Was offered one, but never seen it in person. Any opinions on the quality and size of this piece? Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have had the chance to get one on more than a few occasions for a very low price -- never went for it. It is rather small, of course it fits in the mini-beast line well; but at that scale the ML looks downright bad. The Fellbeast sculpt is great, but a melted lump of ML on top ruined this one for me.

Wait for the Legendary Scale Fellbeast bust! :rock

This is one of my favorite pieces...I was lucky enough to get one with a decently established ML and war mask on it. The fellbeast alone was worth it for me!!!

I love mine. I thought this was what the diorama line would look like. But NOOOOOO.

Any opinions on the quality and size of this piece? Any opinions would be appreciated.

About 95% my collection is "bad guys", and at one point I had quite a few of these. My intention was always to keep one [with the best paint job] for my personal collection. While the sculpt itself is quite good I always thought it would have looked better without the tiny little ML on top. Though the paint job on all of mine was quite good [in quality], they were all purplish in color, something to this day I have never been able to figure out. Lastly, I just thought it was a little too small in scale, at least for me. Had it been one of SS $300 statues and more in line with the size of their other $300 pieces I would have preferred it alot more, and I would have kept one for myself. Just too much working against it for me to want to keep one....but if you don't mind the smallish scale or purplish color, it might be a nice addition to your collection.

It's one of my absolute top ten pieces. I'll never part from mine.

And the beasts were designed to look purple, which didn't read that well on film. Still, the paintjob is nothing short of exquisite, and the composition and sculpting is a MASTERPIECE. The size and the tiny WiKi don't bother me one bit.

I love, love, love this piece.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the mini beasts. I passed when it was available at retail.

I wasn't bad it wasn't great. I used to have one but it wasn't very big and I didn't like the way the Witchking looked sitting on it. The Fellbeast wasn't bad looking but it was small. I tried to like it but in the end I just didn't.

I had two of them at one point and sold them both again.

The sculpt of the beast is great, but the size just didn't do it for me - I was disappointed when I first saw it in real life, somehow, I was imagining something bigger by looking at pictures.

Also, the Withcking is just too small to really look cool and the "seat" he sits on looks like... (thinks) ... a chair with cut off legs maybe? Or something of the like glued on the back of the Fellbeast. I don't remember how it was in the movies but I'd guess he either sat right on the Fellbeast's back or had a saddle of some kind, but certainly not a "chair" with a straigth backrest...

Anyways, now that I have decided to complete the SSW statue line, I had to get one back into my collection, and displayed next to the Mini Balrog it doesn't look so out of place anymore.

Speaking of Minas Morgul, I still can't believe the aftermarket prices on that thing. I didn't even think it was really worth the $80.00, had it not come with the Elessar crown.

Had mine up for sale on Ebay about 2 minutes after I opened the box for the 1st time! What a lousy paint job....worth $80?? Not a chance. I'd love to see the look on people's faces when they behold this thing for the 1st time after paying $200+ for it. Could be the next "priceless" Mastercard commercial.

It'll be the sort of look I think you're going to see an awful lot of ...when people see their Crack of Doom diorama for the 1st time.

Like all my minibeasts. Really like the Fell Beast sinuously wrapped around the rock...posed for flight at a moment's notice. The small ML never bothered me.

I think it would have been a much better statue had it been $300 and alot larger.

No, I don't buy that.

It's way more difficult to sculpt something small, and yet have it look menacing and real. Of course everyone is going to get wowed by the big pieces, but that's just brute mass and volume speaking.

The Fell Beast is everything it has to be -- as Rumi said, sinuous and menacing -- and that's hard to pull off at such a small scale. It could've looked twee and unprepossessing. Or it could have resembled one of the million dragon pieces out there.

But it's not. It's its own thing, and amazingly so. She's easily in the top three of the pieces I own, and I own over a hundred.

