on this one.

I also noticed that Greg Mowry did not do the Obi-Wan fabrication. I believe that's the first time a SW 1/4 had clothing done by someone other than him. Maybe that's why the cloak looks the worst of all the clothing so far?

Wonderboy43
07-09-2005, 07:45 PM
Does anyone else think the saber blades are a tad short?

dstephan
07-09-2005, 09:54 PM
I'd also say that it's great seeing the scale between Vader and Ben, it looks right on. As for Vader's arms - he didn't really have them bent too much. I watched the fight a few times and he has his arms out in front of him like the figure does.

I think both Vader and Kenobi will end up looking perfect. Vader has improved so much from the old pictures.

Kenobi's head sculpt is great. Superb job.

Now, can you imagine how cool a stormtrooper and Boba Fett are going to be!! :rock

Leia is next, right? Any idea who is after that? C3PO and R2 or another prequel character? Someone must know something!

Awesome job Sideshow. This is THE line for me.

I think I'll display the training remote between Luke and Han, since it has the Falcon base. It was used by Luke, and its base matches Han's.

I'll probably put the Mouse Droid with Vader and Kenobi, since its base matches that scene.

I'll occasionally rotate the display to have the ultimate showdown: Jedi Training Remote vs. Mouse Droid! :rock

It's the only thing that can come close to topping the Vader/Kenobi duel.

TURINS BANE

Yeah, I was thinking of putting it next to Luke. It would be nice if he had the lighr-saber, that would make the perfect scene. But it won't happen... with Jedi Luke, deferent clothes.

I meant to say something about the Jedi Training Remote I hope SS does the pole that holds it up transparent. That would look so cool and have the pole longer so it will be more up in the air.

That's an absolutely fantastic idea, and I can't believe I never thought of that:bonk I was thinking about how they could make the remote appear to be hovering, similar to the GG Speederbike statue, and that's the perfect way to do it.

PLEASE consider a transparent pole Sideshow!

The SS Obi-wan, is ten times better then the attakus one, OMG.

The Vader probably the best one yet. And Luke, that's just a must, even just for the scene. And Grievous, awesome statue. A must for the prequel collection. :rock

One Sideshow person said the pole will be transparent, but someone else said that it was black to represent space as per Lucasfilm. So I'll try and get some clarification.

I noticed today that Obi's hood was tacked down so he doesn't have that Jawa look anymore. And seeing the two of them in person is just amazing. They've even addressed Darth's arm position that was giving so many people problems.

That would be awesome if it was transparent! Please try and dig us up some details Dave.

I should have asked Mat Falls that question in the chat yesterday. :bang I was too focused on how the lightsaber effects would work.
