View Full Version : Sideshow CIV Exclusive Confirmed

According to a guy at Rebelscum, his friend asked Sideshow at Toy Fair if they will be having a C IV exclusive. They said yes, it will be 1:6, but NOT Vader. Other than that he says it will be very much worth the trip. Sorry if the title made you think the actual item's identity was confirmed.

I wonder if this might be the "Star Wars annoucement" on Wednesday? I just hope it is as easy for non-attendees to get at Vaderkin was since I won't be going to CIV (possibly SDCC again though).
Sorry again about the title, I couldn't think of another way to say Sideshow confrims they will have a CIV exclusive.

I doubt Wednesday's announcement will be regarding this, I imagine the C4 announcement will be tied into a massive slew of press releasing about the convention.
Its going to be plo koon different robes exclusive!

They HAVE TO allow us who aren't going to order it, not to would be WWIII. It's already in production to meet the deadline, I'm thinking it'll be a variation of something we've seen before, Endor Luke, Endor Han, another Endor soldier. I can't wait to see it!

I think it would be something ANH related since CIV is all about ANH right? The Chess set would have actually been a great exclusive IMO.

I think they also learned what it was like to NOT have an exclusive item at a SW Celebration. Their booth at C3 was basically a big tease for many collectors. Sideshow was basically the only major licensee that didn't have an exclusive item. Heck, even the company that does the SW checks had special stuff there.
This is no surprise at all. An exclusive item from SSC at C4 was a no-brainer all along.

Ya, pretty stinky that the only EC event is in NY but not for fans/collectors. At least we get the satisfaction of thrill of victory getting our hands on the exclusive when they only unleash a few hundred, I proudly own Vader and take joy in making their server catch on fire :)

Seems to me it would be that would use the opportunity to do an EU character or another variant on an already established figure. I guess we'll have to wait and find out for sure.
Darth Loki
02-12-2007, 05:49 PM
SS would never pull a GG and release a super limited edition of a wanted character. It would be some sort of variant to an existing or soon to be announced character. (Please don't prove me wrong SS)

Even though most people want it to be a Sage figure, specifically OT and ANH, I could see CW Padme being the exclusive or one of the other Fan Choice figures because this is a convention for the fans so to make the Exclusive something those very fans voted on and made happy could be a nice reward to them (I want Padme so I'd worry about not getting one of the few NAs they make available).

Sideshow learned their lesson of PF Con exclusives with Luke. It is just too hard for people to carry around all day.
I should have taken a picture of my hands after a day at SDCC 2005. PF Luke, POTA Lawgiver statue, Patient Zero, Hooded Rohirrim, Ultimate Hellboy, Thor's Hammer and Helmet, and Werewolf Oz. I carried them around all day in two large Sideshow bags.
My hands were literally shaking and almost bleeding by the time I got to the car. Last year I got a room at the Omni and just walked them across the street after I picked them up.
But actually, they gave you the option of having Luke shipped for free instead of picking it up in person. I was just too excited and I thought getting it in person might get me a lower number. (Didn't work.)

I'm sure the edition size will be smaller than the Comic-Con exclusive this time----well, depending on what it is.
I hope it's something cool, maybe we can burn up their servers again trying to order. But I really hope the annoucement later this week is Chewie rather than the C4 exclusive.

Darth Waller
02-27-2007, 09:33 AM
I think it would make a cool exclusive because it wouldn't be a repainted figure like last year's SDCC Anakin and it would be the type of figure that everyone wouldn't want, so a limited number of them would be a perfect fit.
The Mike

People would be ticked if the ES wasn't high enough for them to get one. Not to mention I'd rather them get a regular Vader done first before a concept one. Though I'd take that one as well..
TheObsoleteMan
02-27-2007, 10:33 AM
Carbonite Han is a bad idea for a convention exclusive unless the ES is high. You'll have a lot of potentially ticked off Jabba owners out there if they can't get a Han to go with their display.
Seaward
02-27-2007, 12:43 PM
I would guess that any exclusives for this line should be relatively easy to get. Sideshow did a nice job of pre-ordering the SDCC exclusives for the last couple of years, and the SDCC Anakin seemed to hit the right number, so that those who wanted one could get one.

