gimmie a MGS2 Snake & Raiden... as gay as raiden was in MGS2 I like that version the most.. because he simulated how snake felt in part 1, betrayed by his commanding officers and being a rookie.

I actually like this new Raiden more than their Solid Snake.
Never noticed he's missing lips in production art.
I hope he has a pouch for some Kleenex to mop up all that drool though. :lol

It seems the mouthpiece he has "x-rays" his mouth which is why we see his teeth. If you watch the trailer, you can see that his upper lip is not xrayed and looks normal when it crosses the mouthpiece. I'm curious if the final figure will have the clear mouthpiece added to glear that up.

I got over the shock of playing as Raiden in MGS2, not my favorite, but he didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game too much. This looks outrageously cool though, and I may have to get these two figures for a little video game shrine! Please let Medicom get the Nintendo license! They could make an awesome TP Link!

This is my most anticipated 1:6 scale figure and I've been dying to get it in-hand since I first saw it at the 2007 Toy Fair way back in Feb 07...

While I'm a die-hard MGS fan, I'm a bit disappointed in the head (as Spliff said) and the figure seems almost too...clean to me. Maybe it's the photos/flash, but it seems a lot more white than in the game...we'll see...

About the head, We might see a few custom ones up on the bay.. maybe nopt but it never hurts to hope.. I hated my old snakes head and swapped it for a custom one off the bay. sold my mgs4 snake a few months ago, but have just got ahold of another one after playing the game.. have raiden on preorder at bbts as well.. what I really want is a mgs gray fox and mgs2 solidus snake:monkey2

Best thing about these MGS4 figs are the beautiful Yoji Shinkawa illustrated boxes. Gorgeous.

I wouldn't cancel my order - I think this is going to go up in price once it drops and folks see how cool it is...

Are those getting the 12-day shipping notice getting them from Sideshow or another seller/retailer?

Just wondering as I've contacted Sideshow and they say they still have a date of Sept. for the shipping estimate...

Yes, from Sideshow. Well, it'll get to their warehouse in 12 days and then they have to do all the stuff associated with getting it ready to ship.

Hell, they RUSHED out the Cleaner Kit Wolf and it still took them over a week to get it out. Not complaining, just showing you a timeline.

And the thing is, it's still got the damned puffy suit. I hate that on the Old Snake!! And then I would have to get another Old Snake (sold my first one) and I just can't afford it until after my MGIB money starts coming in. Oh well, mostly out of 1/6 stuff anyways. Cancelled. Good luck to you WLers!!

I already know the pose I'm gonna put him in, he does it a number of times in the game(can't find a cap of it) where he has his legs spread, knee's bent, right arm bent like he's throwing a pass, holding the sword backwards(with the blade in the same direction as his face).

that image of him stuck with me since playing the game.

Maybe, maybe not. I've seen many so called 'sought after collectibles' return for a second chance. Raiden is expensive, so there's a real possibility he'll be back for a 2nd chance on the SSC site.

yeah - you're probably right...though I think he'll be hard to find than Snake as I'm fairly certain I heard they made quite a few LESS Raiden than Snake figures...

Well, I believe that Medicom released 1000 pieces for each Snake figure. The exclusive editons, however, were usually limited to only 500 pieces each (like the Olive drab ver. Old Snake).

So, that being said, Raiden may also be released with 1000 pieces.

I'd say poseability isn't an issue from the looks of these... ;)

Considering Medicom is fairly new to the rubber suit over the 1:6 body, I'm hoping some of these issues mentioned above (yellowing body, rubber rub, etc) aren't an issue and while I hate to say it, this and Old Snake are sort of the test run for whatever Medicom does next w/ this style of body...

Hot Toys and Takara have been doing the rubber body suit a lot longer (and more often) than Medicom...at least this and Old Snake are actual 1:6 scale and not 1" or more shorter than a regular 12" figure as some RAH figures have been in the past...

The suit on Raiden is a lot sturdier, and feels of better quality...but as a result it restricts his movements more than Snake's suit. people had a lot of problems with Snake, but I loved how freely he was able to move...Raiden can't do much else but move his arms and head. at least mine does, maybe I just got a bad one or somethin'.

mind you I still love the thing to death and it's my favorite figure ever so far(i can't stop looking at it), just had some more ninja like poses in mind that I can't do now. oh well, he still looks like a BAMF in a stoic badass pose.

mine didn't have any problems under the suit, but the suit did start peeling in places. but my Snake also moves a lot better than my Raiden does...so that's kinda a bummer. all the improving they did(including the stuffing on the legs) hampers movement on mine. =/

yo Spliff ( hot dayum Zooey is ^^^^ing hot) can raiden do any gun poses? i have a p90 and m4 waiting for my raiden :monkey5
i don't think he'd be able to do a natural looking firing pose, but i'm not sure any other guns aside from the one he comes with will fit in his heads. the holes are pretty slim.

