Even if they don't show any Indy stuff at SDCC just knowing they are working on it is enough for me. My mind is racing with what ifs...

Thought Chris said that there was a error in the online boothmap.

I didn't hear about that. Maybe there won't be any Indy stuff to see this weekend.

I'm fairly sure two heads won't happen. Not only would it increase the costs to sculpt, tool, and paint a second head for an already costly, accessory heavy figure, I think most would prefer the posing options and realism a removable hat offers.

I'm not sure if there are better cost effective alternatives to a plastic hat. The cloth and fuzzy flocked 1:6 hats I've seen look far more doll-ish than a plastic one. As mentioned, The Van Helsing and Freddy hats are ok. The Toys McCoy hat looks pretty good to me. I'm sure Sideshow will sculpt one as good if not better. I just hope they make both the Raiders version and the Temple/Last Crusade style fedoras.
They did it on Leia Boushh, and I'm sure they can reuse some head sculpts for other variations. But I'd really hate to display an Indy without his Fedora and see hat hair. If it will be removable, it will probably be plastic.

I had to post this here -- Dave says GG has Indy stuff...

They had a bronze bust of Indy, Indy on horse from Raiders and a missing statue - Indy on Motorcycle. Doesn't look like any other characters.

Indy on Horse could ROCK!

Thanks for the picture of Karen with Spielberg! I appreciate it. Do you have any more from the set? A URL link possibly? Let me know. Thanks! :D

I'm so happy that Marion is coming back! They said at SDCC that she said "we are a family". That's so great to hear! Yeah, I agree that Karen still looks great. I always thought she had that kind of "spunky" attitude and natural beauty.

Here's a direct quote from G4's website today:

"At the just-completed press conference for Indiana Jones IV at this year's Comic-Con, there were a few surprises. Beamed "from the set" were Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford (in the Indiana Jones costume), Shia LaBoeuf (in a beard), and, for the first time, Ms. Marion Ravenwood herself, Karen Allen. From all accounts, Karen looked surprisingly young and vivacious.

Spielberg promised that the film, which will be released in May, 2008, will be "just for the fans." For his part, Dr. Jones himself said that it was great to be back in the "dirty, sweaty clothes" of his most popular character.

More news as it comes."

It sounds GREAT to me! Now, if only Sean Connery would come back as Indy's Dad in a "tiny" cameo....that would be the icing on the cake for me. Yeah, I know he's not since he's already said "I'm having too much fun" in retirement. But to have Karen Allen back as Marion Ravenwood is HUGE good news for me!
:D

Sideshow panel rocks the Con!
Posted on Thursday, July 26th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

The first official Sideshow Collectibles panel was a complete success, featuring Brant Bridges (Operations Manager), Quoc Ha (Graphic Arts Manager), Jared Chapman (3-D Creative Coordinator), Scott Klauder (Production Manager), Heath Hammond (3-D Creative Manager), Mat Falls (VP of 3-D Design), and Tom Gilliland (Creative Director) talking a little bit about the creative process of bringing Sideshow’s collectibles to life, and ending with some excellent answers to some equally as excellent questions.

In the course of the talk, the guys managed to sneak in a few peeks at upcoming products, including a very cool tease for our upcoming Star Wars 12-inch 2 pack. Could it be Palpatine and Sidious, as some have reported? Who knows! All we can officially confirm is that you will find out very soon! (yeah, yeah, we do like to tease) Con attendees also got a peek at the rough head sculpt for our very first Indiana Jones 12-inch figure! We promise to show it to our web audience in the Production Blog soon, along with unpainted pics of our next LOTR and Star Wars dioramas (Eagles VS Fell Beast and Dooku VS Yoda)! Stay tuned for Larry Curtis’ panel wrap up article, to be posted soon. [Comic-Con Articles]

If you have any questions for our Production and Creative Teams, feel free to submit them to our Ask Sideshow Form, and we will try to pin them down after the show is over to get the answers! [Fill Out the Form]

Harrison is EVERY bit as hard to sculpt as has been said and shown. the man is honestly near impossible to capture...in ANY way. it's something that a lot of sculptors seem to be agreeing on. :D but we don't know why....

we'll be doing a sculpted hat, but probably not how you imagine. I'm honestly shocked you guys got a peek at this so early on in the process of its development. LUCKY! :D

it's been the greatest honor to sculpt this, next to Alec Guinness, for me. Indy is my favorite, so I geeked out a bit when the guys asked me about this project. I just hope I get a chance to do a better one....I'm almost positive I can get him way closer.....