Seretur

Seriously, that one podcast has completely confused the discussion of the 12" and Diorama lines.
Now, the official diorama announcement said: "The designs for the Star Wars 'Versus' dioramas were drawn from the most dynamic and dramatic confrontations in the films, and the environments will seek to capture some of the Star Wars Saga's vast landscapes, immense creatures and varied locations - but in a reasonable size that collectors can display on a desktop or hang on a wall. The size and scale will vary, but most of the 'Versus' dioramas will be in approximately 1:9 scale. The Star Wars 'Versus' environments will vary greatly in size and scale."
I listened to the podcast only once, but don't remember hearing anything more revealing than this. That is, unless the talk turned to the 12" figures somehow... my mind must've blacked that out.

That's my guess/expectation as well.
Also, I got off the phone with someone at Lucasfilm today. They're all pretty stressed and behind the gun when it comes to CIV preparation (in a good way, don't worry), so I expect them to make sure the licensees (SSC included) get on the ball with their stuff planend for the Con.
Shouldn't be long before we know more details.

It's always better to slap someone in the face with the Clone Wars Obi than with a rubber chicken.
In other news, this C4 diorama will be in our hands a good three months before the Obi-Wan vs. Anakin dio. Provided it is the ANH Obi-Wan vs. Vader diorama, it will be announced later, and shipping sooner -- nicely mirroring the filmed earlier, but taking place later chronology of the two films. Another hint: The key word in the tease that was in the newsletter for the diorama/environment is 'unique'... there's no way you're gonna guess, but keep trying ;)
Would it possibly be the opening shot of Episode IV...the Tantive IV over Tatooine with a Star Destroyer in pursuit?
It would be unique in that it would be the only diorama that didn't include actual characters...only vehicles and environments. Actually, wouldn't that be a first for any SSC diorama so far? They've all had characters in them, haven't they??
As for the 1/6 scale figure, I'm guessing it will either be Farmboy Luke (with a modified Jedi Luke headsculpt) or Greedo (an iconic but not main character).

So it's not Obi-Wan vs. Vader, eh?
Probably not Dagobah Luke vs. Dagobah Vader either, as we have a PF of (basically) that.
Could be so many things that I'm not even going to bother guessing... but whatever it is, I'm so there for the first minute of the non-attendee preorder.

I am guessing that the diorama will be a 1:9 scale repesentation of the medal ceremony, with all of the rebel alliance in the set, even the hundreds of rebel troops that all turn in unison. It will cost $1138.00 in celebration of all things lucas, and CIV attendees will be stuck carrying this thing around. Not that I am jealous that you guys get to go to CIV:monkey2
Not that I am done being a jack@$$ for a minute, was it confirmed that the diorama is 1:9 scale (like the Obi/Anakin duel) or is it something to accompany the 1:6 scale line? If it is 1:6, I hope it is Luke's landspeeder.

Alderaan Troopers vs. Stormtroopers
Vader vs. Tantive IV Captain
Vader vs. Leia
Threepio vs. Artoo (kicking him)
Jawas vs. Artoo
Luke vs. Uncle Ben ("But I was going to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters!!!1!")
Luke vs. Tusken
Obi-Wan vs. Dr. Evazan & Ponda Baba
Han vs. Greedo (not that GG hasn't done that already)
Han vs. Jabba & Henchmen (ha!)
Han vs. Sandtroopers
Vader & Tarkin vs. Leia
Luke vs. Training Remote
Chewbacca vs. Artoo (yes! more dejarik!)
Han & Luke vs. Scanning Crew
Han, Luke & Chewie vs. Imperial command outpost
Han, Luke & Chewie vs. Detention Block outpost
The Trash Compactor
Han vs. Stormtroopers
Luke & Leia vs. Stormtroopers (chasm)
Obi-Wan vs. Vader (fat chance, apparently)
Luke, Leia, Han & the Droids running up the Falcon ramp
...And every other conflict in the movie is between spaceships.