Just got Raiden,its a very cool figure,BUT my advice to fans are,DONT GET IT!!!

The rubber is the same as snake,cracks easily,the part between where the black chest part and the white parts of the arms begin it cracked open on mine.

if you get it dont pose it,another waste of my cash,seriously.

^^^^ you Medicom,i wont buy any more toys from them EVER again!

its strange that im the first person that have something negative to say about the quality,because the quality is the same as Snake,its the area that separates the Arm and and body(black area) that cracks,like Medicom used cheap glue to attach the arms to the body,not sure about the legs,they seem to be fine so far.

You are dead wrong about medicom being new to the rubber suit. In fact, medicom is one of the pioneers of the rubber suit 1/6 figures. They've been doing full rubber suits back in early 2000. Even their ultraman figures are from 2003.

Actually, you are wrong on this...but only slightly...

The figures you picture above and what you're calling "rubber body suits" are not actually the same material as the "rubber body suits" surrounding the MGS4 Medicom figures.

Almost all of the Ultraman RAH, Kamen Rider RAH, Marvel RAH, and Spawn RAH body suits aren't "rubber" at all but a stretch fabric of sorts with sown seams. (Obviously the larger monsters body suits are made of a thicker, more durable rubber/plastic, but these can't be compared to either the MGS4 skin-tight rubber body suits nor the stretch fabric body suits I mention above). Unlike the MGS4 figures which feature a true rubber body suit with glue-sealed seams, a majority of Medicom figures utilize this stretch fabric and sown seams to avoid issues like those seen in the photos above.

You are correct that Medicom is a pioneer in giving 1:6 scale figures full body suits as I believe they've been making figures like this for 9+ years, but these all rubber, multi-part, glue-sealed seamed body suits used on the two new MGS4 figures are new to Medicom and Hot Toys has much more experience with this sort of work than Medicom...

I am really disappointed with this figure in terms of QC. I went early morning to my usual shop to collect mine and the shop allowed me to open the box to check the figure first because some customer got one with a broken leg.

First impressions, looked really good, great detail, amazing likeness, and the scale seems really good this time around but I turn the figure around and there is already rubber cracks at the ass. I look under the arm and the suit is already coming apart.

I try to pose the hands and the left hand wouldn't hold a pose. it's not like the suit is resisting too much, well the suit is restrictive but the right hand will still hold a pose but the left hand is just loose.

I really wanted the figure so the shop opened another box for me. This one, no rubber cracks, and the suit under the arm hasn't come apart yet. I pose the right hand and it holds and I pose the left hand and it's even more looser than the first figure.

Instead of asking the shop to open more boxes, I canceled my order. As much as I wanted it, I just could not live with a figure with a loose left arm, especially when it costs so much!!!.

I mean, HT at a much cheaper price point comes with better QC and consistency. HT rubber suit also allows much more poseability and durability. This Raiden suit is just too thick and hinders poseability alot. This is one ninja that can't really pose like one because of the overly thick suit. And due to the nature of the suit, I can't tighten the left arm unless I cut the suit open.

To soothe my disappointment, I pre-ordered HT 1st version Joker and Bank Robber Joker. HT will be getting all my money from now on.

Medicom really dropped the ball on this one. They got everything right with this figure except such a simple thing as a left arm. I really wanted it and was willing to live with the thick suit but the loose left arm not on one but two!!! or maybe more.

When they cost this much, I expect nothing less than perfection.

I got mine yesterday and I am extremely happy with it. No cracks, nothing, good paint app, less fragile suit than Snake's, well articulated.

The only issue: He's BIG. About the size of a Predator!:D

If they weren't so cheap, Snake and Raiden's outfits would be a mix of armor and fabrics, as they were meant to be in the game. To have Raiden as a statue just doesn't feel right. Raiden's character begs to be posed like Darth Maul.

I'd hate to cancel this because it is the best and only licensed MGS4 stuff we're ever going to get in the forseeable future. I doubt anyone will pick up the license and top this. Sideshow could make awesome PFs if they wanted to.