Each project is different, to be sure, but a portrait should normally be knocked out in a week. (some guys are MUCH faster) Someone like Harrison Ford takes a few extra days, though. (I actually had to redo this one because my initial attempt was just slightly too small....luckily I caught it before it left my studio) it's true that with personal projects, one can study and continue work for an indefinite period of time until it 'feels' completely right. with this work...you do have to settle at some point, and just take it in stride and accept it.

I'm ready to get going on revisions! :D:D Jones deserves it!!!

Greg-great figures!!!

Batty-yea! Sideshow opened up a whole can of worms by showing this one early! :D you guys'll get a REAL sense of how long it takes for a product to become reality. it's amazing to see how much hard work goes into this stuff

Trev that sculpt looks GREAT! I think that we will finally have a definitive Indiana Jones figure come our way. I know that there have been alot of amazing customs out there but this one should be great. This is the one I've been waiting for for a long time! I could never afford the Toys McCoy , but I think this one could top it. I hope that we can somehow get a real leather jacket without breaking the bank.

I think it's so cool that you post here and give us little tidbits about your sculpts. Thank you so much for doing that , it just adds a little extra to the figure when we finally receive it. Trev, I think it turned out exceptionally well and wouldn't mind having that visage on my Indy figures. Your desire to achieve as close to perfection as you possibly could gives me hope that this could turn out to be the greatest Indy likeness ever. I really can't wait to see what the finished product will look like. Hopefully SSC will have you do some more expressive depictions of the sculpt for different versions of Indy in the future. Here's a figure that Ben (half of Mr. Fusion. lol) made. It's been a work in progress for a few years. If you're real hardcore, you will notice that this is Indy is from "Raiders." It's Ben's fav Indy movie.

Now, I, Josh have one as well. But mine is from "Last Crusade." I'll post pictures of it later, as I've recently repainted it and have yet to take pictures.

Oh, yeah, and neither of us can wait until Sideshow makes Indiana from "Raiders," "Temple," or "Last Crusade." KICK ASS!

Cool custom Indy, Mr. Fusion! I like it. I'll have to post some pictures here of my custom Indy I made with some help from a customizer who made most of his gear. It turned out great! I love my custom...but I know I'll buy Indy from all of the Indy movies if Sideshow does them right!

i love the indy movies, but i'm going to display my indy ignorance and ask: were the differences in his outfit in the movies significant enough to warrant different figures from each movie? like i said, i love indy, but even so, i'd be quite content with one figure of him. out of curiosity, what exactly were the differences in his outfit in the movies?

Entropy Chicken

Minor changes. The crown of the fedora is higher and blocked differently in Raiders than Temple and Crusade. The belt is brown in Raiders and khaki in Temple/Crusade. Not sure but the strap for his bag may change color as well. One sleeve gets ripped off and his hand is bandaged in Temple. He wears a tie with the shirt in Crusade. And of course he wears the white tux and 3 piece professor suits in addition to the adventuring duds. They certainly could get by with only 1 version as long as they included all the artifact accessories: fertility idol, headpiece of staff of ra, sankara stones, cross of coranado, and the holy grail.

wyrmn3500

thanks for the answer! yeah, i have to say i don't think they would need to do more than one indy in his adventuring gear -- the tux or the professor outfits would be neat, and could conceivably prompt me to purchase multiple indys though! the head sculpt looks fantastic -- can't wait to see the rest of indy!

The hat is different in crown and brim size plus the bash is different in each film.

The jacket is shorter in Raiders, longer in Temple with a larger collar, and midway between both in Last Crusade.

Shirt color is different in Raiders

pant color is different

different web belt

differerent handguns

the markVii bag is the samethough

I completely agree. Give me the classic outfit from the first film and I'm set.

Rather than a bunch of Indy versions, I'd rather they spent their time on other characters. Not sure how Belloq or 'Monkey Man' or others would sell really, but I'D BUY 'EM ALL.

Don't think this has been posted yet. The official SW (http://starwarsblog.wordpress.com/2007/07/28/a-kadams-worth-of-indy/) blog has a pic of Hasbro's 12" Indy. I figured since they dropped the SW line, they would leave the Indy 12" figures to SS as well. Would this delay SS releasing their 12" figs? I guess the Hasbro one looks ok... for a Habro 12", but it can't in any way meet SS standards.