Could be Luke haggling over the price of his landspeeder, while Garindan looks on in the distance.
Something that we would never guess...maybe an empty Millenium Falcon, with the figures "hidden" under the floorboards.
Could be Vader and the Imperial Officers
Could be just about anything, since it was called a diorama/environment, I am not sure if that means 1:6 scale, or something else. I would love for it to be something 1:6 scale.
Do you think the distributed figure will be a Medicom ROTJ Fett?
Seretur

Whatever it is, if there's going to be a significant environment included (and that's what it sounds like) it's probably going to be smaller than sixth-scale, just to make room for the environment.

ok, so here are my real ideas based on all the clues so far. I don't think it will be an action oriented piece, no vs. here. Also the use of "diaorama/enviroment" tells me to expect something very different then the norm.
Luke, Owen and Beru around the Lars family table.
The blue milk idea really got me thinking about this. Its iconic, yet unexpected. That was a very enlightening meal, talk of Obi Wan & Luke's father, and one of the greatest dialogues in the entire trilogy.
"There's to much of his father in him Owen"
"That's what I'm afraid of"
Please don't jump me if those aren't exact but I'm going of the cuff here. Back on subject... I'd buy it. Real central scene for the whole saga. And of course there would have to be blue milk on the table. :D
Luke learning about the Force on the Falcon
Now i know this may sound wierd but this may explain the suprise Dajerik table, if your going to be making a couple thousand in 1/9 scale why not make a couple more thousand at 1/6 scale too. A diaroama of Chewie and the Droids playing holo-chess, Luke practicing with the remote, Ben watching with the satisfied look of knowing his final mission has finally begun, and Han with his feet on the console would be amazing! Size wise it might be a little on the large side, but if they could pull it off I would have to get one.:monkey5
I want to keep typing ideas out but those are my two most fleshed out ones so if I get any more hair brained ones I'll be back.

Seretur
03-11-2007, 01:52 PM
I wouldn't like a diorama to be turned into a plaque, just to be wall-hangable.
There are plenty of environments that would need to be hung on a wall for proper positioning, like the "I am your father" Bespin enviro. Those I would expect to hang on a wall, but not pieces that would normally be placed on a flat surface.
Darklord Dave

Something said at ORC regarding the Frodo/Gollum piece --
"There isn't more of the environment because they were going for the emotionality of the moment and the conflict between the characters."
Based on that I doubt we'll ever get a static scene in the dioramas from ANY line. They will all be key emotional points in the stories. Which certainly makes sense I think.
So the "Luke, I am your father" or the Ep IV Vader vs. Obi-wan would be more likely.

Good point Dave, I got the impression when the Dio line started for Star Wars, that it'd be like the Hasbro Unleashed line, only realistic representations of movie moments, but capturing moments of energy, emotion and conflict.

Thanks for the scoop, Dave!
I started out saying that this might be the ANH duel diorama, but Sideshow quickly said the early predictions are off; if it's the Bespin diorama -- I'd be in seven times seventh heaven.
(Although I'd expect the entire gantry, precisely to capture the emotion and the conflict of the scene!)

It could work, and deffinately a good candidate for the dio line, but not likely the CIV dio, I think most fans could see that coming and wouldn't be caught off guard by that choice. I'd wager something more memorable but doesn't stand out quick in the mind, like a dio of Luke, Obi and the droids in the landspeeder with Obi-Wan waving off a sandtrooper, classic moment, but I don't think that'd be the kinda moment people would think of quickly if they had to give ideas for a dio piece.

I actually really want that as a diorama. I would really like for something like that to be in scale with the GG Sandtrooper and Dewback. That would be awesome.

