February 10, 2007, Burbank, Ca. – Gentle Giant Ltd. is ready to take the world and collectors by storm with an unprecedented five-city worldwide tour. While traveling the globe, the company will make a special, exclusive Star Wars Clone Trooper Commander mini-bust available at each of the five locations.

“Why should rock stars and movie celebrities have all the fun?” asked Gentle Giant Vice President of Product Development and Design Dev Gilmore. “We figure it’s high time the collectibles industry had its own world tour, so we’re taking the lead and having a lot of fun. And of course, we want to invite everyone to come join us, so we’re making it worth your while thanks to some very cool, exclusive Clone Trooper Commander mini-busts.”



As amazing as the Clone Trooper Commanders are, Gentle Giant knows that a single exclusive does not a party make. So the company is offering multiple tour exclusives to go along with the specific location exclusives. The Gentle Giant Worldwide Tour 2007 Exclusives include a Yoda/R2-D2 Animated-style maquette and a special Bust-Ups 2-pack of Han and Luke in Stormtrooper armor. There will also be other exclusives at some of the five events, which will be announced soon.

As to those Clone Trooper Commanders… They’ll be available in the following cities:

Deffinately signing up for the Gentle Giant Premium collectors Club... I do hope they'll ship worldwide. As I'm a long time Gentle Giant collector and I have the whole lineup of minibusts I can't loose the chance to get even these Clone Commanders, really a great new!! Anyways I'm very interested to see this new Artoo/Yoda Animated maquette... I bet It will be the scene from ESB where he tries to steal the light and artoo tries to stop him... really cool! And I do hope to see a prototype of one the new Star Wars 3d Animated serie maquettes at Toyfare... I doubt it...but let's hope... I think they will unfold something at celebration IV for sure...

If any other Guild members would like 1 or 2, but aren't completists, I have a suggestion.

Let's hedge our bets on getting at least one.
Each "team" member tries to place an order for the 5-pack. They get priority on the two busts of their choice. If other "team" members (up to three) don't succeed in placing the order, they draw lots for order of choice from the other three, paying 1/5 of the package price, plus delivery costs. If every team member succeeds, the entire box is theirs.

Any takers? I'll partner with the first three interested. :cool:

Considering that Toy Fair is supposedly about revealing upcoming product to retailers that they will be selling this year, I'm a little confused about what retailers are supposed to do about the fact that 95% of these previews are for things they won't be allowed to sell.

I think things are getting out of hand. I don't mind missing some Star Wars busts, but those clones are something I really want. I have a complete set of the Potter busts and SW animated maquettes and want to keep them complete. The thought of what it's going to take to get all of these exclusives, considering how stressful and unreliable GG was last year, makes me just want to give up.

I am devastated by this news. The ONE commander is was hoping to see Gentle Giant produce so I could pick one up was CODY. Now, here he comes (with a cool light-up holo-Sidious no less!) and they've made it an exclusive to a con that I (and alot of other people) can't get to instead of having him available through the normal outlets and so....unless I want to fork over big bucks on ebay, I can forget it.

I still haven't picked up the ShockTooper they had as an SDCC exclusive last year (the one clone from ROTS I really wanted) because of the scalper prices he goes for (around $100. or more). And here Gentle Giant is taking the most popular clone in ROTS and making him unattainable for most fans...

And getting the box set at the end of the year? They're kidding, right? Riiiggghhhtt...like those won't be snapped up by a lucky few for a fat price.
This is a sad day for bust collectors who don't haunt cons....here I was all set for some great announcements at Toy Fair and so far Hasbro looks like it's got some fun basic figures coming and Gentle Giant provides us with what turns out to be the ultimate "Lucy with the Football" moment....

These are going to be well worth tracking down--I just hope that GG listened to all of the feedback from last year, and will be making changes to help the Guild members get their hands on these.

Agreed, I think that's why they are appealing to me. Normally, I'm happy with one color out of 4/5. Might really like most of these.

Got my Cody in today from a retailer that went to the sdcc convention.He was supposed to get 4 of them but he said GG was treating all the retailers there like sh**.He also said there were a few fights in the line while he and his employees were trying to get there exclusives and the peeps from GG told everyone that if they didn't calm down they were going to send everyone in line away and give the exclusives to other people.Well anyway here's some pics of my Cody.