Surprisingly, that doesn't look bad at all for a Hasbro doll! I wonder if they will package it in a vintage-styled Kenner box:

As I am so pumped for all of this Indy merchandise, I will probably get the Hasbro fig to keep in the box (if the packaging looks nice,) and of course, I will get most of the Sideshow figs to open and display.

From the neck up, it looks fantastic!!!! From that picture, it looks like they nailed the head and the hat. However, the rest of the figure leaves much to be desired from the crummy body, the cheap shirt and the accessories. However, at a 20 to 25 dollar price point, I think it will be a must have for an Indy collector.

The Hasbro head sculpt looks surprisingly good, but I know Sideshow will outshine Hasbro with their rendition.

Other then the adventure outfits:
-There's the Dig disguise Indy wears when using the staff of Ra to find the location of the Ark.
-There's the Nazi Uniform at the end of Raiders.
-There's two suits he wears in Raiders, one at the beginning and another just at the end in Washington.
-There's the tuxedo he wears at the beginning of Temple of Doom and I think another suit he wore during dinner.
-Theres a ceremony costume he wears when he is possessed in Temple of Doom.
-For Last Crusade, Two suits he wears at the beginning, one when he meets with Walter Donovan and one he wears in Venice during the boat chase.
-And lastly, a Boy Scout Indiana Jones portrayed by River Phoenix in the beginning of Crusade (The new child body would work perfectly for this version).

That's all I could think of off the top of my head, I might have missed a few.

I personally think the Sideshow sculpt is better, especially for a Raiders Indy. He was more driven and pissed off in that movie than smiling. The smiling sculpt is a great sculpt, but the first Indy figure in the Sideshow series should be a Raiders Indy, first film and all, and so far all the other Indy sculpts made have either had a weird "who farted"? look (toys Mccoy) or just not gotten the likeness right. That sideshow sculpt knocks them out of the park.

I hope since the Indy 12'' figures are retailing around $70 that they will give justice enough to give these head sculpts a better paint job. A lot of Sideshow proto sculpts look fantastic but when it comes down to the production run they just end up being disappointing.

Personally, I think its day is done. As a sort of Raiders "standard," Trev's sculpt has it beat six ways to Sunday. Take a close look at the mouth -- Trev captured that slight twist Ford always has. Can't wait for better shots to appear in the Production Blog.

http://www.cooltoyreview.com/story/front/SDCC07_Hasbro_Indiana_Jones_Part_3_107865.asp

And another surprise is that it's not a bad sculpt. I like the fedora too. Costume ain't great, but I've already got that here on a custom Indy who really only just needs a head & hat...

Cheap stop-gap until the SSC comes along.

I agree and think that the sculpt looks great....But, it's the PAINT JOB that I am worried about!

And, for the record...Karen Allen is not only still good looking, she is an absolutely sweetheart! I met her at Chiller Theatre last year and she was just darling! What a nice person! I am absolutely thrilled that she is returnjing. Marion really is the only woman for Indy! :monkey5

Thanks WG! I still have a lot of work to do, but today I was so happy to have that one finally coming together so I HAD to share. :lol

Still need to update the shoes with the Newline Indy boots, but will do that later. I also have a lot of work to do on the hat and coat... but it's nearly there. Now he just needs some company!

Well, parts wise...Dragon body... Most of the gear... shirt, belts, gun, bag and jacket came from the Relic Hunter figure. The head and hat came from Lonnie over at H2 creative, boots and pants are DID WWII. The pants were dirtied with grey weathering solution to get them more screen accurate as Indy's pants were not solid brown or tan. Whip was a custom job from Ebay, very cool seller and nice work too!

I sanded the jacket to get the sheen off and soften the leather a bit... It worked pretty well, but I still need to add some dirt to it....

You could probably just cut the zipper right off and use a silver pen on the little material left over to create the illusion of a zipper... like Pjam and others did on the T-800 jacket.

Great work DarkArtist! I really like your Indy! I have the wrong type of leather jacket on mine. It has the elastic waistand and elastic cuffs. Here's a picture of mine. I got a Frontline head from Lonnie Hale, and got a nice custom hard resin fedora from Mary Lacour (mpl59 on eBay). She also hand-made my Indy's real leather whip, belts, holster, pistol, gas mask shoulder bag, and white shirt. I got the jacket and the pants and boots from a G.I. Joe 12" Tuskeegee Airman figure a few years ago. I'm very proud of it. Yeah, I'd like a better head for him, but this one does just fine for me. But, I will still buy all of Sideshow's 1/6 scale Indys when they come out! :D

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z104/JediMike71/IndianaJonesJune2007013.jpg

I have removed the snaps on the jacket since this picture was taken...