I think it IS QC issue (and design flaws too). Its very often to find uneven tightness on most Medicom figures. Only a couple out of all the ones I've bought don't need some small surgery to tighten some joints. However, with figures like Snake or Raiden, you can't really open it up to fix loose joints.

Hope I don't get some unpleasant surprise when my Raiden arrives. My Old Snake happen to have a dislocated lower left leg, which I did manage to fix by taking the shoe & feet off & cut open his stockings. :rolleyes: (even though I do like the figure quite a bit, but need a lot of work to fix all the minor issues).

To be honest, it's not flawless. The likeness is there but once again, the paint apps on the face look very cartoonish.
My biggest letdown has got to be the hair color. It's more gold than silver...and again makes Raiden look like a Japanese anime character.
It's ok though but a more realistic approach would have been nicer, especially when it comes to Metal Gear Solid.

Most people think Hot Toys would have done a better job on this character. They're probably right. However, there's no denying that this is still an extremely cool and impressive figure.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Raiden is BIG. About the size of a Predator actually.
When you display him alone he looks BA; next to the MGS3 figure he's a giant.

Poseability is good. If you're a little imaginative, you can get some incredible poses. But he looks terrific just standing there or unsheathing his katana.

If you're a Metal Gear fan, or simply if you enjoy kick ass 1/6 figures, you will not regret buying this, trust me. He's just a thousand times cooler than Old Snake!

I've been waiting for this since Feb 07 and it's really been the one 1:6 scale figure I've actually anticipated. While I'm a huge fan of Hot Toys and Sideshow's stuff, this has been the ONE figure that - from the first time I saw it - just blew me away...I'm glad to know there are a lot of positive thoughts about it from those that have it.

I'm interested to look at the fine details like the decals - it's impressive they're actually game-accurate and readable. I'm also glad it seems Medicom took into consideration the critical comments fans made regarding the old snake and took a bit longer on Raiden - while I hate to wait, I'd rather it be better quality now than crap 4 months ago...

Yeah, I'm also looking forward to receiving Raiden. A must for me as a cyborg, robot, android, humanoid... freak. I never played the game, but the design alone does it for me. I just don't like the design of his feet very much, as far as I can judge from the pictures. Yes, it's cool that they are articulated, can grab stuff and all, but they don't look so good. My cc's getting charged in a couple of days, and if SSC stays true to their (very sad and slow) routine, I should receive the figure in about a month.

As for the feet - you really have to play the game and see Raiden "at work" to see what he can do with those odd-looking "high heels." I've heard people complain about them a lot and when I first saw them I was a little W T F as well, but once you see them in action, they're understandably cool...

I hope your Raiden holds up,for a 200$ figure i REALLY hope you get your raiden in perfect shape.I still have to argue with that seller of mine,i was kind and said i could solve a deal that worked for both of us,since he wont be able to sell a broken Raiden figure again.
I told him refund the express shipping cost which was 60$ but he couldnt even do that and said 35$,so i will just send the figure back for an exchange.

I was as cooperative as possible,and my deal would put a smile on both of our faces,mostly him,but when he doesnt accept that i dont know what else to do than send it back to him and he would have to send me a new figure and HE looses 200$,fine with me.

he did contact Medicom about this,but they gave him a cold hand back at his face.

What ever, I know I ain't accepting a $179 figure (about $270 after shipping and taxes) that starts crumbling just by looking at it. These figures are mend to be posed, are they not? This figure seems to really be falling apart way too easily!!! Glad I canceled my order. After Masked Rider Black next month (hopefully this one has better qc) I will not be buying Medicom figure anymore. I will be sticking to Hot Toys from now on. Cheaper, better accessories, and most importantly, great QC.

I got my Raiden today and yup, it's a fragile bugger...beautiful figure overall, glorious looking - makes me want to play the game just to watch him in action.

Is it worth $175 plus S&H? Probably not - die-hard fans only, just like Old Snake. But I will say the interchangable hands and extra detail to the vinyl body suit - exoskeletal armor, etc - make it a sight to see. Sadly, with the tight budget most collectors have now due to increased costs in damn near everything, casual fans will probably skip this piece, which is too bad - for $130 or so, it'd be a pretty darn good deal - sadly, Medicom just overprices their stuff...

I actually picked up the coat from www.echobasetoys.com for $16 - it's a Sideshow Collectibles Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Vampire Spike" coat that was included with this figure here - http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=2014

You should be able to find one at www.echobasetoys.com as they just parted out a few of the Buffy figures - good luck!