A very good choice, and right on track, seemingly.
The more I think of this piece (and I do, being idle and all), the less I think it'll even be a VS. The pointedly announced it as a diorama/environment, which would indicate the ambient is more important to it than the conflict.
(Btw, I just bought the GG Han vs. Greedo bookend diorama -- that one is in scale with the Dewback, which I don't think I'll ever be able to afford...)

That's pretty much my point, I think many people would like that piece, I don't think anyone will not like what it is, but based on SSC hints, it's going to be a moment like that where it is memorable and all, but like I said, if you had to spout of 10 classic moments to dio in a a minute, I doubt that moment would be on too many people's lists.

I kind of hope Sideshow releases the Landspeeder Luke Obi-Wan and the droids as the major 12" announcement for this year but I guess I can just go on dreaming. The Landspeeder could be $250, a droids 2 pack would be $100, Luke and Obi-Wan coming in at around $60 each and we basically have what we had last year at SDCC except they all better be inclusives.

My new guess is Princess Leia giving R2 the stolen Death Star plans aboard the Tantive IV. A truly classic but unique moment. I believe I just had a moment of inspiration.

Reasoning:
Truly a classic moment
not something people would think about at first ( it took me a week)
Small in size at that scale
Would be good to carry around in about at 12 X 12 X 6 box.

I'd take a Millenium Falcon environment for the 12" line over a landspeeder any day... The chess table was the hint--- two sets before the end of the year--- the MF c_o_c_k_pit and the "lounge" part where Chewie plays R2D2 and Luke learns that crazy old religion--- but then nothing beats a good blaster at your side, right Han (CIV ex for ANH?)

Like the "Vader" (Sith Anakin) an Exclusive would have to be a variation on a pre-existing figure (otherwise there'd be a riot if a totally new figure emerged for only CIV and a handful for others). In that reasoning a new 12" figure would have to be announced well in advance with its variant the exclusive (and it must be in the works ready to roll out so there must be 12"---from ANH hopefully--- ready to come out to play---er, for pre-order).

Not really that unrealistic when you consider each exclusive will be PPO which is usually 1 per week
3 products = 3 weeks (attendee Thursday, non-attendee Friday)
Aren't SDCC exclusives are sorted out a month in advance?
plus last week's NL stated "very soon" in regards to more info, which usually means next week

I'm betting the 12" exclusive will be Endor Luke. They already have the helmet sculpt, all they'd need is a poncho. Plus he'd also go with the Endor Troops which should be shipping right around that time.

That's a good assumption but it HAS to be something from ANH... With the 30th anniversary you'd have to think that SS have been planning ahead to unleash their ANH figs from the 12" line now. That's why we've only had one fig from ESB (Han) and the other OT from ROTJ---- all (or should I say several) the ANH are going to be announced in the coming months and the chess table was the taste of this year's overall theme....:D

Could be Han as well. They said it would be "iconic" so I'm thinking a main character for sure or at least a very memorable character like say Greedo. I just have a feeling it would be ANH themed since C IV is for ANH. They aren't like GG. They actually TRY to have good exclusives (ie not critical to a collection yet cool to have AND easily available to non-attendees).

The C IV exclusive (if it follows form) would be a variant of an existing figure--- Luke has four possibilities from ANH: farmboy, farmboy in poncho and hat, x-wing pilot, and celebration attire...
The smart money is on one of these being announced (farmboy) and the exclusive for C IV being a variant of it (poncho and hat anyone?).

Yeah I know it is likely a variant, but you never know. Kit was going to be last year's SDCC exclusive afterall.
I wouldn't want a "farm" Luke AND a "poncho" Luke. Farm Luke's exclusives should be the poncho and hat. Its too simple a figure to make two versions of otherwise. (three if the regular Farm Luke had an exclusive)

Kit Fisto was going to be last year's SDCC exclusive? I never heard of that. That would put a fly in the ointment because then that would mean that any ANH iconic character could be up for it--- I guess then Greedo would be back in the game.
I think farmboy Luke would come with: blaster, lightsaber, binoculars, rifle, blast helmet, training laser thingie, and the exclusive would be the poncho and hat (since Qui Gon's exclusive was also the poncho).