Oh yeah, Mary also made all of Indy's artifacts for me too! The golden idol and sandbag from Raiders, the three Sankara stones from Temple Of Doom, and the Holy Grail cup of Christ from The Last Crusade. I have painted over the dreaded "white dots" in his eyes now per suggestions from other board members here. I'll take some new pictures soon.

Hey man, awesome Indy.:google This is by way one of the most professional custom Indiana Jones figures using the Relic Hunter and Lonnie Hale head I've ever seen. Top notch.

If you don't mind I have a couple of suggestions: you definitely need the Newline boots; there's a better top/pants belt out there, if you can find it. It's called a Winstone web belt (maybe DID?). Ben and I got ours from Toy Soldier Brigade. I've attached some pictures. It's a little out of scale, but it really beats the Relic Hunter belt, imo. I would recommend painting the buckle on the gas bag strap silver. Also, if you want, Ben could make you a more accurate holster, like the ones he's made for our Indys.

My suggestions in no way are meant to insult or insinuate that Ben and my Indys are better. Just to maybe help an awesome customizer out.

By the way, have you seen mine and Ben's Indy figures?

And I'm going to update my Indy's page soon. I repainted the head a few days ago.

I got the jacket and the pants and boots from a G.I. Joe 12" Tuskeegee Airman figure a few years ago...

Great work Jedi Mike. I love Mary's work. I was, up until today, bidding on some of her Indy gear until it got up to $76. Yeesh! Not willing to pay that for a couple of accessories. But anyway, great work.

See if this jacket looks familiar. http://mrfusion1138.tripod.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://mrfusion1138.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/myindianajonescustom312.jpg&target=tlx_new&title=Picture%20added%207-17-07

Yep, it's the Tuskegee jacket. Ben removed the wrist and waist bands and sewed the bottoms down. He also made the sewn crease in the backhttp://mrfusion1138.tripod.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://mrfusion1138.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/ben_indy_jacket.jpg&target=tlx_new&title=(10-14-06)%20Ben%20dry-brushed%20the%20whole%20jacket%20black.

And yeah, the eyes can make or break a figure. In facial appearance, anyway.

So, keep up the good work. I really envy your Indy gear. Speaking of, check out this site: http://www.indygear.com/index.shtml Sorry if there are too may links in this post, but the last one is definitely worth a look-see.

Thanks for the links Mr. Fusion! I appreciate it. You guys did great work on your custom Indy. Yeah, I like the Tuskeegee Airman jacket I have too. I plan on doing the same thing you guys did. That's the same thing I've said about mine Josh. I had wanted the old Raiders Kenner Indy 12" figure from since it was released. I remember seeing it at a local Target store and begging my Mom to get it for me when it was a measly $10.00. She didn't, and I never got around to getting it. So, when I finally had the chance to make my own (with Mary Lacour's help), I did it. I am thrilled to finally have my own Indy to proudly display and enjoy. I will still get Sideshow's Indy(s) when they're released...but will still always love the one that I made! :D

Is this Custom Indy party open to old timers like me? Like this old, old, old thing?

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a10/angremien/Indy3.jpg

I made him so long ago (ten years or more, with some addons in the meantime...), that the methods for making him now are so much better, and the accuracy of parts available are so much more on top of things, that I feel I need to revamp this old guy.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a10/angremien/Indy1.jpg

Josh, LISTEN TO Mr. FUSION! That kid knows his stuff! That belt, get one! And his brother Ben can make rocking holsters! Especially for the Last Crusade Indy! The darker one. Ben does EXCELLENT work! His Marion outfit is too good! Like you said, it inspires!

But yeah, I need to completely redo my own's belts, holster (Yes MrF, I have Ben's belt...I need to get to it and get it on him soon now...), and get those Newline shoes you guys keep speaking of. (any links?) These on mine are repainted plastic ones, and I am very proud of them, but I can always use some upgrades before upgrades go out of style.
I mean, when Sideshow's figures show up, and we get Trevor's headsculpts, these will be OLD NEWS! The days of customizing Indy will slow to a trickle. End of an era. :monkey2

But a good end! :D I am happy for all you who simply haven't had one before now, that will be able to get one at long last. (Great job on your's too Mike! Love your accessories too! Those stones look perfect!)

Anyway, I am glad to have a custom one to add to the mix as well!

