View Full Version : Will There Be Any New 1:6 Scale Stuff at TF?

Gotta admit I'm a bit concerned that when SSC unveils its display at TF '07 this weekend, they won't have anything from the 1:6 line except for the Chess Table Expansion Pack. I will be extremely disappointed if that's the case.
Does anybody know if SSC will have more from the 1:6 line... or is this new 1:9 scale line their new baby?:maul

This could mean that C-3PO and Chewbacca are on the horizon...it'd kind of be a waste of having a 1:6 scale chess table without proper figures to go along with it to show a scene!
But Sideshow said no armored figures for at minimum a year and C-3PO is somewhat "armored".
Hmmm

I think it'd be safe to say what they've stated will be there is it for showings at TF, but if you look at what was done last TF, they're previewing more than last year, as lil as their will be, I think the biggest 1/6 news will come at SDCC and / or C4.

Thats going to be the Diorama I think. If you look petty much everrthing that got shown fits the daily lists.

I wouldn't expect any new 1/6 stuff at TF, the Chess Table is a tease for CIV. Even then we won't get it all. SDCC is the show and expect all to be show there....that's where we got Jabba remember....

It's possible more news may come over the next few days, but as far as seeing product there, I think we have been shown the full display already, but they could announce other figures relative to the chess table, like when they preorder say, and stay tuned to our newsletter for an announcement about ..... something like that maybe.

I believe we've seen just about all we're gonna see. We still have several months between the next two big shows. Plus months after that.

Well ok we are suppose to have an announcement tomorrow which Im guessing is the diorama line, Darth Maul Preorder on Tuesday, and finally a Star Wars preorder and announcement on Wednesday. I dont think the Medicom VCD will count. So Wednesday may be the day, just a guess.

You can look at it as SDCC didn't blow there entire wad for the next 6 months at one time. I mean come on with all the stuff GG showed thats all they have for the next 6 months. Sideshow like to keep up on the edge a lil more.

That is true, but, GG basically just mounts their product on a wall and says here it is. Sideshow, Jabba as an example, makes their showings more like big unveilings and museum like display arrangements, they have big things coming for sure, they just aren't ready or this isnt' the venue to do anything with them.

There will be pretty much defintly be some sort of 12" exclusive for C4 and SDCC. They will probally anounce them a month or so before I would guess.

I don't think for C4. I would believe they would have said something by now.

Its still 3 months to C4 and from what I can tell it was only 2 months from Sith Anakin to SDCC last year

I ordered my SDCC Vader in April of last year and SDCC wasn't until July. That's four months from order to recieving and they had him in development before that. They've already set the same time line for this years SDCC exclusives. So if they're going to do something for C4 it better be announced quick.

Man SS, jump up on it! I want a Palpatine and a Chewie! I hope it's one of those things that gets announced after the Toy air, kinda like "you thought we were done" but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Why is that? They've never done anything for the ORC Celebrations as well as C3. SS isn't GG and gonna exclusive everyone out pissing off everybody. Enough folks get pissy about the SDCC Exclusives.

I would figure that with the time and money that toy fair must cost a company to go and exhibit there, they would have shown new material. I am surprised that no new 1:6 are seemingly there.
Color me disappointed. I am sorry, a chess table does not excite me.

Celebration IV is a gazillion times bigger than SDCC for Star Wars fans, that's why.
Plus, Sideshow was pretty much the ONLY licensee at C3 without an exclusive (much to the dismay of many SW fans and collectors, believe me). But they had just stared the PF line then.
No excuse this time. If they don't come to C4 with something special they are dropping the ball (and not for the first time by some counts).
I thought people generally dislike exclusives though. I know I'd rather have a straight up new release at a huge convention than just some rehashed exclusive.

You have to understand the mindset of diehard SW collectors. They are all about the exclusives (even though they whine about them). Trust me, exclusive collectibles are VITAL to these Celebrations. Lucasfilm knows that too.
Dare I surmise that Lucasfilm would be among the most disappointed with SSC if they don't have something special at C4.

Do you work for Lucasfilm? If not you're generalizing. There's no doubt that SW fans are insane, but not everyone can make it across the country to attend a SW event. I for one hate exclusives because all of these events are ALWAYS on the West Coast. It's not fair to have to rely on the courtesy of someone else to get something for me.
Just because these are your feelings, don't assume we all feel the same. Don't knock SS for having the courtesy to not put out 20 different event exclusives a year. (Knock them for raffles, Grey variations, Negative Zone variations, black and red variations.........)

No, I don't work for LFL directly... but I'm not generalizing either. I have several close friends who work there, including those who organize these events.(Hence the pics in my signature image below)
Trust me, I know. Exclusives are a HUGE part of Star Wars Celebrations... more and more so for each one, in fact. If SSC is not prepared to do something special for C4 they wouldn't be earning any brownie points, trust me.
That said, I think they WILL have something at C4. In fact, I'll be utterly shocked if they don't.
yeah i guess for myself, I dont get so excited over exclusive since they are generally nothing really new. just some altercation of an already existing thing. so if ssc didnt do them for cons I wouldnt feel like they dropped the ball. But in a business standpoint, they would have dropped the ball since the revenue from just that simple tweak of an already existing item would be tremendous.
good point with the brownie points the IJ, and yes I too will be shocked if they didnt have an exclusive for every big con even though Id prefer them to just reveal a new release.