As for Raiden's suit - YES, the vinyl suit is a multi-part suit which is the major problem with it - had Medicom designed it like Hot Toys designs their rubber/vinyl body suits (which is a solid one piece over the 1:6 scale body), there may not have been as many problems w/ the seems tearing - there are - as far as I can count - at least five seams on the figure - both shoulders, both hips, and a small one right in the crotch. The hip and shoulder seams are the worst as they not only have the likelihood of tearing if stretched, but they also warp or tear the paint loose as well - Raiden's ass on mine is all funky on one side from where the seam pealed some paint up :(

Otherwise, it's a great piece to LOOK at, but nothing you'll want to touch too often - even the knife and sword sheath are a ^^^^^ to get on (and keep on) :(

Haven't seen the RAH Blade coat anywhere "loose" for sale - but the problem with that coat is Blade's sword sheath is permanently attached to the coat and there's a hole in between the shoulders of the coat where the blade can be inserted into the sheath - this isn't a HUGE problem, but something to consider...

And if you're only looking for the Blade coat because it features wire armatures, it's pretty easy to add wires to the Spike coat and allow it to bend and flex...just use some florist wire (my wife's a florist :)) and insert it into the seems...ta da...

Thats 1 of 2 reasons i want it,the other is that it has that shiny leather,which the Spike coat doesnt seem to have.

stuck..... his rubber suit was covering about half of the joint hole, but fixed it. His head is loose :monkey4 is there a way to put his visors on his eyes safely?

Jesus, for the prices Medicom are charging these for, the sure are breaking up fast, I mean Raiden is not even out for a month yet.

I am a freaking hardcore MGS fan too. I bought a PS3 and lined up for 10 hours just to be some of the first in the world to play the game and actually had a Raiden ordered.

When I got to the store, they opened up Raiden for me to check cause some customer got one with broken leg. The first one they opened already has paint peeling at his butt, lots of glue residue under the arms, the eye paint job was off (slightly cocked eye), there is a paint mark on the visor, plastic stress mark on his heel and the left hand is loose and can't hold a pose.

I pointed out the problems and they opened a second Raiden for me, this time, this one looks really great visually, underarms clean, not plastic stress marks or paint peeling off, eyes paint job correct and not mark on the visor BUT the left arm is even more looser than the first.

The shop gave me the option of canceling my order due to the problems. I mean, it's a damn cool looking figure. Raiden looked so badass, Medicom captured the look perfectly, and I just played the game again a day earlier. I contemplated for almost an hour. I was telling myself how I could live with a defective figure cause I am such a fan but alas, in the end, for the price Medicom is charging these figures for, the figure should be defect free in the first place.

Medicom really got arrogant due to their skyrocketing popularity in recent years and it shows in their product. Fragile body issues that's still common today, higher than usual pricing and a total lack of accessories for most of their line,sub par human sculpt and paint disintegrating suits on their Kamen Rider figures and now MGS figures, a ^^^^^ off attitude to their dealers who asked for a replacement or spare parts, and worse, they do not listen to their customers.

Hot Toys will be getting my money from now on, does everything better and has more accessories than Medicom and at a cheaper pricepoint. Most importantly, Hot Toys bend over backwards to fulfill customers and dealers demands. They delay products so they could change sculpt that aren't accurate and they actually send out replacement boxes to dealers whose boxes got damaged during shipping.

Kamen Rider Black will be my last Medicom figure and now I really hope that one will turn out better than Raiden. I really hate to have to let than one go.

I pre-ordered it last year and got it WITHOUT all those defects, no cracks in the underarms or crotch areas. It was pristine out of the box.
Seeing it standing there, I am awed. This is the Holy Grail that I've been waiting for a long time...My First Ever Fully detailed Branded 1/6 figure. This is it...materialized right before my very eyes!

But after looking at it, I find that I cannot split this Raiden's legs,
I'm having a hard time lifting the arms. ..I was saddened. :monkey2
I am exactly, what crowinghorse said, a fan of pose ability. And this is a ninja figure... They could have used a stretch material where the arms and legs connect to the body...
The only reason the armpits and crotch were cut/separated by me of course was to allow the figure to be more posable... I'm not satisfied with it "just standing there."

I sooo wanted it to Kick Ass...:monkey3 NOT JUST STAND THERE...

I'm still hoping that someone please post pics of this completely dismantled, with all the inside parts exposed so we can all know how to kitbash this or upgrade the inner frame with more durable parts.
How I wish the shoulder joints and the hips joints in the inner body frame are made of metal.
I've been writing Medicom over and over but I only get generic responses...and rarely.