If they get Ford's likeness down, and include the correct accessories and clothing. I think all of us can be proud of the custom Indys we've made. :D

The GG proto for Indy & Henry in the motorcycle bodes well for us to get Henry Jones, Sr. from Sideshow as well, as this settles that Connery's likeness is available for use for this property.

I'd kill for a German bike with the Jones boys on it in 1:6; it's up there with Jabba on his throne and the Power Loader as most wanted 1:6 things ever.

For me Last Crusade isn't on quite the same level as Raiders and Temple of Doom; my "crown jewel" 1:6 scale accessory would be something along the lines of Indy's horse from Raiders, a Temple of Doom mining car or rope bridge section, and of course the Ark itself.

I agree... although I also think Temple of Doom isn't on quite the same level as the masterpiece Raiders.

I'm not certain exactly of the appeal of Crusade when compared to Raiders. I think Crusade took a simple opposite "Bond" type hero and gave him a 'lesson learned' story that has now become what Indiana Jones is all about. I'm not much for lessons... I like adventure!

At the end of Crusade I almost expected Indy to address the screen like He-Man and say "You know kids, communication is important." :)

For me Last Crusade isn't on quite the same level as Raiders and Temple of Doom; my "crown jewel" 1:6 scale accessory would be something along the lines of Indy's horse from Raiders, a Temple of Doom mining car or rope bridge section, and of course the Ark itself.

I shudder to think how much all those would cost. The accessories are why I'll be collecting the Hasbro 3 3/4" stuff. From Sideshow I just want a perfect 12" Indy (although I'd probably buy a torn shirt Temple version, a tuxedo Temple version, a tie Last Crusade version, an older Indy 4 version and a Sean Connery Dr. Jones as well).

Ultimate Soldier did a 1:6 German motorcycle with sidecar that is on eBay quite regularly. It's been used in more than a few Last Crusade customs!

This should be done as a PF!!! Speederbike eat your heart out.

Here's another pic of Shia from the set that reminds me of the Map Room scene in Raiders..:rock

That would be excellent. At least a pre-order this year for 2008 delivery!

Indiana in classic Raiders garb, with exclusive Staff of Ra headpiece... (something different than the usual Peruvian idol would be nice).

It's set in 1957 (21 years after RAIDERS), so obviously yeah... his field gear never changes.

How is it obvious his field gear, outfit, weapons, etc, wouldn't change in 21 years? Seems more like a Costume continuity issue rather than reality.

I'm sure it's been ripped and destroyed and replaced dozens of times over. That's just the type of clothes that Indy is most comfortable in when he goes on his "expeditions."

Plus, as we saw at the beginning of The Last Crusade, Indy's 'expedition' attire is a send-up/tribute to the character of 'Fedora' (played by Richard Young) who places the classic piece of headwear on young Indy's head. If 'Fedora' wore that get-up in 1912, and Indy in the 30's...20 to 25 years later...why can't he wear it another 20 years after that?

I think people tend to forget how haggard and defeated Indy looked at several moments in the original films, including RAIDERS.

Watched LAST CRUSADE tonight and there are moments where only the gray hair will make the difference with INDY IV.

No worries at all here.

I'm with Irish, I watch it yesterday and Ford has aged well, especially compared to him from Doom to Crusade where he had aged a bit. And concidering that the story of this one takes into account his age it should be fine... It was like Rocky Balboa, it was done well right and you believed it and enjoyed it... Least I did.

I think it's a combination of that plus Ford truly identifying with the character and enjoying playing him. He's just a completely different actor in the Indy role (and to a less extent, Han Solo) than in 99% of the other films he seems to cakewalk through.

OK, since everyone is showing off their INDY, I thought I'd finally show off mine:

This figure has an interesting history: It originally belonged to Chris King (cking) and I acquired it from him in 2002. Apparently, this was one of Sovereign Studios prototype Indiana Jones figures from which he created the clothing patterns for the ones we've all seen so many times since then. Chris worked very closely with Shawn at Sovereign on this one to get all the scale and details correct for its time. When I saw, back in 2002, I just had to have it. It has a unique head sculpt I've never seen before or since. Let me know what you guys think?

My shots from 2002 -- before my kitchen became the focal point:

Thanks Galactiboy!

Yes, the hat is a wee bit big. But its made out of a great "foam-type" material that feels real, looks great on its own and has been made accurately dirty. In fact, I may use it on the SS version to come as my Indy is on the short side so it should work on the SS scale very nicely...especially if their hat is made of plastic.
