I saw the price too.:google Maybe it's just me, but it seems that sideshow has increased its prices on almost every collectible.

The price point's been known since Sunday.

Are there any comparison pictures of Sauron bust with the other two Sideshow busts?

Too much, great bust, but it is a bust and thats too much money! IMHO!!!:D

I have given in though and ordered Legend Lord of Darkness as I think this PF could rival Lurtz for detail and awe factor! Sorry thats off topic I know:rolleyes:

Yeah, for the price, it would want to be one awesome bust..It looks great in the pictures...but not $380 great.

I just don't like it period. I wouldn't get this if it were $100. Something about it bugs me.

Anyone happen to notice the height?

24 inches tall

That's as big as the statue. Also it's not just a helm, but includes the shoulders as well. Not my cup o'tea, but I can see how they arrived at that price.

If that's a relative size comparison between the two, then I really can't see the high price. Surely the spikes on Sauron's head aren't worth that much.

His neck area is way to wimpy when you compare it tio the statue. Sauron has a thick neck not a giraffed pencil neck. I prefer my 36 inch UC helm to this one.

occulum
02-14-2007, 03:34 PM
my guess is the detail in the sculpt and it looks like its probably 3-4+ times the number of pieces to mold, cast & assemble as compared to the Cave Troll.

its 150% the height of the Cave Troll, yet about 125% the price. BUT it weighs less than CT.
So who knows.

Glad I dont collect LOTR, so it doesnt matter to me.
But I do think it looks pretty sweet

I agree the neck does look thin

Yes! That's what has bugged me about it since I first saw it. The neck just looks wrong. Of course, I'm not taken with it at all, but that's me. Others will think it's the greatest thing SS has done. Each to his own, but I'm not going there with this. I plain don't like it. And, the price is a lot too much for me to swallow.

Yes, good for the US collectors. The EU collectors are not likely to find it at a lower price than SSC offers it. This bust and pretty much everything SSC sales.

Didn't think much of the ML bust initially...then I saw it in person [WOW!]. I do like this bust, though the pose and neck do seem a bit off to me. I will be adding it to my collection, but only if I can get it for significantly less than the $380 list price.

I would of like to seen the "chest" in there, the "sholders only" makes it look wierd. It does look good but I rather go with the weta statue, nice companion to PF lurtz or the UC helm.

For myself - about $225.00.

It looks awesome and from the pics of the costume accurate but with everything coming this summer C4 (2 exclusives from SS alone), SDCC, etc. I will have to pass for now.

woodsy
02-15-2007, 07:20 AM
Yeah...like 100.

That estimate may be a tad generous! At $380 this piece just might end up with the lowest ES in LOTR history.
Hopefully, when this thing bombs SS will realize it's not the bust itself, or the legendary scale line that people are unhappy with....I for one don't want to see SS scrap this line.

The Josh
02-15-2007, 07:57 AM
Me either. I like this line. I want to go back and get the ML and get Sauron but right now just isn't a good time especially when Sauron hits at $380.

woodsy
02-15-2007, 08:07 AM
but right now just isn't a good time especially when Sauron hits at $380.

Will there ever be a good time to pay $380 for a bust? This is more money than SS has ever charged for a statue or bust. Not quite sure what they were thinking on this one. Might be a pretty good deal if they set the ES at 15.

Sure there are times when $380 isn't that bad but there is still a lot to come over the next few months so the price isn't a good one for me right now. That's not to stay I won't try and get one later on.

JSA
02-15-2007, 08:33 AM
I too think the neck looks thin. Is it possibly because of the lack of a cape
draped around the shoulders? If the cape were added it seems like that would
fill in the empty space and make it look thicker in the neck area.

Dunno about this, but I'd kill for a great looking Legendary Scale Balrog Bust.

This pic isn't enough for me to really tell if the neck is too skinny. It might appear skinny to me due to the way the pic was taken.

I also feel that he will look better with a chest area like most busts. The way they made this piece, it looks to me like it is just a head/helmet with the shoulder plate/armour. It's not even a shoulder as there is a space under the armour. More like Sauron Armour bust.

I'd hate to see them scrap the line. I love it, but this pencil neck is waaaaaay overpriced. It isn't worth 380.00 no matter how low the edition size is.

Yep, I'd rather have United Cutlery's Sauron Helm that can be had for about $250.

The more I look at Sauron, the more I dislike it. It's not just his neck that seems small, but his body/chest plate as well. I am trying to imagine what he would look like with a full body of armor. He must be on the Nicole Richie diet or something.

I have to believe it will look much better in person, just like the ML. If it does end up being a "turkey" then what does that say about our SS ToyFair offerings....a turkey-necked sauron and a diorama more suitable in the next boxed edition DVD:eek:
