View Full Version : The INDIANA JONES Thread
Hey WG, what you been keeping from us all this time bro? :lol No better time to show it off! Love it! Great Custom there. Love the outfit and especially the HS expression, I like the weathered band on the hat too!
OK, since everyone is showing off their INDY, I thought I'd finally show off mine:
This figure has an interesting history: It originally belonged to Chris King (cking) and I acquired it from him in 2002. Apparently, this was one of Sovereign Studios prototype Indiana Jones figures from which he created the clothing patterns for the ones we've all seen so many times since then. Chris worked very closely with Shawn at Sovereign on this one to get all the scale and details correct for its time. When I saw, back in 2002, I just had to have it. It has a unique head sculpt I've never seen before or since. Let me know what you guys think?
My shots from 2002 -- before my kitchen became the focal point:

Thanks guys! Means a lot, seriously. Particularly with Indy... and since there's been so many awesome ones shown already.
And yes Jungle Jom, the hat IS big, I agree. But the flash really catches the "dirt" on it, lights it up in a bad way. In hand, the hat looks great. Oversized for the head, but great. Like I said, maybe I'll use it for SS Indy one day... but I hate to disrupt the history of this figure. It's been in some talented hands.
http://www.irishjedi.com/pics/indy4_bts.jpg
It's the same black jacket he wears in most of the film.
And I think Ford looks especially bad ass in that pic. :rock
I agree. Of course the whole endeavor could just end up to be one laughingstock of a film or...Ford just might be a badass old guy like Eastwood in Unforgiven. And that would rock.
EVILFACE
08-10-2007, 06:28 PM
The difference though is Eastwood was a badass before Unforgiven. Ford's characters are good, but they are no Man with No Name, Josey Wales, Gunny Highway, William Munny and blow your head clean off Dirty Harry!
If Eastwood was pres in Airforce One, the movie would be over in 10 min.

I got one of Peter Botwrites (sp?) Indy jackets about 4 years ago.... Best money I ever spent. 100% Guarentee you will love it forever. It looks great, the leather (the dark, authentic soft lamb) feels amazing but it comes out of the box a little shiney and needs to be distressed a little to look the part. You won't regret it! (His shirts are great too!)
The best part is that it is totally screen accurate, made by hand by the actual guy who did the movie jackets!
Here's me Halloween costume last year:

Awesome jacket! :monkey5 I want to get one too! I wore my old leather jacket one Halloween and had the felt fedora I got from the Star Wars Fan Club. I even had a bullwhip too. But my jacket didn't look anything like this totally "screen accurate" one! The fact that it was made by the guy that made the ones for the movies is incredible too. :D

I too am trying to round up an Indy outfit. I already have the hat, gun belt, holster and whip holder on the way, but I just can't find the Alden boots at a decent price. I'm sort of on a budget. Here are some at the Magnoli Clothiers: https://host385.ipowerweb.com/~indyprop/osCommerce/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=28_32&products_id=54&osCsid=3df347704d963b34cec2417df1b30045
I even have the perfect Last Crusade Webely Mark VI in mind: http://www.westernstageprops.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WSP&Product_Code=IJG1
I'm going to get the bag from Magnoli. The jacket there is too much, so are the shirt and pants. I need to look into this Indyjacket site some more.
If you guys know of anyplace I can get some imitation boots or something, please let me know.

I'll let you know if I find anything.... I'm currently on a search for a cheaper alternative as well for the Alden's. Those boots are pretty particular, hard to find any that have that similiar a style. But I am looking.
Nice find on that pistol as well, I have a guy that I am talking to about a resin replica of the Hand Ejector pistol from Raiders. Going with that one for my costume.

Yeah me too, Got a lamb and a goat skin Wested, a Keppler and a reblocked Akubra fedora, Mark VII bag with leather strap, holster, 12 plait 10 ft bullwhip and a pair of the pants and trousers from Wested as well as some actual WWII era officer pinks. I have a pair of aldens but I also found some cheapies that look identicle, I'll try and remember what store I ordered them from and get back with the info.

Everything, and I do mean everything that anybody could ever want/need to know about Indy and his gear...... Including distressing (massive debates about the moral implications of doing it to expensive gear), where to find your Aldens or the closest cheap alternatives, the who/what/when/where/why of the Fedora.... it's a really neat community there.
http://www.indygear.com/cow/index.php?sid=0ca4987deaf715d690f33f878bac554f
And, Trevolver, the distressing can be very easily overdone, but basically I used acetone (paint remover) and soaked some sturdy shop paper-towel to to rub the "shine" off the leather, especially in the higher-wear areas. Then I took some very fine grit sandpaper (200-400) to chafe up the seams and high-light the high-wear areas at the very edges of the sleeves, the elbows, collar, etc. (doesn't show up well in the photos but looks great in person) being very carefull not to damage any of the stitching.... Then some general scrapes and dings by rubbing it lightly on the gravel on my garage floor.... The whole distressing thing has to be done artistically, carefully, and above all slowly because if it's overdone it can look terrible. There's lots of examples of destroyed Westeds on the Indy forum where guys rushed it, or just scraped it up with a knife or something.... You're going to want to wear it in public, so it's gotta look good!

Slashfilm reports that Lucasfilm has filed for six different titles for the fourth "Indiana Jones" feature with the Motion Pictures Association of America. The six that are apparently being officially considered as titles for the fourth film are:
"Indiana Jones and the City of Gods"
"Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds"
"Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth"
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"
"Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold"
"Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant"
The first, "Indiana Jones and the City of Gods," has long been the rumoured working title for the production (and arguably the best of the batch, though like 'Destroyer' and 'Quest' as well myself). Should no other objections be raised, the studio will be clear to use any of these titles in two weeks.
galactiboy
08-13-2007, 12:19 PM
So are all these titles filed to throw people off, or are these all components of the story?
One thing thats funny about Lucas sequel titles is they always seem really cheesey and terrible when you first hear them, but they really grow on you and become great after awhile. I remember groaning when I first heard "The Phantom Menace" but damned if it didn't turn out to be a great title :lol
IrishJedi
08-13-2007, 12:41 PM

I think that if they announced "Temple of Doom" as the title today, then we would all be moaning and groaning about it.
Even if I don't initially like some of those proposed titles, they do have the feel of old serial adventures and they all seem like something that Lucas would choose for the series.

"Destroyer of Worlds" addresses the A-bomb story line.
Strange that the "covenant" is back in title...
Does anyone think that, in the movie, the government secretly studied the ark that they hid in 1936 and as a result we have the A-bomb? Is that a possible story line here?

Not really. The MacGuffin has more to do with the "City of Gods" and "Cyrstal Skull" mentions than the A-Bomb itself.
Ever read "Chariots of The Gods"? Well, if so then you can pretty much piece it together. ;)

You know, Central American pyramids and artifacts that deal with ancient astronauts that may or may not be "gods" and responsible for technology and events throughout human history.
Let's put it this way... it's not exactly "The Saucermen From Mars" but Harrison Ford's age and the Cold War element aren't the only reasons why Lucas set this film in the late '50s.
I can't say anymore than that without giving away THE MacGuffin and huge parts of the plot, but you should get the idea now.

Hey! I didn't see your other post about it (sorry, must have missed it) but I'll answer here...
The answer is that it's not a real JOHN RAMBO poster and it doesn't exist. I needed something to represent the flick in my signature so I just did up a teaser "poster" myself in Photoshop. I had no idea it worked that well. :p Sorry for the confusion, though!

Yeah, and Sabastian Shaw was removed from Return of the Jedi. This IS Lucas so what's your point?
IrishJedi
08-14-2007, 10:51 AM
Actually, George Hall was removed from YOUNG INDY at Spielberg's request.
Spielberg was too busy making JURASSIC PARK, SCHINDLER'S LIST and AMISTAD back-to-back-to-back when most of the YOUNG INDY stuff was going on, so he wasn't much involved at all though Lucas is now letting him make some creative decisions in retro.
Interesting side note of trivia: Spielberg was originally supposed to direct the episode in which Harrison Ford cameos, but could not due to schedule conflicts. So Lucas actually directed the Harrison Ford scenes near Ford's home in Jackson, Wyoming. Spielberg then let Lucas edit the FX sequences of JURASSIC PARK while Spielberg was in Europe filming SCHINDLER'S. All of this is what ultimately led Lucas to decide to direct again.

I know its an old argument... but for me I have no issue with directors updating their work and making changes as long as I still have the option to buy the original. When they change things (usually for the worse IMO) and do not offer the fans the choice in what the watch it seems very inconsiderate.

An awful decision to cut him out, and I'm glad Mr. Hall will not know of it. He died several years ago, after his series "Remember WENN" concluded. He was the reason I would have bought these. Thanks for the heads-up.

Yeah. They said at SDCC that the first Indy 12" and PF would be from RAIDERS.
Now thats the kind of news I needed to hear! That makes me very happy as if an Indy was released from Temple or Crusade I'd be torn wondering if I should buy now in case they don't make it to Raiders, or wait.
This takes out all the guess work :lol

I cannot wait for a Raiders Indy. Well, actually, I probably won't get it. My brother would in a heartbeat... less than a heartbeat! I myself like Last Crusade the best. But that's only due to the fact that it was the first Indy I ever saw, when I was 2, and the only Indy video we had until I was... 14? I know that's sad, but I cried at the end of LC when they ride off into the sunset. Ah, memories. But, enough reminiscing.
I can only hope that Sideshow will top the Toys McCoy Indiana from Raiders, they have to, they're Sideshow, for Pete's shake! What do you think, can Sideshow beat the accessories of the TC?

I have a feeling that Sideshow will be pulling out all the stops on this first release. This is a pretty major figure that fans have wanted for years and years so there is a lot to live up to. So I imagine he'll be loaded with as many accessories as possible and an extra goodie for the exclusive.

For all the small details and such check out Indygear.com
Mostly the fedora's were different bashes (shapes) in all the movies with the Raiders being the tallest crown and widest brim with little to no taper on the front of the crown.
The Wested jackets were slightly different in each movie, Raiders had a shorter jacket just below the waist. Temple had a longer jacket with a wider collar. Crusade had a mix of both, shorter but still cut below the waist, but with a smaller collar than Temple but wider than Raiders.
The web belts changed colors from film to film as did the shirt and pants slightly. You'll notice going back the pants were a much looser fit in Raiders than the other films.
The handgun changes, gloved hands in most of Raiders.
That's just a couple off the top of my head

From a Hasbro Star Wars Q&A-- Is this common knowledge?
http://www.bobasbounty.net/
Q. I believe you previewed a 12" Indiana Jones figure at SDCC. Are both Hasbro and Sideshow Collectibles going to make 12" Indy figures or will there be an arrangement similar to the 12" Star Wars figures which Sideshow produces?
A. While Sideshow produces 12" figures under sublicense from us, they have a separate arrangement with Lucasfilm on Indy
Darklord Dave
08-21-2007, 01:19 AM
I believe that is news. We knew that both companies were doing 1/6 Indys but apparently it's a seperate license. Not unprecedented, as SSC did 1/6 Van Helsing while Mattel did more toy like versions.

Yes. Hasbro's license covers mass-market 12" INDY figures under $25 MSRP. Sideshow's license covers direct-market, limited edition 12" INDY figures for $59 and up. I got this directly from both Hasbro and LFL when I was in San Diego (because I just HAD to ask when I saw that Hasbro unveiled an Indy 12" of their own).
Actually, this is not so much different than the SW license really. It's just that Hasbro chose to discontinue the mass-market 12" SW figures so the explicit criteria destinguising the separate licenses were not necessary.

He mostly talks to TV Guide about being a "maverick" filmmaker like his close friend director Francis Ford Coppola, and Pixar's John Lassiter filming from locations outside of Hollywood like San Francisco, and other areas like that. He does give a little insider info on Indy 4 towards the end of the small interview. Enjoy! :D

There was some Major spoilers posted on AICN the other day that were taken down. If anyone is interested, I saved what was said.
Basically, they explained some of the plot.
I was indifferent to what was said of the plot, it seemed to fit in a Indy movie, but I really didn't like the confirmation of a certain character rumor. Though, you'd have to be blind not to see that it was going to be true.

It literally has every thing I want in a film: nonstop action, great pacing, romance, a genuinely horrific climax and a 1930's period setting (I love the styles of the thirties.) Honestly, it is far better than all of the STAR WARS episodes combined, and is better than most of the Bond films.
Anyway, after re-falling in love with RAIDERS, I went to work one what I consider my artistic masterpiece. Here is my dedication to my favorite film, done in watercolors with some ink. It was heavily influenced by the work of Drew Struzan, Richard Amsel and the movie posters of the 1930's and 40's.
I hope you guys like it. It's not much, but I put alot of work into it:

Please let me know what you think! If it's popular, I might do some based on the other films.

Glad you now see the light Dr.! Hehe. For me, I've realized for AGES that Raiders has got to be my fave film of all time...for all the points you mentioned, and more. I mean I love SW and LOTR and all that, but who wouldn't want to be Indiana Jones?! It's just classic in every sense of the word.

yea, that kid's a complete and utter idiot. apparently, he doesn't understand what a non-discloure agreement is. he can and should be sued for breach of contract, but I doubt spielberg would do that. probably just cut him from the movie and blackball him forever. kinda wish i didn't already know about the spoilers, but oh well, still can't wait to see the movie.

The spoilers he revealed were hardly huge revelations, they were already known or guessed at by most Indy fans for a long time now. Still, I can understand Spielberg being pissed. I've whited them out but they are minor plot spoilers IMO.
it's in the 1950's vs commie Cate Blanchett, they are after a crystal skull in South America, *shocker* Indy gets captured in this film like he has been in the first 3, and the big "secret" that Spielberg thinks was still a secret: Shai plays Indy & Marion's son whom Indy passes the hat to - people have been guessing about this since it was believed that Natalie Portman was going to play Indy's daughter. The one the extra didn't mention which I think is cool is that John Hurt will play the long thought dead Abner Ravenwood

I certainly haven't read anything else about the spoilers that this kid spilled, but if what I just read in the link above is all there is, I'm not sure that there's much there that couldn't have been released in any somewhat generic synopsis of what the movie is going to be about. I agree the kid was stupid for saying anything at all, and hopefully he's got a day job that he can stick with, but honestly I hardly think those minor tidbits are worth getting worked up over for more than the blink of an eye. So somebody should have smacked the kid on the forehead and said "Ya ain't supposed ta say nuthin'!" (since he DID sign the nondisclosure agreement!) and that would have been enough.
Was there more to the plot leakage than what's noted in this short article?
Besides, any publicity is good publicity, and who's it really going to spoil it for? I mean, I'm still going to see the movie, and I'd bet a week's pay that anyone else who planned on going will still go... I guess I just don't see why there's all the drama. :monkey1

That sucks. Do you have a more accurate one, yet? If you don't and are still looking for one, I suggest Winrich's "Indy-on-a-budget" whip. It isn't kangaroo hide, and it isn't as tightly woven (plaits, or whatever), but it looks really accurate. I'm really happy with mine.

I totally agree. The Toys McCoy version was the first serious attempt by a major toy company to do Indy properly. It really only suffered from the old style body design they had to use back then. The (Billiken) Hayao Hama head sculpt was pretty much state-of-the-art at the time, and they went all out on the accessories, too.
Being such a huge Indy fan, (still the best thing Lucas has ever done, imo) I went a little nuts and picked up two of them, along with an Arabian horse for each, when they were first released in Japan many years ago. No big surprise, they sold out fast, even back then. I had no idea they'd appreciate so much over time, but that hardly matters. Neither one of mine will ever go up for sale... not while I still draw breath, anyways.
I'm really looking forward to owning SSC's version of Indy, and I'm sure they'll do a kickass job on him, but I'll always count the Toys McCoys Indys among my most favorite possessions, funky Hasbro bodies an' all.:D

For a McFarlane/NECA collector like me, this is almost a dream come true. Sure it's not gonna be as sweet as SSC's stuff, but it has me alot more excited than Hasbro's toys, and will hold me over as the definitive Indy figure, until SSC's 12" Indy from ROTLA comes out.
Judging from the pic, the likeness isn't perfect; but it looks better than the Hasbro figs, or Disney's previous offerings, and it looks like it will fit in with my Cult Classics stuff just fine.

Yeah, and Indy really does look good in the new shots... I still don't care for Shia LeDouche, but if the rest of the movie is good maybe he'll be stomachable as well :lol

Cereal toys did rock! Back in the day when sugar was king and fiber was only in wicker chairs!!!:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl
Don't worry about Le Douche, maybe his character will be killed off in the first 10 minutes of the film:monkey3

Notice how they're using young Harrison on products. People don't want to see Grampa Jones.