Well, now that I have been able to acquire the 2 main Clone Commanders I wanted (Cody because he was the best of them all, and Gree for his color scheme and "Yoda punk-job"), the pain of this exclusives fiasco has subsided ... but the disgust has not. Cody ended up costing me 120 shipped and Gree cost me my AFX Coruscant clone. In all honesty, neither expenditure should have been required. Up until this year, Gentle Giant had my respect as a company and as artists. Sure, they FUBARed a likeness every now and then. But, when the item was good, it was golden. When they did exclusives, they were minor characters, or costume changes (Luke and Han in Stormie, Salacious, Blackhole Stormie, etc.).

I have though about this a lot ... and I think GG started their downward spiral with Mara. Sure, she was an EU character ... but she was 1.) a popular character, 2.) a female character in a male dominated SW bust lineup, and 3.) a Jedi. They could have released 5000 of her and sold every one. But, I accepted that instance as a minor blip ... traded away my Salacious Crumb and Chrome Jango ... and moved on. Then they hit us with the true Order 66 ... destroy all complete collections ... or at least their wallets in the cross-fire. Making ALL the clone commanders exclusives was inexcusable. I could have handled 1 or 2 - Neyo and Bacara, while unique, were not that important - IMO. Gree was a great character ... but I could have even lived without him being a regular bust. But to make Cody an exclusive ... and to add the Holographic Emperor pose ... that was a insult to collectors everywhere. Everyone loves clones ... but that Cody scene DEFINES the end of the Jedi. It personifies Palpatine's decades old plans ... the perfect depiction of Order 66. This key moment in Star Wars lore was denied the majority of us ... at retail price.

Now, now, I know what most of you are thinking, "shut up, stop whining, and spend what it takes to get it if you want it." Well, I did. True, I followed auctions for 2 weeks until I could get one that ended at 120 or less (double cost was my absolute breaking point going in). But, as I followed the auctions, something hit me - most of these busts were not bought by Star Wars fans. They were bought by greedy a$$holes just looking to make a profit. Sure, we all joke about flipping on this forum. But, lets be honesty ... the majority of the collectors who flip here are not actual "flippers" in the extreme sense. Buying a piece that you really want, then selling it to make room for another piece later is not flipping. If someone is stupid enough to spend a crazy amount, then more power to ya. But, as I followed these auctions, it was apparent that the 100s that popped up ... even DURING the Comic Con, were not Star Wars fans. It's easy to tell by reading the descriptions ... example, if a seller tells ups how sweet Order 86 was ... well, something tells me that's not a type-o. Someone bought that bust for the express purpose of charging out the arse on the secondary market. Some of you don't see a problem with this practice, so I won't bore you with the rest of the lecture. My contempt comes not from the scalping, but from the fact that Gentle Giant empowered them to scale. Can anyone claim that GG was oblivious to the scalping that was going to happen? All of this was a con to get more people to give them 50 free dollars for the "Premium Guild". A service the majority of the companies out there give us for free. And, this money ... free profit for them ... only guarantees you a chance at a lottery. Hell, at least Master Replicas gives you .33 minis and discounts. What does Gentle Giant premium service give you beside headaches.

So, in the end, I did what it took to get my Cody ... it was too great a piece/ moment to let go. But GG definitely killed the completest in me. I have already passed on 3 mini busts and 2 statues ... and can see many more in the future that just "aren't" worth the money. Will one customer's decreased business hurt them? Probably not. Will they stop these practices in the future ... doubt it (and everyone get ready for the 100 dollar Super Premium Collectors Club ... you get 2 ballots now! :rolleyes:). But, that doesn't excuse them. That does make it right.

Which is a good argument for flipping. I know some people are quick to condemn the practice but when you have these kind of ridiculous distribution of items with GG, it's kind of hard to avoid that point of view.

Buying to flip and buying to "trade" (as is less frowned upon) has become a way of life if you want to keep up with GG stuff. I recently had to give up one of my AFX clones just to finally get a Mara Jade in a trade.