....what puny and purple  Could have been just as sinuous, more detailed, and a whole lot more menacing...in a larger scale

Thanks for this thread, I've wanted to complain about this piece for a long time, but never really got to it. I don't understand why I payed so much for the ML on fellbeast (secondary market, some years ago); I wish I hadn't. The beast is nice, the rock very accurate, but, hey, is that really a Morgul Lord sitting on that beast? I mean MORGUL LORD, man! It looks more like a mini morgul lord to me! You need a magnifying glass to see him!
I always wanted to get rid of it. You know, if someone would offer me a nice trade or something. But then I thought, what the heck. He is in a box somewhere, and that's that.

Well Said! It is a well crafted [except for that teenie weenie ML on top] statue that obviously took alot of time and skill to create. The rocks look good and the way the FB is wrapped around the rocks makes for an excellent pose.
But it's purple! :banghead Now it has been explained that the FB was purple in the book...that's great, but since these statue's are based on the images and likenesses of the movies I want to see a grey FB, not a purple one.

Secondly, it is so small! :banghead Way too small for the subject matter. Alice is right, you practically need a magnifying glass to see the ML properly and I definitely need my reading glasses to fully appreciate the detail on the FB itself.

A nice piece?...yes. :D Menacing? [maybe to ants and other small insects]...no. And certainly not worth anything above issue price...at least IMHO.

If it has to be big for you to appreciate it, don't buy it.

On the other hand, if you can appreciate something moderate size -- excluding the base it is almost 10 inches -- and beautifully sculpted, add it to your collection. Of course the Morgul Lord is small. He has to be in proportion to the beast. Mine doesn't look half as bad as some seem to think though and he certainly isn't just a "blob" as some have said.

I'm delighted to have mine.

I love this statue and its in scale so whatever you guys are expecting the ML to look like on the back of the Fellbeast' neck, if he was any bigger he'd look like a muppet on there! Its done to scale and the Fellbeast really is what that sculpture is about, we have the ML in other formats and yes it would have been stunning to see it in a bigger scale but I think it is very well done and doesn't deserve the thrashing its getting on here! Remember guys we are spoiled now as the current sculptures coming out are a lot better and esp since we are now exposed to PF formats. Sereteur you were very accurate in saying, its difficult to keep the detail on a scale such as this and I think they did a great job! For some people, no matter what these talented sculptors come up with, it's never enough!! :lol

Big is a relative term-- he is just the right size for me:

I'm not one who thinks big is always better, though it certainly has its place-- I'd rather have the Frodo/Gollum diorama as it is as oppose to it being 1/4 scale.

It's a nice little piece. And the LITTLE is the problem, it's totally out of scale with any of the other WETA statues and that makes it very by itself. I sold mine because I just couldnt display it because of the size/scale.

...sounds like SOMEONE got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning :slap Are you sure you have the right thread  I've read every posting on this thread and have seen some very positive remarks made by others [myself included] as well as some constructive criticism [myself included], but thrashing? ...hardly

I myself have kept about 20 of my favorite statues...some I consider to be really good, a few of them close to perfect, but that doesn't mean they don't flaw's [except the RWoS of course, it is perfect!]. Does that mean I like them any less? ...not at all, I simply refuse to look at them [or anything else for that matter] with blinders on. I'm gonna leave the cheerleading to 18 year olds in short skirts thanks... :ccheerlea

Well . . .IMHO the Fellbeast displayed best with Minas Morgul, which is where I have mine. If you know how to display yours, then it'll do just fine. There's no SS/W piece I thought was too small or too big for its own size. I go more for the details. This is pretty much the only game out there in terms of a Fell Beast. If they took out the Morgul Lord, I still would've bought it. For me, I needed to have my own Fell Beast, the same way I had to have Shelob . . .and all the other beasties out there. One thing I admired about this piece was the detail they put into it. I had a hard time figuring out how they sculpted this the way they did. One thing though was its spikes were liable to chip off. If they came out with a larger version, I would've been happier. Alas this was not the case. Regardless . . .size matters not when it's the only game in town!