Oh, stop. You're the one who assumed I don't know what I'm talking about. Nor have I ever intimated that I know what you are anyone else is thinking. I was just simply sharing the fact that exclusive items are a huge part of these Star Wars Celebrations and that Lucasfilm is aware of that and they are more than encouraging their licensees to have special collectibles and events at C4.
How that got turned into me telling you what you're thinking I have no idea.

I was never argueing that point. I agree with you on that. But as a collector who can't make it to West Coast conventions (and there are more than a few of us), we hate event exclusives. I will say that everyone loves exclusives who's able to get them. If I knew I'd be able to get all the GG exclusives that they announced yesterday, I'd be as giddy as a school girl. But with GG, there's no garauntee. I for one appreciate the fact that SS doesn't torture us with a ton of these exclusives (I'm not saying they don't find other ways of torturing us though).
Event exclusives seem to cater to the rich and leave the average collector with his 'you know what' in his hands. Unless you have someone kind enough to get an exclusive for you, you'll be paying triple retail from all the scalpers that attend these conventions (because die hard fans wouldn't put it up on eBay two hours later)

Oh, I am with you on that, trust me. The exclusives are not fun (or fair) for those who can't attend these events.
In SSC's defense, though, they have done a good job of trying to ease that... with limited amounts available on their website. If they indeed have exclusives at C4 I'm sure it would be the same and those who won't be able to attend the Con will have a chance to pre-order them online.

That SSC thankfully has going for them. I was able to get every SDCC exclusive I wanted last year.

Amen to that! They are the worst. And it use to be even worse than that. I was at SDCC '04 and I entered the lottery every day for 5 days and was not able to purchase a single exclusive item. :banghead
SSC is by far the most collector-friendly in this area. Not even close.

That may be true but it's not a bigger event overall.

If they don't they're dropping the ball? :lol Dude you gotta be kidding me. If they don't do an exclusive to a certain fan event? I totally disagree. I think they will come to C4 with something special but it will be the announcement of say a Chewie, Droids, Clones, Stormies, Vader, Fett, etc. something like that.
I don't think LF will be upset with SS if they dont have a show exclusive. Especially since this line is selling like freaking hot cakes.
If they do great. I'll get it. I'm not going but I'll get it. If they're doing one though based on the timeline that they usually do for SDCC. It should be going up soon for order for those going to the show and not going to the show.

Well, back on topic. I think there is still hope. There is still a start was annoucement for Wed. That is the end of Toy Fair right? And what else besides "today's" diorama announcement could they announce? Seems like they have a surprise up their sleeves. Besides the chess expansion pack can't expand on nothing.

Me 2. The way GG is doing things is just nuts. I dont mind convention exclusives even the ones I'm not going to(which outside of SDCC I ain't going to any) but doing one for every show is a bit much, because it takes away from exclusivesness of your items. I think Convention Exclusives are fine I really do. I like them and support them because if you're gonna spend the money for a show a nice item like that is cool.

That may be true but it's not a bigger event overall.
Given that we're discussing SDCC versus C4 on a Star Wars level, SDCC will never live up to C4 as a celebration. It pains me greatly that I can't go to C4 because in the lives of Star Wars fans, no convention will ever compare on any level to C4, it's going to be the greatest event ever done and probably never rivalled again for SW fans.
I think to say SSC would be dropping the ball not to have an exclusive at C4 is silly. An exclusive is not the make or break of a convention. Ya maybe GG has a cool item you have to have, but it's just as good a treat if Sideshow pulls back the curtain for the first time on a slew of product that blows everyone away. EVERYONE at C4 that are fans and collectors of SSC would be as thrilled to see an unveiling of Vader and Chewie and all their hopes and dreams, and show well before the world knows of it, as much as they'd be to get an exclusive item. I think SSC is a better company for putting more work into grande showcasing and exclusive glimpses and opportunity than exclusive items, everyone gets an equal opportunity to get beautiful pieces, but the attendees get rewarded with being the first to see and first to order it, which is a big guarantee for them, where by the time it comes to us non-attendees, it's may the best may win, so you get exclusives of a subtle and equally valuable nature by going to the show. I'd have loved to be at SDCC 06 and seen Jabba, I probably never would have left their booth, Exclusive Vader would not have been my priority or joy at that event, but seeing the beautiful new offering would have sucked my collecting heart right in and captivated it.
The Josh

I agree for SW fans C4 is bigger. I dont deny that at all. Most companies not named GG though save the exclusives for events like SDCC or TF. As far as an event no convention will rival SDCC.
I agree with you though about not having exclusives and using showing Vader or something like that being a bigger deal for C4.

Loki,at least it seems that SS has been better about these exclusives. Didn't they have a pre-order that could be shipped and also picked up at SDCC. At least if they continue on that path you have a that option.