I sent all these 3 gallery links to Kojima and asked him if he would be so kind enough to let Hottoys make a better version.

I even emailed Hottoys and I am begging them to please impose justice on this great character. Kojima loves this character and so do I.

But like i mentioned on previous posts above,as long you will keep it over time and no plans on selling it i understand you.

I have emailed Hot Toys 2 times about a possibility of making MGS figures,i got same answer both times,you know:

Thats their answer every time if you ask about something they are not planning to make.

Hmm, yeah it does. But, I don't like the idea of Raiden's interior plastic skeleton being exposed. Plus, it looks as if his crotch is about to fall off lol :monkey1. IF (keyword), I decide to cut my figure, I'm definitely going to stitch some sort of protective covering over the exposed internals.

Right now, the only customization I have planned is modifying the head a little, with some Gundam Markers.

hmm i have a mixed opinion about this figure. it looks great on the surface and it very epic but upon closer inspection there were some quality issues like the cracks and weak suit materials. I am satisfied enough to keep it though.

I don't plan on selling my figure either, so I'll try to customize it. By the way, did you cut along the glue seams? Or, did you make new cuts/rips directly on the vinyl suit?... I'm definitely going to stitch some sort of protective covering over the exposed internals.

Thank you. Glad you appreciate the pics. :D I didn't cut the vinyl, I simply parted the black vinyl from the white, slowly...and with the help of a semi-cutting tool to cut the glue. The black vinyl body will have white glue residues which can easily be corrected with a permanent black marker. Be careful not to mark the white vinyl limbs (wrap/cover them with tissues) before application.

Same here, I didn't plan on selling mine either when I decided to buy it. Better stuffs with more features and functionalities get released as time goes on. A PS 2 yesterday is not as expensive when the PS3 came out. Therefore, it is both futile and impractical to buy these kinds of things in hopes of selling it later for profit. It is not an investment tool, it is a hobby. People will most always be fascinated with newer, better things.

Why I am posting here and other forums... is because this is a community.
A community is a place where we can brainstorm. Somewhere along a group of people there will be someone with brighter ideas, hopefully he'll share.
And since we're stuck with this kind of Raiden for the moment, might as well see if anyone has come up with better ideas of improving where Medicom left off. If someone has a completely dismantled Raiden we can sort it out and gain more knowledge about its parts and formulate a fool proof strategy on repairing, maintaining and improving this completely to our satisfaction.

Hopefully, we can bypass it's limitations out of production. Let's just consider that Medicom gave us an extremely expensive base foundation that we can work on. Could have been better if they left it painted but UNASSEMBLED like Gundam model kits. If so, then we can reinforce the weak spots ourselves.
Any other good ideas folks?

Here's an idea of mine I would like to share, buy BlueTack(black color), it's a reusable semi-adhesive clay-like substance. You can use it to help this figure hold the sword and knives on the mouth or the foot, or simply hold the sword in the scabbard... Or hold the Visor in place so it doesn't slide up open when Raiden is upside down.

I'm still thinking what's best to cover the opened parts.

Why don't you try the SSC wait-list? Wait-lists work! And with the quality issues on this figure, they might get a few returns, from people that are just not happy with the figure. It's worth a shot, if you really want Raiden.

Nope, I didn't use photoshop. It's very simple to make Raiden stand on his sword, the shoulders are tied to a thread that's tied to my left hand's finger while I shoot with my right hand. I put some blue tack on the tip of sword to make it stick a little.

Raiden's weight is supported by the sword but the balance because of the thread.

Raiden with coat looks awesome. That was also my first idea after seeing the box: get the coat! But... why cover his rather special body up? I mean, it's all about the way his body looks, so, why hide it by a coat. I won't.

Yeah thats true so thats why im pose with and without the coat,sometimes with and sometimes without it.
If this figure was solid and worth getting more of i would buy an extra.

Cheap shipping overseas... That sounds like shipping without insurance. Granted, most parcels make it alright to their new owners, but what do you do, if your $200 parcel get's lost, or, arrives damaged?
I don't take chances. Insured shipping it is for me. And, from HK, it's always about $45.

Nope nearly all their shipping is insured it just depends how fast you want it there. I could have had mine shipping for like 5-10 bucks but that would take to long since i'm impatient so instead I went with the 30 US option to get it here within 3-4 days.

Also Rock that coat looks badass, i'm glad mines on the way.

I saw that too, was really tempted to take a chance this time but after much thought, even if I get one without any loose left arm, this thing will still fall apart over time. The rubber Medicom is using on this figure is really a big problem.