This CIV convention is in May, right? I don't see how they could announce ANH Luke (which wouldn't even ship til the 3rd or 4th qtr.), and then have a variant of it ready to sell by then.
The Josh
03-14-2007, 08:36 PM
Yeah, he was gonna be but they decided that would cause too many people to be upset. Which is why I don't think it will be someone new unless the ES is fairly high.
MaulFan
03-14-2007, 08:44 PM
It could be a new figure also if they figured on a particular character/version being of certain popularity, set edition sizes ahead, and have already produced that figure ready to ship once you place your order and previewed before. I'm guessing more so, it'll be a higher ES new figure first offered at the convention, because as much as I would love just a variation of something out now in case I have issues with the non-attendee PPO, the fact they stated it'd be an "Iconic" 1/6 figure says it's something we haven't seen because the idea of what Iconic Star Wars character appearances are is nothing we've seen yet, unless Sideshow considers something they've already done to be Iconic on some level, I just want to know already, especially if it's new, nothing better than first seeing a new SSC Star Wars figure :)

Too departed from Boushh to be a variant, the only thing close to Iconic variant of an existing figure that would be different but similar enough not to worry people that miss out on it might be Bespin Han with no jacket, arm restraints, and a carbon freezing chamber inspired base.

I like the Han idea for a variant, how about a Pit of Carkoon Han instead? Slightly browner shirt, adjusted headsculpt with squinty eyes and of course since weapons, the breather and the Mynock wouldn't fit thrown in a Han in Carbonite for good measure.

I personally don't see a variant of an existing OT figure that I would describe as "iconic". Carkoon Han? Endor Luke? Please. Those may be cool, but they are hardly ICONIC imho. It's gotta be something new, like Old Ben or Han, Luke or Leia from ANH. Those are iconic.
I do like the Tusken Raider idea, though. Those are pretty iconic too.

I agree no variant on released product would be Iconic, but the CIV 1/6 sure raises a lot of curiousity, I don't know how PF Luke was dealt with at SDCC, but last year Anakin came well before the SDCC Vader so to have a con exclusive coming with the Iconic tag to it is quite confusing, I really wonder how this will go down, these are the scenarios I can think of.
Convention only offered figure with high ES for non-attendees.
Variant of an upcoming release and because the con is around the corner, the figure would have to be production and so would the base figure which will soon go up for preorder and be ready to ship immediately.
Variant of an upcoming release with the base figure to be released at a date after the convention.
Those are the only ways I can imagine this could happen, and my gut says the first scenario of a figure with only one version being made specifically for CIV is likely to be the case because making a base figure and setting ES before sales seems like a huge gamble compared to standard SSC sales with regular editions, and having the variant come before the base figure would be unusual as well.

I think that any of those three would be iconic enough for the 30th Anniversary and relatively simple enough to have produced in time. (They have, of course, been working on it for a while now.) I think that iconic Leia would really bug fans since she would be so different from the existing figure, and everybody is going to need Old Ben when the Vader gets released. Old Ben would be an easy entry into the long list of Jedi figures, but they can't make a limited number of him and then an inclusive amount of Vaders for him to duel. That's why I think Farmboy Luke is the best bet. There is already a Luke available, and I think they can do a Bespin Luke with a huge edition size down the road. If I had to guess, I would pick Luke to be the CIV exclusive.

All the non-attendee preorders have always been a sheer joy with Sideshow. Even from the other side of the world, I was always able to get precisely what I wanted -- and even the waitlist worked, when I was unable to be there at the precise moment. (That's why I now own the Thor Archive set, as good a purchase as any I've ever made.)
So I don't even worry about these items being convention exclusives, as I'm sure to be able to get them.
As for the identity of the 12" -- it has to be Farmboy Luke. Tom's sig is there for a reason. :)
